Legalizing Abortion
Abortion is one of the most controversial issues that lack grounds of agreement among the two opposing sides. Abortion is a medical process through which a pregnancy is ended so that it does not end up in the birth of a baby. It is also referred to as the termination of a pregnancy (Berlatsky, 2011). The debate on abortion has been going on for a very long time. The controversy around abortion is that there are those who are pro-life and those pro-choice. The paper is an argument for abortion.
The first argument for abortion is that if it is made illegal, then there will be a danger of unprofessional abortions that will put women at risk. Due to the illegal nature of abortions in many countries, there are many women who die in the process of carrying out illegal abortions. People end up performing illegal abortions and putting their lives in danger. If only abortions were made legal, then the number of deaths due to illegal abortions will be reduced. The access to abortions that are legal and performed professionally will reduce the number of maternal injuries and deaths that are caused by illegal and unsafe abortions (Torr, 2006).
The second argument in support of abortion it involves considering the rights of a woman. Abortion presents an option to women who would have otherwise been brought down by being pregnant. Take a look at this scenario, a woman is caught up pursuing her dreams. Suddenly, she discovers that she is pregnant. The society presents her with two options: the first is getting an abortion and continue with her life and the pursuit of her dreams. The second option would be to go ahead and have the child, forget about her dreams and lead a miserable lifestyle. In such a situation, abortion seems to be the best way out for the woman. She makes the decision of having the abortion and continues with her normal life. It is such a situation that leads to numerous abortions all over the world (Berlatsky, 2011). The issue here is that a woman should be given the opportunity of choosing what she wants and not forced to choose one way or the other. The society should give women an opportunity of having children and go on with the lifestyle they want. The society is to blame since it pushes women to make changes to themselves so that they can conform to what it expects of them. The society is stereotypical when it comes to women, and it prefers women who are not pregnant. A good example is the workplace scenario where women with children or those who are pregnant are treated as second-class employees. Today, many women desire to have challenging careers. This leaves them with no option but to procure abortions when they get pregnant without planning. Women who are denied abortion stand a chance of becoming unemployed since the job market does not prefer pregnant women (Podell, 2000).
The third argument for abortion is that it could be t.

Legalizing Abortion
Abortion is one of the most controversial issues that lack
grounds of agreement among the two opposing sides. Abortion
is a medical process through which a pregnancy is ended so that

the termination of a pregnancy (Berlatsky, 2011). The debate on
abortion has been going on for a very long time. The
controversy around abortion is that there are those who are pro-
life and those pro-choice. The paper is an argument for
abortion.
The first argument for abortion is that if it is made illegal,
then there will be a danger of unprofessional abortions that will
put women at risk. Due to the illegal nature of abortions in
many countries, there are many women who die in the process
of carrying out illegal abortions. People end up performing

illegal abortions will be reduced. The access to abortions that
are legal and performed professionally will reduce the number
of maternal injuries and deaths that are caused by illegal and
unsafe abortions (Torr, 2006).
The second argument in support of abortion it involves
considering the rights of a woman. Abortion presents an option
to women who would have otherwise been brought down by
being pregnant. Take a look at this scenario, a woman is caught
2. up pursuing her dreams. Suddenly, she discovers that she is
pregnant. The society presents her with two options: the first is
getting an abortion and continue with her life and the pursuit of
her dreams. The second option would be to go ahead and have
the child, forget about her dreams and lead a miserable lifestyle.
In such a situation, abortion seems to be the best way out for
the woman. She makes the decision of having the abortion and
continues with her normal life. It is such a situation that leads
to numerous abortions all over the world (Berlatsky, 2011). The
issue here is that a woman should be given the opportunity of
choosing what she wants and not forced to choose one way or
the other. The society should give women an opportunity of
having children and go on with the lifestyle they want. The
society is to blame since it pushes women to make changes to
themselves so that they can conform to what it expects of them.
The society is stereotypical when it comes to women, and it
prefers women who are not pregnant. A good example is the
workplace scenario where women with children or those who
are pregnant are treated as second-class employees. Today,
many women desire to have challenging careers. This leaves
them with no option but to procure abortions when they get
pregnant without planning. Women who are denied abortion
stand a chance of becoming unemployed since the job market
does not prefer pregnant women (Podell, 2000).
The third argument for abortion is that it could be the best
option instead of bringing into the world a child with
deformities. Abortion provides women with the opportunity of
choosing not to go to full term with fetuses that have
abnormalities. There are some fetuses that have a severe
disorder whereby they are guaranteed to die before they are
born or shortly after they are born. There are cases where the
best interest of the child should be considered. A mother would
not want to bring into the world a child who would be treated
differently because they have a deformity. Such treatment
would negatively impact a child hence it would be best if they
do not make it to the world after all. The other argument t for
3. abortion is that a child should not come into the world if they
are not wanted. Having a child is a very important decision that
needs a lot of planning and preparedness. If women are forced
to bring unwanted children to the world by being denied
abortion, the children end up suffering (Berlatsky, 2011).
Having looked at the arguments for abortion, we should
also look at the arguments against abortion. One of the
arguments against abortion is that it is immoral. Terminating
the life of an innocent child is termed as being immoral
regardless of whether it is a fully formed or an unborn baby that
cannot defend itself. People who are against abortion argue that
the unborn baby is innocent and deserves a chance to life just
like any other. In this case, the circumstances surrounding the
issue of pregnancy are usually not considered to be significant
when determining whether or not to keep a baby.
The other argument against abortion is that life begins at
conception and hence unborn babies are human beings that have
a right to life. After fertilization, a human being is created and
hence has a right to life. The fundamental right to life of
everyone has to be protected including that of the unborn
children. This means that abortion violates the right to life of
the unborn child hence it should not be supported (Podell,
2000). Therefore, women who abort fetuses are usually
considered to have violated the rights of the unborn baby and in
some countries or states, this action is often categorized as a
serious offence.
Having looked at the arguments for and against abortion,
the conclusion is that abortion should be allowed and made
legal. The arguments for abortion clearly indicate that it is the
best option for the society. The benefits of abortion in the
society outweigh the negative effects. I believe that every
woman should be given the opportunity of deciding whether to
keep a pregnancy or not. When women have the right to
determine whether to keep a pregnancy, they are able to take
care of the children when they are born. Abortion is better of
made legal as it will be of greater benefit to the society if it is
4. legalized.
