Reflective Essay On Personal Skills
felt relieved to be able to practice the new skills I had read about, and to practice them in a setting
with other adults to ensure I had practice and understanding of facilitator skills (Macgowan, 2012).
While running group at my internship, I try to use this same practice in the group setting, especially
when I touch base with my students in the morning. I work in a high school classroom, and each day
a portion of the time is allowing the kids to talk about topics and practice their social skills. The
students always seem to enjoy sharing about the events that unfolded the night before, and after
some time, will hopefully be more open to sharing more about their lives as the school year goes
on. This year, I have two students who I did not have last year. I have one student who wants to
tell me more about his magic acts and his interest in kayaking in the nearby areas, and in return
asks me about my interest or asking me how I think a magic trick is performed. I have yet to see
the students ask their peers on their own time about what was discussed in group the day before, but
it is a skill I am hoping to see develop in the next couple months as the teacher and myself practice
these behaviors in front of the students. Macgowan (2012) mentions that there is not a definitive
measuring tool to gauge how well graduating students are obtaining and understanding being a
facilitator in a group. Some students have not had enough practice to develop goals, how to facilitate

Critical Analysis: MLA Format
Critical Analysis
For the past week we have been learning about critical analysis essays. Before coming to
composition I didn't know much about critical analysis essays, I knew they were conducted in
MLA Format and they were basically a comparison between two books. After learning more in class
I was informed more in–depth about critical analysis essays. In class we were taught that critical
analysis essays are to essentially be a comparison between articles, books, and or anything else to
help the reader better understand the work. Critical analysis essays are to incorporate a thesis
statement to give readers something to engage in when reading your essay, it gives some idea of
what this essay is going to be about. When constructing a

English 1301 Reflection
With the anxiety flowing throughout my body, I knew the time was near of facing my English
1301 class. Being told that I needed to improve my writing during my grade school days, I knew
that I didn't feel at ease going into a college level English class. But, with this in mind I had to pull
myself together to encounter the challenges that I will face. However, having the privilege of
having an amazing professor I believe my writing skills improved, also I was able to find my
confidence.
Being a quiet person, I never said what's in my mind, also being afraid of asking the wrong thing I
always kept to myself. This was definitely a disadvantage for me. But knowing the person who I am

MLA Paper: Annotated Bibliography
When writing A MLA paper will be typed using 12 font–Time New Roman. This paper should be
double spaced. Then, this paper should have one inch margins on all sides. When writing each
page should have a header with the writer's last name and the page number. There should not be a
title page for any of the MLA papers. A MLA paper should always have a Body paragraph. MLA
papers should also have a work cited. When reciting poems include the author's last name. When
citing an internet resource with an author include him/her in the sentence. When an author is not
listed, use a shorter version of the title. When an author is stated in the sentence, using a quote, make

APA Style Analysis
APA Style Sample
APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines.
It is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points.
APA uses parenthetical (or in–text) citations within sentences, but rather than indicating the author's
name and page number, APA includes author's name anddate of publication. The page number,
represented with a p. or a pp., is only added to the citation when using a direct quote (not a summary
or paraphrase). If the author's name is mentioned in the sentence, then place the date of publication in
parentheses directly after the name. If the name is...show more content...
All of the interviewees have been called 'exceptions to the norm' (Strong & Porter, 1998, p.
565).
Note the first example paraphrases an author that is named in the sentence, the second example
paraphrases authors that are not named in the sentence, and the third example provides a direct
quote (thus the inclusion of the page numbers) but also does not identify the authors within the
sentence. If the authors were identified within the sentence in the third example, the authors' names
would be followed by the year of publication and only the page numbers would be in the parentheses
at the end of the quote.
Finally, the bibliographic page in APA style differs from MLA, what APA calls the Reference page.
You will notice a few immediate differences from the MLA Works Cited format. With APA you
include the initial of the author's first name rather than the complete name, the publication date
immediately follows the author's name in parentheses, and titles of articles are not surrounded with
quotation marks (however titles of books, magazines, journals, etc are still underlined). The lists are
still alphabetized by author's last name (or title in the absence of an author) and the first line is flush
left while subsequent lines in the same entry are indented in (approximately 5 spaces or one tab). For
journals and magazines, publication title and volume number are both underlined,

