has been around for billions and billions of years, yet we only see a 100–year portion of it. If we get
to see that whole 100 years of it then we are considered lucky, the average life span is influenced by
so many variables, it is amazing how many things that we have little or no control over can effect
the our lives. For instance, genetics is a variable that we have no control over, we do not choose our

Culture has a big impact on the decisions that a person makes and whether they view their decisions
as moral or immoral. Males and females both have a different average life expectancy, why is that?
Why does gender affect the life span? The average life span for men in the U.S. is 72 years old and
the average for women is 79 years old. Many diseases are more common in men than in women or
some are more common in women than in men, overall men are at risk more for heart disease and
lung disease. This causes the decreased life expectancy for men as opposed to women. Although
education is a voluntary aspect of life it is still vital to the length of a life span. The knowledge of

are called contextual theories, some systems theories or dynamic systems theories) generally claim

People are motivated by behaviors and actions. I believe this to be very true; when I am around
smart productive people then I feel smarter and more productive. On the other hand, when I hang
around lazy people then I want to be lazy and not do anything and this serves as a turning point for
slow personal growth. Movement through Erikson's stages directly affects people's success in the
next stage. In a nutshell, a person must deal with a conflict until it is resolved with the major events
and then they can move on to the next stage in the lifespan successfully. Both theories are providing
valuable information on how a person progresses through the stages of life and deal with conflict.
Freud had some very valid points; however not everything is related to the basis of sexuality.
Erickson explains his theory in a more articulate manner by expanding on how conflict is present
and a person must resolve them successfully to continue onto the next stage while formulating a

Abstract
People who were hospitalized with mental illness had a high risk of death and short life span from
physical disorders even in Nordic or Scandinavian countries that have most socially progressive
healthcare. This research study were compared the number of deaths from circulatory system
diseases in patients with bipolar and schizophrenia and reviewed the life expectancy in these
patients. The results showed a huge decline in life expectancy of ten to twenty years in patients with
schizophrenia and slightly smaller in bipolar patients, both when compared to the general
population.

conducted a large amount of research on Princess Diana and have found what forces have
influenced her life from the viewpoint of developmental psychology.

Princess Diana was born on July 1, 1961 to parents Edward John Spencer, Viscount Althorp, and

Theories of Personality
B. F. Skinner thought of personality in terms of the effects external stimuli have on behavior. This
emphasized the mutual interaction of the person or "the organism" with its environment. An
example of this is something a baby learns. If a baby cries and receives attention, it teaches the baby
that in order to get attention they need to cry. Princess Diana learned that external stimuli have a
huge effect on her behavior.
Cognitive theories are theories of personality that emphasize cognitive processes such as thinking
and judging. Princess Diana knew that everything she said or did would be judged. This helped to
shape her in the direction she went.
Theoretical Approach
I believe that Carl Roger's approach best explains Princess Diana's behaviors and achievements.
According to About.com: Psychology, Carl Rogers, a humanist psychologist, believed that all
people have an actualizing tendency–a drive to fulfill individual potential that motivates behavior.
Rogers called healthy individuals "fully–functioning," describing these individuals as those who are

methods of changes in human during their life span. The connection of the biological, cognitive, and

cognitive, and social development of Lewis, a three month old male infant. The observation was
conducted at Dordt College in Room CL 1143 and the infant's parent consented to participate in the

Lewis didn't show any signs of a reflexive or a social smile during the observation, but his mother
said that he is easily able to giggle in response to external stimuli in various forms (Santrock, 2014).

I feel at times the biggest person on the face of the earth. Whenever I hear some person bring up
anything related to obesity, I feel as though they are talking about me. If I happen to come across a

Years ago I read a book that was set in a Sci–Fi–esque WWII environment where vampires and

The last stage is the Formal operational stage. This stage is for ages eleven and up. This is the stage
when thoughts are better conserved, more logical and more thought out. More hypothetical thinking

Family can mean anything to an individual. In this case we see that the little girls find a loving home
in those who could not have a baby themselves and they love the girls dearly.

