2. FUNCTIONS OF MIDDLE MANAGEMENT
•Dr. WHITE has well describe the main function of
middle management in the words, “the normal task of
middle management is to supervise, direct and control
the performance of business within the scope of law,
policy and regulation already established.
3. Functions of middle management
1.Program and operational planning:-
• Though middle management is not responsible for the
formulation of administrative policy – the task of top
management – yet it is directly concerned with the
programme and operational planning. In the process it
does modify the details to make the policy formulated
workable.
4. 2. Control and direction of operation:
• This is the most important function. Such a task involve
matters like production standards, provision of personnel
supply and equipment, the spelling out of particular
assignment, the definition of standard of performance, the
establishment of recording and reporting requirement,
maintenance of the morale with constant regard
improvement of operation and good working condition etc.
5. 3.Skilful supervision:
• Supervision runs through entire organisation. Each
superior supervisor supervises his immediate
subordinates. The middle managers have to be
skilful supervisor. The lower levels supervise the
rank and file, the higher supervise the lower and
assist them in their supervisory duties
6. 4. Eliciting Public co-operation:
• officers at this level come in the contact with the
field worker who deal with the public. Through this
band of field workers taxes are to be collected, law
and order is to be maintained, trade and business is
to be regulated and social and economic welfare
activities are to be tried out
