2. Netra chikitsa kalpanas
• All the pharmaceutical procedures and the
formulations related to ophthalmic diseases
come under the Netra chikitsa kalpanas or
Kriya kalpas.
3. Kriya Kalpas.
• The topical or external medication systems
used to cure ophthalmic diseases are called as
Kriya Kalpas.
• These are the procedures to be done over
eyes by the use of certain kalpas or medicines.
4. The types of Netrakalpas given by
Acharyas are as follows:-
• Sushrutacharya has given 5 types of Kriya
Kalpas:
1. Tarpana (Akshitarpana)
2. Putapaka
3. Seka
4. Aschotana
5. Anjana
5. • Acharya Vagbhata and Sharangadhara added 2
more procedures to above mentioned
procedures as follows:
1. Pindi
2. Bidalaka
6. TARPANA (AKSHITARPANA)
• This method is used to tone up the eyes. In
this method a well is prepared around eyes of
the patient or the affected eye of the patient
by the use of paste of Masha flour.
• The medicated Ghee or Oil is poured in the
well for certain period and then the
medicated ghee or oil is taken out.
7. PUTAPAKA
• In this type of Kriya Kalpa the methodology of
application or use of drugs is the same as
given in Tarpana vidhi, the difference is the
medicines.
• The medicines in this Putapaka Kriya Kalpa
have different pharmaceutical method of
preparation.
8. SEKA
• In this type of Netrakalpa the medicines in
the form of liquid is poured in thin streams
slowly and steadily over the closed eyes from
the height of 4 angulis.
9. ASCHOTANA
• Vagbhatacharya indicated Aschotana as first
line of treatment in all ocular diseases. This
can be correlated with modern ophthalmic
drops.
• Few drops of ophthalmic medicines is
being instilled in to the opened eyes from a
height of 2 angulis.
10. ANJANA
• In this type of kriyakala the ophthalmic
medicines are applied in to the eyes below
krishnabhaga up to outer corner with the help
of finger or shalaka i.e. rod.
