Adopting a Cat
Adopting a Cat Introduction About a year after my old black lab Zach a dear friend for 11 years
had to be "put down" (because he didn't have the strength to stand on his feet anymore) I knew I
wanted another pet but I had to decide what pet I would bring into the apartment next. I love
animals, and I was raised in a family that had dogs, rabbits, tropical fish, a cat and a box turtle living
on the enclosed front porch. So, after thinking it over carefully and researching issues related to cats
I have decided to bring a cat into my apartment. In fact when I lived in Wisconsin I had a great cat, a
mellow, loyal gray tabby named Eddie, who waited for me at the door when I came home each day
(like a dog in that sense), and whom I dearly loved. So, I decided to adopt a cat, and instead of
buying a cat from a pet shop or taking a baby kitty from someone's new–borne litter on Craig's List, I
have decided to adopt a cat from a animal rescue shelter. Adopting a cat or a dog from a bona fide
rescue / no–kill center is the same strategy I would recommend to friend or a brother, for several
reasons that will be described in this essay. Why Adopt a Cat? First of all, cats are far more
self–sufficient than dogs so they require a lot less direct attention from pet owners. It is well
known that dogs are lovable and make extremely loyal pets, and that some cats have a reputation for
being standoffish, whiney and even finicky about what they eat. But many cats are also very cuddly

Stylistic Analysis "Cat in the Rain"
Анализ текста "РљРѕС€Р
єР° РїРѕРґ дождем" The sample of emotive prose
which has been chosen for stylistic analysis is a short story "Cat in the rain" by Ernest
Hemingway. It has been chosen because it is suggestive and contains a definite psychological
implication. The story is interesting from the point of view of the author's approach to conveying
the main idea to the mind of the reader. It is always implicit and remains unspoken. It is the reader
himself who should find it behind the simple, at first sight, description of the events. Hemingway
presents only sequence of outward actions and leaves the reader to imagine more than the words
themselves can convey. This is characteristic of Hemingway's manner of writing he is famous for.

It is also the syntax that serves for this purpose. The author resorts to parallel constructions consisting
of short simple sentences to create a downcast atmosphere of dull, monotonous evening and at the
same time presentiment and alarming anticipation of something that is likely to happen in the
nearest time. In such deadly boring evening the american girl saw a cat in the rain. "The cat sat
under the table and tried to make herself so compact that she wouldn't be dripped on". Suddenly
the girl felt strong inexplicable desire to get this cat. May be she just pitied it. It must have been a
miserable spectacle: wet, homeless cat crouching under the table in the empty square. The girl
decided to go down and get this cat. Here the reader gets acquainted with her husband. He is lying
on the bed and reading and he has no desire to go out in such a weather for the cat his wife wants so
much. Although he proposed it but sooner out of politeness and he did not insist. "Dont get wet"– he
said, but it wasn't a care – he said it just to say something. Later the reader can see that the
hotel–keeper gives the girl more attention than her own husband. That's why she liked the owner of
the hotel so much. Emphasizing the girl's attitude to the hotel–keeper the author resorts to repetition:
"She liked the deadly serious way he received any complains. She liked his dignity. She liked the
way he

Descriptive Essay On A Cat
On February 5th, 2016 my family adopted our cat named Blair, but his story goes back much
before that time. My family has had pets before, but they have all wandered into our family and
we kept them. The first pet we sought out didn't fit our folk so we, unfortunately had to give him
up. Blair was the next pet we were searching to find and we were nervous. The idea to get a cat
was when school started and my mom, who sews at home all day, was lonely without the kids at
home with her. She started talking about all our previous kittens and soon we were on board.
During this time my mom had to go to Ohio often for her dad and we saw the perfect time to
surprise her. Unplanned that Sunday, my dad brought up the idea to go look to see if the
surrounding animal shelters had any kittens. The first two we went to didn't have any cats under
the age of 4 which wasn't our inclination. I quickly googled and found one last place to try on our
way home and that is where we found success. The shelter was filled with people socializing with
the animals and they warmly welcomed us. An employee explained to us that it was not kitten
season but all their cats were young and small. The first cat room had the older cats and they were
less active. I enjoyed playing with the cats and thought that I had picked out one that seemed
energetic. My dad recommended to go to the second room and these cats were much friendlier. My
brother and I sat and watched each cat and how they interacted for a long

Descriptive Essay About Cats
There are two types of people in this world, you're either a dog person or you're a cat person. Only
one of these is the right kind of person: a cat person! These fuzzy creatures are definitely the more
superior pet to have, and any cat owner is certain to agree. If you have never had a cat before and
are uncertain of what to do, it might seem a little overwhelming. Don't worry, once you know the
basics, you will be one step closer to becoming a fantastic cat owner. Cats are great companions to
have and it's important to know how to properly take care of a cat. In order to keep a happy and
healthy cat, you need to know how to care for him/her.
Before you can properly take care of a cat, you must own a cat. You can get a cat or kitten from a
pet store or shelter. Cats can range from many various colors and sizes. It's important that you get
the right cat for you. The second you lay your eye on the perfect cat you will know if that is the
cat for you. It should be love at first sight. When I first saw my cat I knew that I had to take her

cats.

your new pal. Usually, the name of your cat should come to you the minute you lay eyes on him or
her. If it doesn't come to you right away, don't worry, the name will come to you soon. You should
keep in mind that whatever you ultimately decide

