War And Western Influence On The Country Of Rambutan
It has been years since I abdicated my thrown in favor of a Kaufman system. You see I was a
powerful leader in my country but I did wrong by my people. I clung to power through force and
suppression which led to my ultimate downfall. Much like Iraq my country of Rambutan was a
result of war and western influence. People of conflicting beliefs were thrown together under one
state and given a constitution to abide by. Western powers believed that a democracy and
constructed constitution would solve the deep seated rivalry between the Durians and the Ackee's
and a nation would transcend a religious identity. This was not the case in fact it made it worse.
Durians held the majority of the state and our hatred toward the Ackee went back to the creation of
our religion of Langsat. The people of the country were not aware of what a democracy was or how
it worked. It became a question of who controls the state and I was the answer. As a general in the
Durian military it was easy for me to seize control. Overrun with power and military loyalty the
Ackee became marginalized. Along with the rest of the population. Animosity between the two
groups grew by the day ethnic and religious war was a constant. Security was nonexistent I made no
attempt to open up economically because much like Tunisia, Rambutan was a rentier state. This
allowed political elites to dominate the country's wealth, leading to extraordinary inequality. The
productivity necessary to develop the economy was

Animal Crossing Persuasive Essay
27. If I could live inside any video game, it would have to be Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I chose
this game because it has been my favorite game ever since July 7, 2013. Because that is when I first
got Animal Crossing. The main reason I want to live in it is because you are the brand new mayor
for a brand new village that you make up yourself. You get to have animal neighbors that have
houses and furniture and and talk to you. You also have a shopping district you can go to and there is
even and museum where you can donate things. Like fish, bugs, art, and even fossils! But there's
more. You get to plant trees of certain kinds a fruit like apples, pears, cherries, peaches, oranges,
lemons, durians, lychees, and mangos. You can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It costs money every time you expand your house or when you get another room. But the way you
get money is by collecting fruit and selling them, collecting fish and bugs and selling them, and
even selling furniture and clothes. So by selling you get money to buy furniture for your house. You
get to design your furniture in your house anyway that you'd like! You can even meet other real
people in Animal Crossing! You can chat with them, go to their town, and even convince their
animals that live there to move to your town! But there's even more! You can escape to an island
paradise and go on tours there and meet people and get exotic fruits for your town. You can even get
seashells there. Oh! and you can go deep sea diving with a wetsuit and collect slugs, crabs, octopi,
and more! But my favorite part about Animal Crossing: New Leaf, is how every hour the
background music changes. Like in the morning, 9am has a happy cheery song, and how 1am has a
sad, sleepy song that makes you tired. But if you're up late on Animal Crossing, all the stores will be
closed. All you can do is enjoy the music, look at the sky, plant flowers and trees, and fix up your
town. But who's to say that's not fun. Hey, sometimes I even do that! My favorite time to play is

This is the first security check point after the passengers receive their boarding passes, and it
separates the passengers from the non–passengers. It is one of the most important security features,
as right after this check point, the passengers have to go through the customs, and it officially shows
that they are leaving the country. Other security features includes the final check at the arrival. At
the arrival hall, there were two separate lanes to the exit, one for the passengers with nothing to
declare and the other one for passengers with items to declare. Passengers are required to declare if
they possess items that are prohibited in Singapore, such as arms and explosives, bullet–proof
clothing, antique guns, toy guns and swords. Such items would require authorisation from the Police

White Nose Syndrome Research Paper
Introduction to White Nose Syndrome
Disease has ravaged the Earth for millions, if not billions, of years. It has existed since the formation
of multicellular organisms on the Earth. Disease arises in many different forms, including parasitic,
mutational, viral, bacterial, and countless more. All life on planet Earth is susceptible to infection of
a disease. Part of what makes numerous diseases extraordinarily dangerous is the copious number of
methods transmission can occur. Diseases can become airborne, transmitted through consumed
sustenance, inherited from previous generations, and various diseases can spontaneously appear out
of thin air. New forms of disease are being generated all the time. A major disease devastating boreal
forests across the North American continent is White Nose Syndrome. ... Show more content on

Approximately half of all bats that get treated will return to the wild. However, not all bats can be
treated. Those infected organisms that are deemed non–releasable have to be humanely put down.
When a bat is found with WNS, it not only suffering due to the infection, but due to exposure and
dehydration as well. There are several precautions and steps it takes to nurse an infected bat to
health. Firstly, the organism needs to be hydrated. Bats brought in for treatment are warmed and
given hydrating fluids until the kidneys function normally. When the bat has finally stabilized, they
are fed nutritious mealworms. Slowly, it will gain weight and start to feed on its own. The bats are
given enough space, so when they are ready, they can begin flying again. After a few weeks of
rehabilitation, the bats are released, however they are not cured, just no longer contagious. There is
still much to be discovered about this disease. Researchers will be studying the fungi and its effects
on ecosystems for many years.

