2. With the help of an smart phone app, the Vessyl also aggregates data
about your beverage-ingesting habits or how many calories you’re
drinking, or if you need more protein.
The Vessyl is the world’s first smart cup, a
product that can tell you exactly what you
All you have to do is pour a drink in and the Vessyl automatically
analyzes its nutritional content and more detailed information through
the app.
Introduction:
are drinking and what its nutrient content is. It collaborates with a
smart phone app.
3. Basic Idea:
Molecular spectroscopy --
In a spectroscopy experiment, electromagnetic radiation of a
specified range of wavelengths is allowed to pass through a sample
containing a compound of interest.
The sample molecules absorb energy from some of the
wavelengths, and as a result jump from a low energy ‘ground state’
to some higher energy ‘excited state’.
Other wavelengths are not absorbed by the sample molecule, so
they pass on through.
A detector on the other side of the sample records scans which
wavelengths were absorbed, and to what extent they were
absorbed.
4. Basic Idea contd.…
Here is the key to molecular spectroscopy: a given compound will
specifically absorb only those wavelengths which have energies that
correspond to the energy difference of the transition that is
occurring.
If the transition involves the molecule jumping from ground state A
to excited state B, with an energy difference of ΔE, the molecule will
specifically absorb radiation with wavelength that corresponds
to ΔE.
Hence based on the energy being absorbed by sample molecules
and the wavelengths the detector received we can identify the
structure of the molecule or molecules involved in the sample.
5. Basic Idea contd.…
The spectrometer figures out what the compound is based on
wavelengths that are absorbed and that reflects back to the scanner.
Each compound has its own optical signature.
6. How Vessyl works:
This has sensors to the entire interior
of the cup.
All you have to do is pour a drink in the Vessyl.
Vessyl considers samples of solution to test, with the help of
sensors.
These sensors follows the molecular spectroscopy and identifies
all the wavelengths that are absorbed and wavelengths passed on
to the detector.
As we said earlier this Vessyl cup works with a smart phone app.
Hence Vessyl transfers the data collected by the detector and
along with this the volume of solution in Vessyl to the smart
phone via Bluetooth.
7. Smart phone app develops the spectra based on the wavelengths
information that it received.
Smart phone app comes with a database which loaded with over
5000 such spectra information and their compound names and
nutrition, calories info.
If any new compound identified of the data received from Vessyl
cup i.e., no data available for this spectra in the database, then
the app transfers the data to its server.
Then team working for the Vessyl cup identifies the solution
based on the spectra and updates it to the app. And they also
have an idea of following crowd sourcing to identify the unknown
solutions.
Along with this job, smart phone app also keep tracks of the
Calories and Nutrition info that you are consumed through Vessyl
cup.
