BRAND STORY
The story behind Mantis
Man And Nature Together Is Sustainable
We are borne of Africa.
Our first game reserve was built on a drought-ravaged and
degraded farmland in Southern Africa’s Eastern Cape region.
Carefully restored and nurtured like a new-born, the neglected
land slowly came back. And so did the animals. And so did the
travellers.
The inspiration was sparked. The concept of creating a collection
of exceptional, individual lifestyle experiences centred around a
common unifying purpose of witnessing and preserving our natural
world is what drove Adrian Gardiner’s creation of Mantis.
With the ability to adapt to all conditions, to flourish where there is
little nourishment and blessed with a heart of a warrior, the African
Praying Mantis has endured to become one of African folklore’s
most charming characters.
Imbued with innate grace and elegance, and no small measure
of pugnaciousness, we were moved to adopt this enigmatic little
creature as a talisman. Today the symbol of the Mantis, and all
that this delightful creature represents can be found at unique
destinations spread across the world.

Mantis Impact Experiences
Mantis Impact Experiences is a division of Mantis specialising in the
development and operation of eco-volunteering programmes. These
programmes attract adventurous travellers of all ages from across the
globe to go behind the scenes and be immersed in the world of
conservation.
Worldwide Experience
Worldwide Experience offers a select portfolio specialising in
conservation travel for self-funded volunteers, groups and students to
various projects in exciting locations.
Stenden University South Africa
Stenden South Africa is a franchise of the NHL Stenden University of
applied Sciences in the Netherlands which is in Port Alfred, South Africa.
Mantis played an integral role in setting up the campus. Mantis initially
had an equity stake which has since been converted to a bursary fund.
We have an option to employ some of their most promising students and
have access to their research department for market intelligence.
Giltedge
An inbound into and Outbound out of Africa Tour Operator, specializing
in luxury travel for individuals, small and large groups, as well as incentive
groups.
Bear Grylls Survival Academy
Mantis established a relationship with television personality and
adventurer, Bear Grylls, and formed Bear Grylls Survival Academy. This
partnership creates experiences and takes what Bear does so well on
television and bringing it to life for kids, adults, and corporate teams.
Community Conservation Fund Africa (CCFA) is a
registered NPC founded in 2018, borne out of the
merger between Mantis and Accor. These two
global hospitality groups recognise the urgent
need for community upliftment which will benefit
Africa’s wild animals and wildernesses at a time
when both are under threat.
CCFA is both a fund-raising & a grant-giving
organisation that is active in educating and
empowering local communities to implement
sustainable wildlife management systems on the
ground. These solutions are funded by CCFA and
its commercial partners. The CCFA has been
woven into the Mantis/Accor group ecosystem at
all levels and believes there is always a way for
anyone who wants to contribute to the cause to
do so in a meaningful way, whether through
financial funding, skills sharing, product
endorsements or simply spreading the word.

Our first game reserve was built on a drought-ravaged and degraded farmland in Southern Africa’s Eastern Cape region. Carefully restored and nurtured like a new-born, the neglected land slowly came back. And so did the animals. And so did the travellers. The inspiration was sparked. The concept of creating a collection of exceptional, individual lifestyle experiences centred around a common unifying purpose of witnessing and preserving our natural world is what drove Adrian Gardiner’s creation of Mantis. With the ability to adapt to all conditions, to flourish where there is little nourishment and blessed with a heart of a warrior, the African Praying Mantis has endured to become one of African folklore’s most charming characters. Imbued with innate grace and elegance, and no small measure of pugnaciousness, we were moved to adopt this enigmatic little creature as a talisman. Stenden University South Africa Stenden South Africa is a franchise of the NHL Stenden University of applied Sciences in the Netherlands which is in Port Alfred, South Africa. Mantis played an integral role in setting up the campus. Mantis initially had an equity stake which has since been converted to a bursary fund. We have an option to employ some of their most promising students and have access to their research department for market intelligence. Bear Grylls Survival Academy Mantis established a relationship with television personality and adventurer, Bear Grylls, and formed Bear Grylls Survival Academy. This partnership creates experiences and takes what Bear does so well on television and bringing it to life for kids, adults, and corporate teams. Community Conservation Fund Africa (CCFA) is a registered NPC founded in 2018, borne out of the merger between Mantis and Accor. These two global hospitality groups recognise the urgent need for community upliftment which will benefit Africa’s wild animals and wildernesses at a time when both are under threat. CCFA is both a fund-raising & a grant-giving organisation that is active in educating and empowering local communities to implement sustainable wildlife management systems on the ground.
