7. Extraction procedure
1. After application of Local anaesthetic an incision is made to expose the impacted
tooth, 2. Impacted tooth is extracted using forceps & elevators, 3. The incision is closed
with sutures.
8. After Extraction you may experience:
Pain
Swelling
Bleeding
Trismus
Inflammation
Numbness
9. Post Extraction Instructions
Patient should be advised to firmly bite on the
gauze piece placed on the extraction socket for a
minimum of half an hour after extraction.
Patient should be advised not to rinse his mouth
vigorously for the next 24 hours.
Not to suck from a straw on the day of extraction.
Warm saline rinses & gentle brushing should be
advised from the next day.
Do not spit minimum for 24 hours after extraction
because it can dislodge the clot which can lead to a
painful condition known as dry socket.
10. Apply ice pack on the side where surgery was
performed to reduce swelling.
Advised to take soft diet & cold liquid on
the day of extraction.
Take your medications as prescribed
by your dentist.
Do not smoke for 48 hours after extraction as
the chemicals in the smoke can affect the clot &
hence chances of dry socket increases 3-4 days
after tooth extraction.