MLA Format Research Paper
The MLA Format gives students a standard on which to write on. Students are expected to write
in such a way that it is professional and informative. A person would not expect to get a job if he
showed up to the interview in shorts and a tee shirt, because they would not have the professional
appearance for an employer to think highly of them. If a paper is written in the incorrect format,
than the person reviewing the paper will not feel that the paper is creditable or they would feel the
writer just did not put in the effort. MLA formatting makes papers fit a uniformed look. With
academic paper being formatted the same way, the paper becomes more comprehensible. Citations
that are formatted the same can be more easily matched up with their

English 1301 Reflection
My attitude going into English 1301 was excitement at first. When I was in high school I took
English and when I would turn in my essays I would get an "A" on every essay. The second week of
English 1301 was when my instructor assigned me my first essay. This essay was to explain my
composing process. At first I had no idea that I even had a process for composing an essay. I had
never really thought about it. Then the instructor said that it had to be in APA format, 12 point
font, and Times New Roman. This was all very new to me because in high school my teacher did
not require me to do this. Throughout this essay you will see the changes of my composing
process, the impact this class has had on me, and how I feel about my improvement. My
composing process changed throughout the semester because I felt that my old process was not
good enough. Therefore, I decided to walk into my house one day and sit down and begin to do
homework. In doing this I paid close attention to every step I took from beginning to the end of
my essay. A few things that I have added into my composing process was an outline and going to
a public area where no one knows me or wants to talk to me. Throughout this course, I have
realized that if I am around other students that are working on homework, I am able to buckle
down and get my work done too. However, if I am in a public area such as the Student Center at
TSTC, I am unable to focus because people come up to me and start talking to me which takes

Part 1: MLA In–text Citations – Rewrite the last line of each quote with a correctly formatted MLA
in–text citation.
1. "One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture–a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell
upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees–very gradually–I made up my mind to take the life
of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever."
This is from the text book, Great Writing, which was edited by Harvey S. Wiener and Nora
Eisenberg. It comes from the first page of the short story by Edgar Allan Poe called The Tell–Tale
Heart. The story starts on page 108 and ends on page 111. The book was published by Mc Graw Hill
in Boston in the year 2009.

The Current Mla Format And Guidelines
Mrs. Pruitt's Research Paper Guide Paper Requirements The length of the research paper must be no
less than 1,500–words and no more than 2,500–words. The 2,500–word limit does not apply to notes
or to the annotated bibliography. In–text citations are required. If your sources are not
acknowledged, your paper will receive a zero and will be required to be rewritten for a lower
grade because this is considered plagiarism. No more than five quotations are allowed in your
paper. The research paper must follow the current MLA format and guidelines to pass. See chart
below on how to properly format your paper. Separation of Primary and Secondary Sources are
required. Separate your bibliography into two sections: one for primary sources and one for
secondary sources. Some sources may be considered either primary or secondary so use your
annotations to explain your reason for classifying any sources that are not clearly primary or
secondary. Listing a source under both primary and secondary is not allowed. Each component of
the research paper will be assigned a grade and each component will then become part of the
research paper 's culminating final grade. Grading This grade is calculated to include the
component parts of the paper along with the final product. The research paper is worth 20% of the
final grade.  Topic Chosen–100 points  Brainstorm and Detailed Outline–100 points 

Abortion
In 2008, twelve women taking resident in the U.S. died due to legal abortions performed during the
second or third trimesters of pregnancy. Abortion should be available to all females living in the
United States, but must be a legal citizen to have late abortions, which are during the second or third
trimesters of pregnancy. Abortion is a right that women have, and the Fourth Amendment "Search
and Seizure" supports it. Fewer women will exercise abortion if it is kept legal in the U.S. Late
abortions are dangerous, so only legal citizens of the U.S. may have second or third trimester
abortions. In the 1820's, various ideas against abortions began...show more content...
Many CPCs (Crisis Pregnancy Centers) mislead women into thinking that abortions cause breast
cancer, that birth–control pills cause abortions, and that abortion can lead to sterility. CPCs do
anything to talk a woman out of having a legal abortion. Late abortions are performed during the
second or third trimesters. A method of late abortion is a saline injection. This is when a needle is