A family of orientation means a lot to the little girls who were left abandoned in China by their own
mothers. Their new adopted family has become their whole world after the horrific event of them
being abandoned. Even though they are not blood related to their new parents they are all they ever
knew and I can't ever imagine thinking the same way about my blood parents if I knew they had
abandoned me. The girls also have another mother who was their foster mom that many adoption
parents take the girls to go visit, because they feel that it is the right thing to do. The foster moms
are very emotional when seeing the girls they took care of and seeing them all grown up. One
mother didn't end up bringing her new daughter to meet her foster parents, because they didn't want
to and the foster mom was very hysterical about it and wished she would have. She stood there
crying and wondered why the mother wouldn't bring the little girl with her. I believe that was very
selfish pf the new mother because she just wanted to see the little girl one last time that she took
care of, but the mother was too selfish to see that.

To begin with, there are health issues eating up the life quality of elder people. Nowadays, the health
system is still exerting more efforts on quantity instead of quality of life for elder people. Life
quality could always be sacrificed for the sake of longevity. Such an idea has put millions of elder

The number of different theories used practiced in social work can be overwhelming. At first glance,
the various approaches bleed together and seem too similar to decipher one from the next. But, after
an in–depth study of each model, the differences become evident. Two of the approaches that
especially stand out are the Life Span Perspective and the Strengths Perspective. The Life Span
Perspective draws from multiple theories to emphasize growth and change over a lifetime. The
Strengths Perspective differs from other social work theories by focusing on the positive
characteristics of a client and their environment. The Life Span Perspective evaluates a person over
their entire lifecycle by evaluating their social, psychodynamic, cognitive, moral, spiritual and
biological change and growth. Every different experience from a younger stage affects that person
through the rest of her lifespan. While each person is unique, this perspective gives us a framework

The only memories I had to share were the ones that we created while he behind bars. Honestly, I
never wanted to share those stories. When people asked me about my father I always bit my inner
jaw in effort to keep the tears at bay. I always felt as if no child should have to experience those

Death is very hard to understand. Even adults have a tough time coping with their loved one's death
what more a child or a teenager finding out that his father will not be around anymore. According to
Kathleen Berger in the book called "The Developing Person Through The Life Span," she believes
that "Adolescents find way to vent their grief to express their personal identity concerns and control

According to Infed (1998), "Levinson argues that the life cycle comprises a sequence of four eras,
each lasting for approximately twenty–five years. He also identifies a number of developmental

Baumrind's Life-Span Development
Presented in the book Life–Span Development, in chapter 8, it explains the four types of parenting
styles by Baumrind's. The first one is called Authoritarian parenting. Authoritarian parenting is a
restrictive, punitive style in which parenting exhorts the child to follow their directions and respect
their work and effort. The second parenting style is called Authoritative parenting. This is when the
children are encouraged to be independent but still place limits and controls on their actions. The
third parenting style is called neglectful parenting. Neglectful parenting is a style in which the

The most frequently expressed concern that I focused were crime and justice, and health and
wellbeing and social policy. I encountered many concerns within the crime and justice category.
They were many news that alarmed and distressed me. One such story was about inmates killing
and injuring many employees while trying to escape from the prison. This incident was planned and
attempted by the inmates at Raleigh, NC prison. While trying to escape, they killed a prison guard
Justin Smith and a vocational worker Veronica Darden. They had set fire at the prison to distract the
employees but it failed and only led to more casualties. According to the head of the state's chief

Life–span perspective is defined as the development that is lifelong, multidimensional,
multidirectional, plastic, multidisciplinary, and contextual; that it involves growth, maintenance, and
regulation; and that it is constructed through biological, sociocultural, and individual factors
working together.
The first story about the casualty caused by the inmates plot of escaping prison shows the the
multidimensional aspect of the life–span perspective. With this experience, each individual
especially the inmates and those who were closely affected by this incident will have a change in
minds, bodies and emotions. This experience will also affect the plasticity of inmates mainly
regarding their personality. They will more likely be more aggressive and violent because of the
failure of the escaping plan.
Second story about teen arrested for crime spree also contains multiple aspects of life–span
perspective. One of the main development evident in the teens is contextual or the historical one,
especially normative history–graded and age–graded influence. The way they were raised or the
environment they were raised likely had a huge influence on the teens and will continue to have an
influence on them throughout their life. Additionally the influence of peers is highly evident because
