2. The 24+ Advanced Learning Loans for Adults taking a level 3 or Level 4 course
Most learners aged 24 and over, studying at level 3 or Level 4, will qualify for these
loans. It’s fairly easy to apply, your household income isn’t taken into account and
there is no credit check. You won’t have to pay anything back until your income is
over £21,000 a year.
These loans will help you pay your college or training organisation for your course
fees.
3. You can apply for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to
help with the costs of a college or training course if
you’re 24 or older.
The course must be at Level 3 or 4
Loans have to be paid back. Repayments however
you won’t have to pay anything back until you earn
more than £21,000 a year.
The loan does NOT depend on your income and there
are no credit checks. You can also get independent
money advice from the Money Advice Service.
4. How do you apply for an advanced learning loan?
Applying is easy, you can apply for a loan for courses
that you are seeking to do know or sometime in the
future
Your training provider will speak with you regarding
your courses and if suitable then they will provide you
You will be given a ‘Funding and Information Letter’
from the training provide once a course offer has
been made to you, this letter will contain all the
information needed to apply for the loan

using the online application
form https://www.gov.uk/advanced-learning-
loans/how-to-claim or you can download the forms
and apply by post.
5. The loan you get depends on the:
type of course (each course has a
government recommended rate which is the
maximum loan available for your course)
Your course cost based on the providers rate
The minimum loan you can apply for is £300.
You don’t have to borrow the full cost of your
course - you can pay for some of it yourself.
The money is paid directly to your training
provider
6. Further information on Eligibility:
You know now that you must be 24 or older on the first
day of your course however the following are also
rqeuirements:
You must:
- be living in the UK on the first day of your course
- have been living in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of
Man for 3 years before starting your course
- be a UK national or have ‘settled status’ (this means
there’s no restrictions on how long you can stay)
You may also qualify if you’re:
- an EU national or a family member of one, a refugee,
a migrant worker,
7. What happens if you withdraw from your course?
If you withdraw from your course within 2 weeks
of the course start date, the loan will not come
into effect and you will not have to repay anything
back. If you leave the course after more than two
weeks then you’ll be liable to repay the loan
payments that have been made to the college on
your behalf, for the time you have been on the
course.
Please note you may also be required to pay the
remainder of your course fees to your training
provider.

How do you pay the loan back?
You start making repayments if your income is more
than £21,000 per year.
