The purpose of this study to ascertain if there is any variation in political skill dimensions ((a) social astuteness, (b) interpersonal influence, (c) networking ability and (d) apparent sincerity) exhibited by employees in India’s seven industry sectors. In this study, the Political Skill Inventory (PSI) is used to examine such variations. Five hundred fifty survey respondents are employed in seven sectors viz. automobile, education, finance, fast moving consumer goods, health, information technology and telecom. The results exemplify that statistically significant differences are exhibited in these political skill dimensions by the employees in different industry sectors chosen for this research. Since these differences are reflected on four dimensions of the political skill, this study makes a unique contribution by developing an understanding of individual dimensions of political skill, thus, enabling greater insight into skill enhancement at various levels. Further, this study contributes by furnishing insights on skills useful for practitioners to understand dominance and lack of industry-specific skills within PSI inventory. The implications of this study could be in the areas such as personnel selection, framing skill development tools and programmes, enhancing job performance, achieving organizational goals and improvising organizational culture.

Social Work, Politics, and Social Policy Education: Applying a Multidimensional Framework of Power Amy Krings , Vincent Fusaro , Kerri Leyda Nicoll, and Na Youn Lee ABSTRACT The call to promote social justice sets the social work profession in a political context. In an effort to enhance social workers’ preparedness to engage in political advocacy, this article calls on educators to integrate a broad theoretical understanding of power into social policy curricula. We suggest the use of a multidimensional conceptualization of power that emphasizes mechanisms of decision making, agenda control, and attitude formation. We then apply these mechanisms to demonstrate how two prominent features of contemporary politics—party polarization and racially biased attitudes—affect the ability of social workers to influence policy. Finally, we suggest content that social work educators can integrate to prepare future social workers to engage in strategic and effective social justice advocacy. ARTICLE HISTORY Accepted: January 2018 As part of their broader mandate, codified in the National Association of Social Workers (2017) Code of Ethics, social workers are called to advance social and economic justice by participating in political action with, or on behalf of, disadvantaged groups. The goals of such action are broad democratic participation, a fair distribution of power and resources, and an equitable distribution of opportunities (Reisch & Garvin, 2016). To achieve these goals, social workers must go beyond an analysis of how existing policies reinforce or reduce social problems to recognize and strategically engage with the power embedded in political processes themselves. This power not only influences how problems are addressed or ignored but also how they are constructed and understood. Thus, to be effective practitioners and change agents, it is necessary for social workers to “see power as central to understanding and addressing social problems and human needs” (Fisher, 1995, p. 196). At its inception, the social work profession emerged as a leader in shaping policies and programs that improved the health and well-being of disadvantaged people and families. Social workers played key roles in policy areas such as aid to families, Social Security, the juvenile court system, minimum wage, and unemployment insurance (Axinn & Stern, 2012). Just as a football team needs support to help it play well, policy formulation is influenced heavily by policy makers’ need to win support for their proposed policy from policy actors within the for- mal institutions of government and society as a whole. Once policy alternatives are designed, however, some kind of governmental decision must be made regarding the direction and type of governmental action that will follow. This seemingly simple act of making the decision to adopt a proposed course of policy action represents a defining moment in the policy process. Only by adopting policies can a proposed course of action garner legitimacy within the political and public arena. By removing inhibitory phosphate residues from target Cyclin-Dependent Kinases (Cdks), Cdc25 proteins control entry into and progression through various phases of the cell cycle, including mitosis and S (\"Synthesis\") phase. Cdc25 activates cyclin dependent kinases by removing phosphate from residues in the Cdk active site. Also, the phosphorylation of M-Cdk (a complex of Cdk1 and cyclin B) activates Cdc25. Together with Wee1, M-Cdk activation is switch-like. The switch-like behavior forces entry into mitosis to be quick and irreversible. Cdk activity can be reactivated after dephosphorylation by Cdc25. The Cdc25 enzymes Cdc25A-C are known to control the transitions from G1 to S phase and G2 to M phase. C. A cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor (CKI) is a protein that interacts with a cyclin-CDK complex to block kinase activity, usually during G1 or in response to signals from the environment or from damaged DNA. In animal cells, there are two major CKI families: the INK4 family and the CIP/KIP family. The INK4 family proteins are strictly inhibitory and bind CDK monomers. Crystal structures of CDK6-INK4 complexes show that INK4 binding twists the CDK to distort cyclin binding and kinase activity. The CIP/KIP family proteins bind both the cyclin and the CDK of a complex and can be inhibitory or activating. CIP/KIP family proteins activate c.

Solution Agenda setting is the ability to influence the importance of topics on public agenda. The involvement of interest groups in the political circumstances that affect "agenda setting", gives more depth and gravity to the process. It makes the process more relevant and germane. Most importnatly, it gives the matter a practical feel and a tangible feel. The agenda becomes identifiable due to the involvement of interest groups. For example people in India are demanding one rank one pension (OROP) for army and defense personnels, on the same lines as civic officials. The involvement of retired defense personnel (interest groups) has given the process a more relevant outlook. More political parties are involved now. The ways in which the agenda setting can be done are: first level agenda setting - here the importnace is given to the issue on hand. The next level or the second level of agenda setting gives importance to the attributes of the agenda. This level considers how opinion are affected by the agenda.
