Compare And Contrast Andrew Carnegie And Richard Arkwright
Andrew Carnegie was a famous steel company owner who lived from 1835 to 1919. He was born in Scotland but came to the United States with his
family when he was 12. He had very similar achievements to Richard Arkwright, who owned cotton mills and cotton processing patents in England in
the 1700s. Both Andrew Carnegie and Richard Arkwright are remembered as powerful industrialists who built great capitalist fortunes by starting and
growing large dominant companies. Richard Arkwright and Andrew Carnegie both had similar career paths and significant impacts on the Industrial
Revolutions of their time because of their innovative use of new technologies and their ability to lead others. Richard Arkwright was the youngest of

The Capitalists Who Shaped Post-Civil War America
Accurately established by many historians, the capitalists who shaped post–Civil War industrial America were regarded as corrupt "robber barons". In
a society in which there was a severe imbalance in the dynamics of the economy, these selfish individuals viewed this as an opportunity to advance in
their financial status. Thus, they acquired fortunes for themselves while purposely overseeing the struggles of the people around them. Presented in
Document A, "as liveried carriage appear; so do barefooted children", proved to be a true description of life during the 19th century. In hopes of
rebuilding America, the capitalists' hunger for wealth only widened the gap between the rich and poor. During the 1800's, business leaders who built ...

As the capitalists continued their corruption, "the wealthy class became wealthier; but the poorer class became more dependant. The gulf between the
employed and the employer was growing wider" (Document A). Similarly, many actions performed by these capitalists, contributed to the sorrowful
lives of many farmers, who were struggling to survive. Pursuing this further, the rich soil of the West was becoming poor, and floods contributed to the
problem, and, eventually caused erosion. Beginning in the summer of 1887, a series of droughts forced many people to abandon their farms and towns.
As circumstances worsened, farmers were beginning to be controlled by corporations and processors. The farmers were at the mercy of many trusts,
which, in turn, could control the productivity and raise prices to high levels. Furthermore, during the late 19th century, many farmers considered
monopolies, trusts, railroads, and money shortages as evident threats to their lifestyle. The rise of these monopolies and trusts worried many farmers
because they felt that the disappearance of competition would lead to erratic and unreasonable price rises that would harm consumers. Oftentimes,
these "robber barons" would prevent competitors from reaching the markets by restricting their ability to transport their goods. In Document E, James
B. Weaver wrote of the main weapons of the trust–organized commerce: threats, intimidation, bribery, fraud,

The Growth Of The Internet
"Every now and then, a technology comes along that is so profound, so powerful, so universal that its impact will change everything. It will transform
every institution in the world. It will create winners and losers, will change the way we do business, the way we teach our children, communicate and
interact as individuals." (Gerstner L., 1996).
The growth of the internet has changed the way that consumers buy and the way that brands and consumer will communicate with one another as a
consequence of this. The growth of the internet has had a serious impact within the market industry and each business will need to take this into
account. As a result of the growth the communication models have been restructured to keep up–to–date with the ... Show more content on

Types of interactivity that are deemed as being acceptable and non–interruptive to consumers are the likes of QR codes, social media websites such as
Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter where consumers can have a conversation between themselves or to the brand directly. Therefore marketers now need
to use Permission marketing, where they must ask a consumer their permission to deliver marketing communications to them. Examples of this are
brands having to ask Facebook users permission to post statuses and news on the consumer's timeline on their behalf. While consumers are registering
their details when creating an account within a company's website they are also given the option of opting in or out of receiving emails, SMS messages
or letters regarding any promotional deals or news within the company.
Marketers now have to be upfront with consumers when asking them to share personal data; however, they are still various methods that brands can
gather intelligence from about their current and potential consumers. One method is the cookie tool, it is a tool used by web sites to store

The Gilded Age : The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age was a time where new prosperities and opportunities were forming after the end of the bloody American Civil War. The United States
was able to rebuild itself after philanthropists started to help change the country into something superior and steered it away from the dreariness of the
last few years. The ultra wealthy entrepreneurs of the time primarily were John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and J. Pierpont Morgan. These men
were given the name "captain of industries" coined by Thomas Carlyle in his book, Past and Present, to describe compassionate and important men who
made significant impacts on the nation and people of America. The wealthy industrialists of the late 19th century were "captain of industries" because
they created new enterprises, they provided jobs for countless citizens, and donated to charitable causes. The industrialists of the late 19th century
were "captains of industry" because they created new industries that further flourished the United States and its economy. Railroad tycoons such as
"Cornelius Vanderbilt, James J. Hill, and Jay Gould" created the "transcontinental railroad [that] would allow for settlement of the west, new markets
for eastern manufacturers, and relief to overcrowded eastern cities" ("Binding the Nation by Rail" 1). The railroad system connected those who are
thousands of miles away and allowed goods to reach parts of the United States that it could not previously. As a result, the prices of goods dropped a

Industrial Hemp: The Great Debate
Industrial Hemp The Great Debate
Introduction
Many knowledgeable people who know and understand the potential of industrial hemp are convinced that it is one of the world's most perfect
products. Its fiber makes rope and cloth which is very strong and resilient and when used to make paper products, the production is far tidier and
much more efficient than using wood to make paper. Hemp is indeed considered one of the world's oldest agricultural products and hemp has a history
in the United States that includes the fact that the Declaration of Independence and the original St. James Bible are actually printed on hemp paper.
The list of practical uses is lengthy and impressive, but due to drug laws in the United States the growing of cannabis for industrial hemp uses is
illegal; this has been a source of considerable controversy in the United States. The uses of industrial hemp and the debate as to whether industrial
hemp farming should be allowed in the U.S. will be reviewed and critiqued in this paper.
Thesis: This paper takes the position that industrial hemp should be legal in America, because it has been proven useful in myriad applications for
many years, because it is not potent for smoking albeit it's from the same species, because it could create thousands of jobs, and because in the fight
against global warming industrial hemp absorbs four times as much carbon dioxide and can produce as much as four times the fiber than trees can.

