QinetiQ’s SAT provides a simple and immersive tool that allows its
users to gain situational awareness of geo-specific locations and
incidents. This helps users to identify enemy tactics by viewing and
interrogating IED and other incident data that have taken place
around them.

The SAT system integrates VBS2 with
custom QinetiQ software (Runtime
Control Panel and Mission Builder) to
provide the user with a simple and
intuitive interface through which to view
historical incident data within a geo-
located three-dimensional simulation.
This enables Users to explore a virtual
environment representing the theatre
to which they will soon be deployed and
overlay historical events in the locations
in which they occurred. Through this,
Users will become familiar with the
environment (general disposition of
buildings, streets and other infrastructure)
and develop a level of situational
awareness, with regard to likely threats,
prior to their arrival in theatre.
Most importantly, the user interface has
been specifically designed to be simple
to use and to give the Users intuitive and
easy access to the information that SAT
contains, but with far more positional
context than the operational C2 systems.
The graphics and icons are easy to see and
explore, and navigation has been made
easy by customising the VBS2 interface.