Reflective Essay On Summer Reading
In my Summer Reading Essay, I see many skills I could improve on and many things that I need to
continue in further essays. The first thing I struggled with was MLA format, specifically the
heading, and the header. So while writing this essay, I took another try at completing the heading,
and header. When rewriting my essay, I will double check to make sure I include the proper format; I
can access the format by looking it up on the internet. Another thing I struggled with, was the simple
formatting techniques including underlining the title of the novel, and center the title of the paper. I
practiced centering the title when writing this reflection piece, and I can score better on my next
essay on this formating by remembering to check formating,

What I Learned In Mla Format
Reflection Essay
Throughout this semester I have learned many valuable resources, and tools. The big thing you
taught us was how to write and argument paper. Also I have learned different tools on
summarizing, how to better my skills for peer reviews, new library skills, and MLA format. Most of
these I already knew, but you taught us them more in depth, and you gave me better understandings
of them. With writing an argumentative paper, it's important to have all the right facts, and make
sure you have reliable sources. If you don't have the right facts or reliable sources nobody will
want to read your argument; because you wont have the right facts to back up your points. When
writing an argumentative paper, its good to know all the facts about each side. Knowing all the facts
about each side is important, because people want to read...show more content...
Like summarizing, and writing an essay I knew how to do it, but going in and listening to the
speaker explain it to us helped a lot. I learned more on how to use the thesaurus, and all the different
skills he taught us on using key words to looks information up.
MLA format is something I have always kind of needed help with. Until this semester for some
reason I could never really cite my sources that well. Its something I knew how to do, but when it
came time to do it my mind went blank. When you went over everything on the bored that helped
me so much (also because I took notes), but only because you told us to take them. With MLA
format I learned that when quoting, if its more than three lines you have to use block quote. I didn't
know that till I got to this class.
In summary, all these skills will be helpful for my next few college years, and when I go off to get
jobs. Thank you for teaching us everything you have. From something you are supposed to teach to
common sense things. You are a wonderful teacher, and I'm so glad you were my

English 1302 Reflection
My experience in summer school, English 1302, allowed me to strengthen my writing skills by
applying them to essays and real life. English 1302 taught me many useful writing techniques like
the proper MLA format, how to cite excerpts throughout an essay, and how to avoid grammar
mistakes. In this fast paced class we did a total of three major essays, my strongest most effective
essay was, the proposal. Since I was not used to writing proposals I found it difficult to begin, but
with the help of Mrs. Kane and the handy everything's an agreement textbook I was able to deliver
my essay effectively. I improved most when Mrs. Kane explained how to properly deliver this essay
with the correct MLA formatting, reading the text book, and drafting/revising.
Since MLA formatting is used in academic papers it is important for me to learn how to do it
properly. It was difficult...show more content...
Kane would mark through my essays where my grammar lacked, and I corrected those errors as I
did more writing. Drafting and revising allowed me to see different perspectives of writing that I
can include in my essay in order to lengthen it and for it to be academic. I tended to write in first
person in my body paragraphs which was a major error, but I corrected that after seeing the notes
that were on my revision sheet. Grammar mistakes weaken your essay since, you lose the reader
of how the essay is supposed to flow, and I revised my common mistakes and avoided them
throughout my essays in order to keep the reader engaged. What also helped me to write this
essay was the textbook, everything's an argument I would read the about the topic we were on,
view samples of essays and I got a hint of how the essay should be. These strategies improved my
writing whereas when I began this class my writing was weak and unclear and now that I'm
approaching the end of this class my writing is on a college level scale and this will help me in my

Compare And Contrast Apa And Mla Format
The different types of formatting I had to learn in college is getting out of hand. The all of the
different formats are loosely connected. The MLA format and endnotes are very similar in that
they are found at end of a paper, but you do not give put the author last name and page number
after it. I choose to use footnotes, because my laptop cannot decide what it wants to do. Another
difference is the lack of putting your last name before the page number in the header, but is similar
is APA Format. As you can tell I wrote off the script, because the paragraph was so lackluster. The
front, size of the front, the title located in the middle, and the front should stay in normal style. If I
had footnote after every single sentence, did even

