Eric Harris Influence On Kids
Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were the ideal teenage kids, they played sports as kids, but grew out of them. They became more fascinated with
computers, and both had high grades. They got in to a little bit of trouble here and there, just like every other teenager. From fist glance you would
never know the depth of anger, depression and deception both had hidden inside that would soon explode. There emotions very diffrent but fit
together; Dylan was angry highly depressed and Eric an angry psychopath, with want to be remembered. The anger broght them close, and also
lead them to a killing rampage at their school. Dylan was known as the shy and nice kid, with a temper that he occasionaly could not hold back.
His parents described him as, "extraordinary shy, but happy," (Cullen 209). just a normal teenage boy, although he never had a girlfriend. He did
like a girl at his school, but he was too shy and self concious to ever talk to her. He did write alot about her in his jornal, witch was depressing at first,

He got all the ladies he wanted with his charm, he wasnt shy like Dylan. But Eric was two faced, when he got in any kind of trouble he would say,
"exactly what a parent wanted to hear" (Cullen 218). And he blamed most things that happend on Dylan, "Eric blamed Dylan... He said Dyan kept
pestering him and eventually wore him down," (Cullen 202). Eric had alot of anger built up inside, he hated people who were not equally as
smart as him, "Eric's only internal struggle was witch stupid bastard was more worthy of his wrath," (Cullen 216). He had very intense anger, he
wrote notes that the lead phychiatrist on the case, Dr. Fuserier, said were "very cold blooded", (Cullen 205). Eric had no boundrys to his lies, and
with every lie its like he got angrier. He was very clam on the surface but underneath he was raging with anger, he found something he could focus his

Indiana Jones Raiders Of The Lost Ark
The theme of this film is all about discoveries. Throughout most of the movie, the main protagonist Indiana Jones is getting or looking for treasure.
At the beginning of the movie Indiana Jones was first getting this golden skull looking this but he got it stolen from himself. More later in the movie
Jones then starts to look for the lost ark which is something that is not supposed to be discovered by man but Jones manages to find it before the evil
nazi men have the chance to. All this evidence helps me conclude that the theme of this movie for sure is about finding stuff and making discoveries. I
believe the filmmakers who made Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark was trying to teach us how to be adventures and to go outside and make small

Video Games : The Grand Theft Auto Franchise
Throughout the last two recent decades, video games have made a huge leap forward in terms of graphic technologies, gameplay mechanics, realism,
and immersiveness, turning from a niche branch of business into one of the leading giants of the entertainment industry. Although many of the old
games were great even without detailed graphics and sophisticated mechanics (Fallout, Legend of Zelda, Ultima, and more), it is hard to deny that
modern gaming projects often exceed their predecessors. Let me give you some examples. We all know the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Back in my
time, I was a huge fan of GTA 1 and 2, and I still love them. But if you ask me, the bestgame of the series is the latest, the fifth one. Not because it
looks better or has bigger cities, but because the atmosphere and gameplay opportunities it creates are way more diverse and unique than any of
the GTA games before. This principle works for many other games as well. Deus Ex, one of my most favorite games ever, was first released in the
year 2000. It was a great cyberpunk noire game with unseen mechanics, storyline, concept, style, and God knows what else. But again, if you ask
me, the best Deus Ex game for me now is Human Revolution released in 2011. Civilization V is better than Civilization II. TES: Skyrim beats TES:
Daggerfall easily. Mortal Kombat X is far more diverse and engaging than Mortal Kombat 1 or 2. And so on, and so on, I can continue this list forever.
Don't get me wrong, I love old games

Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis
As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over
a long period of time one's past experiences come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates an
expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain way. This process can be viewed as
perspective, perspective influences your actions, emotions, it can be a complete "rulebook" for the way a person becomes and acts. In the book Odds
Against Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very
eccentric perspective on life and chance. Throughout the book we notice other characters and their views on the same events. This then relays back to
previous experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different
perspectives, that fact of which perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the reader. One can simply conclude that
because of the past experiences or events that an individual has encountered throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding factor in their new
perceptive. This perspective can change, as the events that we experience come to change as well. For example an overflow of optimism may be
encountered after one

Weather And Darkness And Foreshadowing In The Kiss, By...
In the short story, The Kiss by Peter Goldsworthy and the film adaptation by Ashlee Page, the authors effectively use techniques to show a sense of
impending doom for the characters. This is conveyed through the use of weather and setting and psychological doom that is created in both the film
and story, the authors use a variety of literary and film techniques to portray this.
The authors both use weather, darkness and the water tank to predict the ominous events to come, and they do this through literary and film techniques
such foreshadowing, Imagery, camera angles and lighting. Throughout the story, Goldsworthy effectively uses weather and darkness to foreshadow the
impending doom of the characters, when he says "the lighting flicker, on cue, might have been a warning sent from Kenny's parents" (p.1) and "utter
darkness" (p.1). It can be seen that Goldsworthy uses darkness as a metaphor for death and uses weather to foreshadow the ill–fated events to come. In
comparison to the story, where the director uses dark and eerie lighting throughout the entirety of the short film to build mood but also as a symbol
of danger and death. This is specifically seen when the bike light turns off and the film becomes even darker. The bike light turning off symbolises a
loss of hope and the darkness is a metaphor for danger that is to come. Foreshadowing is further used by Goldsworthy when he describes the water
tank as a "The big water tank looms out of the darkness......concrete

Erik Schultz's Accomplishments
Stuntman Erik Schultz has only been in the game for a few years, but has racked up quite a resume in that short time. Some of his credits include
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (utility stunts/double for Enrique Murciano) and Django Unchained (stunt performer). He is also frequently doubles for
actor Liam Hemsworth and worked on the last three Hunger Games films among other Hemsworth projects. Recently he did the stunts for Victor von
Doom aka Doctor Doom in the latest Fantastic Four. We had a chance to ask Erik some questions about working on Fantastic Four as well as his
experience so far in the stunt industry.
When did you decide to become a stuntman? Why?

open to the idea of doing something more active and creative. Being a stunt performer gives me that; it allows me to be extremely active physically,

What is your favorite action film growing up?
I didn't grow up watching a lot of movies; I was more of a bookworm when I was younger. Sports and martial arts also kept me pretty busy. But I

Personal Narrative: Fitness Testing
It was time to face my impending doom, the one thing that stood between me and my 'A': fitness testing. My arms would not fail me. I was not
going to fall, I was not going to break. I would face this like I faced everything else, with determination on my shoulders and perseverance on my
back. As I lifted myself from the ground, sweat dripping from my forehead, I knew it would not end well. All I could think was, 'I am not going to
make it, I am not going to make it,' and I absolutely did not. My arms gave out from under me as I hit the floor with a loud 'thud'. My teacher looked

In the early stages of my push–up, I learned that everything can be practiced but nothing can be truly perfected. Improvement is always something I
should strive for in anything I do and putting my best foot forward should always be my main goal in life. The second lesson I took from my
experience is that failure is inevitable. No one in the world is a master at everything which means everyone fails at something. My failures do not
mark the end, instead, they shape me to become stronger more fit to complete the journey ahead. The last and most important lesson I learned is that
no matter how hard I fall I must always get back up. The motions of a push–up are to bring your body up and down without falling flat on the ground.
The multiple times I have fallen flat while attempting to keep myself up can represent the many struggles and more detrimental failures in my life.
Thankfully, all of my grand defeats occurred after I learned these lessons so instead of giving up and staying flat on the ground I tried harder to

Indiana Jones Movie My Favorite Movies
The Indiana Jones series is one of the most loved and hated series ever made. "The Raiders of the Lost Ark" was the first Indiana Jones movie, which
came out in 1981. "Temple of Doom" was the second Indiana Jones movie, which came out in 1984. "The Last Crusade" was the third Indiana Jones
movie, which came out in 1989. The Indiana Jones series are my favorite movies to watch. I think that the Indiana Jones movies are the best movies
ever made because it shows adventure and action, which I think is really cool.
The overall plot of the Indiana Jones trilogy is when Indiana Jones finds these amazing old artifact, someone always comes and tries to stop him from
taking it. Also the nazis are the main people that take these artifacts from Indiana Jones because they thought it would make them invincible and the
most powerful army ever. The main characters of the Indiana Jones series are Indiana Jones, Marion RavenWood, Dr. Rene Belloq, Sallah, Dr. Marcus
Brody, Short Round, Willie Scott, and Henry Jones. In the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" Indiana Jones tries to find and recover the Ark of the covenant,
but he gets stopped by the Nazis and then the Nazis open the Ark and they all get disintegrated. In the "Temple of Doom" Indiana Jones finds the
magical and mysterious stones and he tries to steal them from this "Ruler", but he gets caught and he goes through torture and finds a way to get the