Rowan Jacobsen 's Fruitless Fall : The Collapse Of The...
Rowan Jacobsen's Fruitless Fall: The Collapse of the Honey Bee and the Coming Agricultural Crisis
reminded me of the movie, The Lorax, when all the trees were cut down to make scarf, and the town
became an inhabitable place to live. The people there had moved into a high fenced area where they
had to buy oxygen in large gallons. Similar to the opening chapter: Breakfast in America of the
book, Fruitless Fall, besides being an omnivore, I am also a frugivore, and that basically mean I eat
fruit almost every day especially for breakfast–cherries, berries, apple, banana, and any other fruits I
can find in Morris or Alexandria. However, my favorite fruit of all is the king of fruits, the durian.
As the Rowan Jacobsen (2008) mentioned in Fruitless Fall, most of the plants cannot reproduce and
produce the fruits without insects. The author further wrote insects play an important role being the
"sexual handmaidens to the flowering plants (Jacobsen, pg. 21)". And now, these handmaidens
especially the honey bees are declining globally. Jacobsen's objectives in writing Fruitless Fall: The
Collapse of the Honey Bee and the Coming Agricultural Crisis, are the world's bees disappearance,
pollinator crisis, and the overall the incline of human agricultural crisis. I believe anyone who read
Fruitless Fall can be honked to the book. It is an easy to read, and not too many difficult scientific
words, so if people in other areas read it they can understand it too because it is highly

Although not sold in its original form at our common grocery stores, we normally see the flavor
being used in teas and smoothies. Then there was the mangosteen. It is another purple fruit. It is
creamy and citrusy with a hint of peach. Second to last is the Lychee. This is a common Asian fruit
that is small and white in the inside and has a grape like texture when eaten. Lastly was the Durian,
sadly the worst one of them. It has hard spiky husk that needed to be cracked opened. I was warned
about this one but didn't think it was going to be as bad as it was. It smelled like skunk spray/
sewage. I tried to taste it but didn't. We immediately threw it away. The smell was horrible. A lady
who I spoke to at the store prior to buying the fruit just told me that it was an acquired taste and
smell, but I didn't expect what we experienced. Nonetheless, I enjoyed going through and tasting
each fruit. It definitely was an experience and an eye opener to the different types of fruit out there

FORMS OF TOURISM
Forms of tourism can be discussed in terms of the displacement of persons within certain conditions.

Ecotourism evolved from nature tourism, which can be defined as, "Ecologically sustainable
tourism with a primary focus on experiencing natural areas". Using the same definition, ecotourism

Traffickers use coercion, deception, or abduction to get their victims. They take advantage of the

While sexual exploitation is the main form of trafficking in Europe and Central Asia, in East Asia
and the Pacific it is forced labor. This variety of human trafficking has increased steadily in recent

Immigrants are particularly vulnerable on forced labor, the demand of cheap labor contributes to the
illegal trade of humans, just to reduce costs of production. This is the fault of companies who look
for low–price labor, without caring about the safety, human, and health conditions of their workers.

Durian fruit. When people ask me how I feel about my Vietnamese culture, the first thing that comes
to mind is durian fruit. Unlike the strawberries or cherries found at Safeway, durian fruit at first
glance does not even look edible. The entire fruit resembles a dirty old football, except that durian
weighs nearly three pounds. One–inch spikes and a tough brown outer peel cover the fruit, giving it
an intimidating look. Inside, yellow, kidney–shaped pieces line the peel like orange slices. As a
child, I hated durian. I refused to even taste it. Later on, when I was older, my mother bribed me
with two dollars to try the meaty flesh. I fell in love with the fruit instantly. Its heavenly aroma

I dreamed of living in a big house like his, with nice new furniture. I wanted my parents to be just
like his–caring, loving, and smiling all the time. Richie's parents always seemed to be home. Never
once did Richie come home to an empty house. He always joyfully greeted his mother after school
by tossing his books on the couch, running over to give her a hug, and saying, "Mother, dear, I am
home." If I could not have all of this, I decided, I would settle for merely hanging out with the
white, American crowd. After all, Richie Cunningham hung out with white guys at Al's Cafe. To be
like Richie Cunningham, I concluded, was to be American.
Sometimes, after watching "Happy Days," I would pull a chair into the cramped little bathroom in
our apartment and look at myself in the cracked mirror above the rusty sink. I always felt sad. In the
cracked reflection, I saw a small face with no blue eyes, no red hair, and no red freckles. I wondered
if my skin would ever fade to the nicer shade of white. I even tried to imitate Richie's clean, accent–
free voice and realized that I could not get rid of the "Vietnamese" influence on my English. As the
years passed, I still lugged that same chair into the same decrepit bathroom, realizing more and more
every year that my dreams of gaining Richie's stature would never come true.

