Charterparties are contracts drawn up between ship owners and charterers to lease vessels. The main charter types are voyage, time, and demise charters. Voyage charters are most common in tramp shipping. Liner shipping operates on a fixed schedule and route. It can carry large volumes but is slower than air transport. While reliable for cargo quality, liner shipping faces delays and reliability issues regarding arrival times.

•The voyage charter is the most common
charter in tramp shipping.

5. TIME CHARTER
• In a time charter the owner provides a vessel
that is fully manned and equipped. The owner
provides the crew, but the crew takes orders
from the charterer.

6. DEMISE CHARTER
• The demise charter is the least used in
the tramp trade because it heavily favors
the owner. The ship owner only provides
a ship devoid of any crew, stores, or
fuel.

7. LINER SHIPPING
• Liner Service – is a service
that operates within a
schedule and has a fixed port
rotation with published dates
of calls at the advertised
ports.. A liner service generally
fulfils the schedule unless in
cases where a call at one of
the ports has been unduly
delayed due to natural or man-
mad causes..

8. ADVANTAGES OF LINER
SHIPPING
Capacity: Liner ships can carry a lot of goods.
This is one of their key advantages over air
shipping. Also, the shape of what you need to
transport doesn't matter.
Cost: Shipping is simply the cheapest way to
transport goods, which is why its a method used
by many companies. If time isn’t important you
may go for this ship.

9. DISADVANTAGES OF LINER SHIPPING
• Speed: It's not the fastest way to get cargo from one
place to another. That's the major downside of liner
shipping. An air shipment may take one or two days,
while a liner shipment could take a month or more.
• Reliability: Ships are unreliable in terms of time of
arrival. They run on a weekly schedule and delays can
be common. They are reliable in terms of maintaining
the quality of the goods they are shipping.