It's cold, lifeless body lay in front of me in a metal tray as my body hovered over it. The body was stiff; unmoving, as it reeked of formaldehyde.
But let's not start there, lets go back a little. It was my fourth year at Michigan Tech's Summer Youth Programs. This year I chose to take Medical

learning about the different bones in our body and different systems. Although it was mostly a result of all the dissections we were doing. Which we

Emotions In Kate Chopin's The Story Of An Hour
People's attitudes and emotions are far more diverse and intricate than what we think. Every individual is prone to feel different emotions such as
sadness, happiness, and even a mixture of both, as we are all unique in our own way. Because of these complicated emotions, we end up responding to
these feelings negatively, which lead us into complicated positions in the long–run. In the short story, "The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin, we
conflict with a similar type of situation– where the main character, Louise Mallard, ironically, in a timespan of an hour, undergoes several stages of
mixed emotions after hearing the news of her husband's death. The three key emotions expressed through Ms. Mallard's character is grief, impending
doom, and then an unexpected exhilaration, leading up to her unfortunate fatality due to an unexplained, "monstrous joy." To start off with, Ms.
Mallard deals with the first feeling of grief, when she is told by her sister Josephine, that her husband's name has been the name that led the list of ...

Mallard tries hard to reject this strange feeling of impending doom by "[striving] to beat it back with her will" as she "[begins] to recognize this thing
that [is] approaching to possess her", but she can't seem to let go of this ominous feeling. Perhaps it is signifying that the presence of her reality and

Analysis Of Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Raiders of the Lost Ark Review Raiders of the Lost Ark, also simply known by its fan base as Raiders, is a classic adventure movie whose music,
costume design, and cinematography sets the bar for all other films. With iconic music such as Indiana Jones's theme song "The Raiders March,"
memorable costumes items such as Indy's hat, and amazingly shot cinematographic scenes, Raiders of the Lost Ark is a classic movie that will surely
stand the test of time. Raiders of the Lost Ark was directed by Steven Spielberg and released on June 12, 1981. In this film, sometimes simply referred
to as "Raiders," the protagonist (Harrison Ford) is none other than Indiana Jones: professor, archeologist, and artifact–collector. After being informed by
US Army Intelligence that the Nazis are after the lost Ark of the Covenant, which contains the original ten commandments and supposedly holds the
power to "level mountains," Indy sets off to go retrieve this artifact. Jones's quest for the Ark first takes him to Nepal, where the daughter of his
mentor and former love Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) joins Indy in his search. They then fly to Cairo, Egypt, where the chamber of the Ark
supposedly lies. There they find that the Nazis have already begun a massive excavation, lead by Indiana Jones's nemesis Dr. RenГ© Belloq (Paul
Freeman).
Raiders has a soundtrack that enhances upon the already great film. In 1982, Raiders of the Lost Ark earned a BAFTA Nomination for Best Sound,

DBQ #5: Slavery and Sectional Attitudes, 1830–1860
During the mid 1800's many Americans began to have mix feelings over the issue of slavery. Many northern Americans believed that slavery was
morally wrong and that it was an evil. Southerners on the other hand believed it was a good for the economy as well as for commerce. This great split
of attitudes between the north and the south eventually led to threat of the civil war. The North saw the issue of slavery as an evil. They believed that

The article, "The Truth About Video Games and Gun Violence" by Erik Kain discusses how video games and gun violence correlates. The author
opens up with someone by the name of Aaron Alexis who resorted to gun violence while playing video games that contained violence. There is a

behavior. Throughout the years, video games continue to show images portraying violence. Tragedies like Newton has caused many well known
people or celebrities to give in their input to why violence learned by video games should be stopped or better regulated. People like Donald Trump,
Ralph Nader, and Wayne LaPierre claim that video games and violence are linked and can be seen throughout society. The government has proposed
alternatives to diminishing consumption so that violence might decrease in our society, but with this they also want to understand the influence violent
video games have on today's youth. Although, many would find Mario and Pokemon to be the most popular in the video game industry, first person

Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close Personal Quotes
September 11, 2001, was an unforgettable day that changed America forever. Thousands of lives were lost in this tragedy, like Oskar's father. In the
beginning of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Oskar mentions the Reconnaissance Expedition he and his father used to play on Sundays. After
his dad passed away, Oskar's determination to complete expeditions remains, but now a different goal arises: to find the lock to the key found in his
father's room that will help Oskar to stop missing his father. Even though Oskar knows his father is dead, this adventure is Oskar's way of receiving
closure and coping with the loss of his father. During his journey of finding the lock, Oskar often gets "heavy boots" which is his metaphor of being
burdened with emotions due to everything in his life that weighs him down. In Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer's use of the
motif "heavy boots" throughout the novel highlights that it is normal to experience grief, but there are various ways to do so.
Oskar spends much of his life attempting to find some restitution about the loss of his father. In the story, Ruth tells Mr. Black and Oskar many
facts about the Empire State Building in New York City: "That gave me heavy boots because it reminded me of the lock that I still hadn't found,
and how until I found it, I didn't love dad enough" (Foer 251). Oskar's feeling of grief and guilt about his dad's death bothers him; he feels in order
to actually love his dad and get rid of his lament to receive closure, he must find the lock. Due to the disappointment of discovering that the lock
has no connection to his father, Oskar has to invent closure to end feeling "heavy boots" by creating a fantasy world in which he and his father are
safe. The book's final pages are a flip book of photos of a man, possibly his father, falling to his death from the World Trade Center. Oskar reverses
the photos so that when you flip them, the man falls up. He creates a fictional story in which his Dad is still alive. Even though the quest doesn't give
Oskar the closure he expected, it does help him appreciate the time he did have with his Dad.
Furthermore, some tend to mourn by engaging in their hobbies and interests. Alice Black

that was selected to be critiqued is, "Are Violent Video Games Harmful to Children and Adolescents?". The purpose of this paper is to analyze and

This proves to be a problem as it does not give the reader all the details. The article expects the reader to agree with the author without knowing the
complete information. This takes away from the critical thinking that the reader should do when reading an opinionated article. It is important for the
reader to be able to form an opinion on their own and not from just what the author tells them is true. An example from the article is when he claimed
that studies have shown evidence that exposure to violent video games reduced the player's ability to control their impulses. (Gruel 2010) As a reader,
this statement is substantial to forming an opinion on the issue, but it lacks substance to deduct a thorough understanding of what is being stated.
There is no explanation of the experiment where the results came from, no discussion of sample size, no explanation of the type of experiment, and no
documentation of the subjects. The reader is left to either fill in the blanks with their own assumptions or blindly trust the author. Weakness: Suggests
that Correlation does Equal Causation The next issue that can be found, is he suggests that correlation found in studies equals causation. In the text, he
states, "Several studies documented a negative relation between amount of time playing video games and school performance among children,
adolescents, and college students." (Gruel 2010). With this he correlates video games with doing poorly in schools. This is a

Eric Harris is described by experts as a textbook example of a psychopath. Just like Dylan, Eric also did not feel like he fit in with other students
despite the fact that Eric was more talkative and was alot more outgoing than Dylan. Eric was also a very angry person but most most of the time
stayed very calm under pressure unlike Dylan, but he would rant about his anger on his own personal website, a website filled with violent tirades
against the people who were mean to Eric or anyone he simply did not like. Eric was believed to be a psychopath with no remorse or empathy for
the things he was going to do which is most likely why he was so okay with killing as many people as possible and really just releasing all his
pinned up fury against the place that he hated most. Dylan and Eric had a very strange chemistry between their often very different personalities. Even
though their personalities were often very different they were both very skilled at math and even had a mutual love of technology. The reason these
two really clicked though is because they could play off each others strengths pretty well in a variety of situations. For example when they had a run in
with the cops Dylan often panicked but Eric remained

