2. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
I’ve used a range of different ethnic groups in
my magazine. My main model was a
black punk musician, which is not very common
for punk magazines. Therefore my
media product is different from others. I’ve also
used Caucasian and mixed races in
my magazine.
3.
4. My media product represents young punk artists. My model is
holding
a middle finger. This gesture means hat the model doesn’t
care about anything or
anyone, and makes him seem like a rebel. Obviously that’s
what the punk music is all
about. Most of the punk artists would consider themselves as
rebels. The main model
for my magazine has a rough style. He’s wearing an old
vintage shirt, has paperclips
as his ear piercing and has messy green hair. This again
represents the idea of being a
rebel, rough youngster.
5.
6. Mostly males were used in my magazine because the
majority
of punk artists are men. I did not use any women for any
of my photo shoots although
I mentioned a female artist in my double page spread
article, since she was one of the
band members. I would say that the social group is
represented negatively, since
Punk music is mostly negative and most of the songs are
about vandalism and
violence.
7. What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and
why?
When I did my research I’ve found out that there are loads of publishers out there.
Earlier in my past presentation I motioned that my publisher might be Bauer Media
Group since they already publish similar magazines like “Kerrang!” but later on I’ve
decided that I’m going to be my own publisher since the magazine that inspired me
the most (“Big Cheese”) have their own publisher “Big Cheese Publishing Ltd”.
Of course large range of technologies is going to be used in order to distribute my
magazine. My magazine is going to have a website I mentioned it on the front cover
of my magazine. Users could easily access the website, also I would make pdf
versions of my magazine available for sale on my website, so that the users could
easily buy and read the magazines on their computers. I was thinking about TV
adverts but in the end decided that I’m not going to use TV adverts for my magazine,
since my magazine is targeted for punk readers only I don’t think the majority of
people that watch TV would buy it. So it would be a waste of money. My magazine
would have face book and twitter page so that my readers could follow magazine
updates and events, also so that they could share it on their facebook or twitter
because the people that are friends or followers of our readers would most likely to be
punks.
8. Who would be the audience for your
media product?
The audience of my magazine are most likely to be
punk males or punk females aged
16-30. Majority of the audience for my magazine
would be Caucasians or black.
Since I’m only planning to sell my magazine in
England, majority of my readers
would be people that are seen in Camden, London.
A typical reader would be a rebel
male with dyed hair that wears dark colour clothes.
