The document discusses setting both short-term and long-term goals. It recommends finding one's purpose using the Japanese concept of ikigai, which involves identifying where one's passion, profession, vocation, and mission intersect. Goals should be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound). The document provides an example of short-term goals of improving IT skills and learning French, and long-term goals of starting a hospitality business. It emphasizes celebrating small victories along the way to achieving goals.

SHORT & LONG TERM GOALS
2. • Without a goal in life, we tend to enter our
“comfort zone” and remain there
• Our goals pushes us to get out of our
comfort zone and gain knowledge
• Having a goal makes us creative, turning
our knowledge & experience into new
skills
Importance of having a goal in life
“Your days are numbered. Use them to throw
open the windows of your soul to the sun. If
you do not, the sun will soon set, and you with
it.”
― Marcus Aurelius, The Emperor's Handbook
3. • This is Ikigai
• Ikigai (ee-key-guy) is a Japanese concept that
combines the terms iki, meaning “alive” or
“life,” and gai, meaning “benefit” or “worth.
• Using ikigai, it is easier to analyze and
understand one’s professional and personal
life and plan accordingly
• One should identify where they fall under the
4 quadrants (passion-profession-vocation-
mission) and start moving towards mission
• The long-term goal should be something that
brings you at the center -the Ikigai

4. • The difference between goal and
“wishful thinking” is Plan of Action
• Goals should be SMART-Specific,
Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and
Time-bound.
• Mapping the SMART goals with Ikigai,
one can stay focused and able to
measure the progress
• It is very important to “celebrate the little
victories” that is day to day achievement
of small little tasks that leads to your
goal
