2. Many people do not see their dentist regularly unless
they have any dental problem. Dental visits are
important to keep your teeth & gums healthy in order to
prevent dental problems in future. People have
misconception of wasting money over a regular dental
check up but they are not actually aware that they are
preventing dental problem before they reach advanced
stages. Usually most of the dental conditions do not
show any symptoms unless they attain the advanced
stages of the disease.

Q.1 Why should one see the dentist regularly?
3. Yes flossing is as important as brushing teeth. Brushing
helps in cleaning & removing the plaque & debris present
at the surface of teeth, whereas flossing helps to remove
the film of bacteria & food from between the spaces of
your teeth. Flossing helps you to preserve & keep your
gums healthy by cleaning them regularly. One should
floss once a day in order to get rid of plaque present
between the two surfaces of teeth.
DR SACHDEVA’s DENTAL INSTITUTE
Q.2 Is flossing teeth mandatory even if I follow brushing
regularly?
4. Kids follow what they usually see, try brushing your
teeth in front of them so that they become keen to
follow the same activity. Once they see you following
the good dental habits, ultimately they will try to
implement the same into their regular activities.
Besides all this you can show them videos of kids
brushing their teeth, also consult your dentist as
soon as child’s first tooth erupts into the oral cavity.
Q.3 How can I convince my kids to brush their teeth regularly?
DR. SACHDEVA’s DENTAL INSTITUTE
5. Q.4 How can I prevent cavities?
Certainly cavities can be minimized by regular brushing & flossing your teeth. Be certain that you
brush or rinse your mouth after every meal. Try to minimize the amount of sugar along with your
meal. Even if you are sweet aholic just make sure you rinse your mouth & do not forget to visit your
dentist.

6. X-rays helps your dentist to visualize the bone along with the teeth.
An x-ray examination reveals:
Location & extent of cavities
Presence of abscesses or cysts
Periodontal i.e. gums problem
Bone infections
Presence of tumours
Dental radiographs are helpful in detecting the conditions which remain
unseen during clinical examination. Early detection of any condition
ceases the progression towards advanced stages. Your dentist gets to
evaluate your complication accurately through the dental radiographs.
Q.5 How x-rays are helpful?

7. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral available in water &
various foods, helps to prevent caries in children & adult. When
the outer surface of teeth is treated with fluoride it makes the
tooth resistant to acid attacks from bacteria that leads to decay.
Fluoride is available in many forms beside foods such as
fluoridated toothpastes, mouth rinses, supplements are also
available. In the dental clinic fluoride is also available in the form
of gels, foams & varnish.
Q.6 What is fluoride & why it is important to dental health?

8. Q.7 What are cavity fighting sealants?
A dental sealant is a thin coating that is either white or clear applied to premolars & molars over
the deep grooves in the chewing surface of the teeth. Generally sealants are recommended to be
applied from ages 4-13 yrs. Sealants are recommended to a tooth’s surface as soon as it comes in &
since the kids brushing skills are not as strong as adults.

9. Q.8 I knocked out a tooth, can it be saved?
When a tooth is dislodged patient should contact the dentist within 30 minutes of accident
for successful re-implantation & the tooth must be preserved in milk & should not be
cleaned or brushed. The dentist examines the gums & emergent tooth & then plan
accordingly. If the conditions are normal the tooth is placed back into the socket & splinted.

10. Q.9 What causes morning breath?
Saliva protects us from bad breath via high concentrations of oxygen, which kills anaerobic, bad
breath bacteria. When the person is awake saliva flushes out the bad breath causing bacteria.
During sleep there is reduction in the flow of saliva which causes dryness of tongue, palate, &
taste buds this causes bacteria to breakdown food particles & leads to increase in sulphur
producing bacteria & causes bad breath.
