1. Sports For All (SFA), founded by Rishikesh Joshi, aims at creating a platform for
school students across Mumbai to participate and compete in multiple sports. There
were nine different Olympic sports such as Basketball, Handball, Volleyball games,
Swimming, Squash, Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis and Judo. All these sporting
events were conducted and operated by premier administrative bodies of those
respective sports.
Through this venture, SFA aims to bring together students, their parents, coaches,
sports academies, talent scouts, physiotherapists and other sporting personalities
under one roof where aspirant sportsmen competed in 9 different Olympic sports
which are Basketball, Handball, Volleyball game, Swimming, Squash, Badminton,
Tennis, Table Tennis and Judo.
Indian cricketer, ODI record holder and Captain of the Mumbai Indians franchise,
Rohit Sharma was the brand ambassador for the event. The 8 day SFA Mumbai
Sports and Education Week also hosted training and information sessions for the
students where they heard from experts and professional sportsmen on what it takes
to be a champion.
Volleyball game is a sport played all over India, both in rural as well as urban India. It

well in the youth and junior levels, India came in second in the 2003 World Youth
Championships. Currently, a major problem for the sport is the lack of sponsors. The
Indian senior men's team is currently ranked 39th

The history of volleyball, originally called “mintonette,” was invented in 1895 by
William G. Morgan after the invention of basketball only four years before. Morgan, a
graduate of the Springfield College of the YMCA, designed the game to be a
combination of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball. The first volleyball net,
borrowed from tennis, was only 6’6″ high. As of 2016, the sport is over 120 years old.
According to the history of volleyball, in 1895, William G. Morgan, an instructor at the
Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in Holyoke, Mass., decided to blend
elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to create a game for his
classes of businessmen which would demand less physical contact than basketball.
On July 7, 1896 at Springfield College the first game of "volleyball" was played.
In 1900 of the history of volleyball, a special ball was designed for the sport. In 1934,
national volleyball games referees were approved and recognized. In 1948, the first
two-man beach tournament was held. In 1996, two-person beach volleyball games
became an Olympic sport.
2. Volleyball at SFA was conducted under the aegis of Mumbai Suburban District
Volleyball Association. For the first time an inter-school volleyball tournament was
officiated and governed by an authorized body of the sport.
The volleyball game arena at the venue has one mud surface court, suited and
calibrated for world-class tournaments. Every match played by participants was
captured on video and later showcased on their schools SFA profile and individual
participant’s SFA profile.
