Essay on Diversity in Education
Like it or not, there has always been diversity among students in the classroom. It is the fact that each
and every student is unique. From every circumstance, students bring a varying set of values,
perspectives, and beliefs to the learning environment. Understanding the character of students is
important in order to become a competent teacher. In fact, teachers should be aware and recognize
students, as unique individuals, all acquire information differently than others. Some of these
differences are due to developmental variations in cognitive, physical, intellectual, moral, emotional,
and social changes caused by maturation and experience. And this reality of classroom conditions
makes instruction much more challenging for teachers and...show more content...
Among their interest in the education of ethnic–minority Deaf college students, they are best known
for their notable achievements in addressing various aspects in education of the Deaf. For
example, Dr. Ila Parasnis has not only published and presented her works at different conferences
but she has also edited several books on cultural identity and diversity in Deaf Education. As for Dr.
Susan D. Fischer's accomplishments, it mainly lies in the publication of 28 different citations in
several journals as well as chapters in books that relate to the cultural diversity for deaf education
(Author Detail). With all this in mind, it is clear that these professors have studied and gained
in–depth knowledge for many years about the field of Deaf Education that they are able to speak
about issues relating to the field as authoritative and credible figures.
Now, the authors have stated three main points in this article regarding improvements to the
education of ethnic–minority Deaf college students. First, the authors emphasize the importance of
diversity in the work force so that students can make their own decisions in choosing their own role
models. This article states that "role models are both essential and critical. They serve several
purposes: (1) We talk about the importance of cultural diversity, but having that kind of
representation on campus demonstrates a real commitment on

Diversity in the Classroom Essay
Diversity in classrooms can open student's minds to all the world has to offer. At times diversity and
understanding of culture, deviant experiences and perspectives can be difficult to fulfill, but with
appropriate strategies and resources, it can lead students gaining a high level of respect for those
unlike them, preferably than a judgmental and prejudiced view. Diversity has broad ranges of
spectrums. Students from all across the continent; students from political refugees, indigenous
Americans, and immigrants bring their culture and linguistic skills to American classrooms. Students
do not only bring their cultures and linguistic skills, but they bring their ethnics, talents, and skills. In
addition, their age and gender are two...show more content...
Every student and teacher has a cultural identity. Their cultural identity is defined by their beliefs,
values and behaviors. Their cultures can be different among others, which creates diversity.
Classrooms full of students and teachers with different backgrounds can be beneficial for students
and teachers themselves. By exploring and accepting many differences and cultures of people among
them, they are taught to understand cultural differences, they from a strong sense of their own
cultural identity. Once students and teachers are aware of cultural differences, they become aware of
racism and can fight to eradiate it. Through their unbiased understanding of the differences between
cultures and races, they are able to come to a point of acceptance of themselves and others. If you
noticed in my previous paragraph, I mentioned the different types of diversity. Diversity emphasizes
how different students and teachers are, but when explored in a classroom, can be used to reveal our
similarities. Once students and teachers grasp the concept of diversity, displayed through everyday
interactions with diverse groups of students and teachers, racism begins to disappear. In addition,
positive sense of self can be developed once students and teachers have an understanding of their own
uniqueness through experiences and understanding of diversity. Once teachers and students

Essay on Diversity...What Is That?
What is diversity? Diversity is when you have a group of different races and cultures come together
in one setting. I think that diversity is something that everyone should be introduced to at some
point of his or her life. Diversity is a concept that has played a very important role in my life,
especially growing up in a community that wasn't very diverse and switching to a community that
school system embraced diversity to the fullest. By having diversity introduced into my life though

In class I wouldn't participle in classroom discussions and when it came to group project I would
always work by myself. One day in was in this English class my teacher had us write a paper but
we had to write about another student inside the class and we had to choose whom we had to
write about by we picking names out a hat. I had got this white girl named Jen Hicks. The next
day before class I went to my teacher to see if I can change my partner for the writing assignment.
She had asked why but I didn't want to tell her but moments later I expressed my concerns on how
I feel uncomfortable around Jen because she was different from me. My teacher said sit and told
me that there is nothing wrong with being a little different and that diversity is something that this
school embraces. She also went on to say that even though there is a physical difference between
the two we might I a lot in common, so give it a chance. When class began I was we got together
with our partners and began to collet information about each other. When Jen and I got together
there was kind of and awkward silence in the beginning but she started off my telling me that her

Diversity reflects how individuals interact with each in all areas of life experience who happen to
be different either through gender difference, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, religious
beliefs, etc. I was born and raised in Kenya, a country with diverse population comprising of native
Kenyans, Indians, Muslims, European, Asians, Americans, etc. as well as a country where there are
more than 42 different languages spoken by the population. Kenyan population is comprised of
people from different parts of the world but the most unique component of Kenyan population is the
large number of different ethnic groups who speaks different languages and portrays a different
cultural dimension. Their choice of living lifestyles, food, and religious belief identifies each group
in addition to locality of their background.
The citizens of the country have to endure more interactions with people of different background
and some who speaks a different language in their daily activities including their workplace. After
finishing my college studies back in Kenya, I moved to United States to pursue further studies and
what I have experienced is totally different than my previous life. United States is mainly comprised
of individuals from every country in the world making it a far diverse country

Essay on The Value of Diversity
Diversity, as it relates to thoughts, ideas, ethnicity, race, and a host of other areas, is the
quintessential ingredient needed to establish a free nation. Amendment I of the United States
Constitution states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the
right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of
grievances." Through this simple statement made so many years ago, the founding fathers laid down
not only the framework for the basic freedoms that Americans cherish, but also the foundation for
establishing a diverse nation. You see, without diversity, there cannot be...show more content...
People lacking in diversity education also run the risk of blindly defending their ignorance to the
detriment of others. Growing up in a one–stoplight town in the Southeastern United States, I have
oftentimes seen this ignorance first–hand, along with the physical and emotional scars it can leave
on its victims.
The best way to combat diversity ignorance is to experience a foreign culture first–hand through an
international education program. These study–abroad programs are a celebration of multiculturalism
because they immerse the participant in an uninhibited, culturally diverse environment. During the
duration of this experience, participants gain a unique perspective of the culture they are studying
that cannot be gained by just reading a book or watching a documentary. Also during the duration of
this study abroad program, participants share a piece of their own culture with those around them,
thereby creating a mutually beneficial exchange for all parties considered. Another benefit of an
international education program is that when participants return home, they spread a part of the
foreign culture that they have learned to their friends and family. It is somewhat like throwing a
rock into a pond; the initial submersion makes the biggest splash, but the ripples after the
submersion can also be seen long after and far from the rocks initial point of entry. In effect, one
person's willingness to embrace