Abiotic Factors Of Tropical Rainforest
Mahayla Griggs
Abiotic Factors
Tropical Rainforest make up a total of 6% of all of earth's land surface. Not surprisingly though, it
produces 40% of all of earth's oxygen. There are 4 levels to the tropical rainforest; emergent, upper
canopy, understory, and forest floor. The rainforest received it's name because of it's self–watering
system. Plants release water into the atmosphere through transpiration. This moisture usually has no
place to go which creates a thick cloud cover over the rainforest causing the humid, hot, atmosphere.
In the the rainforests are large rivers that branch off into smaller rivers that help to provide water for
the entire forest.
Location/ Landscape
Rainforest are located around the equator. Known for their hot humid climates rainforest easily
thrive around the equator without issues.
Ecosystem Services
Tropical rainforest have many ecosystem services that they provide for the earth daily. Because of
the large amounts of plants, tropical rainforest are capable of helping to clean the air of pollutants.
Plants take in the bad air and produce air that is not filled with harmful pollutants. Tropical
rainforests also increase rainfall. The H2O that is released into the air has to go somewhere
eventually. It can not just stay in the cloud that surrounds the forest forever. So, it comes back down
as precipitation. The tropical rainforest allows humans to benefit financially. Humans are constantly
cutting down rainforest to use the lumber to

The Symbols Of The Scrolls
"Here we are," begins Ir'a, leading his archaeological group into a large room that appears to be a
library, the stone walls filled with well–preserved scrolls bound together by hemp ropes with various
symbols between the shelves and behind the scrolls. More floors were above and below, the center
of all of them empty so that the floors below can be seen, stairs going between the floors on the side
opposite where the group entered in from. "Now let's see if these scrolls say anything," begins Ir'a as
he picks out and unwraps a scroll that had the symbol of a familiar language. "Here's something I
can read..." he begins before beginning to quickly read the item. Garactum Shuni, day 53 of 1801,

"Here we are," Pacal tells Iklanui, Kethra, and Aranur as they walked into the library of the temple,
"I think there should be some context as to... wait, what is that?" Seeing something on the wall,
Pacal looked closer at some symbols on the shelf beneath the scrolls stored in the library. In a rather
unusual reaction, Pacal struck the wall with his staff, causing the stone to fall apart and the scrolls
there to come tumbling down. Since most of the scrolls in the library would be fairly important,
Kethra, Pacal, Aranur, and Iklanui scrambled to salvage whatever scrolls they could from the rubble.
"Good," states Pacal once they find all of the scrolls, "most of them suffered only minor damages. It
shouldn't be too much of an issue. What's with this hidden room though?" Another chilly wind blew
in from deep inside the temple, although it failed to extinguish the torches of the library chamber
and only blew out the torches in the previously hidden hallway. Noticing that a torch would not be
useful, Kethra summoned her two glowing axes and chains1 for lighting in the hallway, muttering

As I sat in my blue beanbag chair in the corner of the room one Sunday afternoon, with the neon
green window drapes next to me blowing and waving in the breeze, and a cup of tea in my hands, I
began to reminisce. Staring at the adjacent corner of the room, at the vertex where the ceiling and
two walls meet, I started to daydream.
Flashbacks occurred in my head of just two months ago, of my grandmother and I trekking
arduously through the snow, clutching a thermos in her hand. Despite the scraping cold wind

The carpet was a bright red, with salmon–colored wallpaper and bowl light fixtures above us that
hung every three doors down or so; they seemed to be the most lively objects we had seen today.
306 was on the right side, about halfway down the 3rd floor corridor on the west wing. Once my
grandmother and I arrived, we rang the doorbell, and a few minutes later my great–grandmother
appeared. We came in and greeted her like we always did, which really just consisted of asking her
how she was doing, but her response was made all the difference. At 90 years old, she was a very
healthy woman. At that particular moment, she was probably healthier than us as we sat on her
couch coughing and sniffling. She did not have a record of diseases. She had a tendency of a few
quirks here and there, but nothing too out of the ordinary.
We gave her the thermos; she opened it up and began drinking the yellow bean and carrot soup
slowly. She offered us some packaged snacks, but we declined. We just wanted to rest in the warm
heat of the apartment and be with my great–grandmother. I found solace in being in her presence
and I slowly drifted asleep.
I awoke to my great–grandmother singing one of those random tunes your elders sing at home and

