Contexual Format
Lesson Idea
This lesson will prepare students for the real-world of work. Give sample
cover letters and resumes students will practice writing and filling out
sample job applications.. From this students will complete a cover letter
using an outline provided.
Instructional Grouping
Guided practice will be in whole group. Subsequent instruction will
progress to small groups working off one resume. Final independent
practice will consist of completing a cover letter for a job or occupation.
 Relate – Students use prior knowledge learned in English to
complete a job application and compose a cover letter.
 Experiencing – Students will discover the importance of filling
out a job application with neat handwriting, correct spelling,
and important information.
 Applying – Students will review given resumes and cover
letters and fill in given job application forms. Students will
create a resume for a local business.
 Cooperating – Students will learn to work within a group
collaborating and identifying necessary and important
information to complete a long form job application.
 Transferring – After group work students will use skills and
knowledge attained to fill out a Taco Bell application and
compose a resume.