Persuasive Essay On Cats
Cats are more than just furry friends, if you let them into your heart they become family. I have 19
years of owning plenty of cats, and I currently have four. I love my cats, they honestly are my
family. I also have two dogs and they really do need more attention than cats, a lot more. We are all
college students, and some of us desire a companion without a ton of commitment. That is where
adopting a cat comes into play. Cats even have health benefits to them, they are scientifically
proven to reduce stress and sadness, they do not need a ton of attention (although some required
and the more the better), and if you are allergic there are even hypoallergenic breeds of cats for
you. Losing a friend or family member is truly hard, yet an easy method for coping is to adopt a
pet. Felines have been proven to help individuals to get over their misfortune more rapidly, and
show less physical indications of pain, such as crying. Despite the fact that they are only animals,
cats fill in as a social help through troublesome times. Individuals in grieving report conversing
with their pet to work out their feelings, since it is easier to talk with something that won't react and
can't judge, such as another person. Another study, conducted by the University of Minnesota in
2008, revealed that owning a cat reduces stress and anxiety, thus bringing down the risk of
cardiovascular disease. In fact, the chances of having a heart attack are reduced by 40 percent if
you own a cat. Felines

Sun shines through the cracked window, highlighting the swirling dust in the air. It bounces off the
sparkling glasses and cutlery, setting the restaurant alight with sparkles. A slight breeze hits the
shimmering chandelier, sending beautiful lights around the room. Despite this, the occupants are
tense and quiet, except for a small cat, basking in the sunlight. Her ears flick back and forth despite
the relaxed demeanour. Warm daylight shines through her soft, grey fur, making it look white. With
her eyes happily closed, she emits an engine like sound, in sync with her breathing. The small
purple ribbon around her neck is frayed, and a slight ringing comes from the attached bell as it
swings.
A young girl sits nearby, shielding her eyes from the sun with one scratched hand, while the other
angrily clutches her dress. Beneath the dress, she wears several layers of alarmingly bright shirts.

Essay about My Cat
As I walk into the kitchen, I spot Kitty sprawled out on the dining table with rays of warm
sunlight striped across his jet black fur. Kitty gazes up at me with his huge, green eyes, lets out a
soft little cry to say hello and jumps to his feet. He scampers over to me then standing on his hind
legs, he puts his paws on my thigh. I pick him up, knowing that after a long day alone, he's dying
to be handled. I hold him in my arms as if he were my child, and he immediately begins to almost
vibrate. His soft purr gradually gets louder and louder as I caress his little charcoal belly. My arms
start to weaken from Kitty's weight, but I hold him a little longer knowing that this is to him
Heaven. I realize that I have, for the moment, let go of...show more content...
I put Kitty down and decide that since my mind is no longer scrambling, I will rest a little bit on
the futon in the living room. I know he will follow in right after me. It is just like clockwork
every time. I lie down, get all settled in and here he comes running into the room to join me. He
pounces onto the couch and nestles himself right next to me. I feel his lean, muscular body
warming my side. He squirms and curls, trying to find the most comfortable position; then he is
still. That is, he is still all except for his fluffy, dark tail. His tail curls and wags continuously as if it
were a totally different creature, maybe a little black snake you would find in the yard. It is strange
really. you could possibly think that Kitty is sometimes dead because he is so still, but then you
notice his tail wagging and it is a complete give away.
As I rest and Kitty sleeps, I look over at him and he looks just like a stuffed animal you would find
in a child's room. All of a sudden, I feel him begin to twitch and jerk. I watch him in amusement
and I realize that he is dreaming. I wonder what he is dreaming about. His twitches and jerks
become more frequent, and he starts to make little sounds. I wonder if he is having a nightmare, if I
should wake him up or just leave him alone. I leave him alone and he becomes that cute, little
stuffed animal again. I guess the dream is over.
Sometimes when I am lying there with Kitty, I think about what I would do if something

Descriptive Essay On A Stray Cat
No one ever told me that if you feed a stray cat it would stay but that is exactly what I and two of
my three sisters did one humid summer evening as three little cats wandered into the entrance of
our yard. Wandering into the yard was not an easy feat to accomplish since we lived on a forest
like winding road in a rural area about a mile off the main road. Somehow the three kittens found
us late into the evening as the evening skies were beginning to set in and we were having a
cookout. My sisters and I had traveled away from the front of the house down towards the
winding road. Since I was not crazy about baked beans and potato salad in those days, feeding the
stray kittens seemed like a fun and ideal thing to do so as I walked towards them with my
unwanted veggie filled plate; I began to flick my food from my fork which landed at the feet of
the kittens. They gobbled it intensely so they must have been hungry. After that evening it did not
take long for the three little ones to make their way to our front door step and we begged our mom
to let us keep them. After some hesitation for a few days and since no one had come to claim them
she finally gave in and we had three little kittens to enjoy.
Teeger, Tiger and Tinkerbell were the names we all agreed to. Teeger was a male calicocat with an
all white underbelly and splotches of black, white, grey and orange all over his back. He was the
largest of all the kittens so my older sister Pat claimed him as her own.

Owning a Pet Essay
Owning a Pet
Having a pet is a wonderful idea. Pets bring companionship, personality, and gut wrenching humor
to households across the world. Having previously owned both a cat and a dog, and currently being
without a pet, I began to think about getting a new furry friend. Born a dog lover, and bred into a cat
lover, I had the difficult decision of choosing one of the two.
When I was twenty–two years old, I answered an advertisement in the paper for free Labrador
puppies. Driving up to the house, I saw all the little critters running around and having a ball of a
time. I got into the pen with the pups, and finally decided on the shy runt who spent the majority of
his time hiding under a board. I loved his personality and instantly...show more content...
I never could quite figure out Vegas' love of the window. I understood there was a lot of action
going on that he was taking in: the birds flying by and the squirrels climbing trees, but it was like
the window screen was his safety net, and everything outside of that was hot lava. If I even tried
to carry him outside the door he would instantly tense up, claw into my shoulder, and make a Carl
Lewis leap back inside. I made the horrible mistake of purchasing a cat walking apparatus in an
attempt to broaden his horizons. For the whole five minutes I had Vegas on the leash, he easily
could have been misconceived as the Tasmanian devil.
On the other hand, Charlie was born to be walked. Or in his eyes, walk me. I could hardly get to
his leash before he was tackling me to go. Charlie had a set path he enjoyed taking every night,
including strategically hitting up the same elderly couples, who would spend there evenings porch
watching, for his dinner leftover treat. For those who didn't give him a treat, well, he had a treat of
his own for them.
Charlie enjoyed getting out and around, smelling the world outside his own, and I always felt bad
about keeping him in such a small yard. Plus, with such a small yard, keeping up with the packages
Charlie left in his own yard was quite a chore. Whereas Vegas, like most cats, did his business
efficiently in the same square liter