The Importance Of Job Related Stress Among Police Officers
As a police commander or administrator, addressing the concerns of the officers in your employ, is one of the most important duties that you have.
This is especially true when addressing the issues of job related stress. Studies have shown that many police officers perceive the most stress, which
they experience, originates from within the department. The studies have also shown that job related stress is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease
in police officers (Vicini, 2013). With these thoughts in mind, it is imperative for police administrators to have a plan of action in place, to evaluate
and validate the concerns of the officers, and to provide the most effective practices to reduce this stress. As an administrator, who officers had confided
their concerns to, the first thing that I would need to do would be to evaluate the validity of the officers' claims about the stressors which they are
dealing with. The first step of this process would be to meet with the officers, in a one on one setting, so that I could evaluate their appearance, mood,
level of agitation, and their sincerity concerning the issues which they are bringing forward. This meeting would be a way of showing the officers that
I am truly concerned with heir issues, and their wellbeing. Once I have met with the officers, I would move to the next step of the evaluation. For me,
the next step in the evaluation process would be to meet with the complaining officer's direct supervisors and

Analysis Of Indiana Jones And The Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Deep in the jungles of South America a man emerges from the shadows, a gun is drawn, and the hammer clicks back. Before the gun clears the
holster, another man whose identity is concealed by shadow and the wide brim of a Fedora has already drawn his own weapon, a whip. With a crack
like thunder the whip strikes the gun and it falls to the ground, Indiana Jones emerges from the shadows with a smile on his face. Indiana Jones and the
Raiders of the Lost Ark is an action movie that was produced by Steven Spielberg in 1981. The film follows the adventures of Indiana Jones as he
attempts to find the Ark of the Covenant before it falls under Nazi control. The first scene of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
introduces two main characters, Indiana Jones and Dr. Rene Belloq. Throughout the film these two characters compete to acquire the Ark of the
Covenant, their actions all leading towards the final scene where only one man achieves this goal. Steven Spielberg uses techniques such as framing,
visual effects, and lighting in the first and last scenes of the movie to develop the classic hero and villain archetypes for Dr. Jones and Dr. Belloq
respectively. Steven Spielberg begins Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark in medias res, meaning that the movie starts in the middle of
action. Beginning in media res, the opening scene shows Indiana Jones on an expedition in South America to retrieve a golden idol. As a result of
choosing to begin the film in medias res,

##ymbolism In The Jade Peony By Wayson Choy And The Yellow...
Many people are represented by their environment – their surroundings reflect their
physical well–beings regardless of its nature. Literature often manipulates this truth in order
to suggest a deeper meaning behind an otherwise mundane facade. "The Jade Peony" by
Wayson Choy and "The Yellow Wallpaper" byCharlotte Perkins Gilman are two examples of
how symbolism is indicative of a character's physical state. For instance, both the grandma
and the bamboo shoots in "The Jade Peony" perish due to cold weather, and the narrator's
sense of freedom and intellectual activity is epitomized within the moonlight in "The Yellow Wallpaper."
In both short stories, symbolism is used to portray the impending doom on the characters' physical state. This idea is clearly presented in "The Yellow
Wallpaper" by the image of the bed being nailed down to the ground and how that reflects her isolation in the room. In the beginning of the story, the
narrator despises the room she is confined in. She is stuck in the room day in and day out – all day "[she] lies here on this great immovable bed –it is
nailed down" (p.337). The significance of the bed being nailed down and immovable plays a great role in the narrator's physical state: it signifies
how the narrator is immovable and can not leave the room. Just like the bed, the narrator is hypothetically nailed down to the ground, unable to leave
or rather do anything without the permission of her husband. Another example of this takes place in "The Jade Peony" with the bamboo shoots dying
of the cold, just like the grandma. The whole household are strong believers of signs, so after the death of the grandma her son went to her garden to
look for a sign. He then "looked at the frost–killed shoots and cringed: no, that can not be it" (p.109). From this point on we are given a hint of how the
grandma will die, which is an important detail for further understanding the character's physical state. For instance, while understanding the cold killing
the bamboo shoots, the son then realizes that something his mother loved and cared for dearly died of the same way. Overall, the two short stories
share the impending doom of the character's physical state through symbolism. Given

The Rating System Is Entirely Voluntary
The MPAA likes to advertise that their rating system is entirely voluntary. Virtually, their system is only in place as an informative tool provided to

the overall life span of a film. The is no realistic alternative other than going through the process of receiving a rating by the MPAA, editing the film to
their liking or taking your chances with the appeals board. The members of the MPAA which include Sony Pictures (Sony), Warner Brothers (Time

the horse to water, so it's tough to take a drink, you just don't know what you're shooting at. Like in the case of Clerks, what is it. What gave us the
NC–17?..." This board of individuals is almost like the gatekeeper for all films where they can decide the fate of a film with a label. As a nation we
are being robbed of our right to choose the films we want to see and have our children see, but as individuals what can we do? As an individual one
might feel overwhelmed when discovering an unsettling aspect that may affect our lives. One may think to themselves what can only one person

The Startup 's Unique Origin Story
Your Startup's Unique Origin Story Can Be Your Most Marketable Asset
Blood, sweat, tears – ask the founder of any startup, and she'll tell you those are the building
blocks which went into her company. She has toiled for months, even years to make this happen,
often in some cramped space hidden away in the bowels of someone else's building.
Dig a little deeper, and you begin to learn more about how the company started and what made
its creator so passionate – passionate enough to do the creating. If you're a consumer or an
investor, however, you shouldn't have to dig for this origin story. It should be front–and–center in
the startup's marketing campaign.
Why Share Your Origin Story
Your origin story is what sets you apart from your competition. Investors and consumers alike
have choice no matter the niche, and as a startup, you are in a position to cultivate your own
reputation.
If your origin story has to do with social responsibility, like Warby Parker's, this lends to your
credibility within your market. It never hurts to share your good karma.
Did you meet in college and have been best friends for decades? Did you use your own guerilla
marketing tactics to get off the ground? The story of Sara Blakely, her white pants, and her
footless pantyhose has made the origin story rounds for years –– for good reason.
Did you see a need in another industry and fill it with your own product? Nearly everyone in the

Elements Of Mise En Scene In Night Of The Living Dead
There are many different elements of film that filmmakers can utilize to make a film. Direction, storyline, cinematography, mise en scene, as well
as point of view and tone can all lend a hand in making a film great. One might say that the most important aspect of a film is the script. Others
might argue the actors are the most important part. However, an impressive balance of all of the different elements of film are what can elevate a
film to greatness. That is why the best film viewed this semester is Night of the Living Dead. There are three elements of film that are individually
important, however when they are viewed as a dependent unit (one element depending on another) they become absolutely critical to a great film
and the impending success or failure. These three parts are narrative, direction and cast. Films have been viewed as a success or failure based on
their narrative being portrayed alone. Yet, direction, cast as well as narrative have a directly proportional relationship. Great director and a great
cast with a mediocre script or storyline will produce a mediocre film. Any one of these elements can be less than great and it will negatively affect
the others as well as the film. All of these and more displayed perfect balance in Night of the Living Dead. George Romero did a remarkable job of
ensuring emotions were conveyed to their audience through the camera, as well as his brilliant use of mise en scene (which will be discussed later).

