What is beauty? People have always attempted to find, create, and pursue it. A quick checkout at
the grocery store will reveal a plethora of magazines devoted purely to what they call beauty and
the proper pursuit of it. Most have an idea of what they might personally define as beauty, but not
as a general, sweeping definition. That which one might label ugly another might call absolutely
stunning. Some find beauty in cats, others in dogs, just as some favor early morning mountain
ranges over a sun setting over the plains. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is the favorite adage

Altogether, the adage asserts that beauty is purely reliant on one's own personal preference and
perceptions of it. In other words, beauty is relative. Therefore, even if I find rather repulsive what
you call beautiful, our differences in opinion are both justified and simultaneously true, even if either
side disagrees with that fact. This concept explains much in our past and current culture today. The
arguments between countless teenagers and parents regarding choice of music and its proper
volume make sense – both are right, just with different perceptions of what each would call
beautiful, or pleasurable. America as a whole in the past century is a prime example of this. After

became beautiful, followed by the famous image of a pale Marilyn Monroe standing on an air vent,

by the media has also a big impact on the eating disorders incidents. The articles which had reports
on fashion models made very specific measurements on height, weight, hips, and waist. This
information which is made by the media is proposing an ideal size to those who read these articles
in magazines. In the study it was also found that women magazines promote cosmetic treatments,
diet, and beauty products in which to show how women can change their physical appearance.
Through the studies on these articles it was showed that newspapers and magazines have much
more of a greater influence on women with eating disorders. The media had failed to correct this
issue by stating the negative aspects of the disorders; however they focused more on the idea of
perfectionism, ambition, and great academic. The articles also show how the media do not base this

Beauty always has been a center of instinctive attention. It fascinates and paralyzes the power of
thinking. After all, beauty is the cause of disputes and propagation of love. For instance, men look at
beauty before anything else. Jacob and Whilhelm Grimm's "Little Snow–White" gives us a better
look on the idea of both beauty power and competition. For example, the queen becomes jealous of
Snow–White's beauty and orders her huntsman to kill her but because she is so beautiful the
huntsman let her live. This demonstrates how women are competing with each other when it comes
to their beauty and how even the toughest men become weak due to a woman's beauty. In the tale
'Sun, Moon, and Talia' byGiambattista Basile, the king goes out to hunt and comes across an
inhabited palace. In that palace, he finds Talia sleeping due to an enchanted spell. He finds her

Natural beauty, in this day and age, is a term that has many definitions because it is a controversial
term. With the way people dress, act, and express themselves, it is extremely hard to find the true

Since a young age, my life has been centered on artistic expression and a fascination for beauty. At
the age of 9, I told my scientist mother and mathematician father that I wanted to be a ballerina.
My parents were always big supporters of the arts, and encouraged me to try many creative outlets.
They had no notion that my weekly ballet and tap classes would turn into a career to prosper. From
that moment on, my life revolved around ballet. I loved every minute of the self–expression and

school, The Keystone School. I was constantly surrounded by musicians, costume designers, set

day at Lincoln Center with The School of American Ballet and The Bolshoi Ballet Summer

this day and age, people, women especially, are being pressured more and more to keep up with this
"image" that society says women should look like. The idea of a perfect woman today is comprised
of clear skin, perfectly shaped eyebrows, straight white teeth, and a small waist with an oversized
butt and breasts. There are plenty of women who may have all of the qualities just mentioned, but
there are also many women who don't have any of them. What people don't realize is there is no

After several women, the artist is finished and he hangs up all of the work he had drawn. On the
left, he hangs the drawing of the woman describing herself. On the right, is the drawing of the
woman being described by the stranger. When the artist reveals the two, the women immediately
look disappointed in the drawing on the left. The drawings look sad, mean, and/or lifeless. When
they look to the right, they are pleasantly surprised with the beauty that those drawings possess. This
is when the artist tells them that that drawing was done based on another individual's idea of her.
Many of the women are touched by this and realize that other people don't see them the way they do.

experimenting with her image and what she revealed to the world via social media. Three months
prior to posting this video, she started posting pictures of herself on social media without any