Andrew Carnegie: Steel King Of America
Andrew Carnegie, also known as the steel king of America, was an influential businessman during the late 1800s. In addition to being a business
tycoon, Carnegie was also a philanthropist. By utilizing free enterprise, Carnegie was able to create a build a fortune from the ground up. Free
enterprise is "an economic system in which private business operates in competition and largely free of state control." Resources are owned by the
people, instead of the government, and the government only interferes to ensure overall peace and order. Without free enterprise as an economic
system, Carnegie would not have been able to become a business mogul, because he would not have been able to make his own economic decisions
and build his own business.

Captain of Industry: someone who uses intelligence and clever business tactics to achieve economic prosperity.

In the first quote, Carnegie means that the men share their wealth with the community; they help the less fortunate prosper as well. Carnegie implies
that the men make money for not only themselves but others.
By "survival of the fittest," Carnegie means that the most capable people will succeed and prosper, while the others fail. He is promoting the idea of
Social Darwinism, the belief that wealth is a measure of one's inherent value and those who had it were the "most fit."

The cartoonist is trying to make the point that these "protectors of our industries" are oppressing and taking advantage of the workers. He portrays

Robber Barons Research Paper
From accomplishments to all the profits, industrialists made many sacrifices to be who they are and being successful by becoming an robber baron.
The term robber baron is an American capitalist at the turn of the 19th century who enriched himself upon the sweat of others or exploited natural
resources Captain of industry led people to make and be able to accomplish without anyones help. Industrialists should be able to say what they are and
what they accomplished but they use any advantages they have and using people even their own workers.
The Industrialists are robber barons. Industrialists made their workers work for little pay, did not care about the people's health, and made an immoral
government influence or plutocracy. In the gilded age, a few of the industrialists were robber barons who became successful by paying their workers
low wages. An example of a robber baron is John D. Rockefeller, he was a aiming to be an philanthropist. In the article, The new Tycoons: John D.

What Is Andrew Carnegie's Reputation Among His Workers Dbq
"A good reputation is more valuable than money."(Publilius Syrus) Andrew Carnegie did not seem very worried about his reputation among his
workers! Andrew Carnegie's managers and Andrew Carnegie himself had horrible connections and relations with his workers. His workers' conditions
were ineffective and unreasonable. Andrew Carnegie should be imprinted in human story as a robber baron due to the ghastly conditions his workers
wrought under and the heinous worker–employer relations with his workers.
Andrew Carnegie's horrific worker–employer relations often led to problems between the two. Andrew Carnegie felt no compassion for his workers in
the factories. His assistant, under the approval of Andrew Carnegie, surrounded the workers with armed guards and tried to use the Pinkerton guards to
forcefully work their way into the factory. He even had the Pinkerton guards forcefully lock the strikers out of the fence surrounding the factory.

ghastly conditions. They had only 5 min. to eat, and some didn't even eat lunch. They drank about 2 buckets per day of water and were always
drenched in sweat. This is not right, nor should it be fine for Carnegie to make all this money. He made 4,000 times his workers per hour! These

The Collapse Of Andrew Carnegie
The late 1800's and early 1900's a new era had commenced; the rise of unprecedented fortunes and unprecedented poverty, loosening social mores,
unsanitary food production, the onrush of foreign immigration, environmental destruction–confronted Americans. The rise of fortunes came the rise of
the keepers of fortunes, one of which was Andrew Carnegie. His business, which became known as the Carnegie Steel Company, revolutionized steel
production in the United States. Carnegie built plants around the country, using technology and methods that made manufacturing steel easier, faster
and more productive. For every step of the process, he owned exactly what he needed: the raw materials, ships and railroads for transporting the
goods, and even coal fields to fuel the steel furnaces. There are two sides to every person, especially one with money, Captains of Industry and Robber
Baron. A Captain of Industry, is a leader in their field. The money their companies generates does not go to them and only them, but they focus on
helping the economy, less fortunate, and giving back to the community; creating wealth. The juxtaposition of a Captain of Industry is a Robber Baron.
They focus their efforts on benefits for themselves, at the expense of workers, communities and economies.
"One of the captains of industry of 19th century, Andrew Carnegie helped build the formidable American steel industry, a process that turned a poor
young man into one of the richest entrepreneurs of his age.

Pros And Cons Of The Gilded Age
Looking at the Bigger Picture In the late 18th to the early 19th century, some people were desperate to make money fast. Populations were growing so
rapidly, and people struggled to make enough living for their families. In conjunction, the United States tried to transition into a more modern and
efficient world. This resulted in new ideas and inventions, in hopes to make living easier in a changing world. This period of time was known as the
Gilded Age. Nineteenth century entrepreneurs are captains of industry based on their ability to boost the economy, the standard of living increased, and
the lasting impression they made on America.
Looking at entrepreneurs as robber barons is somewhat credible because of businessmen's tendency to claw their way to the top, despite hurting
others along the way. However, on the opposite side of the spectrum, the jobs provided by these entrepreneurs ended up helping the American
economy. Business owners were responsible for, "the American economy [to grow and grow]. By 1914, the small nation once seen as a playground
for European empires had now surpassed them all" (The Gilded Age). These owners are captains of industry because of their ability to boost the
economy and further progress America in the right direction. America started out as a small nation, but due to mainly business, America was able to
surpass even larger nations. Other business figures, such as Thomas Alva Edison, invented the, "electric light bulb... which

Andrew Carnegie Captain of Industry
Andrew Carnegie was a philanthropist, gracious boss and an intelligent boss.
Carnegie grew up in Scotland and came to the U.S. in 1848. Carnegie started at a local textile mill, ever since then he strived. However some people
argue whether Carnegie is a Captain of industry or a Robber Baron. I believe that Andrew Carnegie is a Captain of Industry. Carnegie is known for
giving back to his community and workers. Along with a quotes from his book "Wealth".In the quote Carnegie says "Not evil, but good, has come to
the race from the accumulation of wealth by those who have the ability and energy to produce it". Alongside a quote from a map of all of Carnegie