The Effects Of Durian And Its Effects On America
Ever since I had moved to the United States, whenever I mention the fruit, "durian", most people (if
not all), will look at me in confusion, as if asking: "What is this fruit called durian?" And I would
answer: "Uh, beats me, it is a very stinky and disgusting fruit. That should be about right." Naturally
my American friends would get grossed out, thus losing interest quickly, and we can move to
another topic. However, there were days where people would keep locking eyes with me,
demanding a further explanation, then I would have to tell them what does it look like, the taste, and
the most terrifying, the smell. Durian is a very special fruit, deemed as the King of Fruits by many
Asian folks. It possesses a dark green color like that of a rose's leaves, and covering the somewhat–
rounded fruit's skin were rows of sharp spikes, as if attaching a chain to it would immediately turn it
into a medieval weapon. It has a very unique look among its family tree (only jackfruit looks
similar, for only fifty percent, as its spikes were not as sharp as those of durian). The very first
impression when people look at a durian would be "Ouch!" as if it can inflict pain just by being
looked at. The King of Fruits must be handle with thick/heavy duty gloves or blood will shed from
the mortal flesh and tears shall fall on the Mother Earth. And if the look does not scare you away,
the smell will, the smell definitely will. My first encounter with this monstrosity was on the year

Treasure Hunters Secret Of The Forbidden City Analysis
1) "Even at fifty paces, he stank. (pg. 211)" This description made me think that the guy smelled so
bad, that he never takes a shower or that he just got thrown into a pile of rotting rats, and rotting
durian which is the smelliest fruit in the world. This description made me remember the time that I
was with my dad in New York and we passed this place that the garbage was all thrown onto the
sidewalk. It stank so bad that you could smell it from a mile away. Another description is "Tommy
stretched out his arms to shield her and block Streck ting's advance. (pg. 360)" When I read this part
I was shocked by what Tommy did. It showed how brave he was and how protective he is about his
siblings and his friend. To do that kind of stuff you have to have a lot of will and courage. 2)
Treasure Hunters Secret of the Forbidden City is a really good story in my opinion. The only thing is
that you have to read the books in order because this is a series in order to understand wants to
happen, but I would recommend reading this story. In the story, the author includes a different
language. For example, they said, "The Munich police are even letting us borrow their
Hubschrauber." which stands for a helicopter in German. Another good thing that the author
includes in the story is some historical facts. For example, they are trying to find the missing art that
the Nazis stole from the Jews in WWII. The best part, in my opinion, is that it feels like your right

Let Me Know You Essay
Let Me Know You
My work "Let Me Know You" is a performance: without the audiences knowing what is going to
happen, I sniff their body from toe to head like an animal, with no physical touching. The most of
audiences feel uncomfortable during the performance, others, try to sniff me back at the same time.
Humans are commonly known to have five primary senses: sight, hearing, taste, touching and smell,
governed by five important organs: eyes, ears, tongue, skin and nose. Smell is often ignored ,
though, it plays an important role in our daily life without people noticing it. The purpose of my
performance is to remind people to explore all their senses, be more aware of the surroundings and
their own body. I developed new respects on objects that we see daily, and grew more appreciations
of human nature.
Scent takes a much important position in animal's world. People who have pets often notice that cats
take long time to find biscuits near their face. It is because their sights are bad in short distance, and
they rely on nose to locate food; in the wild, big cats spray urine to make their territory, average 300
square kilometers; in the water, a shark can sense one drop of blood in a million drops of water;
dogs smells each others' anus at the first time they meet, they only shut down their tails to hide their
odour when they are scared or dominated. Human, instead, are trying to conceal body odour as
much as they can. Being "smelly" is seen as rude and insanitary. Shampoos

Food Is Essential For A Culture Essay
Food has been a staple in cultures since the beginning of human history. Besides needing food for
nourishment, it is an accumulation of a culture's environment, rituals, history, and wealth. Therefore,
food is both an evolutionary and cultural necessity. In fact, food is vital for a culture as it nourishes
and connects the group of people within said culture. As the Earth and its cultures become more
globalized, food has evolved to become a teacher that showcases the many cultures inhabiting the
planet. But, one person can only become accustomed to a low percentage of food, offered around the
world, throughout his or her life. Thus, the food one person usually knows and likes is the food from
one's own culture. Most people, untrusting of what other exotic cultures offer, are disgusted by what
others consider delicacies. This trust, and distrust, creates, in a human's mind, four categories of
food: distasteful, disgusting, tasteful, and delicious. Inherently, humans classify foods by what foods
one is comfortable around and by foods one is not comfortable around, or more precisely by what is
delicious and tasteful and what is distasteful and disgusting. This happens from an evolutionary
stand point and a cultural stand point. Specifically, culture evokes, within majority of the foods in
the present–day globalized world, the categories disgusting and delicious, whereas nature and
evolution evoke distasteful and tasteful reactions.
To begin to understand why some foods are

