Simultaneous interpretation
Simultaneous interpretation services are usually used for large conferences and
meetings. The interpreters are skilled experts, and able to speak and listen at the
same time. They deliver the message in the target language as quickly as they can
formulate it from the source language while the source-language speaker
continues to speak.
This form of interpretation requires specialised equipment to transmit the
interpreted speech to a large number of participants. The interpreter sits in a
soundproof booth with technical equipment and speaks into a microphone. The
interpreter should be able to see the speaker and listens to the speaker via
earphones. Simultaneous interpretation is usually carried out by two interpreters
per language combination as it is rather exhausting for the interpreter and
requires a lot of concentration.

Whispered interpretation
This form of interpretation is used when the meeting takes place in one language,
but one or two participants speak a different language. The interpreter will be
behind or next to the person requiring interpretation and whispers the
interpretation to him/her during the meeting. It is only for a small group of people
(max. 2 or 3 people). It is a less formal type of interpretation and does not require
any special equipment.
Consecutive and liaison interpretation
Consecutive interpretation is the oldest form of interpretation and is often used in
court hearings, tribunals, small business meetings, site visits and social
engagements. Consecutive interpretation is usually bi-directional. Unlike
simultaneous interpretation, the interpreter waits for the speaker to pause before
interpreting. The interpreter either interprets after every sentence or takes notes
during the speech and then interprets.
