4. HISTORY
Introduced by Professor Herald Hass, at the
university of Edinburgh.
Established in 2011 TED global talk.
The promotion of idea through TED helped to start
a company, Pure LiFi.
5. PRESRNT SCENARIO
Radio Spectrum is congested but the
demand for wireless data doubles each
year.
Speed of data transmission can be
increased.
1.4 MILLION BASE STATIONS
6. ISSUE OF RADIO SPECTRUM
• Available within
the range of Base
stations
• Less
secure(passes
through the
walls)
• Millions of base
stations consume
huge amount of
energy for
• Transmitting the
radio wave.
• Cost and
Expensive
• Less Bandwidth
compared to
other spectrums

AVAILABILTYSECURITY
9. WHAT IS VLC ?
VLC = Illumination + Communication
Visible light
communication (VLC)
is a data
communications
variant.
It uses visible light
between 400 and 800
THz (780–375 nm).
10. LED DRIVER CIRCUIT:-
This led driver is base for generating required fluctuations in the
led’s.
This is the major part of the lifi technology which varies the
normal led’s with that of a lifi led’s.
11. WORKING PROCESS OF LIFI:-
Operational procedure is very simple, if the led is on, you transmit
a digital 1, if its off you transmit a 0. The LEDs can be switched on
and off very quickly, which gives nice opportunities for
transmitting data. Hence all that required is some LEDs and a
controller that code data into those LEDs. We have to just vary the
rate at which the LED’s on and off.
12. LIFI VS WIFI:-
S.No. PARAMETERS LIGHT
FIDELITY
WIRELESS FIDELITY
1. Speed for data transfer Faster transfer
speed(>1Gbps)
Data transfer
speed(150Mbps)
2. Medium through which
data transfer occurs
Uses light as carrier Uses radio spectrum
3. Spectrum Range Visible light spectrum
has 10,000 times more
broad spectrum in
comparison to radio
spectrum
Radio frequency
spectrum range is far
less than the visible
light spectrum
4. Cost Cheaper than Wifi
because it is a free band
and don’t need any
license as it uses light
Expensive in
comparison to Lifi
because it uses radio
spectrum
5. Security High secure Less secure
6. Operating frequency Hundreds of Tera Hz 2.4 GHz
14. LIMITATION & CHALLENGES
Light cannot penetrate through solid objects .
Light communication is not possible in darkness.
Interferences from external light sources like sun light,
normal bulbs, and opaque materials in the path of
transmission will cause interruption in the communication.
16. CONCLUSION
The possibilities are numerous and can
be explored further. If this technology
can be put into practical use , every
bulb can be used something like a Wi-Fi
hotspots to transmit wireless data.
