World war z analysis
1.
2. I have chosen to analyse the film
trailer World War Z and I have
also chosen to research further into
the film. I have learnt that World
War Z was released June 2013
and its genre is horror. The film
was produced by Brad Pitt’s own
production company Plan B. I have
also learnt that the films budget
was $125 million which is a similar
budget to ‘wolverine’ as it was $120
million, where as normally zombie
films have a smaller budget.
The films plot follows
the main character
throughout. Brad Pitt and
his family are trying to
survive this apocalyptic
event which occurs, the
worlds population has
turned into ‘zombie type
creatures 'and Brad Pitt
plays ‘Gerry Lane’a UN
inspector who was
chosen to inspect the
source of the viral out
break which has
zombified 3 billion
3. nI have also researched that the
director of the film was Marc
Forster, the producers were; Brad
Pitt, Dede Gardener, Jeremy
Kleiner and Ian Bruce. The age
rating of my chosen film is aged
15+ and the film was Distributed
by paramount pictures.
I researched that World War Z
got slammed by critics however
the film has gone on to gross
more than $500 million worldwide.
It made $305.2 million out the
international box office making it
Pitt’s highest grossing movie after
2004’s ‘troy’which made $497.3
million gross.
World War Z’ title appeared
towards the ending of the of the
trailer at exactly 2:26, this could
imply the film has drawn the
audience so much that the title
needs to appear at the a)
remember the title of the film
trailer they're watching and b)
focus on the trailer instead of
trying to remember the name
throughout.
4. The music within the trailer
has a fast tempo, its almost
exaggerated. There's plenty
of dialogue as well as
diegetic sound such as
helicopters, screams and gun
shots. The action begins after
a pause with the music this
has caused suspense.
The clothing that the
characters wear are casual,
they're far from dull as
they're bright and colourful
however it changes throughout
the trailer. The army and
police are in uniform. The
different coloured uniform
suggests the different
services, there's green and
blue uniform which can also
suggest the higher levels of
authority.
5. A tracking shot was
used when we see
the fighter jets, then
it changes to a pov
shot of a soldier in
the back f an aircraft.
A dolly is used to
show the mob is
‘infected’ and the
camera falls
backwards and the
mob runs towards the
camera.
A close up of the
character was
followed shortly
after to show his
reaction to show
traumatising things
he witnessed.
6. We know ‘world war z’is set
somewhere in America due to seeing
all the yellow taxi cabs and
American cars plus there are
skyscrapers. I have noticed there is
a direct shot of the helicopter and
this is the diegetic sound we hear.
The zombie also wears
‘normal’casual clothes as you
would see them as a normal
individual... Until close up when
you see their faces and when
you can tell their clothes are
ripped, as well as their acting as
they walk ‘zombified’.

7. A close-up shot is used as
the flare is being lit this
shows its importance to the
characters as they're trying to
signal for an escape from
their location. This shows
there is a crisis and it
creates an interesting storyline
as it draws the audiences
attention.
8. The army further through the
trailer are filmed carrying scrolls
and huge pictures this isn't typical
as they should he saving people
instead. There area lot of short
takes throughout this suggests the
urgency and panic however a
long take was used for the flare
Brad Pitt lit up. There was a
few black screens where there
was calmness at the start of the
trailer to then total chaos, this
was to show the action.
There was more editing in the
trailer such as the screen which
showed us the total population
loss which was going down, I
thought this was good as it was
realistic as more than 3 billion
people turned zombie.