One reason Carnegie was a Captain of industry was that he donated $4,000,000 dollars to the Homestead Relief fund. The Homestead Relief fund
goes to the steelworkers and their families. In addition he donated $50,365,00 dollars for free public libraries. This shows how Carnegie gave back to
his workers and community.Instead of trying to get money in the most abysmal way he was giving away millions of dollars to multiple funds!
Andrew Carnegie rewarded his workers with the best. Carnegie believes it is the rich's job to help the less fortunate. Again in his book "Wealth", in
the quote Carnegie says "Not evil, but good, has come to the race from the accumulation of wealth by those who have the ability and energy to
produce it". Carnegie shows this by donating to the Homestead Relief Fund. Also by paying his Iron and Steel Workers the highest salary at $660.65
dollars a year. which was more than enough to support a typical six–member family.
Even though Andrew Carnegie was born in Scotland he created so much business for the U.S. From the map of all of Carnegie properties is says

Captains Of Industry Essay
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, during the climax of the American Industrial Revolution, there was a small group of men who owned the major
businesses and were leaders of their industries. They owned factories, railroads, banks, and even created company towns for the sole purpose of
housing their workers. Due to the efforts of these few men, the U.S. economy became the envy of the world, and America became a leading world
power. They provided the public with products that were in high demand for reasonable prices, and opened their markets to countries overseas.
Although many people believe the early industrialists were Robber Barons who exploited the poor, these great men were truly Captains of Industry who
created new ways of doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although some of these criticisms are well founded, men like Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were, in fact, Captains of Industry because
they employed millions and created new ways of doing business. Before all these industrialists can along, America was just another country that
had little significance to the world. If it was not for them, we as a nation would not be where we are today. The industrialists prospered mainly due
to their wit, and the many innovations that they brought to their various fields of business. They created monopolies because they were the most
effective forms of enterprise, and there were no laws that prohibited or restricted their use. As John D. Rockefeller himself said, "I believe in the
spirit of combination and cooperation when properly conductedВ….It helps to reduce waste, and waste is a dissipation of power."(Danzer 424)
Critics say that these men ruthlessly took over their fields of business, and "did not play fair". What's wrong with striving for success? What's wrong
with being efficient? What's wrong with making a product that no one can equal? What's wrong with besting your competitors? Nothing. The
principal reason for the success of the industrialists was their ability to provide products and services to the public at reasonable rates. This was also
the main reason that they were so despised and vilified by their competitors and the covetous

common material. Carnegie's mills became chaotic because there were so many buyers. Most of his steel was used to help build big cities. In the late

Carnegie sold his steel for a low price to get more people to buy it. His workers didn't get paid as much as they would have liked because of this.
He eliminated his competition by lowering the prices of his steel. The workers were endangered because there could be explosion and fires in the
factory they were surrounded by machines and sharp objects and materials. He then sold the steel company to jp morgan in 1901 for $480 million. In

The Gilded Age : Robber Barons And Captain Of Industry
Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and J.P. Morgan all have something in common they're well known for being wealthy
businessmen in the late 19th century. Robber Barons and Captain of Industry are mostly known from the Gilded Age. Mark Twain called the late 19th
century the "Gilded Age" because he was referring to this period being glittering on the surface but corrupt underneath (Overview of the Gilded Age,
Digital History). Most of the businessmen during this day in time just wanted to help themselves and their businesses, which you could compare to
today. However, these historical figures established a foundation for industrial advances, business development and technological advances in America
today.
The term "Robber Baron" describes a business owner who obtained their wealth based on unfair practices (Overview of the Gilded Age, Digital
History). During this time immigrants were coming overseas needing jobs to support their families. The business owners took notice of this and took
it as an opportunity to make money by paying the immigrants low wages but working them excruciatingly long hours. By doing this, businesses
began to increase their income because they weren't obligated to pay laborers. Thanks to the businessmen of the Gilded Age who treated their
companies and laborers unfairly, there are now laws and regulations as to how many hours a person can work in a week. Another positive that came
out of these historical figures is, we now

Andrew Carnegie's Life During The Progressive Era
During the Progressive Era there was a lot of horrible things happening. There were people that didn't try to make it easier to live at this time.
Those people didn't care who they hurt or took over to get what they wanted to get more money. Andrew Carnegie is a robber baron and that means
he will do whatever is necessary to be on top. He was born November 25, 1835 in Dunfermline United Kingdom. when he was 16 he had a friend in
scotland and they wrote letter to each other. Carnegie wrote to him a lot about different things. They discuss how their two countries were so different
in the way that it handles different issues. at that time he was so good at writing letters that he wrote for the newspaper. When Carnegie was younger

Utilizing and Exploiting Intellectual Property Laws
In today's modern business environment, one in which competition is not limited by national borders and technology allows millions of people access
to new products, the senior management structure of any successful corporation must be adept at utilizing and exploiting intellectual property laws.
Conceiving and conceptualizing a new idea, and creating a viable item for public consumption from that inspiration, has always been the hallmark of
energetic and efficient companies. With the advent of theinternet and the subsequent interconnectedness of globalization, however, it has become
increasingly important that original ideas, goods, and services are protected through the exclusive rights granted by the trademark process. Citing the
spread of internet technology and its marked effect on business practices, an article in The New Yorker recently observed that "fewer than ten thousand
tech industry trademarks were registered in the United States as of 1980, but in 2011 more than 300,000 of these trademarks have been obtained"
(Colapinto, 2011). Savvy corporate executives and upper managers know that effectively branding a particular product through unique logos, color
schemes, labels, symbols, or any other distinctive iconography is perhaps the most significant step that upper management can take to protect their
market share, and trademark registration provides the first level of protection against unlawful imitation by competing companies. Various emblems