MLA Rough Draft
1.When writing, whether you paraphrase or directly quote someone else's ideas anywhere in your
paper, you must document the use of those borrowed ideas with an internal citation notation. In
MLA, there are two basic features of an internal citation. What are they?
In–text citation – This is a parenthetical citation within the paper that refers the reader to a list of
works cited. It commonly includes the author of the source and a page number, and punctuation
separates the author's last name and the page number. Nor is the abbreviation p. (for "page") used.
The period that ends the sentence appears after the closing parenthesis. 2.In MLA, if you work
(include) the identity of the source into the sentence structure, where do page numbers...show more
content...
In MLA, how are the works cited entries organized on the Work(s) Cited page?
пѓ Tell me how to arrange a works cited list on the page. No example required.
пЃ¶Create a new page at the end of your paper for a "Works Cited" list. Center the words "Works
Cited" at the top of the page. Double space after the title and begin entering citations.
пЃ¶Entries are listed alphabetically by the last name of the author or by the first major word of the
title if no author is given. If a source has more than one author, it is alphabetized by the last name of
the author whose name appears first. The entries are not numbered.
пЃ¶Entries are double–spaced.
пЃ¶The first line of each entry begins at the left margin. If more than one line is needed to complete
the entry, additional lines are indented five spaces or half an inch (this is called a hanging indent).
6.In MLA, if the source's identity is not worked into (written as part of) your sentence structure, how
does the internal citation look the first time you create it? Use your last name and page number 123
to illustrate your answer.
To correctly answer question 6, show me (don't tell me) how an internal citation looks the first time
you cite it in your paper, using your name as the source and page number 123 to complete your
response. You don't need to write a sentence first, just show me the

Case Study: Purdue Owl
My third area of choice is essay organization. I have written many essays in my school years, but I
notice my organization of the body paragraphs may get confusing or mixed up. I even made a
paragraph with two different topics put together and cause a confusing to my essay. If I want to
improve on my writing, I need to know what I am doing wrong, and what can I do to fix it. I did
some research on essay organization and found numerous reliable sites on how to structure an essay
properly. However, I prefer Purdue Owl since it feels more trustworthy than the other sites.
According to Purdue Owl, in order to make an effective essay, my organization needs to have the
basics, introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion. In the introductory paragraph,

MLA Style Vs APA Style Analysis
MLA style is widely used in humanities fields, whereas APA style is commonly used in social
science fields. Throughout your paper you will use citations when using another person's work.
MLA style documents the last name of the author's as well as the page number of where the cited
information is found in the physical text. In contrast, APA style documents the author's last name
and the year the source document was published in the physical text, these are called in–text
citations. Both styles will have a full list of references, although MLA style citations will be listed as
"Works Cited" and APA styles will be listed as "References" at the end of the paper. As long as the
author and title are included, MLA style doesn't require a URL

Mla Reflection
This year was to be my fourth year in a row attending MLA. I spoke in 2006, interviewed for jobs
in 2007, spoke and interviewed in 2008, and had hoped to speak and interview for jobs this year as
well. When the job interviews did not materialize, I made the difficult decision to not attend the
convention given the financial realities of being an adjunct faculty member. I regretted not having
the chance to speak–especially on a panel titled "Today's Teachers, Today's Students:
Economics"–but the panel chair volunteered to deliver my paper in absentia. I'm sorry that I can't
be delivering these comments in person, and I thank Professor Cavanagh for her willingness to read
them on my behalf. Hearing talks delivered by the person who did not write

Compare And Contrast Mla And Apa
Also, many professors only teach us MLA style, but this class can teach us two types of essay,
MLA and APA. I think that's great because APA also is popular, it's useful for us to know these
two types of essays. And from this class, I also learned that when we are writing causal
assignment, the most important reason should list at the last of all reasons rather than at the first
position. At last, I have some suggestions about REVEL. I tried to do the quiz on the revel but the
website said the quiz has not been assigned. However, I used it on my society class in the first
semester. So I have some thoughts about it. Frankly, I don't think revel suits for our class, especially
the quiz. The quiz always focuses on the contents in the text book,

