Technology Systems Recommendations in Healthcare
Technology Systems Recommendations in Healthcare
Information Management
Technology systems are vital components in healthcare
information management. Choosing the best technology system
is also important. In the context of Featherfall medical Centre,
the current technology is not efficient and there is need to
recommend new technology system. In this scenario,
Admission, Discharge and Transfer (ADT) system can work best
for this medical Centre.
Featherfall medical center is experiencing issues of efficiency,
ethical problems and governing regulation with regard to their
current technology. Considering the current state at Featherfall
medical center, the existing technological system gap has to be
filled by establishment of the Admission, Discharge and
Transfer (ADT) system. This system meets the need of the
medical facility by ensuring that patients data is shared across
all the departments of the facility on real time bases (Brown,
2017). Since the system employs the use of the latest health
information technology, efficiency and compliance will be met
by the new technology. Ethical issues resulting from outdated
systems will also be addressed.
Regulations and Law Abiding in The Recommended Technology
System.
The most important component in ADT systems is that is Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability compliant. Its frequent
updates ensure up to date validity and improvement of the
system making it more sophisticated to internal external threats.
The system also ensures security of patients’ information and
data by use of user profiles where each medical staff has limited
access the authorized data only. ADT systems are legal in
United States healthcare system thus acquiring the right licenses
and compliance will be easily achieved.
Staff Needs
ADT systems are user friendly and require simple training to
use them. The real time dissemination of patient information
and transfer of data from one department to another making ease
access (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2017). This will meet staff needs
by communicating and passing patients information across the
healthcare facility departments alerting the staff in case they
were not aware of some of the patient’s information whether
admission, discharge or transfer. Relaying of patients’
information across departments will also help in tracing patients
and the treatments they have been given. Improvement of
service delivery and treatment efficiency will be facilitated as it
is the need of the medical staff at this healthcare facility.
Financial Investment in The Technology System
Investing in the ADT system will be a great advantage of
Featherfall medical center. The ADT system has a high level of
accuracy that minimizes operational costs by minimizing errors
and eradicating unwanted staff duties. The system can perform
duties that could have been performed by employing several
staff. Efficient operations minimize the amount of operational
capital and its implementation means more financial
regulations.
Ethical Management of Health Information
In Featherfall Medical Centre, ADT system encompasses the
concept of ad hoc report and user profile password. It’s an
ethical requirement to protect health information (Chrimes,
Kuo, Moa, & Hu, 2017). This concept ensured security of
patients’ information and prevent access of unauthorized data
and information. All the stakeholders are limited to their user
profiles and the profiled data. In this regard, the system
ensured ethical management of the information.
Monitoring The Use of the Technology System
Featherfall Medical Centre can employ the application of
surveillance by public health officers. Public officers can
conduct survey on the use of the system to get information on
the use of the system. Another aspect in monitoring of the
system can be connecting monitoring devices that record the
system usage. These two methods can work efficiently in
monitoring ADT systems at Featherfall healthcare facility.
ADT System require minimal time for its establishment. A span
of about four months can be long enough to implement this
technology due to its user friendly features. The system is also
works very fast and little time is used to process medical
information. It therefore important to note that this technology
system is time efficient.
Conclusion
In summations, Featherfall Medical Center need a technology
that is suitable to address the existing challenges. ADT can be a
reasonable recommendation as it is efficient considering, the
needs, ethical issues, financial investment, monitoring and time
investments. Law and regulation is also a concern for this
system thus its recommendable for its establishment.

Health regulations and law ramification
Health regulations and law ramification
The healthcare is operating under a license issued by the
government, and the technology and privacy Acts apply
appropriately. First and foremost, Featherfall has failed due to
the non-compliance, which is punishable by law, through hefty
fines and cancellation of the license. The technology used must,
therefore, be up to date and compliant with the laws and
regulations such as HIPAA. The major purpose of the
regulations is to ensure that the healthcare facility provides
better services to the patients by handling all data and
communications through the right channels (Vincent, Niezen,
O'Kane, & Stawarz, 2015). The violations if not well handled,
can affect the healthcare organization in many ways, such as the
financial, the daily operations, and the security of the
organization even though all the three sectors are intertwined.