The Inevitable Fate In Beowulf
"All of us have bad and good luck. The man who persists through the bad luck – who who keep right on going – is the man who is there when the good
luck comes – and is ready to receive it" (Robert Collier). Beowulf perfectly demonstrates this quote because throughout the story he has to push
through the bad luck and be there ready for the good. Beowulf is a classic work of literature from Anglo–Saxon times. The book is filled with a sense
of impending death and sudden change which leads to a very unique mood for the book. The sense of impending death and sudden change is shown
by the sense of inevitable doom and the role fate plays. Beowulf is full of a strong sense of the inevitable doom that no one can control. It is shown by

The nature of fate also made a major impact upon the sense of doom and death. Fate played a major role in pagan society during this time period
and this is demonstrated when, in his old age, Beowulf goes to fight the dragon and it says, "That noble prince would end his day on earth, soon,
would leave his brief life, but would take the dragon with him". This means that Beowulf accepts that he will die eventually and is leaving it up to
fate whether or not he kills the dragon or if he is killed so, this allows him to fight with no fear just like he did against Grendel. During this time
period life expectancy was much shorter which led to the sense that death was always right there waiting. Couple the short life span with the
chance of war or disease killing you and life became a thing to cherish with death being the only thing a person was guaranteed to as even infants
died before they could even do anything. Disease that today would be no problem for our modern medicine would wipe out entire towns and
villages. With the wrong luck everything you worked for in your life could be wiped out and there is nothing that could be done. Beowulf is a story
of great courage and triumph over adversity. But over the whole story there is a hanging sense of dread and impending death. This is shown by the
sense of impending death, the strong sense of doom, and the nature of luck throughout the story. These play a mojo role in shaping how the story

Essay about Effective Foreshadowing in Flannery...
Effective Foreshadowing in Flannery O'Connor's Greenleaf
"Mrs. May's bedroom window was low and faced on the east and the bull, silvered in the moonlight, stood under it, his head raised as if he listened–
like some patient god come down to woo her– for a stir inside her room. The window was dark and the sound of her breathing too light to be carried
outside. Clouds crossing the room blackened him and in the dark he began to tear at the hedge. Presently they passed and he appeared again in the same
spot, chewing steadily, with a hedge–wreath that he had ripped loose for himself caught in the tips of his horns. When the moon drifted into retirement

Her murderer, "some nigger's scrub bull"(311), is here to stay. He is not a fleeting image at her window side. Rather, he is "patient", "[appears] again
in the same spot", and is twice described by the modifier "steady". In addition, the bull seems to transcend ideas of time and nature's cycles. Although,
in the first paragaph he only outlasts one cycle of the moon emerging and retracting, his unwavering presence characterizes him as a survivor.
If the bull is a survivor, then Mrs. May is a victim. In contrast to the bull, she is vulnerable and defenseless. Her window "was low" and her breathing
"was light". She is the recipient of the action, as opposed to the giver. The bull watches her and presents his horns, the instrument of her forthcoming
death. Mrs. May, as with her death, has no choice in the matter. There is nothing she can do but be watched and presented to.
The ideas of the dominator and dominated evident in the word choice of the paragraph hint at the mechanics of Mrs. May's murder. When the bull takes
her life in the story's final scene, she is penetrated by the horns that were presented to her on the first night outside her window.
Repetition, although subtle, is evident in the paragraph. The word "window" is repeated three times, and "chewing" is repeated twice. The repetition is
not particularly noticeable upon first reading of this paragraph because the words appear in different structural areas

Descriptive Essay On My Dream Car
Whether it's a lifted truck running a hemi or a suped up WRX, your dream car embodies what you desire, the life you'd like to live, and the kind of
person you'd like to be. Your real car embodies what you have, the life you live, and the kind of person you are.
The search for your dream car entails spending months combing over different makes and models of car, seeing which has the most horsepower, the
fastest, the best for mudding or the best for racing. Pondering what it would be like to own such a masterpiece of vehicular perfection.
The time spent imagining what your friends would think if you were to pull up to school in a Rolls Royce, stepping out like a lavish Bill Gates. The
flock of people crowding around the new wheels just to catch a glimpse.
Instead, people walk briskly past your car to distance themselves from the smell of burning oil and the squeaking the tranny makes anytime you shift to
park.
But back to the dream car, the embodiment of fancy, adorning a leather interior, unnecessary interior lights, top of the line dash clusters and head unit
gadgets.
You look down and see your car is outfitted with an interior resembling a 1640's tavern. Seats stuffed with a frightening combination of feathers
and hay, interior lights so dim you can't see the pedals in the dark and worst of all, the dash. The tachometer, idling dangerously close to 3, spikes
randomly if you go over 45. As we move over, we meet the fuel gage, hovering ever so close to the dreaded E. Does your car know what a full tank
of gas is like or only what $5 gets you? But hey, I'm sure that's enough to get to school, right? Next we find the temperature gage, where even in park
the daring arrow continues to inch it's way closer and closer to H. Then we glance over to the ominous but impending doom of the dash lights. You
know what light that is, but if you don't look maybe it will go away. A strange box with the word "CHECK" inside. It could be anything from a faulty
light, to a blown head gasket, but that's not important cause you're not fixing it regardless.
Last but not least, we reach the coup de gras of your dash, the odometer. Dust covers the numbers, protecting your eyes from the abomination that is the
mileage.

Essay on William Shakespeare's 18th and 55th Sonnets
William Shakespeare's 18th and 55th Sonnets
Both William Shakespeare's 18th and 55th sonnet's are full and complete examples of poetry at its best, and, while studying Shakespeare's form is
very important, it is equally so to look at the content and even further deep to its true meanings. His techniques which have immortalized him over
several centuries are displayed at their best while still capturing his goal of honoring his lover.
Although the two poems were written separately, the shared theme is evident and they almost seem to flow together. In the 18thsonnet, Shakespeare
begins by comparing his lover to a summer's day, which may be seen as a high compliment. Upon reading further, you find that not even the sun and...

Through the previous lines, he expressed the link of future lovers to the life of his own. He speaks of broken marble, neglected tombs, war, fire, and
the greatest challenge, time, but, through it all, his love will live on in the eyes of the future.
In his elaborate comparisons, Shakespeare uses extensive imagery along with personification and analogies from the very beginning of the 18th
sonnet where he characterizes the admired one as a summer's day. His descriptions of "besmeared" tombs and the fiery wars described in the 55th
pull the reader in and force a vision of impending doom, only to be brought back out to a more serene feel by the ending lines describing eternal life
and love. Things not usually mobile are brought to life by his personification, such as the sun and "his golden complexion" in the ever famous 18th
sonnet. Even more moving is the characterization of death, made human and able to do such things as brag and consume one in his looming shade.
The wind is given the power to blow itself and "shake the darling buds of May" while in the 55th Shakespeare declares mortal men unable to "outlive
this powerful rhyme," making it nearly god–like.
The mysterious lover discussed so often in his works brings them the writing to life and fills us with questions as to who this powerful figure in William
Shakespeare's life could have been. One

Comparsion of Jack London's The Call of the Wild and John...
This is the four line epigraph present on the first page of The Call of the Wild by Jack London. Before you try to find how this section of
"Atavism" by John Myers O'Hara, relates to the theme of The Call of the Wild, you must understand the words used. "Nomadic" means moving
around and not staying in one place. O'Hara uses these words in a weird order, because it seems like it should say that your nomadic longings are
leaping. The first line of this epigraph says that if you stay in one place for a long time, your instincts (old longings from ancestors) to move from
place to place (to be nomadic) are going to flare up. "Chafing" means to cause annoyance. By using the phrase "Chafing at custom's chain" O'Hara
means that you are being annoyed by traditional ways. "Custom's chain" refers to these traditional ways. Therefore the feelings to want to become
nomadic are clashing with the feelings of following tradition's ways. "Brumal" means wintry. O'Hara is using this as a metaphor with the direct
meaning being waking up from winter hibernation, but the deeper meaning is the realization or awakening of the need to break away from traditional
ways. "Ferine" means wild and "strain" in this case means type. When O'Hara uses ferine as an adjective to describe strain, he is referring to the wild
side we each have due to our natural instincts. All in all "Old longings nomadic leap, Chafing at custom's chain; Again from its brumal sleep wakens
the ferine strain," means we are

The Family Secret
"I hate them!" he expressed, furious with his family. Why do I get in trouble for nothing? he thought as he wandered into the dark forest. His brothers
were the cause and somehow, he ended up in the midst. Of course, when his parents intervened, they only saw the damage and wouldn't listen. The
three, off to bed without supper! The littlest looked around hoping to find something as his stomach began to growl. The plan, never go home, ever
again. How could he? His parents were liars! Always speaking of family and watching out for each other; they were just as selfish as the villagers
that he was warned about. They would be happy he was gone! His wandering thoughts rushed back as he saw a glimmer of hope for a morsel. He was
careful, as his papa taught, not to be seen. He waited, peering, hiding from the unsuspecting prey! Two of them; adrenalin pumped through his veins.
The two passed around trees, weaving back and forth, on the worn path without the slightest knowledge of impending doom. Desire was at its peak; he
could control his lust for food no longer. He ascended from his hiding spot as a rush of wind gained the attention of his prey that was caused by his
less than magnificent wings. The youngling let out a horrific screech that terrified the villagers. One froze with fear, the other in terror ran for his life.

