WHAT IS TOOL?
A tool is a device or
implement,
especially one held
in the hand, used
to carry out a
particular function.

TAPE MEASURE
It is a tool used for
taking body
measurements. It
should be flexible and
has metal ends.
Yardstick or
Meterstick
It is a rigid tool used
to take and mark long
straight
measurements or to
check grain lines.
Transparent Ruler
It is a ruler that the
sewer can see through.
The tool fits the hand
comfortably.
SEAM GAUGE
It is six-inch metal
marking ruler with a
sliding marking used
to measure hems,
buttonholes, and
pleats.
HEM
MARKER
It is a human-made
measuring tool used
to measure hem
lines.
HIP CURVE
It is a tool used for
redrawing gently curve
lines and used in shaping
hips skirt hemline and
hip shape seam lines.
FRENCH
CURVE
It is used to shape
necklines, collars,
armholes and other
curved modified
designs.

SHEARS
It is use for cutting
fabrics. The two
handles have a
different size of holes.

SCISSORS
These are pointed
for trimming and
clipping work. The
two handles are the
same in size and the
blades are 5 to 6
inches long.

RIPPER
It is a handy wire rod
that is used to remove
seams and stitches.
PINKING
SHEARS
It gives an attractive
zigzag cut edge to
the fabrics that do
not ravel.
THREAD
CLIPPERS
It is a handy little spring-
loaded cutting tool that
allows for the snipping of
threads. These clippers are
specifically used to cut
excess threads and they are
not designed to cut fabric.

flattening, creasing
and shaping fabric.

It is used to cover fabric
while pressing. It
distributes heat, prevents
scorching and when wet,
creates steam.
IRONING
BOARD
It is a padded flat
surface for ironing and
pressing.
PADDING
It resists the heat of
the iron useful for
marking pleats, bias-
strips and pressing.
