This document discusses the challenges and opportunities of new IT generations from a case study of a public hospital in Portugal. It describes the hospital's strategy to adopt an IT strategy focused on business processes rather than technologies. This included virtualizing servers to reduce energy consumption and costs. It also involved transitioning from desktop PCs to thin clients and Sunray terminals which led to an 85% reduction in energy usage. The hospital implemented a "cloud" to support delivery of board meeting, supply requisition, e-learning, complaint management and other processes. It also deployed an electronic patient record system across emergency services, inpatient/outpatient care, operating rooms and intensive care units. The presentation concludes by thanking the audience.