Analysis of the Orangutan Pongo Pygmaeus
The orangutan, Pongo pygmaeus, is an ape that is found in the moist, coastal rainforests of Sumatra
and Borneo which consists of Indonesia's Kalimantan provinces, Malaysia's Sabath and Sarawak,
and the kingdom of Brunei Darussalam. Orangutans live in tropical rainforests and are arboreal
primates meaning that they are tree dwelling. Orangutans construct nests in the tree branches for the
night in which they will curl up and sleep. These nests are made out of leaves and branches and they
will sometimes use a leaf as a roof to protect themselves from the rain. Orangutans are omnivores,
which means they eat a variety of meat and plants. They primarily eat fruit, leaves and small
animals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hierarchy among orangutans is the Noayu, which is where there is a solitary male. There is
marked sexual dimorphism among the orangutans. Females weigh only half as much as the males.
Being lighter, females and juveniles often stay in the trees. Not only is there a noticeable difference
in size, but males also possess quite a few different characteristics than female orangutans do. For
example, males have big cheek pads and facial hair that resembles a man's moustache and beard.
The numbers or orangutans have recently dropped tremendously owing to loss of habitat to
deforestation and the killing of females for their young, to be sold as pets or zoo animals. Fewer
than 30,000 individuals are believed to remain in the wild, and the species is listed as endangered
(Galdkias, 1987) In relation to my observation, the orangutans acted very similar in captivity as if
they were in the wild. The space was limited, but for what they had to work with, they displayed
many of the behaviors they would have given they were in the wild. I noticed that the males
remained solitary, as proven in my research. In one instance, Kiko approached his sister and they
groomed for a short amount of time, and Kiko went into a different section of the enclosure and
remained by himself until the end of my observation. Junior, the dominating male, and father of
Kiko, also stayed confined to himself. There was absolutely no interaction between Junior

Food And Drink Industries Companies
Introduction
As we all know, taste and smell are a "must have" for food and drink industries and one can easily
imagine that these characteristics can be a clear differentiating factor on the "the more the better"
axis in the pharmaceutical, packaging or environmental sectors.
Many companies usually use human taste panels to measure taste and smell. However, human nose
is very sensitive and experts can control panels. Accordingly, this approach can carry a lot of
variation over time. Moreover, this process is time consuming, costly and limited by the number of
samples that can be tested. It requires involving people from outside of the company so it is needed
to deal with issues like confidentiality, safety and public image. Based on any ... Show more content

The results that are related to human data can make this measurement as "absolute" as possible.
In the measure phase, the advantage of E–noses and E–tongues is that they could reduce cycle times
for each measurement as much as 80 or 90 percent, improve repeatability and reproducibility across
data collection and acquire the data with lower price. Also, in the improving and control phase, E–
noses and E–tongues can help to design and implement experiments for given objects to find
optimal process conditions. It is also worth mentioning that the new measurement system can handle
changes and sustain the profitable performance in a long–term perspective. This project was focused
on illustrating how E–noses and E–tongues help companies to improve their CTQs. So, although
DMAIC team did not have a specific plan and timeline for any specific company, the project can
still get a medium grade for the first criteria since they completed their primary goal which consisted
in analyzing the benefits of using E–noses and E–tongues to help companies improve their product
performance.
Application of Six Sigma Tools One of the most important segments is to use the tools and
techniques in a correct and proper way within the Six Sigma application. In the project's beginning,
a Kano model was used to indicate how the "Soft attributes" such as Tastes as a differentiating factor

