Implementation of MPPT system using Labview
for Solar Power Efficiency Improvement
RRASE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
2. Abstract
A maximum power point tracker (or MPPT) is a high efficiency
system that extracts the maximum power output from a solar
cell or array of photovoltaic (PV) cells.
PV cells have a single operating point where the values of the
current (I) and Voltage (V) of the cell result in a maximum
power output.
Maximum power point trackers utilize various type of control
circuit or logic to search for this point and thus to allow the
converter circuit to extract the maximum power available from
a cell.
In this project the Incremental Conductance algorithm will be
used for the MPPT.
3. EXISTING SYSTEM
There is no existing system for a MAXIMUM POWER POINT
TRACKING to extract the unique power from the solar panel at
this requirement.
4. Proposed system
In the proposed system ,the maximum power is
tracked from one or more photovoltaic devices so
that the power transfer is efficient.
It Shifts the array operating point away from the
peak power point until production exactly
matches demand.

7. Arduino IDE
Arduino IDE is used for programming the Arduino
board.
The programming language used is Embedded C.
Arduino IDE is a free software.
Testing and debugging of programs can be done
by using the Arduino IDE software.
8. EAGLE – PCB Design
EAGLE (easily applicable graphical layout editor) is
used for PCB design.
Maximum drawing area 1.6 x 1.6m (64 x 64 inch).
Resolution 1/10,000mm (0.1 micron).
Up to 16 signal layers.
Conventional and SMT parts.
Comes with a full set of part libraries.
Easily create your own parts with the fully
integrated library editor.
9. OrCAD – Schematic Design
OrCAD is an EDA (Electronic Design Automation)
software.
OrCAD Capture is used for drawing circuit
diagrams (Schematic Design).
It has in-built libraries for various components
used in the project.
OrCAD is an easy to use circuit designing
software.
10. LabVIEW
LabVIEW (Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering
Workbench) is a graphical programming environment
used to develop measurement, test, and control systems
using graphical icons and wires that resemble flowcharts.
Using LabVIEW real time signals from various sensors and
devices can be seen as continuous graphs and waveforms.
It is an easy to use software and does not require any
experience in conventional programming languages.
Instruments similar to real life instruments and even more
complicated interfaces can also be implemented easily.

Arduino
Photovoltaic Cell
Current and voltage measurement circuits
Variable load

12. Arduino Board
Arduino is a single-board microcontroller, intended to make
the application of interactive objects or environments more
accessible.
Pre-programmed into the on-board microcontroller chip is
a boot loader that allows uploading programs into the
microcontroller memory without needing a chip (device)
programmer.
13. Features of the Arduino
Board
It is an open source embedded system.
It has the Atmega168 microcontroller.
The operating voltage is as low as 5V.
Maximum clock frequency is 16MHz.
Embedded C is used for programming the
microcontroller with the help of the Arduino IDE
software.
It can communicate with computers, other
Arduino boards, or other microcontrollers.
It can be used for almost any real-time
application.
14. Solar Cell
A solar cell, or photovoltaic cell, is an electrical device that
converts the energy of light directly into electricity by the
photovoltaic effect.
It is a form of photoelectric cell, whose electrical
characteristics, such as current, voltage, or resistance, vary
when exposed to light.
Solar cells are combined to build solar panels.