Literary Devices In Cat In The Rain
Analysis of "Cat in the Rain"
Hemmingway juggles heavy themes as gender roles and identity in a minimalistic and colloquial
style of writing , in his short story of fiction, "Cat in the Rain" from the collection of short stories –
"In our Time" which was published in 1925.
The story takes place in Italy. The setting is a hotel at the seaside on a rainy day. "Italians came
from a long way off to look up at the war monument. It was made of bronze and glistened in the
rain. It was raining." The war monument in the text can be a reference to the fallen in World War I,
which ended in 1918. This means what the town could be from Hemingway's memory, because he
was stationed in Italy during World War I.
The composition of the story is linear and...show more content...
The Padrone gives her attention, and gives her what she wants, while the husband is unconcerned
about her and her wishes.
Hemmingway refers to the characters as, "the wife" and "the husband." He wants to generalize the
characters. The wife wishes to be stereotypically feminine. In the story she has short hair and is
"tired of looking like a boy," when, she begins expressing feminine wishes and shows signs of
wanting a stay–at–home lifestyle, something many women had in the twenties.
The husband is stereotypically male chauvinist. He wants to dominate, by saying "shut up" and he
cannot be bothered with his wife's wishes.
The themes in "Cat in the Rain" are gender roles, loneliness and identity as the things where the
wife is struggling. Gender roles is a theme because she is trying to fit in society's idea of who she
should be. Loneliness, because her marriage is falling apart and she has no one to talk to. She is
confused about her identity, on the background of her trying to fit in a specific "mould" of how she
should behave.
Other themes could be marriage and communication, how the marriage is falling apart and the
communication between the two of them does not seem to work in this

So why not start a cafГ© where you can play with the cats for as long as you want?" (Solomon).
Not only is this a great place to calm nerves, people consider playing with cats a type of therapy.
This has been proven to help many people, like college students who might be missing their home
pets a little too much. According to The Arkansas Traveler, "Behold the University of Arkansas:
26,000 stressed out, emotionally distraught, ridiculously busy students who may or may not have a
mild case of pet sickness– the pet–version of homesickness where in your family animal is the only
thing you miss about home. Not only does being around a cat relieve that pent up stress, it has a
bunch of other health benefits as well. Cat's purrs vibrate at 20–150 Hertz, which is a therapeutic
vibration that can lower your risk for heart attack and promote bone strength, according to the
Catfe's website." (Arkansas Traveler). This does not just help college students but everyone else
too. The purring of the cats helps a person calm down. So why wouldn't you want a therapy session
for less than ten dollars?
The cafГ© moved to their new location to get more business from the local college students.
Fayetteville, Arkansas is an amazing place to start or run a business, The Arkansas Traveler stated,
"'Fayetteville was an ideal location to start a business,' Solomon said.

Cat People Vs Dog People Laura Miller Analysis
In her article, "Cat people vs. dog people," Laura Miller compares and contrasts the arguments that
dog people and cat people have against the two furry companions and how other writers talk about
them. Between the two, Miller seems to take the side of the cats. Stating that she likes both cats
and dogs and even has lived with both, but favors the cats more. She brings to light, how authors of
books pertaining to felines and canines seem to adopt a way of writing about their own cats and
dogs and tend to glorify them. And also how the real problem in the cats versus dog debate is not the
animals themselves, but how cat and dog owners see each other.
Like Miller, I love both cats and dogs. I'm a lover of all animals to be honest. I have a cat

Argument
The short story Cat in the rain by Ernest Hemingway is one of my favorite pieces of short fiction
written by an American writer. I read the story for the first time in my second year at the university
and, ever since then, whenever I met people who shared my passion for literature, I bring up Cat in
the rain. What puzzles me most is the uncertainty that I have regarding the cat. Is the cat that the
American woman saw in the rain the same one with the cat that the innkeeper gave her at the end of
the short story?
Synopsis
The short story Cat in the Rain was written in the 1920's. It is about an American couple who spends
their holidays in an Italian hotel. It is a rainy day and the American woman sees a cat in the rain,

This character provides the lonely wife the only source of encouragement.
The protagonist
The protagonist of the story is the American wife / girl. The woman's spontaneous reaction after she
had seen that cat stands for the conflict of the story. Usually only children want to protect cats or
dogs from the rain, as a grown–up knows that rain does not do any harm to animals living on the
street. The woman wants to protect the little cat, which now stands for something innocent and
vulnerable, like a baby. This is the behaviour of an adult. But on the other hand she acts like a
child by having this wish for a cat. It is extremely meaningful that the woman is referred to as "girl"
in the following paragraph, not as "wife" like before.
The sequence in which we get to know that she likes the hotelkeeper a lot follows next. She likes
the way he wants to serve her. Why? Because it makes her feel like a grown–up woman, treated like
a real lady. But the other reasons for liking him originate from a more childish mentality: she likes
him because of "his old, heavy face and big hands". When she talks about the cat she does not say
"cat" but "kitty," which is usually a childish expression.
The two parts of her personality can be noticed in the way she perceives the innkeeper: "The
padrone made her feel very small and at the same time very important. She had a momentary feeling
of being of great importance." The child in