Using the technology that is not up to date or using it
inappropriately will lead to healthcare breaches on data. Any
data breach can cost the organization up to $380 per record.
Among other Civil Money Penalties is the data breach which
arises from such mistakes. Medical personnel who are not
conversant with the health-related technology may leak another
person’s medical data, and the person may go to court as a
result for a data breach (Nelson, & Staggers, 2016). Featherfall
will have to pay the fine, which will affect its financials. The
covered entities in the healthcare include health plans,
healthcare clearinghouse, medical prescription, and cared
supply must all be done appropriately. To get it right and avoid
such fines due to the violation, the technology must be updated
once it becomes obsolete, and the personnel should also be
trained to be compliant.
The daily operations of the organization will be affected by the
violations, for example, if the organization has not updated its
technology, the online medical ordering will not be done on
time, and the hospital may run out of medicine leading to delays
in service delivery (Kramer, Kinn, & Mishkind, 2015). The
internal communications rely heavily on the technology use,
some urgent situations that need a decision to be made will
require using the appropriate technology to communicate, it will
not happen, and therefore other delays will be experienced. It is
therefore very important to ensure that the technology is up to
date and the people are also trained and understand how to use
the same (Vincent, Niezen, O'Kane, & Stawarz, 2015). The
daily operations include communication, sharing of data
between nurses, doctors, and laboratory personnel. If the
appropriate technology and technical skill do not well connect
the process, the daily operations will be paralyzed.
The world today is referred to as the information age, and
criminal activities are carried out over the Internet. If the
appropriate technology is not used, it will be easier for
cybercriminals to infiltrate the system, and the result will be
corporate espionage (Nelson, & Staggers, 2016). If private
information is vulnerable, Featherfall’s competitors may use
that opportunity to bring down the organization. Leaking
information can also attract criminals to take hostage some
patients and medical personnel. When a patient has been
diagnosed with a deadly disease like HIV/AIDS, the information
is regarded as private and confidential. When a malicious third
party gets the information, he may demand money from the
patient or threaten to “spill the beans.” In a nutshell, therefore,
the healthcare organization has no choice but to comply with all
the laws and regulations about technology, it will flourish.

HISTORY OF HEALTHCARE INFORMATION
MANAGEMENT 5
History of Healthcare information management
History of Healthcare information management
Healthcare information management in United states has
witnessed great development since the start of healthcare
information management. Healthcare information management
can be traced from the early 19th century when it was realized
that keeping healthcare information was important in the
healthcare sector. The need to improve health records
necessitated the need to develop healthcare information
management systems and the pioneer was the American College
of Surgeon. Considering the case of Featherfall medical centre,
the current health information management has to be in
consideration with current laws governing the Electronic
Records management.
Historical Events in Health Information Management
During the early 1920’s, professional healthcare providers
discovered that documenting health information was relevant to
both the healthcare providers and the patients. The American
College of Surgeon started health information management by
establishing a professional association that was named
American Association of Record Librarians due to increasing
number of medical and health record.
The information age was a period can be traced in early 1960’s
and 1970’s. This period was characterised by development of
computer technology. Healthcare information management took
a different dimension during this period. Development of
computers necessitated the need to associate health records with
computers. Electronic health records made advancement in
storage of medical information efficiency in terms of healthcare
provision (Ludwick & Doucette, 2009) Institutions of higher
learning and in most cases universities, coordinated with health
facilities to record and generate patient information
electronically. Health information electronically recorded was
only accessible at the health facilities only.
The major concern during this period was establishment of
single software to perform different health activities in 1980’s
and 1990’s. The development of different software enabled use
of computerised services in pharmaceutical activities,
laboratory activities and patient registration. Smaller computers
were developed and each health department had access to
computer facilities in managing and recording patient
information. The development of master patient index was an
important success as it was a database for all the information
from different departments of health facilities.
