2. 1. In what ways does your media product, use
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
Genre of film is psychotic horror, which shows the codes and
conventions you would expect in these types of films. For example
the violence that is presented in artwork of the dagger in the heart,
and also the sinister nature of the non diegetic soundtrack is a
typical convention for films of this type of genre.
A film that uses a sinister soundtrack is the very famous soundtrack
of Jaws which creates tension and signifies something awful is
going to happen.
Also the 1957 horror “From Hell It Came” presents the main enemy
a monster getting a dagger driven into its heart.
However our film challenges the convention that characters who
are portrayed as being psychotic are generally poor/mad and
ragged. For example the horror Shaun of the dead where the main
protagonists are zombies who are opposite to that of the
protagonist in our film. Similarly though to our film the main
character “Hannibal” (as pictured) in the film “Silence Of The
Lambs” is sophisticated middle class and well spoken which
contradicts the general convention that is formed by the protagonist
in an example text. Our film used or borrowed this motif for our
own film to portray the similar codes and conventions that are
formed.
3. 6. What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this product?
During the process of constructing this film I have
learnt about many knew technologies that can be
used.
Firstly I used the website Blogger for all my
research and planning on the film. This piece of
technology helped aide me type up all my
coursework onto a blog.
We also used the Apple Mac in school which was
helpful editing and watching our final piece. Using
an up to date piece of technology like this was a
great learning process and gave us the best
chance to make our film the best possible.
Another piece of technology we used was survey
monkey. This was used at the start of our project to
gain feedback from our peers on our film. However
the piece of technology was unreliable and we were
not able to record the answers. For this reason we
learnt that Survey Monkey wasn't a very good tool
to use.
4. In the actual filming process we used a
camera which wasn't HD. However the camera
we used turned out to be very clean and clear
shots which added to the effect of our film
produced. Also the technology of a tripod was
used as we very quickly realised that this piece
of kit would help keep the camera steady and
calm without being all wobbly. The tripod was
used extremely well in our piece because it did
its job in maintaining the steadiness of the
camera but it also allowed us to be on the
same level that our actor was at.
Lastly the technology of Youtube was crucial
towards our drafts and final pieces. This is
because we learnt that with Youtube we were
able to upload a films and this meant we could
not only analyse our drafts we made but also
were able to sent off our final pieces.
