Introduction
Within a short 50 years, the World Wide Web, has shaped and influenced the world and will continue to mold
the way people connect, think, and live. In December 2018, the World Wide Web Foundation published the
statement : “reaching the 50/50 moment”
Each of the incremental improvements in the internet delivery platforms and a combined increase of
connectivity speed, has enabled rapid technological advancement in equipment and the way the globe adopts,
uses, interacts and depends upon this new technology. This dependence and reliance, influences and impacts
upon society, and shapes how we go about our daily living.
The result is a social revolution influencing how we communicate, how we transact business, perform
healthcare, improve education, and entertain ourselves and socialize.
Technological developments has changed the way Governments provide services, interacts with its citizens, and
even radically transforms the way in which a war will potentially be fought.
How our Society uses the digital age today will shape the way future generations will interact, understand, value
and leave the world for decades.
2
Access to the Internet
3
Influential numbers
 Current Global access to the Internet over 4.5 Billion
(54.4% of Worlds population)
 Dependency on access to information is becoming a
necessity from individuals to Governments
 As connectivity increases, we question the
fundamental impacts on how technology is
influencing work and society, and how government,
business and labor, education and learning, arts and
culture, science and technology communities have
changed and are considering the future technology-
information-work dynamics.
 Opportunities and Challenges require a global think
tank to understand how Society can adapt and adopt
to technology advancements. What are and How to
address the impact and influences of AI and society.

Connectivity influences
 Increasing speeds and bandwidths have an
exponential influential impact on business and
services. For example health communities.
Opportunities for remote clinical care and
interactions with doctors and specialists. Speeds
have allowed us to have on demand access to
entertainment, instant business transactions,
altered how we socialize, and connect to the Web
 Business and Entertainment. Increasing download
speeds will enable large files/videos and access to
information will be accessible within seconds.
Connectivity in real time. Internet experiences will
become exciting and more interactive
 Some of the Challenges to overcome: privacy,
security, two-way high bandwidth connections
requirements, corruption, degradation or power
outages. Quality of services. ISP congestions.
Social isolation
Connectivity Devices
 Global Web access through Mobile Phones, Laptop's, Desktops, Tablets, Gaming.
 Devices are lighter, smaller, smarter, and are an integral part of everyday life. Over 53% of society connect to the Web
through the mobile phone
 Voice Search and Voice Commands -approximately 4 in every 10 users connect to the web through voice control. This
mode of connection will be the new web evolution and will enable countries with lower levels of literacy to have access to
the Web benefits

 81.12% use Google to search for information, and more
than 8% phase their search as a question, “Who; What;
Why, Where; When, How. Also included is “Am” “Is”
 51 percent of all website traffic comes from organic
search, 10 percent from paid search, 5 percent for social,
and 34 percent from all other sources (Traffic from
search engine results that is earned, not paid)1
Searching for Information
7
 Video consumption. Society is becoming accustomed to
watching on-line entertainment. 80% of web audience
interacts with video content for entertainment,
information, knowledge acquisition and problem solving
 Facebook is predicating the end of the written word. In a
fast moving world “text is being replaced by moving
images and speech”
 90% of mobile users watch video from their phones.
Video’s are engaging and appealing. Videos which are
interesting and provide information create trust and has a
social currency element; audiences can receive
knowledge, share in this knowledge, and in so doing,
provide status and recognition to the sharing party.
People feel good about sharing.
 In an age of information overload, and attention spans
diminishing, videos offer quick, engaging content, and
can capture , engage and retain audience attentions.
Hilite (2019) Why Video Is Important For Your Business in 2019
Searching for Information
 Searching for information, through web
searching browsers and apps.
 Apps advantages offer tailored personalised
access to information and help on specific
products, services, or fun interactions through
social networks or entertainment. 86% of user
time is spent on apps. Opportunities to push
messages to a targeted interested audience.
 Apps can work off-line for basic information (i.e.
calculators; content information, or to be
uploaded when internet connectivity re-
established. Off-line content opens markets
into areas of poor connectivity or sporadic
internet services
 Apps can be used to increase conversions.

Searching for Information
E-commerce
 E-commerce - an estimated 2.8trillion USDollars in 2018,
and projected growth to 4.8trillion USDollars in 2021.
 On-line shopping and access to information and services
has benefited from the growing global audiences, with an
estimated 2billion buyers in 2021.
 Fashion e-commerce emerged victorious in 2018, with
61%, followed by travel, books and music, IT and mobile
and Event tickets.
 Business is challenged to constantly re-invent itself, and
trying to make its presence seen and heard in amongst
the web noise. On-line stores have to give the consumer
interactive immersion experiences, something in return
for purchases.
 On-line can upsell, add discounts for quantities, free ship,
reduce the complexity of purchasing, improve upon the
shopping experience,
9
10
E-commerce experiences
 ChatBots, AI, Robots are creeping into homes and
companies. Voice instructions, Customer Support
Live chat experiences. Technology is becoming
smarter and more responsive.
 Voice recognition such as Suri, Alexa, Google Now
are being installed in homes, and available on smart
phones, the ease of access to information, saves the
audience time and relegates the mundane tasks of
physical search efforts.
 Common requests are to locate and give directions,
find shops “near me”, play music, find answers to
queries.
 E-commerce will be relying on smart technology to
equal that of in-store shopping experiences.
 Challenges are privacy, dealing with un-expected
consequences, and behavior deviances.
