Why do you think American audiences responded to War Of The Worlds like
they did? Think about the casting of Tom Cruise, the film’s location and time
of release.
Do you think the contemporary remake of War Of The Worlds would have
been popular or successful without the events of 9/11?
I think the American audience reacted how they did because of 9/11, they could
relate to the fear of being took over and being under fear. The reason they
casted Tom Cruise is because he is a big actor and needed his name to help sell
the film and don’t think the film would have been as successful without casting
Tom Cruise. The film is released only 4 years after 9/11 and is set in Boston,
USA.
I don’t think the film would have been as popular without the events on 9/11,
because Americans didn’t feel safe after 9/11 and felt they were always at risk
of attack and the film portrays the attack as pre planned and that the attackers
where already there so the Americans could relate.
2. How do you feel about American Producers using 9/11 as a thematic device
in film? Can it be justified?
I don’t think it was a bad think they used the fear of 9/11 to help sell the film
and put fear into people watching the film because eventually someone would
of made a film about the events of 9/11 and the War Of The Worlds doesn’t
directly use 9/11 as a story for the film it more uses it for the fear of attack
Americans had at the time.
