The document analyzes a photo depicting a dead man hanging from the arm of the Statue of Liberty. It notes three key elements: the smoky sky symbolizing America's decline in morals, the dead man who likely killed himself as a metaphor for "give me freedom or give me death," and the disproportionate sizes representing how America only notices struggles when drastic acts occur.

Designers + Developers, Designers vs. DevelopersGabi Moore
AnyClip Designer Gabi Moore talks about some of the issues surrounding the relationship between designers and developers, and what can be done to improve it. This presentation includes the results of an informal survey where both designers and developers explain in their own words some of the problems that come from working together, as well as ideas on to better bridge the gap between the design and development worlds.
During NCAIS Innovate 2010 conference attendees were witness to six, five-minute presentations where presenters showcased one of their passion points about education. We call these sessions SPARKING Education. http://innovate.ncais.org

Vincent de Keijzer & Patricia Deiser, Down to Earth. Social Media and Institu...museums and the web
A presentation from Museums and the Web 2009 http://www.archimuse.com/mw2009/
Abstract: The Gemeentemuseum in The Hague is a museum for contemporary art and the applied arts. “Down To Earth” presents a case study of the museum’s recent project, a five-month survey, in which various staff members were interviewed about their knowledge, level of participation, attitude and opinion regarding new social media and community centered projects. Those interviewed included directors; curators; some collections workers, including restorers; some of those involved in documentation, in education, in exhibitions, in ICT; some marketing staff and some in public relations.
The data collected was used to identify five different user types: lecturers; educators; presenters; interactors and connectors. On the basis of these types, a viable and differentiated approach to social media could be planned and put into practice. Central to this approach is a focus on the development of sustainable solutions that fit the museum and its staff. The paper shows how a rather traditional, conservative museum can create its own strategies for dealing with new media in this way.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

For this essay, I will be analyzing the photo of the dead man and the statue of liberty.
There are many things in this photo that can be analyzed. This overall photo to me seems very
sad and dreary and very metaphorical. The three main things about this photo that stand out to
me are the sky, the dead man, and the size of the objects in the photo.
The very first thing I noticed about this photo was the sky. It is clearly either cloudy or
smoky. There could be many reasons for this but I do not believe that an artist would do
something be mere chance, so this is done on purpose. As first glance, there seems to be no
correlation, however, after I analyzed the photo a bit more, I realized that it is symbolic of what
America had become. He had become a sad country, burning down in our morals, therefore the
background is smoky and dark.
The second thing that I noticed is that the man is dead, hanging from the arm of The
Statue of Liberty. There could be many reasons and many causes. My first question would be
“Did he kill himself or was he murdered?” Based on other key factors of the photo, I believe that
2. this man killed himself as a metaphor of the popular saying “Give me freedom or give me
death.”
The final thing that I noticed was that the man is very large in proportion to the actual
statue. At first I actually thought this was a real photo that had been taken. After analyzing this
photo for a while, I then realized it must be a work of art because the disproportionate objects.
This could be metaphorical for many things but the most noticeable to me is that the only time
America really sees the struggles people have is when they do something drastic like kill
themselves, which is terrible.
