Holika Dahan festival is celebrated on the day before Holi in almost every part of India. The festival denotes the victory of good over evil. According to Purana, this was the day demoness Holika burnt to death when she tried to kill her nephew Prahlad. On this day, married women in India offer a prayer for the well-being and prosperous future of their kids.

2. Married women take a bath in
the afternoon before puja and
prepare the puja thali.
The thali contains Roli,
Turmeric, Wheat flour, 5 cow-
dung cake, mauli (red thread),
water and 5 or 7 jau bali.

3. During the puja, women
make the round of the
Holika-heap and offer
red thread 5 to 7 times
while rounding the heap.

4. They offer water to Holika
while making round.