My Day In Thailand
I remembered when I fell down the tall lime tree. I remembered wrapping around my friend's arms,
jumping and running like crazy and singing along with them after school. But when they don't wrap
their arms around me, I would cry and felt lonely. I don't know why I would cry just for that. Well,
here's a story of my day in Thailand. Preschool was fun for me in Thailand. The teachers taught us
how to sing different songs about our culture and the alphabets. We also did some math problems
too. I totally forgot what I learned specifically now though. I was known as the best student in my
class. My short tempered teacher would often say something like, "be more like Pleh Meh. Pleh
Meh is your role model." I liked it when she says that, but I didn't felt like I deserved to be called the
best student though. Anyways, our school lunch was pretty good. They cooked chicken with mixed
vegetables such as beans, broccoli, and potatoes. It was my favorite. Oh and I hate the bathroom that
is close to my preschool. It was so old, there were small holes on the walls and it looked like it was
about to fall down. It was tiny. It also had no locks on them! When I need to use the restroom, some
of my friends would peek and I felt so uncomfortable that I don't want to use it. Now I think about
it, I'm not even sure if there was a toilet inside or was there just a dirt hole. After school, I would

Therefore, HR did not have the power of decision making. Lack of transparent communication is the
second issue in this case. TechSoft missing opportunities for growth and collaboration because the

Strategic human resource management (SHRM) is, indeed, one of the most pivotal concepts in
today's business and management field. It is because SHRM sets the vision of HR and it also a
critical HR decision making tool (Wang, 2010). A successful HR strategy can be implemented in the
long run to improve the overall employee motivation along with productivity so as to improve
business performance and develop organizational culture that nurture innovation, flexibility and
competitive advantage (Ulrich, Brockbank & Johnson, 2009). Therefore, SHRM is the important in

3.0 Strategy and Evaluation
3.1 Strategies
The first and the important step for implement HR strategy is to foster organizational alignment.
That is because implementing strategy means carving deeper relationships between inter–dependent
organizational units, such as sales and marketing, finance, manufacturing and customer service.
Foster the alignment between each department could help HR collect a huge amount of data on
organizational effectiveness than often gets ignored, like current and long–term measures of
employee engagement, turnover and effectiveness (Bogdanovic, Durian & Cingula, 2016). In
addition, foster the communicating in an organization can help HR gain feedback that ensures their