How Is Eric Harris Related To Columbine Shooting
Why did Eric and Dylan do it? What made the two even consider the columbine massacre? Dylan Klebold was a depressant. He felt as if people in

anyone or anything, as if he was useless and he wanted attention for once. He had succeeded at getting his attention. Dylan was hotheaded, but
depressive and suicidal. Dylan would have never pulled off the Columbine massacre without Eric. "Eric was not a depressive, like Dylan, that was for

The stereotype of women making decisions that are extremely selfish are initially for there self beneficence in this movie as it eventually leads to
selfish behaviour and self destruction. The selfish behaviour occurs when Elsa Schneider took the grail and got all possessive over it like it's all hers
and executes like there will be no aftermath to her actions because there is no one superior than her. When Elsa Schneider took the grail and verbally
expressed "We have got it, come on! It's ours Indiana, yours and mine" (Steven Spielberg). Elsa knew she couldn't take the grail past the seal but she
did it because she did not perceive the consequences but rather the benefit, all because of the stereotypical selfish behaviour of women. The
moment when Dr Elsa Schneider took the grail and said "We have got it, come on! It's ours Indiana, yours and mine"(Steven Spielberg), shows the
how feminist attributes of females such as selfish decisions was shown in this scene. When the words were spoken, the shining gaze in Elsa's eyes
clearly shows how everything she was doing to get the grail was for her own benefit clearly making it a selfish decision. The grail was clearly not
only hers and she was not suppose to cross the seal but then again, self benefitting decisions always lead to negative events and negative impressions
on the character. Women are usually seen as making decisions that either hurt others or are only benefiting them as this is exceptionally shown in this

Movie Analysis : Dead Pool
Action Adventure movies are one of the most common genre of movies that we see in the theatres. This genre of movie makes the biggest headlines
and is also paired with the biggest ticket sales. So with such huge success that the Action Adventure genre within movies has, something has to be
working to garner such an audience. In this year there have been quit a few Action Adventure movie hits, such the widely anticipated movie "Dead
pool." Dead pool is a movie about a dark humored mercenary who is subjected to an experiment that mutates his genes, giving him powers and a
thirst for revenge. Dead pool ended up setting records for the biggest opening for a movie in February, as well as the biggest opening for an R–rated
movie, ever. As one can tell, it was a rather successful movie. It begs the question, why did such a movie work for the audience? Deadpool had a
couple of things going for it to make it work. Things such as it's R–rating, it's marvel and comic book origins, it's humor, and as well as it's fan base.
These things combined produced the perfect cocktail for audiences. Deadpool was a first of it's kind. Not only that but it showed Hollywood that
such a movie, where nothing was off limits, could prevail in the industry. Many of the recent marvel movies that have been released in the past few
years have had a PG–13 rating. This is the most popular rating among movies across all genres. This is because it's not seen as a kid's movie like G or

The Heart Reserves A Special Place For Music
The heart reserves a special place for music. To many, music is more than a melody or a combination of sounds pulsating in ears; it brings out
emotions, memories, and shared vibes. Whether a person is an avid listener or casually listens to music, everyone has a few specific albums that laid a
foundation for the music they currently enjoy. Recently, I have rediscovered one of these albums,Madvillainy, when putting my old playlist on shuffle.
The album consists of Daniel Dumile, the album's MC (rapper) who goes by many aliases, but most commonly as MF Doom, and Otis Jackson Jr., or
Madlib. The underground hip–hop album was released in 2004 and is now considered a classic by many. The album's 22 tracks consist of skits,
instrumentals, and rapping with most tracks around two minutes long. Madvillainy has proven to me to be a masterpiece and a consistently good listen.
One of the qualities that set Madvillainy apart from its peers, is the superb production performance given by Madlib. The album's production is
magnificent, even to Pitchfork standards, saying, "the samples are smart and never played–out, and the production and rhymes reveal a determined
sense of cooperation, as Doom spouts off his most brilliant lyrical change–ups and production–conscious playoffs" (Pemberton). Like stated in
Pitchfork, the production works cohesively with MF Doom's rapping. For example, on the song "Meat Grinder", the beat alone seems quirky, sounding
like it belongs in an episode of Spongebob,

Death In Mary Oliver's Sleeping In The Forest
Mary Oliver's poem, "Sleeping in the Forest," presents a peaceful and vivid representation of death and its relationship with nature. As the poem
begins, the reader is introduced to the earth welcoming the speaker back into the realm of nature. Man was created from the dust of the earth and
when we die, our bodies return to the dust. However, this poem presents a more beautiful image of what death is composed of. Death is often
portrayed as being frightening and disturbing. When individuals are presented with the thought of death, they often push this thought away out of
fear and ignorance. Everyone will die someday whether we ignore the thought of death or not. However, Oliver creates a relaxing and welcoming
image for the reader on what death (ideally) is. Obviously, since Oliver is still alive, she doesn't know what death feels like. However, the way she
describes death, I hope that it feels like sleeping in a forest; full of stars and enchantment. The enchantment in this poem begins by the earth
welcoming the speaker back home. This speaker expresses that, "She took me back so tenderly." This statement exemplifies to the reader that death is
not a scary process. In this case, the earth is being portrayed as a woman. This is significant because women are often portrayed as being nurturing and
caring. For the reader, this can trigger memories or ideas of who the reader would picture the earth as. Whether that be a mother, grandmother, aunt,
sister, etc. the reader can

Words In Ernestingway's Cat In The Rain By Ernest Hemingway
The words an author uses in his or her writing are the portal to understanding the story and its meaning. The fewer the words, the more the reader has
to infer about the aspects of the story. In much of Ernest Hemingway's writing, words are scarce and, therefore, much more valuable. His inclusion of
minute details, like describing the world around him and what he sees, adds vital information to the story. In order for the reader to better comprehend
the story, Hemingway introduces the reader to various animals in his writings. The importance of the animals and what they represent in Hemingway's
writing make up for the lack of details of his minimalist writing style. The kitten in the short story Cat in the Rain represents the American woman's
desires. Throughout the story, the reader readily concludes that the marriage between George, the husband, and his wife, whose name is not given, is
not a healthy relationship. Moreover, if one did not pick up on the corrupt nature of the marriage, the weather indicates a dark and gloomy mood, as
it is raining. A small kitten protected by the top of a table catches the eye of the American wife, who exclaims numerous times that she "wants a kitty".
When George fails to acknowledge her desires, she insists that "It's not any fun to be a poor kitty out in the rain" (Hemingway ##). While the woman
is talking about the kitten, on the surface, she is also referring to herself. The cat in the rain is the perfect representation of the