Reflection Paper Of A Cat
My husband, Brandon, had always been adamant about never getting a cat. For about the first
decade of our marriage, I agreed. When we had kids, however, both of our children loved cats. Then
one day our 4–year–old son, Pierce, told me that he wanted a cat, I told him that I had secretly been
wanting one, too. We decided to start praying that God would send us acat; the perfect cat for our
family.
For over a year we prayed for God to send us a cat. Then one day our son came to me and told me
that God was not hearing our prayers. It broke my heart. My little freckled faced boy was losing
faith in God. Why had God not just left us a cat right on our doorstep? If that happened, we would
know that it was divine intervention and that the cat was meant to be ours! When I saw how
disappointed my little boy was, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I finally told
Brandon that Pierce and I had been praying for a cat. I told him that Pierce was beginning to
question why God wasn't answering his prayers. So Brandon and I made a list of requirements
that the cat would have to meet if we were ever going to get one. The list was long: the cat had to
be female, an adult, have been spayed, up to date on vaccinations, she had to be free, and I
preferred her to be black. Since statistics show that more black cats are killed in shelters than any
other color cat, I thought I would surely be rescuing her from certain death.
It was Thanksgiving weekend and I started scouring the

Essay on Cat People versus Dog People
I know the biggest discussion when you are about to get a new pet is; am I a cat person or dog
person? I'm about to solve your confusion. 62% of United States homes have at least one pet.
Overall, homes that claim to have pets 78 million of them are dogs and 86 million are cats. These
numbers are misleading, according to a survey in the Reader's Digest 41% identified that they were
cat people where as 74% were dog people (Reader's Digest). My sister is a major dog person she
can't live without them some days. Her latest addition to the family is a Vizsla puppy named toby.
According to her the nick name of this breed is a Velcro dog, it's loyal to a fault and whimpers at
the sight of you walking away. Then my mom would never admit it but I...show more content...
More facts about cat people are that they are more likely to live in an apartment, as well as to live
alone with the exception of cats (Reader's Digest). However, that does not mean there is an
overabundance of cats in said apartment.
Dog personality based people are more of a social breed. These types on average are more likely
to be men. This is not much of a surprise since dogs are usually referred to as "man's best friend."
Their personalities center on being conservative and extroverted (Reader's Digest). As such, they
hold to tradition and are an outgoing, overtly expressive person. Within social gatherings, they
move around a lot usually seeking attention or people to talk to. Their sense of humor tends to be
drawn to slapstick humor. Slapstick is a type of broad physical comedy involving boisterous, violent
activities which may exceed the boundaries of common sense. The home life of a dog person
usually resides within rural areas, and are most often married with a family.
There is always the chance that someone could prefer both cats and dogs. This fact is supported by
people who have both, but are more likely to think in the same fashion of a dog person. In this case
you are also likely to talk to your animals, possibly have a four year degree and even dislike
animal–print clothing. I know those sound a little nuts but I have to admit when you need someone
to talk to cats are great. I am working on that four year

Imagine yourself coming home to a cute, fluffy, brown cat just purring and rubbing on your feet
or even just playing with your toes after a long and tiring day at work. After a few minutes, you
now feel relaxed and calm. Everyone knows that a man 's best friend is a dog, but what about a cat?
Having a cat is just as important as a dog. At a young age, I had many pets including cats, and
through my experience, I have learned a lot about them. I believe that cats are better pets than dogs
and should be appreciated.
Cats are cute and cuddly, but they can be dangerous when needed to. Having a cat is just like
having a free exterminator at home. As stated by Animal Planet in their video, "Cats 101: Domestic
Housecat," cats were brought from England to the colonies to control rat infestations and, still,
today, cats have the urge to hunt these creatures. Cats enjoy or at least some of them, like to hunt
and eat rats and mice. If someone had a rat or mice infestation, I would definitely recommend them
to get a cat as soon as possible.
Apart from being an exterminator, cats are very easy to maintain. Despite their small sizes that they
come in, they do not need their owners to bathe them. Cats keep clean by constantly licking
themselves, unlike dogs that have to be bathed by their pet owners. Since cats can clean their own
selves, it saves money because a person does not have to buy shampoo or use more water on them.
The extra money can then be used for something that's more

Cat's Table
The "The cat's Table" written by Michael Ondaatje, is the number–one international best seller,
because of Michael's amazing writing style. Such as; great use of living imagery, flashbacks, and

The Cat's Table, one of the most powerful books of all times. One of the aspects that make" The
Cat's Table" very unique, is the way that Michael Ondaatje uses imagery throughout the book. He
uses great details to describe all the events that take place in the novel, thereby, giving the reader a
much deeper understanding of the characters as well as the story. For instance; when he is
describing the view while the ship stopped in...show more content...
At the beginning of the novel, it seems that the story is going to take place in the distant past, the
first flash–forward is when Michael talks about the further acquaintance with Ramadhin, in
London. In the middle of the book, however, Michael is giving more details about his current life
and relationship with Massi. There is also another long detour near the end of the book as well.
The great attention to details is another reason The Cats Table, is an ageless book. For instance;
only some pages of the book are numbered, this makes the reader forget about the passage of time
throughout the story, turning it as interesting as Michael's journey on the ship. Another example of
that would be the book cover which explains how lost and confused Michael has been at that time,
just like the boat that is floating in the middle of an ocean with only a few lights, not knowing
where it has come from or where it is going. Although Michael was spending all his time having an
adventure with his friends, there are times when he shows the self–awareness one associates with
growing up. For instance; when

