3. Thermal Spraying
Thermal Spraying is a process in which metallic & non metallic
materials are deposited in a molten or semi – molten form
on a prepared substrate, imparting properties that
the substrate would not otherwise possess.
Since many metals, alloys, ceramics, plastics,
cermets & combinations can be applied through this
process, it’s potential in cutting edge applications is yet to be
fully developed.
Using a thermal spray gun, the feedstock
material (in powder, rod or wire form) is melted by an electric
arc or combustible gas and accelerated on to a substrate.
As the particle strike the surface, they atten,
adhere and conrm to the irregularities of the surface.
Upon impact with the substrate, these atten
particles cool and build up to form a coating.

5. In the process, inert gas is passed through an electric
arc formed between the cylindrical
copper anode & the centrally aligned tungsten-tipped cathode.
As the gas passes through the arc it disassociates
the molecules and ionizes the atoms,
thereby forming a plasma jet.
The Plasma system allow’s the use of materials with extremely high
melting points, making them ideal for the application
of MCrAIY’s and ceramics such as chromium,
zirconium & aluminum oxides.

8. JP -5000 Pressure/High Velocity Oxy Fuel (HP/HVOF)
system for coating of incomparable quality
Nothing is more important in an HP/HVOF
system than the quality of the coating it produces.
HP/HVOF boasts the highest combustion
pressure & high spray rate which has the
advantages of reducing porosity & creating
an extremely high coating density with a low oxide content.
HP/HVOF sprays coatings up to 3mm
thick while maintaining high bond strengths and coating densities.
This a result of the coatings being in compression,
whilst other HVOF systems produce coating s in tension.
KEY FACTOR: THE POWDER WHICH EXITS THE GUN
The radial powder injection design of
the JP-5000 heats the powder uniformly.
This improves the bond strength and overall bonding quality.

Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) System
with Stellite & Tungsten Carbide
The PTA System’s ability to apply tough wear areas is unsurpassed.
Parts like valves, engine valve seats, feed screws,
ow control valves, glass moulds & plastic moulds
will benet considerably from this treatment.
The economical benets of applying a high performance
wear surface to a less expensive base metal are immediately evident.
The PTA process metallurgically bonds metallic surface powder
to any base metal with as little as 5% dilution per pass,
thereby permitting thin, less expensive overlays with
superior overlay chemistry.
The PTA system is able to meet the challenges of
the toughest wearing projects,
providing a coat which is perfectly matched to the application.

14. In the twin wire arc system, two wires (with opposite polarity)
are charged and fed electrically into the
gun until contact is made at the nozzle. Between
18-40 volts are applied across the wires to
initiate melting of the tips.
At this point, an atomizing gas propels the
molten particles onto the substrate.
Common applications of twin wire arc coatings
involve the coating of aluminum or zinc for corrosion resistance.

16. Since 1992, Romotas has successfully
manufactured & repaired wood chipper segments,
knife clamps, bedlocks & wear plates for
the paper & pulp industry.
The various components are manufactured from high
quality steel, not castings and machined.
This is done by using CNC which incorporates
a CAD system to achieve optimum accuracy.
The hardfacing is applied by using the Plasma
Transferred Arc (PTA), which produces a dense,
porosity – free, homogenous coating.
This method ensures that there will
be no peeling, it will also have
a longer wear resistant life, along
with higher quality chip results.

– resistant coatings, such as molybdenum, stainless steel,
tungsten and chrome carbides to wire drawing blocks,
cones, capstan tyres and pulleys for the