  • 1. Reflective Essay On Personal Skills felt relieved to be able to practice the new skills I had read about, and to practice them in a setting with other adults to ensure I had practice and understanding of facilitator skills (Macgowan, 2012). While running group at my internship, I try to use this same practice in the group setting, especially when I touch base with my students in the morning. I work in a high school classroom, and each day a portion of the time is allowing the kids to talk about topics and practice their social skills. The students always seem to enjoy sharing about the events that unfolded the night before, and after some time, will hopefully be more open to sharing more about their lives as the school year goes on. This year, I have two students who I did not have last year. I have one student who wants to tell me more about his magic acts and his interest in kayaking in the nearby areas, and in return asks me about my interest or asking me how I think a magic trick is performed. I have yet to see the students ask their peers on their own time about what was discussed in group the day before, but it is a skill I am hoping to see develop in the next couple months as the teacher and myself practice these behaviors in front of the students. Macgowan (2012) mentions that there is not a definitive measuring tool to gauge how well graduating students are obtaining and understanding being a facilitator in a group. Some students have not had enough practice to develop goals, how to facilitate Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Critical Analysis: MLA Format Critical Analysis For the past week we have been learning about critical analysis essays. Before coming to composition I didn't know much about critical analysis essays, I knew they were conducted in MLA Format and they were basically a comparison between two books. After learning more in class I was informed more in–depth about critical analysis essays. In class we were taught that critical analysis essays are to essentially be a comparison between articles, books, and or anything else to help the reader better understand the work. Critical analysis essays are to incorporate a thesis statement to give readers something to engage in when reading your essay, it gives some idea of what this essay is going to be about. • 3. English 1301 Reflection With the anxiety flowing throughout my body, I knew the time was near of facing my English 1301 class. Being told that I needed to improve my writing during my grade school days, I knew that I didn't feel at ease going into a college level English class. But, with this in mind I had to pull myself together to encounter the challenges that I will face. However, having the privilege of having an amazing professor I believe my writing skills improved, also I was able to find my confidence. Being a quiet person, I never said what's in my mind, also being afraid of asking the wrong thing I always kept to myself. This was definitely a disadvantage for me. But knowing the person who I am I made sure to attend class, take notes, and pay attention Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. MLA Paper: Annotated Bibliography When writing A MLA paper will be typed using 12 font–Time New Roman. This paper should be double spaced. Then, this paper should have one inch margins on all sides. When writing each page should have a header with the writer's last name and the page number. There should not be a title page for any of the MLA papers. A MLA paper should always have a Body paragraph. MLA papers should also have a work cited. When reciting poems include the author's last name. When citing an internet resource with an author include him/her in the sentence. When an author is not listed, use a shorter version of the title. • 5. APA Style Analysis APA Style Sample APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines. It is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points. APA uses parenthetical (or in–text) citations within sentences, but rather than indicating the author's name and page number, APA includes author's name anddate of publication. The page number, represented with a p. or a pp., is only added to the citation when using a direct quote (not a summary or paraphrase). If the author's name is mentioned in the sentence, then place the date of publication in parentheses directly after the name. If the name is...show more content... All of the interviewees have been called 'exceptions to the norm' (Strong & Porter, 1998, p. 565). Note the first example paraphrases an author that is named in the sentence, the second example paraphrases authors that are not named in the sentence, and the third example provides a direct quote (thus the inclusion of the page numbers) but also does not identify the authors within the sentence. If the authors were identified within the sentence in the third example, the authors' names would be followed by the year of publication and only the page numbers would be in the parentheses at the end of the quote. Finally, the bibliographic page in APA style differs from MLA, what APA calls the Reference page. You will notice a few immediate differences from the MLA Works Cited format. With APA you include the initial of the author's first name rather than the complete name, the publication date immediately follows the author's name in parentheses, and titles of articles are not surrounded with quotation marks (however titles of books, magazines, journals, etc are still underlined). The lists are still alphabetized by author's last name (or title in the absence of an author) and the first line is flush left while subsequent lines in the same entry are indented in (approximately 5 spaces or one tab). For journals and magazines, publication title and volume number are