Assignment 1 – The Evil of the Outdoor Cat
The main argument is:
Premise (1) Outdoor cats are becoming socially unacceptable.
Premise (2) If cats go outdoors they are likely to be faced with multiple hazards.
Premise (3) We should prevent cats from the dangers of outdoor living if we love them. (suppressed)
Conclusion (4) Therefore, cats should probably be kept indoors. (suppressed)
Sub–argument 1
Sub–conclusion (1): Premise (5) There is a growing sense of alarm about the dramatic decline in
wildlife, especially in bird population. Premise (6) There is a new awareness that cats share a
significant share of the blame.
Sub–argument 2
Sub–conclusion (5): Premise (7) Federal researchers recently estimated that free–ranging cats killed
about 2.4 billion birds annually in the Lower 48 states, this is a substantial bite out of the total bird
population. Premise (8) Outdoor cats kill about 12.3 billion small mammals a year and about 650
million reptiles and amphibians.
Sub–argument 3
Sub–conclusion (2): Premise (9) A cat going outdoors is likely to be living life by the sword sort of
way. Premise (10) The author's cat died outdoors. Premise (11) If cats go outdoors it is almost
impossible to predict what diseases they will catch.
These logical relationships can be diagrammed like this:...show more content...
The author uses these experiences as examples to illustrate the premises and maybe to some
extent is biased in using it to justify his conclusion. The writer is biased because of his personal
experience with his own outdoor cat, he probably blames himself for its death and that if he had
kept his cat indoors it probably would not have died. Statements 3 and 4 are suppressed and I
believe is implied when the author hints that outdoor cats will become socially unacceptable as cat
lovers will eventually see the multiple hazards of outdoor living are terrible for

  • 1. Adopting a Cat Adopting a Cat Introduction About a year after my old black lab Zach a dear friend for 11 years had to be "put down" (because he didn't have the strength to stand on his feet anymore) I knew I wanted another pet but I had to decide what pet I would bring into the apartment next. I love animals, and I was raised in a family that had dogs, rabbits, tropical fish, a cat and a box turtle living on the enclosed front porch. So, after thinking it over carefully and researching issues related to cats I have decided to bring a cat into my apartment. In fact when I lived in Wisconsin I had a great cat, a mellow, loyal gray tabby named Eddie, who waited for me at the door when I came home each day (like a dog in that sense), and whom I dearly loved. So, I decided to adopt a cat, and instead of buying a cat from a pet shop or taking a baby kitty from someone's new–borne litter on Craig's List, I have decided to adopt a cat from a animal rescue shelter. Adopting a cat or a dog from a bona fide rescue / no–kill center is the same strategy I would recommend to friend or a brother, for several reasons that will be described in this essay. Why Adopt a Cat? First of all, cats are far more self–sufficient than dogs so they require a lot less direct attention from pet owners. It is well known that dogs are lovable and make extremely loyal pets, and that some cats have a reputation for being standoffish, whiney and even finicky about what they eat. But many cats are also very cuddly and a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Stylistic Analysis "Cat in the Rain" Анализ текста "КошРєР° РїРѕРґ дождем" The sample of emotive prose which has been chosen for stylistic analysis is a short story "Cat in the rain" by Ernest Hemingway. It has been chosen because it is suggestive and contains a definite psychological implication. The story is interesting from the point of view of the author's approach to conveying the main idea to the mind of the reader. It is always implicit and remains unspoken. It is the reader himself who should find it behind the simple, at first sight, description of the events. Hemingway presents only sequence of outward actions and leaves the reader to imagine more than the words themselves can convey. This is characteristic of Hemingway's manner of writing he is famous for. The...show more content... It is also the syntax that serves for this purpose. The author resorts to parallel constructions consisting of short simple sentences to create a downcast atmosphere of dull, monotonous evening and at the same time presentiment and alarming anticipation of something that is likely to happen in the nearest time. In such deadly boring evening the american girl saw a cat in the rain. "The cat sat under the table and tried to make herself so compact that she wouldn't be dripped on". Suddenly the girl felt strong inexplicable desire to get this cat. May be she just pitied it. It must have been a miserable spectacle: wet, homeless cat crouching under the table in the empty square. The girl decided to go down and get this cat. Here the reader gets acquainted with her husband. He is lying on the bed and reading and he has no desire to go out in such a weather for the cat his wife wants so much. Although he proposed it but sooner out of politeness and he did not insist. "Dont get wet"– he said, but it wasn't a care – he said it just to say something. Later the reader can see that the hotel–keeper gives the girl more attention than her own husband. That's why she liked the owner of the hotel so much. Emphasizing the girl's attitude to the hotel–keeper the author resorts to repetition: "She liked the deadly serious way he received any complains. She liked his dignity. She liked the way he Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Descriptive Essay On A Cat On February 5th, 2016 my family adopted our cat named Blair, but his story goes back much before that time. My family has had pets before, but they have all wandered into our family and we kept them. The first pet we sought out didn't fit our folk so we, unfortunately had to give him up. Blair was the next pet we were searching to find and we were nervous. The idea to get a cat was when school started and my mom, who sews at home all day, was lonely without the kids at home with her. She started talking about all our previous kittens and soon we were on board. During this time my mom had to go to Ohio often for her dad and we saw the perfect time to surprise her. Unplanned that Sunday, my dad brought up the idea to go look to see if the surrounding animal shelters had any kittens. The first two we went to didn't have any cats under the age of 4 which wasn't our inclination. I quickly googled and found one last place to try on our way home and that is where we found success. The shelter was filled with people socializing with the animals and they warmly welcomed us. An employee explained to us that it was not kitten season but all their cats were young and small. The first cat room had the older cats and they were less active. I enjoyed playing with the cats and thought that I had picked out one that seemed energetic. My dad recommended to go to the second room and these cats were much friendlier. My brother and I sat and watched each cat and how they interacted for a long Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Descriptive Essay About Cats There are two types of people in this world, you're either a dog person or you're a cat person. Only one of these is the right kind of person: a cat person! These fuzzy creatures are definitely the more superior pet to have, and any cat owner is certain to agree. If you have never had a cat before and are uncertain of what to do, it might seem a little overwhelming. Don't worry, once you know the basics, you will be one step closer to becoming a fantastic cat owner. Cats are great companions to have and it's important to know how to properly take care of a cat. In order to keep a happy and healthy cat, you need to know how to care for him/her. Before you can properly take care of a cat, you must own a cat. You can get a cat or kitten from a pet store or shelter. Cats can range from many various colors and sizes. It's important that you get the right cat for you. The second you lay your eye on the perfect cat you will know if that is the cat for you. It should be love at first sight. When I first saw my cat I knew that I had to take her home with me. Nothing was going to stop me from bringing her home, not even my dad's hatred for cats. After you have found your soulmate, in cat form, you have to decide on the perfect name that suits your new pal. Usually, the name of your cat should come to you the minute you lay eyes on him or her. If it doesn't come to you right away, don't worry, the name will come to you soon. You should keep in mind that whatever you ultimately decide Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Cats Cats are more than just furry friends, if you let them into your heart they become family. I have 19 years of owning plenty of cats, and I currently have four. I love my cats, they honestly are my family. I also have two dogs and they really do need more attention than cats, a lot more. We are all college students, and some of us desire a companion without a ton of commitment. That is where adopting a cat comes into play. Cats even have health benefits to them, they are scientifically proven to reduce stress and sadness, they do not need a ton of attention (although some required and the more the better), and if you are allergic there are even hypoallergenic breeds of cats for you. Losing a friend or family member is truly hard, yet an easy method for coping is to adopt a pet. Felines have been proven to help individuals to get over their misfortune more rapidly, and show less physical indications of pain, such as crying. Despite the fact that they are only animals, cats fill in as a social help through troublesome times. Individuals in grieving report conversing with their pet to work out their feelings, since it is easier to talk with something that won't react and can't judge, such as another person. Another study, conducted by the University of Minnesota in 2008, revealed that owning a cat reduces stress and anxiety, thus bringing down the risk of cardiovascular disease. In fact, the chances of having a heart attack are reduced by 40 percent if you own a cat. Felines Get more content on HelpWriting.net

