Why Does the Government Involved Itself
Extensively in Education?
Because it improves students’ welfare by
enhancing their ability to earn a living and
more generally, to deal with life.

socialization.

perspective on which to base their political
choices.
4. Public School
o a school that is maintained at public
expense for the education of the children
of a community or district and that
constitutes a part of a system of free
public education commonly including
primary and secondary.

Charter Schools
public schools that operate under
government charters that hold them to
state standards but have freedom to
experiment and some interdependence in
making their spending and hiring
decisions.

The basic approach of this system is to
provide financial support to students rather
than directly to schools.

• The Federal Government provides $71.2
billion in discretionary funding for the
Department of Education.

o The fund includes P 44.6 billion for construction, repair,
and rehabilitation of school buildings nationwide.
The DepEd this year plans to:
* build 43,183 new classrooms
* repair 9,502 existing ones
* create 1.59 million new classroom seats (in support
of the K-to-12 program)
* build 10 library centers (213 existing library centers
* produce 42 million more textbooks and workbooks