The Tremendous Growth Of E Commerce During The Last...
The tremendous growth of E–commerce during the last century could baffle some economist. The market space in the last decade has made a major
improvement. In the first few years, we were seeing the growth of search engines and portals. This is when the Business to Consumer market began
to increase. Over the last couple years, the Business to Business market has shown significant growth. To answer any predetermined questions, we
will discuss important impacts of information asymmetry in business. Information Asymmetry can be described as one side of a transaction having
more knowledge of the product than the other. This could go both ways. The consumer may know more or the seller may know more. For instance,
in the 70's, the seller had a huge advantage over the consumer. Because of this, consumers were making purchase decisions that were very high in
price. It was harder for the consumer to bargain prices back then because there was no way of knowing whether or not you were getting a good deal
or being fed false information. Jumping back to today's world, if a consumer is not sure whether or not they are getting a good deal or not, they may
look up prices for the same product sold by a different merchant. Asymmetric information has a huge impact on decisions people make about where to
purchase a product. But, even though this sounds like it only hurts the merchant, there is an advantage for the merchant. In today's world we can obtain
information from the customers.

Was J.P. Morgan a Captain of Industry or a Robber Baron?
Was J.P. Morgan a Captain of Industry or a Robber Baron? In the early nineteenth century the USA was very corrupt. It was a time were monopolistic
businesses thrived, and small ones failed. In this time was when J.P. Morgan became the man controlling the most money in the world and ended up
owning at his peak, forty companies. In the early nineteenth century J.P Morgan was both a Captain of industry and a Robber Baron. J.P. Morgan was
considered by many a robber baron, and there are many reasons for this. Pierpont was the richest man in the world in the early nineteenth century, he
got to that position by doing things that nowadays would be considered as shady. He owned the biggest monopolistic business ever owned, that means

He was called upon twice to save the country's economy, and he did both times. President Roosevelt, decided that he didn't want people who were
as powerful as Pierpont, so he decided to disband Pierpont's railroad company, which was one of his biggest companies. Later on when the country
hit a crisis, what did Roosevelt do? He called upon the man he had hurt economically, the only man who could pull them off the crisis before the
country went bankrupt. Pierpont was very patriotic, and although it's leader had really done a lot of damage to his finance empire, he decided to
help. Pierpont devised a genius plan, and he managed to pull it off, and save the country from a depression. By saving the country he managed to
push the country's industry forward, and gain a lot of power in the process, and that is why many people might call him a robber baron, but the
deed of saving the country's economy, in my believe, overrides all other accusations, and crimes (to a certain point). In conclusion, is J.P. Morgan a
Captain of Industry or a Robber Baron? In my believe he is a bit of both, he saved the country twice from bankruptcy, and he greatly helped the
country's industry in many ways. He did all this, but he did it in a way in which he would greatly profit from, and some people said that he used shady
methods to achieve his goals.

Russell Conwell Research Paper
Amongst the plethora of great minds and influences that powered the 19th Century, such as business moogle J.D. Rockefeller and revolutionary
industrialist Andrew Carnegie, only a select few can compare to the enormous legacy left behind by the charismatic and philanthropic Dr. Russell
Herman Conwell. Considered as one of the most brilliant thinkers and passionate orators of his time; Russell Conwell became quite an admirable man
because of his modest beginnings as a farmer in Massachusetts, who then transcended himself into the foremost educational entrepreneur of the Gilded
Age. The documents and sources provided by Temple University's Library to preserve Russell Conwell's history are sufficient enough to bestow
insight in regard to this great man's life, nonetheless, many of the facts relative to Conwell's personal life and military service are still shrouded in
mystery despite the collection offered by the exhibit.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the online documents claim that his militia was disbanded after they "experienced light action" Conwell later rejoined late in the summer
and was deemed the captain of Company D, Second Regiment, Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. Aside from this excerpt regarding Conwell's military
service, the remaining sources and articles provide no additional information in connection to the remainder of Conwell's service as well as other
missing details from his personal life which proves to be an enormous pitfall of the exhibit. In spite of neglecting some of the more historically relevant
information, the exhibit tends to focus on the byproduct of Conwell's life and the legacy that he left

Andrew Carnegie: A Captain Of His Industry Or A Robber Baron
Andrew Carnegie: The Man of Steel It has been thoroughly debated whether Andrew Carnegie was a captain of his industry or a robber baron. He
was a successful entrepreneur that created the Carnegie Steel Company in the late 1800s, a company that monopolized the production of steel. It
has been ardently deliberated whether Andrew Carnegie was a robber baron who mistreated his workers and destroyed unions or that he was a
captain of industry who paved the way for future steel companies. There are also many accomplished entrepreneurs in the world today that were
much like Andrew Carnegie. Andrew Carnegie was known to be the most hypocritical of all robber barons. He supported worker's rights but couldn't
uphold his own moral code. Under his watch, his company cut worker's wages and extended hours. Carnegie caused an uprise of his own workers and
created the Homestead Strike of 1892. He approved that his company should hire men to intimidate the workers into submission, which sparked
violence and ultimately resulted in many people getting killed. Andrew Carnegie used his wealth and influence to his benefit, paying a replacement to
fight for him to avoid getting drafted in the Civil War. Andrew Carnegie was a powerful robber baron that used vertical integration to control the steel
industry.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He transformed the economy of the U.S through his business skills. It was because of his wise choices and investments that helped him rise to the
top. It also made him a captain of industry because he owned every step of the process of producing steel, from creating it, to transporting it, to selling
it. He didn't keep his wealth all to himself. After selling his business, he spent the end of his life helping others and donating his money to good causes.
Making positive contributions to the country is another reason why he was a captain of

Andrew Carnegie were ruthless regarding capitalistic ventures in the late 19th century. It is far more apparent to the current population the inherent
value that men like Carnegie held in regards to the growth and development of American cities. The philanthropic ventures set forth by many of the

humanitarian efforts propagated by Carnegie and facilitated by his foundation truly proved to be influential in the betterment of urban and agricultural

