2. You are an IT Manager in an organisation in a
consumer product company which has disparate
solutions running for their various function areas. The
company operations are spread across the country in
more than 100 locations. The organization has
implemented an ERP solution and has achieved
benefits such as standardization of work practices,
reduced inventory levels and better planning. The have
also implemented DW for supporting decision making
process and other technology enablement solutions for
their external stakeholder interactions.
3. With increased business, the organisation is still now
facing a challenge in efficient operation of their
warehouse including tracking of the materials inside
the warehouse. They are also facing an issue of wrong
dispatches to customer, thereby increasing their
distribution costs.
4. Recommend and develop a detailed strategy for
implementing technology enablers to address this
issue. Define the roadmap for implementation and
potential risks and risk mitigation strategies for the
implementation of the enablement project with
process maps highlighting the areas of improvement.
Provide paperless system driven processes
Provide process visibility and management
tools
Improve customer service levels
5.
6. Disconnected manual processes
Limited control due to the volumes
Limited supply chain visibility
Inadequate communication and updates to customers
7. To implement a warehouse management system and
integrate it with existing core ERP solution.
Setting
up RFID enablement in warehouse
management system
We recommend SAP EWM implementation and its
integration with existing SAP ERP solution.
Setting up RFID enablement in SAP EWM
8.
9. SAP EWM will be the baseline for all future Supply
Chain System Strategies
Full Product traceability throughout the Supply Chain
– Inbound and Outbound
Improve Inventory accuracy in the warehouse as result
of the Physical Inventory functionality within EWM.
Improve the accuracy of product picking and dispatch
to customers
Utilise monitoring tools to pro active highlight
potential problem areas in the warehouse
10. Preparing for Change - Not only the warehouse, but
entire
company
is
affected
like
Order
Processing, Purchase, Finance, Distribution etc.
Develop blueprint and make sure that all parties are
involved and add value
Form a steering team - Business, Management, SAP
team and consultants
Map the entire warehouse - Physical storage locations
– bins, storage types, doors, gates etc
Determine upfront what packaging and labels will be
used - Labels for Bins, Boxes
11. Make sure that the Layouts of the printed documents
are properly specified.
Impart User Training - Make sure that the end users
understands the total picture, not just their own
functionality.
If time lines are extended due to other projects re-test
full integration again.
12. Resistance to change
Bad replication of SAP ERP master data to SAP EWM
Training requirements for SAP EWM must not be
underestimated.
Operational Risks.
13. Communication - With SAP EWM being more complex it was
critical that staff understood the changes and the reasons.
Ultimately it is they that will operate the system
Revisit out Master Data in SAP ERP and correct any program
errors. Via the core Interface, master data SAP ERP is replicated
in SAP EWM to process related transactions
Plan and prepare for your training requirements early and make
sure that everyone is focused on the big picture, not just the
push of a button!
Work out a Business Continuity Plan.
14. SAP EWM affects the entire business, not just the warehouse
Make sure you understand the hardware requirements - RF
devices, Printers etc.
Do not underestimate the business blueprint phase - Changes
down the line can be costly and time consuming
Master Data is the ROOT of all evil - Bad master data can and
will bring processes to a standstill. Ensure that someone takes
ownership of your master data as well as the transfer thereof
between SAP EWM and SAP ERP
Timely communicate the changes as well as the reasons for it