It bounces off the sparkling glasses and cutlery, setting the restaurant alight with sparkles. A slight breeze hits the shimmering chandelier, sending beautiful lights around the room. Despite this, the occupants are tense and quiet, except for a small cat, basking in the sunlight. Her ears flick back and forth despite the relaxed demeanour. Warm daylight shines through her soft, grey fur, making it look white. With her eyes happily closed, she emits an engine like sound, in sync with her breathing. The small purple ribbon around her neck is frayed, and a slight ringing comes from the attached bell as it swings. A young girl sits nearby, shielding her eyes from the sun with one scratched hand, while the other angrily clutches her dress. Beneath the dress, she wears several layers of alarmingly bright shirts. Kitty gazes up at me with his huge, green eyes, lets out a soft little cry to say hello and jumps to his feet. He scampers over to me then standing on his hind legs, he puts his paws on my thigh. I feel his lean, muscular body warming my side. He squirms and curls, trying to find the most comfortable position; then he is still. That is, he is still all except for his fluffy, dark tail. His tail curls and wags continuously as if it were a totally different creature, maybe a little black snake you would find in the yard. It is strange really. you could possibly think that Kitty is sometimes dead because he is so still, but then you notice his tail wagging and it is a complete give away. As I rest and Kitty sleeps, I look over at him and he looks just like a stuffed animal you would find in a child's room. All of a sudden, I feel him begin to twitch and jerk. • 9. Descriptive Essay On A Stray Cat No one ever told me that if you feed a stray cat it would stay but that is exactly what I and two of my three sisters did one humid summer evening as three little cats wandered into the entrance of our yard. Wandering into the yard was not an easy feat to accomplish since we lived on a forest like winding road in a rural area about a mile off the main road. Somehow the three kittens found us late into the evening as the evening skies were beginning to set in and we were having a cookout. My sisters and I had traveled away from the front of the house down towards the winding road. Since I was not crazy about baked beans and potato salad in those days, feeding the stray kittens seemed like a fun and ideal thing to do so as I walked towards them with my unwanted veggie filled plate; I began to flick my food from my fork which landed at the feet of the kittens. They gobbled it intensely so they must have been hungry. After that evening it did not take long for the three little ones to make their way to our front door step and we begged our mom to let us keep them. After some hesitation for a few days and since no one had come to claim them she finally gave in and we had three little kittens to enjoy. Teeger, Tiger and Tinkerbell were the names we all agreed to. Teeger was a male calicocat with an all white underbelly and splotches of black, white, grey and orange all over his back. He was the largest of all the kittens so my older sister Pat claimed him as her own. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Owning a Pet Essay Owning a Pet Having a pet is a wonderful idea. Pets bring companionship, personality, and gut wrenching humor to households across the world. Having previously owned both a cat and a dog, and currently being without a pet, I began to think about getting a new furry friend. Born a dog lover, and bred into a cat lover, I had the difficult decision of choosing one of the two. When I was twenty–two years old, I answered an advertisement in the paper for free Labrador puppies. Driving up to the house, I saw all the little critters running around and having a ball of a time. I got into the pen with the pups, and finally decided on the shy runt who spent the majority of his time hiding under a board. I loved his personality and instantly...show more content... I never could quite figure out Vegas' love of the window. I understood there was a lot of action going on that he was taking in: the birds flying by and the squirrels climbing trees, but it was like the window screen was his safety net, and everything outside of that was hot lava. If I even tried to carry him outside the door he would instantly tense up, claw into my shoulder, and make a Carl Lewis leap back inside. I made the horrible mistake of purchasing a cat walking apparatus in an attempt to broaden his horizons. For the whole five minutes I had Vegas on the leash, he easily could have been misconceived as the Tasmanian devil. On the other hand, Charlie was born to be walked. Or in his eyes, walk me. I could hardly get to his leash before he was tackling me to go. Charlie had a set path he enjoyed taking every night, including strategically hitting up the same elderly couples, who would spend there evenings porch watching, for his dinner leftover treat. For those who didn't give him a treat, well, he had a treat of his own for them. Charlie enjoyed getting out and around, smelling the world outside his own, and I always felt bad about keeping him in such a small yard. Plus, with such a small yard, keeping up with the packages Charlie left in his own yard was quite a chore. Whereas Vegas, like most cats, did his business efficiently in the same square liter Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Literary Devices In Cat In The Rain Analysis of "Cat in the Rain" Hemmingway juggles heavy themes as gender roles and identity in a minimalistic and colloquial style of writing , in his short story of fiction, "Cat in the Rain" from the collection of short stories – "In our Time" which was published in 1925. The story takes place in Italy. The setting is a hotel at the seaside on a rainy day. "Italians came from a long way off to look up at the war monument. It was made of bronze and glistened in the rain. It was raining." The war monument in the text can be a reference to the fallen in World War I, which ended in 1918. This means what the town could be from Hemingway's memory, because he was stationed in Italy during World War I. The composition of the story is linear and...show more content... The Padrone gives her attention, and gives her what she wants, while the husband is unconcerned about her and her wishes. Hemmingway refers to the characters as, "the wife" and "the husband." He wants to generalize the characters. The wife wishes to be stereotypically feminine. In the story she has short hair and is "tired of looking like a boy," when, she begins expressing feminine wishes and shows signs of wanting a stay–at–home lifestyle, something many women had in the twenties. The husband is stereotypically male chauvinist. He wants to dominate, by saying "shut up" and he cannot be bothered with his wife's wishes. The themes in "Cat in the Rain" are gender roles, loneliness and identity as the things where the wife is struggling. Gender roles is a theme because she is trying to fit in society's idea of who she should be. Loneliness, because her marriage is falling apart and she has no one to talk to. She is confused about her identity, on the background of her trying to fit in a specific "mould" of how she should behave. Other themes could be marriage and communication, how the marriage is falling apart and the communication between the two of them does not seem to work in this Get more content on HelpWriting.net