B2C and B2B Web Site Supply Chain Difference
B2C and B2B Web Site Supply Chain Differences
Ah, the wonders that technology has wrought in the world of business. Or should it be phrased: ah, the wonders that business has called forth from the
world of technology? Whether it is the chicken or the egg, many changes have developed and with the advancements in what is now called e–business,
businesses and consumers have benefited.
Though e–businesses vary in scope and methods, they can be categorized basically as business–to–consumer (B2C) or a business–to–business (B2B). A
B2B model involves transactions between one business and another business. A B2C model involves transactions between a business and individual
consumers. The term B2C could be applied to any business or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These networks are more flexible and respond to economic fluctuations with more speed and ease than hierarchically (top–down) structured businesses.
The ultimate goal of supply chain management is to achieve a higher–quality or lower–cost product at the end of the chain. This requires building
long–term relationships with a small number of very capable suppliers, who in turn have their own relationships with suppliers.
The current standard is for e–businesses to invest in one of several new information systems, capable of increasing efficiency in the production line by
controlling the logistics in every element of its supply chain. Two such IT systems are EDI and VAN. Schneider gives an example of Boeing 's success
implementing EDI:
Using EDI and Internet links, Boeing is working with suppliers so that they can provide exactly the right part or assembly at exactly the right time.
By its second year of using these new systems, Boeing had cut in half the time needed to complete individual assembly processes. It has realized
similar reductions in part defect costs. The combined effects of these increased efficiencies are helping Boeing do a much better job of meeting its
customers ' needs. Instead of waiting 36 months for delivery, customers can now have their new airplanes in 10 to 12 months. (Schneider, 2004, p. 230)
The primary benefit that arises from such increased

Pros And Cons Of Robber Barons
To decide upon which of either title the titans deserve more of, let us first consider what exactly identifies and discerns a captain from a filthy baron.
A captain of industry is a leader in their field. The prosperity their expertise generates does not necessarily go to them. It advances or benefits the entire
economy. They createwealth. A robber baron, by comparison, focuses all their efforts on creating or benefiting themselves, at the expense of society as
a whole. They exploit wealth and are filthy economic sell–outs. Knowing the difference, it holds true that the super rich economic titans of industry
shouldn't be particularly referred to as captains or barons. All titans, from "Commodore" Vanderbilt to J.P. Morgan, were so deserving

The Impact Of Social Media On Business Essay
The relentless emergence of the diverse Social Media platforms has been impacting the way people and businesses interact and communicate with each
other. The purpose of the paper is to highlight the dynamics by which businesses and particularly Business to Business (B2B) companies attract
customers and promote their products and services to them using social media. With an increasing competitiveness in various fields and the innovative
ways marketers use to bring new prospects, some businesses have been left behind and have known a considerable decrease in their productivity due
to the lack of use of the adequate social media channels.
Research findings showed that LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are the best digital platforms that B2B companies should be using for an
optimum exposure and a greater interaction with existing clients and prospects.
Even though many businesses have accounts in some or in all these platforms, they are not regularly updating them and not using them to their fullest.
This paper goes over many of the benefits the four social media platforms mentioned above represent for B2B companies.
When we think about all the technological breakthroughs that we have been witnessing for decades, it becomes harder to conceive a world devoid of
any of these technologies. Our dependency to the incessant emergence of products is reshaping our visions of the world, our behaviors, our lifestyles,
our priorities, as well as our purchasing habits. The

Andrew Carnegie Rhetoric
Andrew Carnegie rose from a bobbin boy in a textile factory to become one of the richest men in America. In the late 19th century, Andrew Carnegie
was known as one of the wealthiest Scottish American industrialist who basically ran the American steel industry in the late 19th century. Some people
believe that Andrew Carnegie was a philanthropist automatically means he's a Captain of Industry. However Andrew Carnegie was a robber baron, and
was wealthy for that exact reason.
In such manner, Andrew Carnegie treated his workers' as such a robber baron would, which is poorly and in dangerous conditions. Furthermore,
Andrew Carnegie was unsympathetic for his workers'' health seeing as he had put them in unhealthy and dangerous conditions. ... Show more content

However, this is inaccurate because he had treated his workers like they were nothing, even putting them into the situation of dangerous conditions.
There are many more characteristics to a Captain of Industry but robbing companies, and putting your workers in dangerous conditions is not one of
them. " 'Yes, the men call this the deathtrap' he repeated my guide; '... they wipe a man out here every little while.... Sometimes a chain breaks, and a
ladle tip over; and the iron explodes ––– like that.... Sometimes the slag falls on the workmen from the roadway up there" (Page 357). He fools other
people with his donations making it seem like he is captain of industry when in reality he also put people in dangerous conditions and pay them
not enough for it. He doesn't help his workers enough with the wages and dangerous conditions. His workers not being the only evidence of him
not being a captain of industry. "A man watches out, why, all right! But you take it after they've been on duty for twelve hours without sleep, and
running like hell, everybody tired and logy and it's a different story" (Page 357). Andrew Carnegie was someone who put his workers in the kind of
danger that any day one of the workers can get trampled or killed by one of the machines especially since they are tired from working long hours.
Andrew Carnegie had no kind heart, nor cared for his workers instead he was inconsiderate and selfish, he was only for himself and money, which do

Robber Barons versus Captains of Industry
Robber Barons vs. Captains of Industry
During the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century, both robber barons and captains of industry were terms used to place businessmen into a good or
bad category. The term robber baron is a representation of industrialist who used manipulative methods in order to reach enormous quantities of wealth.
Some characteristics of robber barons were: they depleted America of its valuable resources, forced authority to pass laws that would work in there
favor, make opponents in the industry go out of business, and force laborers to work in hazardous circumstances with little pay. The term captains of
industry meant the exact opposite, these businessmen did positive things in order to reach enormous quantities of wealth. Some characteristics of
captains of industry were: they constructed factories to make the accessibility of goods rise, increased production, developed markets, gave to charity,
and created more jobs with generous pay. While many historians believe that the industrialist of the 19th century were captains of industry there are
others that would object and say that they were indeed robber barons. Would you consider the great industrialist of the 19th century to be robber barons
or would you consider them as captains of the industry?
I believe that the industrialist of the 19th century were indeed robber barons. There are many factors that would justify the fact that these industrialists