Eric Harris Influence On Kids

  • 1. Eric Harris Influence On Kids Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were the ideal teenage kids, they played sports as kids, but grew out of them. They became more fascinated with computers, and both had high grades. They got in to a little bit of trouble here and there, just like every other teenager. From fist glance you would never know the depth of anger, depression and deception both had hidden inside that would soon explode. There emotions very diffrent but fit together; Dylan was angry highly depressed and Eric an angry psychopath, with want to be remembered. The anger broght them close, and also lead them to a killing rampage at their school. Dylan was known as the shy and nice kid, with a temper that he occasionaly could not hold back. His parents described him as, "extraordinary shy, but happy," (Cullen 209). just a normal teenage boy, although he never had a girlfriend. He did like a girl at his school, but he was too shy and self concious to ever talk to her. He did write alot about her in his jornal, witch was depressing at first, "I get... But Eric was two faced, when he got in any kind of trouble he would say, "exactly what a parent wanted to hear" (Cullen 218). And he blamed most things that happend on Dylan, "Eric blamed Dylan... He said Dyan kept pestering him and eventually wore him down," (Cullen 202). Eric had alot of anger built up inside, he hated people who were not equally as smart as him, "Eric's only internal struggle was witch stupid bastard was more worthy of his wrath," (Cullen 216). He had very intense anger, he wrote notes that the lead phychiatrist on the case, Dr. Fuserier, said were "very cold blooded", (Cullen 205). Eric had no boundrys to his lies, and with every lie its like he got angrier. He was very clam on the surface but underneath he was raging with anger, he found something he could focus his anger on, and a way to always be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Indiana Jones Raiders Of The Lost Ark The theme of this film is all about discoveries. Throughout most of the movie, the main protagonist Indiana Jones is getting or looking for treasure. At the beginning of the movie Indiana Jones was first getting this golden skull looking this but he got it stolen from himself. More later in the movie Jones then starts to look for the lost ark which is something that is not supposed to be discovered by man but Jones manages to find it before the evil nazi men have the chance to. All this evidence helps me conclude that the theme of this movie for sure is about finding stuff and making discoveries. I believe the filmmakers who made Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark was trying to teach us how to be adventures and to go outside and make small ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Video Games : The Grand Theft Auto Franchise Throughout the last two recent decades, video games have made a huge leap forward in terms of graphic technologies, gameplay mechanics, realism, and immersiveness, turning from a niche branch of business into one of the leading giants of the entertainment industry. Although many of the old games were great even without detailed graphics and sophisticated mechanics (Fallout, Legend of Zelda, Ultima, and more), it is hard to deny that modern gaming projects often exceed their predecessors. Let me give you some examples. We all know the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Back in my time, I was a huge fan of GTA 1 and 2, and I still love them. But if you ask me, the bestgame of the series is the latest, the fifth one. Not because it looks better or has bigger cities, but because the atmosphere and gameplay opportunities it creates are way more diverse and unique than any of the GTA games before. This principle works for many other games as well. Deus Ex, one of my most favorite games ever, was first released in the year 2000. It was a great cyberpunk noire game with unseen mechanics, storyline, concept, style, and God knows what else. But again, if you ask me, the best Deus Ex game for me now is Human Revolution released in 2011. Civilization V is better than Civilization II. TES: Skyrim beats TES: Daggerfall easily. Mortal Kombat X is far more diverse and engaging than Mortal Kombat 1 or 2. And so on, and so on, I can continue this list forever. Don't get me wrong, I love old games ... • 4. Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of time one's past experiences come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates an expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your actions, emotions, it can be a complete "rulebook" for the way a person becomes and acts. In the book Odds Against Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very eccentric perspective on life and chance. Throughout the book we notice other characters and their views on the same events. This then relays back to previous experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the reader. One can simply conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an individual has encountered throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding factor in their new perceptive. This perspective can change, as the events that we experience come to change as well. For example an overflow of optimism may be encountered after one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wildlife Planet believes otherwise and now we are calling on California or the federal government to arrest arrested and charge hiw with . Marc Ching should also be charged with premeditated felony animal abuse and/or as an accomplice in the torturing, injuring and death of an unknown number of dogs in China. Federal authorities should immediately revoke his passport due to the fact that his trips abroad have led to animal abuse that he himself has initiated. I have devoted countless hours investigating this fraud and it's amazing to me that so many failed to see what was staring them in their faces. • 7. Weather And Darkness And Foreshadowing In The Kiss, By... In the short story, The Kiss by Peter Goldsworthy and the film adaptation by Ashlee Page, the authors effectively use techniques to show a sense of impending doom for the characters. This is conveyed through the use of weather and setting and psychological doom that is created in both the film and story, the authors use a variety of literary and film techniques to portray this. The authors both use weather, darkness and the water tank to predict the ominous events to come, and they do this through literary and film techniques such foreshadowing, Imagery, camera angles and lighting. Throughout the story, Goldsworthy effectively uses weather and darkness to foreshadow the impending doom of the characters, when he says "the lighting flicker, on cue, might have been a warning sent from Kenny's parents" (p.1) and "utter darkness" (p.1). It can be seen that Goldsworthy uses darkness as a metaphor for death and uses weather to foreshadow the ill–fated events to come. In comparison to the story, where the director uses dark and eerie lighting throughout the entirety of the short film to build mood but also as a symbol of danger and death. This is specifically seen when the bike light turns off and the film becomes even darker. The bike light turning off symbolises a loss of hope and the darkness is a metaphor for danger that is to come. Foreshadowing is further used by Goldsworthy when he describes the water tank as a "The big water tank looms out of the darkness......concrete ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Recently he did the stunts for Victor von Doom aka Doctor Doom in the latest Fantastic Four. We had a chance to ask Erik some questions about working on Fantastic Four as well as his experience so far in the stunt industry. When did you decide to become a stuntman? Why? I was not going to fall, I was not going to break. I would face this like I faced everything else, with determination on my shoulders and perseverance on my back. As I lifted myself from the ground, sweat dripping from my forehead, I knew it would not end well. All I could think was, 'I am not going to make it, I am not going to make it,' and I absolutely did not. My arms gave out from under me as I hit the floor with a loud 'thud'. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the early stages of my push–up, I learned that everything can be practiced but nothing can be truly perfected. Improvement is always something I should strive for in anything I do and putting my best foot forward should always be my main goal in life. The second lesson I took from my experience is that failure is inevitable. No one in the world is a master at everything which means everyone fails at something. My failures do not mark the end, instead, they shape me to become stronger more fit to complete the journey ahead. The last and most important lesson I learned is that no matter how hard I fall I must always get back up. The motions of a push–up are to bring your body up and down without falling flat on the ground. The multiple times I have fallen flat while attempting to keep myself up can represent the many struggles and more detrimental failures in my life. Thankfully, all of my grand defeats occurred after I learned these lessons so instead of giving up and staying flat on the ground I tried harder to overcome these bumps in my road to ... "The Raiders of the Lost Ark" was the first Indiana Jones movie, which came out in 1981. "Temple of Doom" was the second Indiana Jones movie, which came out in 1984. "The Last Crusade" was the third Indiana Jones movie, which came out in 1989. The Indiana Jones series are my favorite movies to watch. I think that the Indiana Jones movies are the best movies ever made because it shows adventure and action, which I think is really cool. The overall plot of the Indiana Jones trilogy is when Indiana Jones finds these amazing old artifact, someone always comes and tries to stop him from taking it. Also the nazis are the main people that take these artifacts from Indiana Jones because they thought it would make them invincible and the most powerful army ever. • 12. Medical Physiology It's cold, lifeless body lay in front of me in a metal tray as my body hovered over it. The body was stiff; unmoving, as it reeked of formaldehyde. But let's not start there, lets go back a little. It was my fourth year at Michigan Tech's Summer Youth Programs. This year I chose to take Medical Physiology. I wonder when I'm getting my degree, I comically thought to myself with a snicker. Medical Physiology was delightfully fun actually, learning about the different bones in our body and different systems. Although it was mostly a result of all the dissections we were doing. Which we were in the middle of one right now. The pale mink lay in front of six people, unaware of what horrors it's body is going to be going through in death. I felt ... There was a unison of "all right's" and the dissection continued, without us cutting into his skull. As the dissection headed toward its end, we inspected and identified his organs. We took out his heart, liver, and intestines. Laying them out on the tray and taking out some more. • 13. Emotions In Kate Chopin's The Story Of An Hour People's attitudes and emotions are far more diverse and intricate than what we think. Every individual is prone to feel different emotions such as sadness, happiness, and even a mixture of both, as we are all unique in our own way. Because of these complicated emotions, we end up responding to these feelings negatively, which lead us into complicated positions in the long–run. In the short story, "The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin, we conflict with a similar type of situation– where the main character, Louise Mallard, ironically, in a timespan of an hour, undergoes several stages of mixed emotions after hearing the news of her husband's death. The three key emotions expressed through Ms. Mallard's character is grief, impending doom, and then an unexpected exhilaration, leading up to her unfortunate fatality due to an unexplained, "monstrous joy." To start off with, Ms. Mallard deals with the first feeling of grief, when she is told by her sister Josephine, that her husband's name has been the name that led the list of ... This reveals that something is creeping up towards her from outside the window, but doesn't know what exactly that "something" is. Ms. Mallard tries hard to reject this strange feeling of impending doom by "[striving] to beat it back with her will" as she "[begins] to recognize this thing that [is] approaching to possess her", but she can't seem to let go of this ominous feeling. Perhaps it is signifying that the presence of her reality and fate of her husband's truth is approaching closer, as she feels "something coming to her and [is] waiting for it, ... • 19. Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close Personal Quotes September 11, 2001, was an unforgettable day that changed America forever. Thousands of lives were lost in this tragedy, like Oskar's father. In the beginning of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Oskar mentions the Reconnaissance Expedition he and his father used to play on Sundays. After his dad passed away, Oskar's determination to complete expeditions remains, but now a different goal arises: to find the lock to the key found in his father's room that will help Oskar to stop missing his father. Even though Oskar knows his father is dead, this adventure is Oskar's way of receiving closure and coping with the loss of his father. During his journey of finding the lock, Oskar often gets "heavy boots" which is his metaphor of being burdened with emotions due to everything in his life that weighs him down. In Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer's use of the motif "heavy boots" throughout the novel highlights that it is normal to experience grief, but there are various ways to do so. Oskar spends much of his life attempting to find some restitution about the loss of his father. In the story, Ruth tells Mr. Black and Oskar many facts about the Empire State Building in New York City: "That gave me heavy boots because it reminded me of the lock that I still hadn't found, and how until I found it, I didn't love dad enough" (Foer 251). Oskar's feeling of grief and guilt about his dad's death bothers him; he feels in order to actually love his dad and get rid of his lament to receive closure, he must find the lock. Due to the disappointment of discovering that the lock has no connection to his father, Oskar has to invent closure to end feeling "heavy boots" by creating a fantasy world in which he and his father are safe. The book's final pages are a flip book of photos of a man, possibly his father, falling to his death from the World Trade Center. Oskar reverses the photos so that when you flip them, the man falls up. He creates a fictional story in which his Dad is still alive. Even though the quest doesn't give Oskar the closure he expected, it does help him appreciate the time he did have with his Dad. Furthermore, some tend to mourn by engaging in their hobbies and interests. Alice Black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Job Related Stress Among Police Officers As a police commander or administrator, addressing the concerns of the officers in your employ, is one of the most important duties that you have. This is especially true when addressing the issues of job related stress. Studies have shown that many police officers perceive the most stress, which they experience, originates from within the department. The studies have also shown that job related stress is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease in police officers (Vicini, 2013). With these thoughts in mind, it is imperative for police administrators to have a plan of action in place, to evaluate and validate the concerns of the officers, and to provide the most effective practices to reduce this stress. As an administrator, who officers had confided their concerns to, the first thing that I would need to do would be to evaluate the validity of the officers' claims about the stressors which they are dealing with. The first step of this process would be to meet with the officers, in a one on one setting, so that I could evaluate their appearance, mood, level of agitation, and their sincerity concerning the issues which they are bringing forward. This meeting would be a way of showing the officers that I am truly concerned with heir issues, and their wellbeing. Throughout the film these two characters compete to acquire the Ark of the Covenant, their actions all leading towards the final scene where only one man achieves this goal. Steven Spielberg uses techniques such as framing, visual effects, and lighting in the first and last scenes of the movie to develop the classic hero and villain archetypes for Dr. Jones and Dr. Belloq respectively. Steven Spielberg begins Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark in medias res, meaning that the movie starts in the middle of action. • 24. ##ymbolism In The Jade Peony By Wayson Choy And The Yellow... Many people are represented by their environment – their surroundings reflect their physical well–beings regardless of its nature. Literature often manipulates this truth in order to suggest a deeper meaning behind an otherwise mundane facade. "The Jade Peony" by Wayson Choy and "The Yellow Wallpaper" byCharlotte Perkins Gilman are two examples of how symbolism is indicative of a character's physical state. For instance, both the grandma and the bamboo shoots in "The Jade Peony" perish due to cold weather, and the narrator's sense of freedom and intellectual activity is epitomized within the moonlight in "The Yellow Wallpaper." In both short stories, symbolism is used to portray the impending doom on the characters' physical state. This idea is clearly presented in "The Yellow Wallpaper" by the image of the bed being nailed down to the ground and how that reflects her isolation in the room. In the beginning of the story, the narrator despises the room she is confined in. She is stuck in the room day in and day out – all day "[she] lies here on this great immovable bed –it is nailed down" (p.337). The significance of the bed being nailed down and immovable plays a great role in the narrator's physical state: it signifies how the narrator is immovable and can not leave the room. Just like the bed, the narrator is hypothetically nailed down to the ground, unable to leave or rather do anything without the permission of her husband. Another example of this takes place in "The Jade Peony" with the bamboo shoots dying of the cold, just like the grandma. The whole household are strong believers of signs, so after the death of the grandma her son went to her garden to look for a sign. He then "looked at the frost–killed shoots and cringed: no, that can not be it" (p.109). From this point on we are given a hint of how the grandma will die, which is an important detail for further understanding the character's physical state. For instance, while understanding the cold killing the bamboo shoots, the son then realizes that something his mother loved and cared for dearly died of the same way. Overall, the two short stories share the impending doom of the character's physical state through symbolism. Given

