Spectrum of Prevention was developed by the Prevention Institute in California.
propose that the multiple levels of intervention used together at the different levels produces greater results than a single intervention activity. It has been used as a model for Injury Prevention and Violence Prevention and other initiatives the Prevention Institute has led.
public health prevention orientation could encompass changes that would impact larger numbers of people and be more sustainable at that level. Most of my original training in school had been at the 3 lower levels of the Spectrum. As I talk about my current research projects in the area of farmworker sexual harassment, I will come back to examples of engaging at these higher levels of the Spectrum.
Background: Sexual harassment among Latina farmworkers is an endemic occupational health and safety inequity that remains hidden despite recent national #MeToo and #TimesUp social media campaigns. Recent #MeToo and #TimesUp movements have been successful in creating awareness of sexual harassment in the workplace. However, Latina farmworkers experience a disproportionate burden of sexual harassment and mass media pays minimal attention.
Farmworkers experience workplace sexual harassment (WSH) at levels far greater than workers in other sectors and industries. Exposure to WSH inflicts physical, mental and emotional damage that impacts Latina worker’s well-being throughout their lifecourse.
Presenters will use the Prevention Institute’s Spectrum of Prevention to describe findings from three Community-Based Participatory Research studies, several community awareness campaigns, multiple educational trainings, and recent public policy efforts that members of the Coalition have led to address Farmworker Sexual Harassment in Washington state.
Results: These activities have helped to build a movement to eliminate sexual harassment in Washington state.
Recommendations for eliminating Latina farmworker sexual harassment will be presented and participants will be introduced to actions they can take. Conclusion: The Coalition is among several growing efforts around the nation set to stem this growing tide. It has transformed participants and members alike to create hope for change.
The Washington Coalition to Eliminate Farmworker Sexual Harassment comprised by advocates, farmworkers, students and local politicians, recently formed to take action on this injustice.
Learning Outcomes:
...Describe what is known about sexual harassment of Latina farmworkers
…Identify how the Coalition is building a movement to address health actions at all six levels of the Spectrum of Prevention, and
...Assess what they as public health workers can do about this endemic problem.

A central theme that would be powerful to explore is solidarity, allyship.
How are you using your research skills and resources to work WITH farm workers?
Also what are your methods to organize these women? How do you get their voices heard by policy makers?