The previous versions of software were not accurate and errors
led to medical problems. In the Millennium Medical Records
Management, challenges made health professionals to seek
sophisticated software to address the challenges. The aim was to
provide viable healthcare and search for new electronic health
record was invaded. President George Bush called to
computerized health record management in the state of union
address in 2004. Barrack Obama in 2009 passed American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) (Honek, Azar &
Menassa, 2011). The act advocated for implementation of
electronic health management.
Standard Technology at Featherfall
The current standard technologies encompass electronic health
records, chronic disease management systems, and other
systems that generate patient information electronically. This
technology plays important roles in healthcare improvements.
Considering the case of Feather fall medical centre,
advancement in health information is still not fully recognized.
Feather fall medical centre should have the focus on
implementing and training health professionals on application
of electronic health records management system. The systems
implemented should have concerns for management of patients’
data with concerns on privacy of the data stored electronically.
Electronic health information management has developed to
include systems that can communicate and share patient’s
information regionally thus improving information sharing in
different health facilities (Angst & Agarwal, 2009). Electronic
Health Record systems are already in used as opposed to the
past use of paper documentation. Struggles are still made to
realize reliable and accurate electronic health record systems in
order to efficiently manage health information.
Technology Guidelines
Featherfall medical centre will require to implement electronic
health records to enable record management, sharing of
patient’s data nationwide among other health facilities in order
to realize relevant healthcare treatments.
Overview of Roles at Featherfall
In a medical facility, the roles and duties of every staff should
be clearly outlined. Nurse and the administrative staffs should
have their roles outlined in order to avoid lapse in the operation
of the featherfall medical centre. Consultants will have the role
of training the staff on the usage of electronic medical devices
to manage all activities of the medical facility.
Evaluation of The New Health Information Technology
Systems.
Additionally, an evaluation of the current health information
systems could be done by testing the existing systems to see if
they function as expected. Several agencies are involved in
evaluating health information systems. Department of Health
and Human Services and Agency for Healthcare Research
provide guideline in evaluation of health information systems.
Evaluations Testing may be based on efficiency, accuracy and
security of information as per the law requirements concerning
electronic information.
Conclusion.
Health information management has come a long way with
notable changes and advancements. From paper documentation
to electronic documentation, health records management is still
a focus to many health professionals. The concern for reliable
healthcare information management necessitates dynamic nature
of the electronic health records management in United States
and the entire world.

Running head: RECOMMENDED TECHNOLOGY IN HEALTHCARE 1 TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS RECOMMENDATIONS 2 Technology Systems Recommendations in Healthcare Technology Systems Recommendations in Healthcare Information Management Technology systems are vital components in healthcare information management. Choosing the best technology system is also important. In the context of Featherfall medical Centre, the current technology is not efficient and there is need to recommend new technology system. In this scenario, Admission, Discharge and Transfer (ADT) system can work best for this medical Centre. Featherfall medical center is experiencing issues of efficiency,
  • 7. ethical problems and governing regulation with regard to their current technology. Considering the current state at Featherfall medical center, the existing technological system gap has to be filled by establishment of the Admission, Discharge and Transfer (ADT) system. This system meets the need of the medical facility by ensuring that patients data is shared across all the departments of the facility on real time bases (Brown, 2017). Since the system employs the use of the latest health information technology, efficiency and compliance will be met by the new technology. Ethical issues resulting from outdated systems will also be addressed. Regulations and Law Abiding in The Recommended Technology System. The most important component in ADT systems is that is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability compliant. Its frequent updates ensure up to date validity and improvement of the system making it more sophisticated to internal external threats. The system also ensures security of patients’ information and data by use of user profiles where each medical staff has limited access the authorized data only. ADT systems are legal in United States healthcare system thus acquiring the right licenses and compliance will be easily achieved. Staff Needs ADT systems are user friendly and require simple training to use them. The real time dissemination of patient information and transfer of data from one department to another making ease access (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2017). This will meet staff needs by communicating and passing patients information across the healthcare facility departments alerting the staff in case they were not aware of some of the patient’s information whether admission, discharge or transfer. Relaying of patients’ information across departments will also help in tracing patients and the treatments they have been given. Improvement of service delivery and treatment efficiency will be facilitated as it

