User research: summary
I carried out my primary user research using the zoom platform for my interviews. Each interview
was recorded.
I interviewed 5 participants / users in order to gain insight to the problems they have faced while
visiting an art gallery and how their experiences were, when they did.
My assumption earlier on was that everyone loves art. But upon sending out interview
confirmation messages to different people on my contact. And finally having interviews with the 5
people I interviewed, I realized that arts doesn’t speak the same language or experience to
everyone. And each user has its own specific needs.

Starting

based on the pain points gotten from
my user research. And for each app
page, I had multiplesketches drawnto
allow design iteration.

wireframes for a more
refined look.
This feature aids
the access of
each user to
current and most
viewed art
designs. And it
serves both art
lovers and those
who are new at
exploring art
designs.

suggestions

simplify the
user's search
for art galleries
close to the
user's location

The audio
feature allows
each user to
experience each
art design
personally.
He/She can walk
through the
gallery and listen
to the inspiration
for each design.
Hence
experiencing it
holistically both
in a physical art
gallery and while
at home.
The comment
feature allows
users give
their feedbacks
on each art
design viewed.
As the design process
continues, I ensured my

The primary user flow is this: The user searches for an
art gallery or an art design on the homepage. And
on navigating to the design page, he/she can either
read or listen to the design inspiration. The user can
also leave a comment after viewing design.
Usability study: findings
I conducted two rounds of usability test. The first round was carried out on my low fidelity prototype
and the findings were implemented increating my high fidelity screens/mock-ups.The second round
was carried out on the hi-fi prototype and shows areas that need to be refined and areas that makes it
accessible to users, from users perspective. View ResearchPlan.
Round 1 findings
Users want to be able to add their nickname to
their profile and use this instead of their full name

Users are concerned about the security of the
information they supply on their profile in real-
time use.

Round 2 findings
Users love the design, and believes the following
makes it accessible - the colour scheme, audio
option and voice search.

Users want the "find an artist" feature
represented with an icon on the homepage

"Popular Art Designs" similar to that of the
"Art Gallery Near You".

profile using username and passwords as a
new user.

the design

Earlier on, the digital lo-fi
wireframeof my app design
had a different scroll view
for the "Popular Art Designs
feature on the app. But
after carryingout my first
usabilitystudies, users
suggested a similar scroll as
that of the "Art Gallery Near
You" for consistency and
easy access.

The High-fidelity prototype shows the
navigation process of the user from the home
screen to the design screen where users can
access the design inspiration text which can
be via audio/ text, and the comment box.

Accessibility considerations
Colours used were tested
using the contrast
checker and material.io
colour tool.
Voice search option, and
the audio option for the
design inspiration
text were used in the
design to encourage ease
of use by all users
including those with
disability.

and labeled to ensure
users with screen readers
are able to use the app.

Impact:
One of the usability test participant stated that
the colourstyle used are calm to the eyes.
"The colours are cool and it brings the arts to life. I
like the colour that was used in the upper part,
calm...Cos if the colours are too bright for me, you
would have seen me dim the brightness of my
screen or go get my glasses, so I like that."
What I learned:
Usability test is key in any design
process. My designs are not complete
without testing it with real users and
iterating on the designs based on the
feedback gotten.
Next steps
Conduct further usability
tests to ensure designs
are up to date with users
needs.
Conduct security checks
before app is launched.
Ensuring users data
is secure.

Artist Bio App Case Study

  • 1. Designing an Artist Bio App for an Art Gallery Mercy Oluokun
  • 2. The product: Artist Bio App was designed for Art lovers who love to visits the Art Gallery and check out art designs online. Project overview Project duration: February 2022- May 2022
  • 3. The problem: Lack or minimal access of users who loves art and visits the Art gallery to Artist’s Information and design. Project overview The goal: Accessibility of users to Artist’s Information and designs.
  • 4. My role: Generalist UX designer – Involved in the design process from Conception to Delivery. Project overview Responsibilities: User research, Lo-fi and Hi-fi Wireframing and prototyping, User Testing/ Usability testing and documentation, Accessibility considerations, Iteration of Designs.

  • 6. User research: summary I carried out my primary user research using the zoom platform for my interviews. Each interview was recorded. I interviewed 5 participants / users in order to gain insight to the problems they have faced while visiting an art gallery and how their experiences were, when they did. My assumption earlier on was that everyone loves art. But upon sending out interview confirmation messages to different people on my contact. And finally having interviews with the 5 people I interviewed, I realized that arts doesn’t speak the same language or experience to everyone. And each user has its own specific needs.

  • 16. Paper wireframes Sketchingout my proposed designs on paper, helped me review my designs based on the pain points gotten from my user research. And for each app page, I had multiplesketches drawnto allow design iteration. Note: The sketch with the asterisk, is the best fit based on the pain points considerations.
  • 17. Digital wireframes As the design process continues, I ensured my paper sketches were translated intodigital wireframes for a more refined look. This feature aids the access of each user to current and most viewed art designs. And it serves both art lovers and those who are new at exploring art designs. Having access to location suggestions helps to simplify the user's search for art galleries close to the user's location
  • 18. Digital wireframes The audio feature allows each user to experience each art design personally. He/She can walk through the gallery and listen to the inspiration for each design. Hence experiencing it holistically both in a physical art gallery and while at home. The comment feature allows users give their feedbacks on each art design viewed. As the design process continues, I ensured my paper sketches were translated intodigital wireframes for a more refined look.

And on navigating to the design page, he/she can either read or listen to the design inspiration. The user can also leave a comment after viewing design.
  • 20. Usability study: findings I conducted two rounds of usability test. The first round was carried out on my low fidelity prototype and the findings were implemented increating my high fidelity screens/mock-ups.The second round was carried out on the hi-fi prototype and shows areas that need to be refined and areas that makes it accessible to users, from users perspective. Round 1 findings Users want to be able to add their nickname to their profile and use this instead of their full name 1 Users are concerned about the security of the information they supply on their profile in real- time use. 2 Round 2 findings Users love the design, and believes the following makes it accessible - the colour scheme, audio option and voice search. 3 Users want the "find an artist" feature represented with an icon on the homepage 1 Users want the scroll function of the "Popular Art Designs" similar to that of the "Art Gallery Near You". 2 Users wants to be able to create their user profile using username and passwords as a new user. 3

Mockups Earlier on, the digital lo-fi wireframeof my app design had a different scroll view for the "Popular Art Designs feature on the app. But after carryingout my first usabilitystudies, users suggested a similar scroll as that of the "Art Gallery Near You" for consistency and easy access. High-fidelity prototype The High-fidelity prototype shows the navigation process of the user from the home screen to the design screen where users can access the design inspiration text which can be via audio/ text, and the comment box.   • 28. Accessibility considerations Colours used were tested using the contrast checker and material.io colour tool. Voice search option, and the audio option for the design inspiration text were used in the design to encourage ease of use by all users including those with disability. Icons were used and labeled to ensure users with screen readers are able to use the app. 1 2 3

  • 30. Takeaways Impact: One of the usability test participant stated that the colourstyle used are calm to the eyes. "The colours are cool and it brings the arts to life. I like the colour that was used in the upper part, calm...Cos if the colours are too bright for me, you would have seen me dim the brightness of my screen or go get my glasses, so I like that." What I learned: Usability test is key in any design process. My designs are not complete without testing it with real users and iterating on the designs based on the feedback gotten.
  • 31. Next steps Conduct further usability tests to ensure designs are up to date with users needs. Conduct security checks before app is launched. Ensuring users data is secure. 1 2