  • 29. Elements Of Mise En Scene In Night Of The Living Dead There are many different elements of film that filmmakers can utilize to make a film. Direction, storyline, cinematography, mise en scene, as well as point of view and tone can all lend a hand in making a film great. One might say that the most important aspect of a film is the script. Others might argue the actors are the most important part. However, an impressive balance of all of the different elements of film are what can elevate a film to greatness. That is why the best film viewed this semester is Night of the Living Dead. There are three elements of film that are individually important, however when they are viewed as a dependent unit (one element depending on another) they become absolutely critical to a great film and the impending success or failure. These three parts are narrative, direction and cast. Films have been viewed as a success or failure based on their narrative being portrayed alone. Yet, direction, cast as well as narrative have a directly proportional relationship. Great director and a great cast with a mediocre script or storyline will produce a mediocre film. Any one of these elements can be less than great and it will negatively affect the others as well as the film. All of these and more displayed perfect balance in Night of the Living Dead. George Romero did a remarkable job of ensuring emotions were conveyed to their audience through the camera, as well as his brilliant use of mise en scene (which will be discussed later). The nature of fate also made a major impact upon the sense of doom and death. Fate played a major role in pagan society during this time period and this is demonstrated when, in his old age, Beowulf goes to fight the dragon and it says, "That noble prince would end his day on earth, soon, would leave his brief life, but would take the dragon with him". This means that Beowulf accepts that he will die eventually and is leaving it up to fate whether or not he kills the dragon or if he is killed so, this allows him to fight with no fear just like he did against Grendel. During this time period life expectancy was much shorter which led to the sense that death was always right there waiting. Couple the short life span with the chance of war or disease killing you and life became a thing to cherish with death being the only thing a person was guaranteed to as even infants died before they could even do anything. Disease that today would be no problem for our modern medicine would wipe out entire towns and villages. With the wrong luck everything you worked for in your life could be wiped out and there is nothing that could be done. Beowulf is a story of great courage and triumph over adversity. Although, in the first paragaph he only outlasts one cycle of the moon emerging and retracting, his unwavering presence characterizes him as a survivor. If the bull is a survivor, then Mrs. May is a victim. In contrast to the bull, she is vulnerable and defenseless. Her window "was low" and her breathing "was light". Pondering what it would be like to own such a masterpiece of vehicular perfection. The time spent imagining what your friends would think if you were to pull up to school in a Rolls Royce, stepping out like a lavish Bill Gates. The flock of people crowding around the new wheels just to catch a glimpse. Instead, people walk briskly past your car to distance themselves from the smell of burning oil and the squeaking the tranny makes anytime you shift to park. But back to the dream car, the embodiment of fancy, adorning a leather interior, unnecessary interior lights, top of the line dash clusters and head unit gadgets. You look down and see your car is outfitted with an interior resembling a 1640's tavern. Seats stuffed with a frightening combination of feathers and hay, interior lights so dim you can't see the pedals in the dark and worst of all, the dash. The tachometer, idling dangerously close to 3, spikes randomly if you go over 45. As we move over, we meet the fuel gage, hovering ever so close to the dreaded E. Does your car know what a full tank of gas is like or only what $5 gets you? But hey, I'm sure that's enough to get to school, right? You know what light that is, but if you don't look maybe it will go away. A strange box with the word "CHECK" inside. It could be anything from a faulty light, to a blown head gasket, but that's not important cause you're not fixing it regardless. Before you try to find how this section of "Atavism" by John Myers O'Hara, relates to the theme of The Call of the Wild, you must understand the words used. "Nomadic" means moving around and not staying in one place. O'Hara uses these words in a weird order, because it seems like it should say that your nomadic longings are leaping. The first line of this epigraph says that if you stay in one place for a long time, your instincts (old longings from ancestors) to move from place to place (to be nomadic) are going to flare up. "Chafing" means to cause annoyance. By using the phrase "Chafing at custom's chain" O'Hara means that you are being annoyed by traditional ways. "Custom's chain" refers to these traditional ways. Therefore the feelings to want to become nomadic are clashing with the feelings of following tradition's ways. "Brumal" means wintry. O'Hara is using this as a metaphor with the direct meaning being waking up from winter hibernation, but the deeper meaning is the realization or awakening of the need to break away from traditional ways. "Ferine" means wild and "strain" in this case means type. When O'Hara uses ferine as an adjective to describe strain, he is referring to the wild side we each have due to our natural instincts. He ascended from his hiding spot as a rush of wind gained the attention of his prey that was caused by his less than magnificent wings. The youngling let out a horrific screech that terrified the villagers. One froze with fear, the other in terror ran for his life. • 37. How Is Eric Harris Related To Columbine Shooting Why did Eric and Dylan do it? What made the two even consider the columbine massacre? Dylan Klebold was a depressant. He felt as if people in the school had left him out, as if he wasn't important enough for them. Dylan killed because he was in the state of mind that he did not matter to anyone or anything, as if he was useless and he wanted attention for once. He had succeeded at getting his attention. Dylan was hotheaded, but depressive and suicidal. Dylan would have never pulled off the Columbine massacre without Eric. "Eric was not a depressive, like Dylan, that was for sure." (196) Eric Harris was a psychopath. Eric found joy out of violence and didn't care who he hurt. He had no regrets over hurting people. Eric was sweet–faced and well spoken, like many other manipulative psychopaths. Adults, and even most kids would describe Harris as "nice." Harris was actually cold, calculating, and homicidal. Harris was not merely a troubled kid, but psychiatrists say, he was a psychopath. Harris has a private journal, it opened with "I hate the f***ing world." Harris's hatred supposedly led him to revenge. This all make look like hate in Eric's eyes, but really it was more about demanding other people. Gray2... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. Persuasive Essay The stereotype of women making decisions that are extremely selfish are initially for there self beneficence in this movie as it eventually leads to selfish behaviour and self destruction. The selfish behaviour occurs when Elsa Schneider took the grail and got all possessive over it like it's all hers and executes like there will be no aftermath to her actions because there is no one superior than her. When Elsa Schneider took the grail and verbally expressed "We have got it, come on! It's ours Indiana, yours and mine" (Steven Spielberg). Elsa knew she couldn't take the grail past the seal but she did it because she did not perceive the consequences but rather the benefit, all because of the stereotypical selfish behaviour of women. The moment when Dr Elsa Schneider took the grail and said "We have got it, come on! It's ours Indiana, yours and mine"(Steven Spielberg), shows the how feminist attributes of females such as selfish decisions was shown in this scene. When the words were spoken, the shining gaze in Elsa's eyes clearly shows how everything she was doing to get the grail was for her own benefit clearly making it a selfish decision. The grail was clearly not only hers and she was not suppose to cross the seal but then again, self benefitting decisions always lead to negative events and negative impressions on the character. Women are usually seen as making decisions that either hurt others or are only benefiting them as this is exceptionally shown in this scene as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this year there have been quit a few Action Adventure movie hits, such the widely anticipated movie "Dead pool." Dead pool is a movie about a dark humored mercenary who is subjected to an experiment that mutates his genes, giving him powers and a thirst for revenge. Dead pool ended up setting records for the biggest opening for a movie in February, as well as the biggest opening for an R–rated movie, ever. As one can tell, it was a rather successful movie. It begs the question, why did such a movie work for the audience? Deadpool had a couple of things going for it to make it work. Things such as it's R–rating, it's marvel and comic book origins, it's humor, and as well as it's fan base. These things combined produced the perfect cocktail for audiences. • 40. The Heart Reserves A Special Place For Music The heart reserves a special place for music. To many, music is more than a melody or a combination of sounds pulsating in ears; it brings out emotions, memories, and shared vibes. Whether a person is an avid listener or casually listens to music, everyone has a few specific albums that laid a foundation for the music they currently enjoy. Recently, I have rediscovered one of these albums,Madvillainy, when putting my old playlist on shuffle. The album consists of Daniel Dumile, the album's MC (rapper) who goes by many aliases, but most commonly as MF Doom, and Otis Jackson Jr., or Madlib. The underground hip–hop album was released in 2004 and is now considered a classic by many. The album's 22 tracks consist of skits, instrumentals, and rapping with most tracks around two minutes long. Madvillainy has proven to me to be a masterpiece and a consistently good listen. One of the qualities that set Madvillainy apart from its peers, is the superb production performance given by Madlib. The album's production is magnificent, even to Pitchfork standards, saying, "the samples are smart and never played–out, and the production and rhymes reveal a determined sense of cooperation, as Doom spouts off his most brilliant lyrical change–ups and production–conscious playoffs" (Pemberton). Like stated in Pitchfork, the production works cohesively with MF Doom's rapping. For example, on the song "Meat Grinder", the beat alone seems quirky, sounding like it belongs in an episode of Spongebob, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Death In Mary Oliver's Sleeping In The Forest Mary Oliver's poem, "Sleeping in the Forest," presents a peaceful and vivid representation of death and its relationship with nature. As the poem begins, the reader is introduced to the earth welcoming the speaker back into the realm of nature. Man was created from the dust of the earth and when we die, our bodies return to the dust. However, this poem presents a more beautiful image of what death is composed of. Death is often portrayed as being frightening and disturbing. When individuals are presented with the thought of death, they often push this thought away out of fear and ignorance. Everyone will die someday whether we ignore the thought of death or not. However, Oliver creates a relaxing and welcoming image for the reader on what death (ideally) is. Obviously, since Oliver is still alive, she doesn't know what death feels like. However, the way she describes death, I hope that it feels like sleeping in a forest; full of stars and enchantment. The enchantment in this poem begins by the earth welcoming the speaker back home. This speaker expresses that, "She took me back so tenderly." This statement exemplifies to the reader that death is not a scary process. In this case, the earth is being portrayed as a woman. This is significant because women are often portrayed as being nurturing and caring. For the reader, this can trigger memories or ideas of who the reader would picture the earth as. Whether that be a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, etc. the reader can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Words In Ernestingway's Cat In The Rain By Ernest Hemingway The words an author uses in his or her writing are the portal to understanding the story and its meaning. The fewer the words, the more the reader has to infer about the aspects of the story. In much of Ernest Hemingway's writing, words are scarce and, therefore, much more valuable. His inclusion of minute details, like describing the world around him and what he sees, adds vital information to the story. In order for the reader to better comprehend the story, Hemingway introduces the reader to various animals in his writings. The importance of the animals and what they represent in Hemingway's writing make up for the lack of details of his minimalist writing style. The kitten in the short story Cat in the Rain represents the American woman's desires. Throughout the story, the reader readily concludes that the marriage between George, the husband, and his wife, whose name is not given, is not a healthy relationship. Moreover, if one did not pick up on the corrupt nature of the marriage, the weather indicates a dark and gloomy mood, as it is raining. A small kitten protected by the top of a table catches the eye of the American wife, who exclaims numerous times that she "wants a kitty". When George fails to acknowledge her desires, she insists that "It's not any fun to be a poor kitty out in the rain" (Hemingway ##). While the woman is talking about the kitten, on the surface, she is also referring to herself. The cat in the rain is the perfect representation of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