War And Western Influence On The Country Of Rambutan

  • 1. War And Western Influence On The Country Of Rambutan It has been years since I abdicated my thrown in favor of a Kaufman system. This allowed political elites to dominate the country's wealth, leading to extraordinary inequality. The productivity necessary to develop the economy was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You can chat with them, go to their town, and even convince their animals that live there to move to your town! But there's even more! You can escape to an island paradise and go on tours there and meet people and get exotic fruits for your town. You can even get seashells there. Oh! and you can go deep sea diving with a wetsuit and collect slugs, crabs, octopi, and more! But my favorite part about Animal Crossing: New Leaf, is how every hour the background music changes. Like in the morning, 9am has a happy cheery song, and how 1am has a sad, sleepy song that makes you tired. But if you're up late on Animal Crossing, all the stores will be closed. Rowan Jacobsen's Fruitless Fall: The Collapse of the Honey Bee and the Coming Agricultural Crisis reminded me of the movie, The Lorax, when all the trees were cut down to make scarf, and the town became an inhabitable place to live. The people there had moved into a high fenced area where they had to buy oxygen in large gallons. Similar to the opening chapter: Breakfast in America of the book, Fruitless Fall, besides being an omnivore, I am also a frugivore, and that basically mean I eat fruit almost every day especially for breakfast–cherries, berries, apple, banana, and any other fruits I can find in Morris or Alexandria. However, my favorite fruit of all is the king of fruits, the durian. As the Rowan Jacobsen (2008) mentioned in Fruitless Fall, most of the plants cannot reproduce and produce the fruits without insects. The author further wrote insects play an important role being the "sexual handmaidens to the flowering plants (Jacobsen, pg. 21)". And now, these handmaidens especially the honey bees are declining globally. Jacobsen's objectives in writing Fruitless Fall: The Collapse of the Honey Bee and the Coming Agricultural Crisis, are the world's bees disappearance, pollinator crisis, and the overall the incline of human agricultural crisis. Flashbacks occurred in my head of just two months ago, of my grandmother and I trekking arduously through the snow, clutching a thermos in her hand. Despite the scraping cold wind blowing in our face, we pushed through. We moved slowly, inch by inch, but as long as we made it to the senior apartment building we would have done our job. People could rarely be seen even in the Financial District of the city ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The carpet was a bright red, with salmon–colored wallpaper and bowl light fixtures above us that hung every three doors down or so; they seemed to be the most lively objects we had seen today. 306 was on the right side, about halfway down the 3rd floor corridor on the west wing. Once my grandmother and I arrived, we rang the doorbell, and a few minutes later my great–grandmother appeared. We came in and greeted her like we always did, which really just consisted of asking her how she was doing, but her response was made all the difference. At 90 years old, she was a very healthy woman. At that particular moment, she was probably healthier than us as we sat on her couch coughing and sniffling. She did not have a record of diseases. She had a tendency of a few quirks here and there, but nothing too out of the ordinary. We gave her the thermos; she opened it up and began drinking the yellow bean and carrot soup slowly. She offered us some packaged snacks, but we declined. We just wanted to rest in the warm heat of the apartment and be with my great–grandmother. I found solace in being in her presence and I slowly drifted asleep. I awoke to my great–grandmother singing one of those random tunes your elders sing at home and you're always unsure if your elders made it up on the spot or was a legitimate song, but you hear constantly over and over again. She was singing as she washed her hands in the bathroom. When my eyes cleared, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. The Effects Of Durian And Its Effects On America Ever since I had moved to the United States, whenever I mention the fruit, "durian", most people (if not all), will look at me in confusion, as if asking: "What is this fruit called durian?" And I would answer: "Uh, beats me, it is a very stinky and disgusting fruit. That should be about right." Naturally my American friends would get grossed out, thus losing interest quickly, and we can move to another topic. However, there were days where people would keep locking eyes with me, demanding a further explanation, then I would have to tell them what does it look like, the taste, and the most terrifying, the smell. Durian is a very special fruit, deemed as the King of Fruits by many Asian folks. It possesses a dark green color like that of a rose's leaves, and covering the somewhat– rounded fruit's skin were rows of sharp spikes, as if attaching a chain to it would immediately turn it into a medieval weapon. It has a very unique look among its family tree (only jackfruit looks similar, for only fifty percent, as its spikes were not as sharp as those of durian). The very first impression when people look at a durian would be "Ouch!" as if it can inflict pain just by being looked at. The King of Fruits must be handle with thick/heavy duty gloves or blood will shed from the mortal flesh and tears shall fall on the Mother Earth. And if the look does not scare you away, the smell will, the smell definitely will. My first encounter with this monstrosity was on the year 1999, a four ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Treasure Hunters Secret Of The Forbidden City Analysis 1) "Even at fifty paces, he stank. (pg. 211)" This description made me think that the guy smelled so bad, that he never takes a shower or that he just got thrown into a pile of rotting rats, and rotting durian which is the smelliest fruit in the world. This description made me remember the time that I was with my dad in New York and we passed this place that the garbage was all thrown onto the sidewalk. It stank so bad that you could smell it from a mile away. Another description is "Tommy stretched out his arms to shield her and block Streck ting's advance. (pg. 360)" When I read this part I was shocked by what Tommy did. It showed how brave he was and how protective he is about his siblings and his friend. To do that kind of stuff you have to have a lot of will and courage. 