13. Invasions of Privacy
๏ Inappropriate use of smart phones, cameras, imaging,
or digital devices is prohibited.
๏ Although most Scouts and leaders use cameras and
other imaging devices responsibly, it is easy to
unintentionally or inadvertently invade the privacy of
other individuals with such devices.
๏ The use of any device capable of recording or
transmitting visual images in or near shower houses,
restrooms, or other areas where privacy is expected is
inappropriate.
14. Invasions of Privacy
๏ Having and enforcing BSA policies on the use of
cellphones, tablets, and cameras can do a lot to help
prevent the invasion of others’ privacy.
๏ As a part of those policies, electronic devices should
never be allowed in restrooms or any other places
where privacy is expected.
15. Areas of Concern:
๏ Youth taking inappropriate pictures of themselves,
other Scouts, and staff
๏ Permanency and worldwide availability of images
uploaded to the internet
๏ Possibility of uploaded images leading to
embarrassment, extortion, and sextortion
17. Safety Guidelines
• Have 2-deep leadership running the page
• Turn off messaging. No private messages.
• No names – no image tagging of parents or kids, even by
the parents
• Must be monitored
• Do you have photos from past events? Make albums!
34. Impact of Light and Motion
on Focus
๏ If you’re shooting a lot of motion, pay close attention to
both the amount of light as well as the quality of light
๏ The less light that’s available, the larger an aperture
you’ll have to use in order to record a properly exposed
image.
๏ This means that your depth of field will decrease and it
will be much harder to keep your subject in focus.
๏ If you or your subject are moving, it get’s even more
tricky
35.
36. The Window
๏ Imagine your camera is a window with shutters that open
and close.
๏ Aperture is the size of the window. If it’s bigger more light
gets through.
๏ Shutter Speed is the amount of time that the shutters are
open. The longer they’re open, the more that comes in.
๏ Inside the room and are wearing sunglasses. Your eyes
become desensitized to the light that comes in (like a low
ISO).
37.
38. Aperture (ƒ/stops)
๏ Aperture controls the size of the opening in the lens
๏ ƒ/stop is the measurement of the size of the aperture
๏ The higher the ƒ/stop number, the smaller the aperture
opening
๏ ƒ/1.4 is an “open” stop which lets in more light
๏ ƒ/16 is a “closed” stop which lets in less light
39.
40. Depth-of-Field = Amount in Focus
Smaller ƒ/stop = Less Depth-of-Field (less in focus)
Larger ƒ/stop = More Depth-of-Field (more in focus)
Aperture = f/4.0. DOF=2.2 cm Aperture = f/22. DOF=12.4 cm
45. Shutter Speed
๏ The camera shutter controls how long light enters the
camera.
๏ A fast shutter speed is 1/1000 of a second; can stop
action
๏ A slow shutter speed is 1/2 of a second; can blur action
๏ Slow shutters are also used for astro photography
46.
47. ISO
๏ ISO affects a camera’s sensitivity to light
๏ The higher the ISO, the less light is needed
๏ Higher ISO settings can increase image noise