both underlined, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 7. MLA Format Research Paper The MLA Format gives students a standard on which to write on. Students are expected to write in such a way that it is professional and informative. A person would not expect to get a job if he showed up to the interview in shorts and a tee shirt, because they would not have the professional appearance for an employer to think highly of them. If a paper is written in the incorrect format, than the person reviewing the paper will not feel that the paper is creditable or they would feel the writer just did not put in the effort. MLA formatting makes papers fit a uniformed look. With academic paper being formatted the same way, the paper becomes more comprehensible. • 8. English 1301 Reflection My attitude going into English 1301 was excitement at first. When I was in high school I took English and when I would turn in my essays I would get an "A" on every essay. The second week of English 1301 was when my instructor assigned me my first essay. This essay was to explain my composing process. At first I had no idea that I even had a process for composing an essay. I had never really thought about it. Then the instructor said that it had to be in APA format, 12 point font, and Times New Roman. This was all very new to me because in high school my teacher did not require me to do this. Throughout this essay you will see the changes of my composing process, the impact this class has had on me, and how I feel about my improvement. My composing process changed throughout the semester because I felt that my old process was not good enough. Therefore, I decided to walk into my house one day and sit down and begin to do homework. In doing this I paid close attention to every step I took from beginning to the end of my essay. A few things that I have added into my composing process was an outline and going to a public area where no one knows me or wants to talk to me. Throughout this course, I have realized that if I am around other students that are working on homework, I am able to buckle down and get my work done too. However, if I am in a public area such as the Student Center at TSTC, I am unable to focus because people come up to me and start talking to me which takes Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The 2,500–word limit does not apply to notes or to the annotated bibliography. In–text citations are required. If your sources are not acknowledged, your paper will receive a zero and will be required to be rewritten for a lower grade because this is considered plagiarism. No more than five quotations are allowed in your paper. The research paper must follow the current MLA format and guidelines to pass. See chart below on how to properly format your paper. Separation of Primary and Secondary Sources are required. Separate your bibliography into two sections: one for primary sources and one for secondary sources. Some sources may be considered either primary or secondary so use your annotations to explain your reason for classifying any sources that are not clearly primary or secondary. Listing a source under both primary and secondary is not allowed. Each component of the research paper will be assigned a grade and each component will then become part of the research paper 's culminating final grade. Also I have learned different tools on summarizing, how to better my skills for peer reviews, new library skills, and MLA format. Most of these I already knew, but you taught us them more in depth, and you gave me better understandings of them. With writing an argumentative paper, it's important to have all the right facts, and make sure you have reliable sources. If you don't have the right facts or reliable sources nobody will want to read your argument; because you wont have the right facts to back up your points. English 1302 taught me many useful writing techniques like the proper MLA format, how to cite excerpts throughout an essay, and how to avoid grammar mistakes. In this fast paced class we did a total of three major essays, my strongest most effective essay was, the proposal. Since I was not used to writing proposals I found it difficult to begin, but with the help of Mrs. Kane and the handy everything's an agreement textbook I was able to deliver my essay effectively. Kane would mark through my essays where my grammar lacked, and I corrected those errors as I did more writing. Drafting and revising allowed me to see different perspectives of writing that I can include in my essay in order to lengthen it and for it to be academic. I tended to write in first person in my body paragraphs which was a major error, but I corrected that after seeing the notes that were on my revision sheet. Grammar mistakes weaken your essay since, you lose the reader of how the essay is supposed to flow, and I revised my common mistakes and avoided them throughout my essays in order to keep the reader engaged. What also helped me to write this essay was the textbook, everything's an argument I would read the about the topic we were on, view samples of essays and I got a hint of how the essay should be. These strategies improved my writing whereas when I began this class my writing was weak and unclear and now that I'm approaching the end of this class my writing is on a college level scale and this will help me in my Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Throughout your paper you will use citations when using another person's work. MLA style documents the last name of the author's as well as the page number of where the cited information is found in the physical text. In contrast, APA style documents the author's last name and the year the source document was published in the physical text, these are called in–text citations.