So why not start a cafГ© where you can play with the cats for as long as you want?" (Solomon). Not only is this a great place to calm nerves, people consider playing with cats a type of therapy. This has been proven to help many people, like college students who might be missing their home pets a little too much. According to The Arkansas Traveler, "Behold the University of Arkansas: 26,000 stressed out, emotionally distraught, ridiculously busy students who may or may not have a mild case of pet sickness– the pet–version of homesickness where in your family animal is the only thing you miss about home. Not only does being around a cat relieve that pent up stress, it has a bunch of other health benefits as well. Cat's purrs vibrate at 20–150 Hertz, which is a therapeutic vibration that can lower your risk for heart attack and promote bone strength, according to the Catfe's website." (Arkansas Traveler). This does not just help college students but everyone else too. The purring of the cats helps a person calm down. So why wouldn't you want a therapy session for less than ten dollars? The cafГ© moved to their new location to get more business from the local college students. Fayetteville, Arkansas is an amazing place to start or run a business, The Arkansas Traveler stated, "'Fayetteville was an ideal location to start a business,' Solomon said. • 13. Cat People Vs Dog People Laura Miller Analysis In her article, "Cat people vs. dog people," Laura Miller compares and contrasts the arguments that dog people and cat people have against the two furry companions and how other writers talk about them. Between the two, Miller seems to take the side of the cats. Stating that she likes both cats and dogs and even has lived with both, but favors the cats more. She brings to light, how authors of books pertaining to felines and canines seem to adopt a way of writing about their own cats and dogs and tend to glorify them. And also how the real problem in the cats versus dog debate is not the animals themselves, but how cat and dog owners see each other. Like Miller, I love both cats and dogs. I'm a lover of all animals to be honest. I have a cat Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Argument The short story Cat in the rain by Ernest Hemingway is one of my favorite pieces of short fiction written by an American writer. I read the story for the first time in my second year at the university and, ever since then, whenever I met people who shared my passion for literature, I bring up Cat in the rain. What puzzles me most is the uncertainty that I have regarding the cat. Is the cat that the American woman saw in the rain the same one with the cat that the innkeeper gave her at the end of the short story? Synopsis The short story Cat in the Rain was written in the 1920's. It is about an American couple who spends their holidays in an Italian hotel. It is a rainy day and the American woman sees a cat in the rain, ...show more content... This character provides the lonely wife the only source of encouragement. The protagonist The protagonist of the story is the American wife / girl. The woman's spontaneous reaction after she had seen that cat stands for the conflict of the story. Usually only children want to protect cats or dogs from the rain, as a grown–up knows that rain does not do any harm to animals living on the street. The woman wants to protect the little cat, which now stands for something innocent and vulnerable, like a baby. This is the behaviour of an adult. But on the other hand she acts like a child by having this wish for a cat. It is extremely meaningful that the woman is referred to as "girl" in the following paragraph, not as "wife" like before. The sequence in which we get to know that she likes the hotelkeeper a lot follows next. She likes the way he wants to serve her. Why? Because it makes her feel like a grown–up woman, treated like a real lady. But the other reasons for liking him originate from a more childish mentality: she likes him because of "his old, heavy face and big hands". When she talks about the cat she does not say "cat" but "kitty," which is usually a childish expression. The two parts of her personality can be noticed in the way she perceives the innkeeper: "The padrone made her feel very small and at the same time very important. She had a momentary feeling of being of great importance." The child in Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Her eyes are green meadows filled with never ending sunlight and clear blue skies. Her cheeks are pillows of soft, pink cotton candy. • 16. Reflection Paper Of A Cat My husband, Brandon, had always been adamant about never getting a cat. For about the first decade of our marriage, I agreed. When we had kids, however, both of our children loved cats. Then one day our 4–year–old son, Pierce, told me that he wanted a cat, I told him that I had secretly been wanting one, too. We decided to start praying that God would send us acat; the perfect cat for our family. For over a year we prayed for God to send us a cat. Then one day our son came to me and told me that God was not hearing our prayers. It broke my heart. My little freckled faced boy was losing faith in God. Why had God not just left us a cat right on our doorstep? If that happened, we would know that it was divine intervention and that the cat was meant to be ours! When I saw how disappointed my little boy was, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I finally told Brandon that Pierce and I had been praying for a cat. I told him that Pierce was beginning to question why God wasn't answering his prayers. So Brandon and I made a list of requirements that the cat would have to meet if we were ever going to get one. The list was long: the cat had to be female, an adult, have been spayed, up to date on vaccinations, she had to be free, and I preferred her to be black. Since statistics show that more black cats are killed in shelters than any other color cat, I thought I would surely be rescuing her from certain death. It was Thanksgiving weekend and I started scouring the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Essay on Cat People versus Dog People I know the biggest discussion when you are about to get a new pet is; am I a cat person or dog person? I'm about to solve your confusion. 