2) Treasure Hunters Secret of the Forbidden City is a really good story in my opinion. The only thing is that you have to read the books in order because this is a series in order to understand wants to happen, but I would recommend reading this story. In the story, the author includes a different language. For example, they said, "The Munich police are even letting us borrow their Hubschrauber." which stands for a helicopter in German. Another good thing that the author includes in the story is some historical facts. For example, they are trying to find the missing art that the Nazis stole from the Jews in WWII. The best part, in my opinion, is that it feels like your right there when the action ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Let Me Know You Essay Let Me Know You My work "Let Me Know You" is a performance: without the audiences knowing what is going to happen, I sniff their body from toe to head like an animal, with no physical touching. The most of audiences feel uncomfortable during the performance, others, try to sniff me back at the same time. Humans are commonly known to have five primary senses: sight, hearing, taste, touching and smell, governed by five important organs: eyes, ears, tongue, skin and nose. Smell is often ignored , though, it plays an important role in our daily life without people noticing it. The purpose of my performance is to remind people to explore all their senses, be more aware of the surroundings and their own body. I developed new respects on objects that we see daily, and grew more appreciations of human nature. Scent takes a much important position in animal's world. People who have pets often notice that cats take long time to find biscuits near their face. It is because their sights are bad in short distance, and they rely on nose to locate food; in the wild, big cats spray urine to make their territory, average 300 square kilometers; in the water, a shark can sense one drop of blood in a million drops of water; dogs smells each others' anus at the first time they meet, they only shut down their tails to hide their odour when they are scared or dominated. Human, instead, are trying to conceal body odour as much as they can. Being "smelly" is seen as rude and insanitary. Shampoos ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Food Is Essential For A Culture Essay Food has been a staple in cultures since the beginning of human history. Besides needing food for nourishment, it is an accumulation of a culture's environment, rituals, history, and wealth. Therefore, food is both an evolutionary and cultural necessity. In fact, food is vital for a culture as it nourishes and connects the group of people within said culture. As the Earth and its cultures become more globalized, food has evolved to become a teacher that showcases the many cultures inhabiting the planet. But, one person can only become accustomed to a low percentage of food, offered around the world, throughout his or her life. Thus, the food one person usually knows and likes is the food from one's own culture. Most people, untrusting of what other exotic cultures offer, are disgusted by what others consider delicacies. This trust, and distrust, creates, in a human's mind, four categories of food: distasteful, disgusting, tasteful, and delicious. Inherently, humans classify foods by what foods one is comfortable around and by foods one is not comfortable around, or more precisely by what is delicious and tasteful and what is distasteful and disgusting. This happens from an evolutionary stand point and a cultural stand point. Specifically, culture evokes, within majority of the foods in the present–day globalized world, the categories disgusting and delicious, whereas nature and evolution evoke distasteful and tasteful reactions. Analysis of the Orangutan Pongo Pygmaeus Essay Analysis of the Orangutan Pongo Pygmaeus The orangutan, Pongo pygmaeus, is an ape that is found in the moist, coastal rainforests of Sumatra and Borneo which consists of Indonesia's Kalimantan provinces, Malaysia's Sabath and Sarawak, and the kingdom of Brunei Darussalam. Orangutans live in tropical rainforests and are arboreal primates meaning that they are tree dwelling. Orangutans construct nests in the tree branches for the night in which they will curl up and sleep. These nests are made out of leaves and branches and they will sometimes use a leaf as a roof to protect themselves from the rain. Orangutans are omnivores, which means they eat a variety of meat and plants. They primarily eat fruit, leaves and small animals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hierarchy among orangutans is the Noayu, which is where there is a solitary male. There is marked sexual dimorphism among the orangutans. Females weigh only half as much as the males. Being lighter, females and juveniles often stay in the trees. Not only is there a noticeable difference in size, but males also possess quite a few different characteristics than female orangutans do. For example, males have big cheek pads and facial hair that resembles a man's moustache and beard. The numbers or orangutans have recently dropped tremendously owing to loss of habitat to deforestation and the killing of females for their young, to be sold as pets or zoo animals. Fewer than 30,000 individuals are believed to remain in the wild, and the species is listed as endangered (Galdkias, 1987) In relation to my observation, the orangutans acted very similar in captivity as if they were in the wild. The space was limited, but for what they had to work with, they displayed many of the behaviors they would have given they were in the wild. I noticed that the males remained solitary, as proven in my research. In one instance, Kiko approached his sister and they groomed for a short amount of time, and Kiko went into a different section of the enclosure and remained by himself until the end of my observation. Junior, the dominating male, and father of Kiko, also stayed confined to himself. There was absolutely no interaction between Junior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Food And Drink Industries Companies Introduction As we all know, taste and smell are a "must have" for food and drink industries and one can easily imagine that these characteristics can be a clear differentiating factor on the "the more the better" axis in the pharmaceutical, packaging or environmental sectors. Many companies usually use human taste panels to measure taste and smell. However, human nose is very sensitive and experts can control panels. Accordingly, this approach can carry a lot of variation over time. Moreover, this process is time consuming, costly and limited by the number of samples that can be tested. In the measure phase, the advantage of E–noses and E–tongues is that they could reduce cycle times for each measurement as much as 80 or 90 percent, improve repeatability and reproducibility across data collection and acquire the data with lower price. Also, in the improving and control phase, E– noses and E–tongues can help to design and implement experiments for given objects to find optimal process conditions. It is also worth mentioning that the new measurement system can handle changes and sustain the profitable performance in a long–term perspective. But when they don't wrap their arms around me, I would cry and felt lonely. I don't know why I would cry just for that. Well, here's a story of my day in Thailand. Preschool was fun for me in Thailand. The teachers taught us how to sing different songs about our culture and the alphabets. We also did some math problems too. I totally forgot what I learned specifically now though. I was known as the best student in my class. My short tempered teacher would often say something like, "be more like Pleh Meh. Pleh Meh is your role model." I liked it when she says that, but I didn't felt like I deserved to be called the best student though. Anyways, our school lunch was pretty good. They cooked chicken with mixed vegetables such as beans, broccoli, and potatoes. It was my favorite. Oh and I hate the bathroom that is close to my preschool. It was so old, there were small holes on the walls and it looked like it was about to fall down. It was tiny. It also had no locks on them! When I need to use the restroom, some of my friends would peek and I felt so uncomfortable that I don't want to use it. Now I think about it, I'm not even sure if there was a toilet inside or was there just a dirt hole. After school, I would mostly go hang out with my friend Beh Meh.