Ethical And Legal Importance Of Social Responsibility
(1575)An Analysis of the Ethical and Legal Importance of Social Responsibility in Corporate Culture
This business study will analyze the ethical and legal importance of social responsibility in corporate culture. Friedman (1970) defines the dangers of
'social responsibility" as a threat to the individualism and profit motives of corporate executives that must serve the corporation before the larger
society. More so, Friedman argues that the corporation is an "artificial person" that relies on the free markets to correct problems with non–productive,
hazardous, or useless products may interfere with the stability of society. Glasbeek's (2002) critique of Friedman's "artificial person" defines the
problematic propaganda of the corporation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Milton (1970 presents the individual role of the corporate executive as being legally bound to maximize the profits of the corporation over any
potential interference from society and/or the government. In the capitalist system, the importance of private property and individual ownership
maintain the ethical necessity of corporate executive act only on the behalf of the corporation, especially in the context of the corporation as a its own
type of "artificial person":
Only people have responsibilities. A corporation is an artificial person and in this sense may have artificial responsibilities, but "business" as a whole
cannot be said to have responsibilities, even in this vague sense (Friedman, 1970, para.2).
In this type of private sector environment, the individual responsibility of the corporate executive must only protect the interests of the corporation, as
well as the profits that need to made to sustain this type of private capitalist institution. Therefore, making money for the corporation will improve the
wealth of the company, which will then makes it possible to employ people in society and share in this wealth as a social benefit. In this manner, the
legal and ethical "obligation" of the corporate executive must never take responsibility for what the corporation may do to threaten social stability (the

How Did Andrew Carnegie A Ruthless Millionaire Dbq

Andrew Carnegie was a ruthless millionaire because of him having a under average wage to so many people that for example led to Homestead Strike

Andrew Carnegie believed in social darwinism that was a way of thinking that the strongest and the ones giving the most effort climes the social
ladder the most and his competitor in that area was the great danish person named Jacob Riis who wrote the book called how the other half lives
showing the horrible living conditions of how the poor half of the country lived and wrote (notes).

Carnegie gave people several gifts that he used to help himself like Homestead Relief Fund that was worth 4 million dollars, which helped him out
in different ways for it for example helped out the steel workers to keep them in a better shape to do more work, kept their small hopes up and gave
him a much better image(Doc N, Doc O).
Carnegie was able to give away these big gifts because he was lowering the wages of his workers to do so, which The Saturday Globe shows very well
in their picture(Doc O).
Andrew Carnegie started his business in the american steel industry that he had created because of him studying how the english made steel. Because
of him getting so early, compared to his later competitors, in the steel industry he managed to vertical intergrate all the steps for steel production,
shipping and selling. And because he had gotten such a good holding in the industry he then got a monopoly out of it.(notes)
When Allegheny Bessemer Steel began to look like a threat for Carnegie's monopoly, he told the railroads lies about Allegheny Bessemer Steel so that
the railroads would not buy steel from them. In one year Allegheny Bessemer Steel felt the squeeze and the year after was forced to sell out to

The Gilded Age : The Gilded Age
Mark Twain named the 1870's to 1900 the Gilded Age. He called this time that because gilded means covered in gold, this describes America,
because if your looking at America from the outside in it looked good and business was booming. But if you lived in and worked in America you
would have seen the problems and saw that everything was not good as it seemed. He called this time that because gilded means covered in gold,
this describes America, because if your looking at America from the outside in it looked good and business was booming. But if you lived in and
worked in America you would have seen the problems and saw that everything was not good as it seemed. The wealthy industrialists were robber
barons because they paid low wages, poor working conditions, and there was manipulation of laws.
While some people might say that the wealthy industrialist helped America and increased the unemployment rate. The wealthy industrialists were
robber barons because they paid low wages when they were making an abundant amount of cash. The work that the employees of the factories were
doing was very dangerous and hard. "At the turn of the century, when the average worker earned $8 to $10 per week"("The New Tycoons:John D.
Rockefeller" pg.8). That quote shows the employees got paid only a little bit for a lot of work. The amount of hours that the employees would work in
that week would be insurmountable. According to a U.S. History.org article, the author reveals that