62% of United States homes have at least one pet. Overall, homes that claim to have pets 78 million of them are dogs and 86 million are cats. These numbers are misleading, according to a survey in the Reader's Digest 41% identified that they were cat people where as 74% were dog people (Reader's Digest). My sister is a major dog person she can't live without them some days. Her latest addition to the family is a Vizsla puppy named toby. According to her the nick name of this breed is a Velcro dog, it's loyal to a fault and whimpers at the sight of you walking away. Then my mom would never admit it but I...show more content... More facts about cat people are that they are more likely to live in an apartment, as well as to live alone with the exception of cats (Reader's Digest). However, that does not mean there is an overabundance of cats in said apartment. Dog personality based people are more of a social breed. These types on average are more likely to be men. This is not much of a surprise since dogs are usually referred to as "man's best friend." Their personalities center on being conservative and extroverted (Reader's Digest). As such, they hold to tradition and are an outgoing, overtly expressive person. Within social gatherings, they move around a lot usually seeking attention or people to talk to. Their sense of humor tends to be drawn to slapstick humor. Slapstick is a type of broad physical comedy involving boisterous, violent activities which may exceed the boundaries of common sense. The home life of a dog person usually resides within rural areas, and are most often married with a family. There is always the chance that someone could prefer both cats and dogs. This fact is supported by people who have both, but are more likely to think in the same fashion of a dog person. In this case you are also likely to talk to your animals, possibly have a four year degree and even dislike animal–print clothing. I know those sound a little nuts but I have to admit when you need someone to talk to cats are great. I am working on that four year Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Imagine yourself coming home to a cute, fluffy, brown cat just purring and rubbing on your feet or even just playing with your toes after a long and tiring day at work. After a few minutes, you now feel relaxed and calm. Everyone knows that a man 's best friend is a dog, but what about a cat? Having a cat is just as important as a dog. At a young age, I had many pets including cats, and through my experience, I have learned a lot about them. I believe that cats are better pets than dogs and should be appreciated. Cats are cute and cuddly, but they can be dangerous when needed to. Having a cat is just like having a free exterminator at home. As stated by Animal Planet in their video, "Cats 101: Domestic Housecat," cats were brought from England to the colonies to control rat infestations and, still, today, cats have the urge to hunt these creatures. Cats enjoy or at least some of them, like to hunt and eat rats and mice. If someone had a rat or mice infestation, I would definitely recommend them to get a cat as soon as possible. Apart from being an exterminator, cats are very easy to maintain. Despite their small sizes that they come in, they do not need their owners to bathe them. Cats keep clean by constantly licking themselves, unlike dogs that have to be bathed by their pet owners. Since cats can clean their own selves, it saves money because a person does not have to buy shampoo or use more water on them. The extra money can then be used for something that's more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Cat's Table The "The cat's Table" written by Michael Ondaatje, is the number–one international best seller, because of Michael's amazing writing style. Such as; great use of living imagery, flashbacks, and flash–forwards of the story and also his close attention to details of the book. All of these make The Cat's Table, one of the most powerful books of all times. One of the aspects that make" The Cat's Table" very unique, is the way that Michael Ondaatje uses imagery throughout the book. He uses great details to describe all the events that take place in the novel, thereby, giving the reader a much deeper understanding of the characters as well as the story. For instance; when he is describing the view while the ship stopped in...show more content... At the beginning of the novel, it seems that the story is going to take place in the distant past, the first flash–forward is when Michael talks about the further acquaintance with Ramadhin, in London. In the middle of the book, however, Michael is giving more details about his current life and relationship with Massi. There is also another long detour near the end of the book as well. The great attention to details is another reason The Cats Table, is an ageless book. For instance; only some pages of the book are numbered, this makes the reader forget about the passage of time throughout the story, turning it as interesting as Michael's journey on the ship. Another example of that would be the book cover which explains how lost and confused Michael has been at that time, just like the boat that is floating in the middle of an ocean with only a few lights, not knowing where it has come from or where it is going. Although Michael was spending all his time having an adventure with his friends, there are times when he shows the self–awareness one associates with growing up. For instance; when Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Premise (2) If cats go outdoors they are likely to be faced with multiple hazards. Premise (3) We should prevent cats from the dangers of outdoor living if we love them. (suppressed) Conclusion (4) Therefore, cats should probably be kept indoors. (suppressed) Sub–argument 1 Sub–conclusion (1): Premise (5) There is a growing sense of alarm about the dramatic decline in wildlife, especially in bird population. Premise (6) There is a new awareness that cats share a significant share of the blame. Sub–argument 2 Sub–conclusion (5): Premise (7) Federal researchers recently estimated that free–ranging cats killed about 2.4 billion birds annually in the Lower 48 states, this is a substantial bite out of the total bird population. Premise (8) Outdoor cats kill about 12.3 billion small mammals a year and about 650 million reptiles and amphibians. Sub–argument 3 Sub–conclusion (2): Premise (9) A cat going outdoors is likely to be living life by the sword sort of way. Premise (10) The author's cat died outdoors. Premise (11) If cats go outdoors it is almost impossible to predict what diseases they will catch. These logical relationships can be diagrammed like this:...show more content... The author uses these experiences as examples to illustrate the premises and maybe to some extent is biased in using it to justify his conclusion. The writer is biased because of his personal experience with his own outdoor cat, he probably blames himself for its death and that if he had kept his cat indoors it probably would not have died. Statements 3 and 4 are suppressed and I believe is implied when the author hints that outdoor cats will become socially unacceptable as cat lovers will eventually see the multiple hazards of outdoor living are terrible for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