Compare And Contrast Andrew Carnegie And Richard Arkwright

  • 1. Compare And Contrast Andrew Carnegie And Richard Arkwright Andrew Carnegie was a famous steel company owner who lived from 1835 to 1919. He was born in Scotland but came to the United States with his family when he was 12. He had very similar achievements to Richard Arkwright, who owned cotton mills and cotton processing patents in England in the 1700s. Both Andrew Carnegie and Richard Arkwright are remembered as powerful industrialists who built great capitalist fortunes by starting and growing large dominant companies. Richard Arkwright and Andrew Carnegie both had similar career paths and significant impacts on the Industrial Revolutions of their time because of their innovative use of new technologies and their ability to lead others. • 2. The Capitalists Who Shaped Post-Civil War America Accurately established by many historians, the capitalists who shaped post–Civil War industrial America were regarded as corrupt "robber barons". In a society in which there was a severe imbalance in the dynamics of the economy, these selfish individuals viewed this as an opportunity to advance in their financial status. Thus, they acquired fortunes for themselves while purposely overseeing the struggles of the people around them. Presented in Document A, "as liveried carriage appear; so do barefooted children", proved to be a true description of life during the 19th century. In hopes of rebuilding America, the capitalists' hunger for wealth only widened the gap between the rich and poor. During the 1800's, business leaders who built ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the capitalists continued their corruption, "the wealthy class became wealthier; but the poorer class became more dependant. The gulf between the employed and the employer was growing wider" (Document A). Similarly, many actions performed by these capitalists, contributed to the sorrowful lives of many farmers, who were struggling to survive. Pursuing this further, the rich soil of the West was becoming poor, and floods contributed to the problem, and, eventually caused erosion. Beginning in the summer of 1887, a series of droughts forced many people to abandon their farms and towns. As circumstances worsened, farmers were beginning to be controlled by corporations and processors. The farmers were at the mercy of many trusts, which, in turn, could control the productivity and raise prices to high levels. Furthermore, during the late 19th century, many farmers considered monopolies, trusts, railroads, and money shortages as evident threats to their lifestyle. The rise of these monopolies and trusts worried many farmers because they felt that the disappearance of competition would lead to erratic and unreasonable price rises that would harm consumers. Oftentimes, these "robber barons" would prevent competitors from reaching the markets by restricting their ability to transport their goods. In Document E, James B. Weaver wrote of the main weapons of the trust–organized commerce: threats, intimidation, bribery, fraud, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Growth Of The Internet "Every now and then, a technology comes along that is so profound, so powerful, so universal that its impact will change everything. It will transform every institution in the world. It will create winners and losers, will change the way we do business, the way we teach our children, communicate and interact as individuals." (Gerstner L., 1996). The growth of the internet has changed the way that consumers buy and the way that brands and consumer will communicate with one another as a consequence of this. The growth of the internet has had a serious impact within the market industry and each business will need to take this into account. • 4. The Gilded Age : The Gilded Age The Gilded Age was a time where new prosperities and opportunities were forming after the end of the bloody American Civil War. The United States was able to rebuild itself after philanthropists started to help change the country into something superior and steered it away from the dreariness of the last few years. The ultra wealthy entrepreneurs of the time primarily were John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and J. Pierpont Morgan. These men were given the name "captain of industries" coined by Thomas Carlyle in his book, Past and Present, to describe compassionate and important men who made significant impacts on the nation and people of America. The wealthy industrialists of the late 19th century were "captain of industries" because they created new enterprises, they provided jobs for countless citizens, and donated to charitable causes. The industrialists of the late 19th century were "captains of industry" because they created new industries that further flourished the United States and its economy. Railroad tycoons such as "Cornelius Vanderbilt, James J. Hill, and Jay Gould" created the "transcontinental railroad [that] would allow for settlement of the west, new markets for eastern manufacturers, and relief to overcrowded eastern cities" ("Binding the Nation by Rail" 1). The railroad system connected those who are thousands of miles away and allowed goods to reach parts of the United States that it could not previously. As a result, the prices of goods dropped a ... • 5. Industrial Hemp: The Great Debate Industrial Hemp The Great Debate Introduction Many knowledgeable people who know and understand the potential of industrial hemp are convinced that it is one of the world's most perfect products. Its fiber makes rope and cloth which is very strong and resilient and when used to make paper products, the production is far tidier and much more efficient than using wood to make paper. Hemp is indeed considered one of the world's oldest agricultural products and hemp has a history in the United States that includes the fact that the Declaration of Independence and the original St. James Bible are actually printed on hemp paper. The list of practical uses is lengthy and impressive, but due to drug laws in the United States the growing of cannabis for industrial hemp uses is illegal; this has been a source of considerable controversy in the United States. The uses of industrial hemp and the debate as to whether industrial hemp farming should be allowed in the U.S. will be reviewed and critiqued in this paper. Thesis: This paper takes the position that industrial hemp should be legal in America, because it has been proven useful in myriad applications for many years, because it is not potent for smoking albeit it's from the same species, because it could create thousands of jobs, and because in the fight against global warming industrial hemp absorbs four times as much carbon dioxide and can produce as much as four times the fiber than trees can. Free enterprise is "an economic system in which private business operates in competition and largely free of state control." Resources are owned by the people, instead of the government, and the government only interferes to ensure overall peace and order. Captain of Industry: someone who uses intelligence and clever business tactics to achieve economic prosperity. Document A: In the first quote, Carnegie means that the men share their wealth with the community; they help the less fortunate prosper as well. Carnegie implies that the men make money for not only themselves but others. By "survival of the fittest," Carnegie means that the most capable people will succeed and prosper, while the others fail. • 10. Robber Barons Research Paper From accomplishments to all the profits, industrialists made many sacrifices to be who they are and being successful by becoming an robber baron. The term robber baron is an American capitalist at the turn of the 19th century who enriched himself upon the sweat of others or exploited natural resources Captain of industry led people to make and be able to accomplish without anyones help. Industrialists should be able to say what they are and what they accomplished but they use any advantages they have and using people even their own workers. The Industrialists are robber barons. Industrialists made their workers work for little pay, did not care about the people's health, and made an immoral government influence or plutocracy. In the gilded age, a few of the industrialists were robber barons who became successful by paying their workers low wages. An example of a robber baron is John D. • 11. What Is Andrew Carnegie's Reputation Among His Workers Dbq "A good reputation is more valuable than money."(Publilius Syrus) Andrew Carnegie did not seem very worried about his reputation among his workers! Andrew Carnegie's managers and Andrew Carnegie himself had horrible connections and relations with his workers. His workers' conditions were ineffective and unreasonable. Andrew Carnegie should be imprinted in human story as a robber baron due to the ghastly conditions his workers wrought under and the heinous worker–employer relations with his workers. Andrew Carnegie's horrific worker–employer relations often led to problems between the two. Andrew Carnegie felt no compassion for his workers in the factories. His assistant, under the approval of Andrew Carnegie, surrounded the workers with armed guards and tried to use the Pinkerton guards to forcefully work their way into the factory. • 12. The Collapse Of Andrew Carnegie The late 1800's and early 1900's a new era had commenced; the rise of unprecedented fortunes and unprecedented poverty, loosening social mores, unsanitary food production, the onrush of foreign immigration, environmental destruction–confronted Americans. The rise of fortunes came the rise of the keepers of fortunes, one of which was Andrew Carnegie. His business, which became known as the Carnegie Steel Company, revolutionized steel production in the United States. Carnegie built plants around the country, using technology and methods that made manufacturing steel easier, faster and more productive. For every step of the process, he owned exactly what he needed: the raw materials, ships and railroads for transporting the goods, and even coal fields to fuel the steel furnaces. There are two sides to every person, especially one with money, Captains of Industry and Robber Baron. A Captain of Industry, is a leader in their field. The money their companies generates does not go to them and only them, but they focus on helping the economy, less fortunate, and giving back to the community; creating wealth. The juxtaposition of a Captain of Industry is a Robber Baron. They focus their efforts on benefits for themselves, at the expense of workers, communities and economies. • 16. Pros And Cons Of The Gilded Age Looking at the Bigger Picture In the late 18th to the early 19th century, some people were desperate to make money fast. Populations were growing so rapidly, and people struggled to make enough living for their families. In conjunction, the United States tried to transition into a more modern and efficient world. This resulted in new ideas and inventions, in hopes to make living easier in a changing world. This period of time was known as the Gilded Age. Nineteenth century entrepreneurs are captains of industry based on their ability to boost the economy, the standard of living increased, and the lasting impression they made on America. Looking at entrepreneurs as robber barons is somewhat credible because of businessmen's tendency to claw their way to the top, despite hurting others along the way. However, on the opposite side of the spectrum, the jobs provided by these entrepreneurs ended up helping the American economy. Business owners were responsible for, "the American economy [to grow and grow]. By 1914, the small nation once seen as a playground for European empires had now surpassed them all" (The Gilded Age). These owners are captains of industry because of their ability to boost the economy and further progress America in the right direction. This shows how Carnegie gave back to his workers and community.Instead of trying to get money in the most abysmal way he was giving away millions of dollars to multiple funds! Andrew Carnegie rewarded his workers with the best. Carnegie believes it is the rich's job to help the less fortunate. Again in his book "Wealth", in the quote Carnegie says "Not evil, but good, has come to the race from the accumulation of wealth by those who have the ability and energy to produce it". Carnegie shows this by donating to the Homestead Relief Fund. Before all these industrialists can along, America was just another country that had little significance to the world. If it was not for them, we as a nation would not be where we are today. The industrialists prospered mainly due to their wit, and the many innovations that they brought to their various fields of business. What's wrong with striving for success? What's wrong with being efficient? What's wrong with making a product that no one can equal? What's wrong with besting your competitors? Nothing. • 23. The Gilded Age : Robber Barons And Captain Of Industry Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and J.P. Morgan all have something in common they're well known for being wealthy businessmen in the late 19th century. Robber Barons and Captain of Industry are mostly known from the Gilded Age. Mark Twain called the late 19th century the "Gilded Age" because he was referring to this period being glittering on the surface but corrupt underneath (Overview of the Gilded Age, Digital History). Most of the businessmen during this day in time just wanted to help themselves and their businesses, which you could compare to today. However, these historical figures established a foundation for industrial advances, business development and technological advances in America today. The term "Robber Baron" describes a business owner who obtained their wealth based on unfair practices (Overview of the Gilded Age, Digital History). During this time immigrants were coming overseas needing jobs to support their families. The business owners took notice of this and took it as an opportunity to make money by paying the immigrants low wages but working them excruciatingly long hours. By doing this, businesses began to increase their income because they weren't obligated to pay laborers. Thanks to the businessmen of the Gilded Age who treated their companies and laborers unfairly, there are now laws and regulations as to how many hours a person can work in a week. Utilizing and Exploiting Intellectual Property Laws In today's modern business environment, one in which competition is not limited by national borders and technology allows millions of people access to new products, the senior management structure of any successful corporation must be adept at utilizing and exploiting intellectual property laws. Conceiving and conceptualizing a new idea, and creating a viable item for public consumption from that inspiration, has always been the hallmark of energetic and efficient companies. With the advent of theinternet and the subsequent interconnectedness of globalization, however, it has become increasingly important that original ideas, goods, and services are protected through the exclusive rights granted by the trademark process. Citing the spread of internet technology and its marked effect on business practices, an article in The New Yorker recently observed that "fewer than ten thousand tech industry trademarks were registered in the United States as of 1980, but in 2011 more than 300,000 of these trademarks have been obtained" (Colapinto, 2011). Savvy corporate executives and upper managers know that effectively branding a particular product through unique logos, color schemes, labels, symbols, or any other distinctive iconography is perhaps the most significant step that upper management can take to protect their market share, and trademark registration provides the first level of protection against unlawful imitation by competing companies. The market space in the last decade has made a major improvement. In the first few years, we were seeing the growth of search engines and portals. This is when the Business to Consumer market began to increase. Over the last couple years, the Business to Business market has shown significant growth. To answer any predetermined questions, we will discuss important impacts of information asymmetry in business. Information Asymmetry can be described as one side of a transaction having more knowledge of the product than the other. This could go both ways. The consumer may know more or the seller may know more. For instance, in the 70's, the seller had a huge advantage over the consumer. Because of this, consumers were making purchase decisions that were very high in price. It was harder for the consumer to bargain prices back then because there was no way of knowing whether or not you were getting a good deal or being fed false information. Jumping back to today's world, if a consumer is not sure whether or not they are getting a good deal or not, they may look up prices for the same product sold by a different merchant. Asymmetric information has a huge impact on decisions people make about where to purchase a product. But, even though this sounds like it only hurts the merchant, there is an advantage for the merchant. In today's world we can obtain information from the customers. ... It has been ardently deliberated whether Andrew Carnegie was a robber baron who mistreated his workers and destroyed unions or that he was a captain of industry who paved the way for future steel companies. There are also many accomplished entrepreneurs in the world today that were much like Andrew Carnegie. Andrew Carnegie was known to be the most hypocritical of all robber barons.