The ADT system has a high level of accuracy that minimizes operational costs by minimizing errors and eradicating unwanted staff duties. The system can perform duties that could have been performed by employing several staff. Efficient operations minimize the amount of operational capital and its implementation means more financial regulations. Ethical Management of Health Information In Featherfall Medical Centre, ADT system encompasses the concept of ad hoc report and user profile password. It’s an ethical requirement to protect health information (Chrimes, Kuo, Moa, & Hu, 2017). This concept ensured security of patients’ information and prevent access of unauthorized data and information. All the stakeholders are limited to their user profiles and the profiled data. In this regard, the system ensured ethical management of the information. Monitoring The Use of the Technology System Featherfall Medical Centre can employ the application of surveillance by public health officers. Public officers can conduct survey on the use of the system to get information on the use of the system. Another aspect in monitoring of the system can be connecting monitoring devices that record the system usage. These two methods can work efficiently in monitoring ADT systems at Featherfall healthcare facility. ADT System require minimal time for its establishment. A span of about four months can be long enough to implement this technology due to its user friendly features. The system is also works very fast and little time is used to process medical information. It therefore important to note that this technology system is time efficient. Conclusion In summations, Featherfall Medical Center need a technology that is suitable to address the existing challenges. ADT can be a

  • 10. Health regulations and law ramification Health regulations and law ramification The healthcare is operating under a license issued by the government, and the technology and privacy Acts apply appropriately. First and foremost, Featherfall has failed due to the non-compliance, which is punishable by law, through hefty fines and cancellation of the license. The technology used must, therefore, be up to date and compliant with the laws and regulations such as HIPAA. The major purpose of the regulations is to ensure that the healthcare facility provides better services to the patients by handling all data and communications through the right channels (Vincent, Niezen, O'Kane, & Stawarz, 2015). The violations if not well handled, can affect the healthcare organization in many ways, such as the financial, the daily operations, and the security of the organization even though all the three sectors are intertwined. Using the technology that is not up to date or using it inappropriately will lead to healthcare breaches on data. Any data breach can cost the organization up to $380 per record. Among other Civil Money Penalties is the data breach which arises from such mistakes. Medical personnel who are not
  • 11. conversant with the health-related technology may leak another person’s medical data, and the person may go to court as a result for a data breach (Nelson, & Staggers, 2016). Featherfall will have to pay the fine, which will affect its financials. The covered entities in the healthcare include health plans, healthcare clearinghouse, medical prescription, and cared supply must all be done appropriately. To get it right and avoid such fines due to the violation, the technology must be updated once it becomes obsolete, and the personnel should also be trained to be compliant. The daily operations of the organization will be affected by the violations, for example, if the organization has not updated its technology, the online medical ordering will not be done on time, and the hospital may run out of medicine leading to delays in service delivery (Kramer, Kinn, & Mishkind, 2015). The internal communications rely heavily on the technology use, some urgent situations that need a decision to be made will require using the appropriate technology to communicate, it will not happen, and therefore other delays will be experienced. It is therefore very important to ensure that the technology is up to date and the people are also trained and understand how to use the same (Vincent, Niezen, O'Kane, & Stawarz, 2015). The daily operations include communication, sharing of data between nurses, doctors, and laboratory personnel. If the appropriate technology and technical skill do not well connect the process, the daily operations will be paralyzed. The world today is referred to as the information age, and criminal activities are carried out over the Internet. If the appropriate technology is not used, it will be easier for cybercriminals to infiltrate the system, and the result will be corporate espionage (Nelson, & Staggers, 2016). If private information is vulnerable, Featherfall’s competitors may use that opportunity to bring down the organization. Leaking information can also attract criminals to take hostage some patients and medical personnel. When a patient has been diagnosed with a deadly disease like HIV/AIDS, the information

When a malicious third party gets the information, he may demand money from the patient or threaten to “spill the beans.” In a nutshell, therefore, the healthcare organization has no choice but to comply with all the laws and regulations about technology, it will flourish. • 13. History of Healthcare information management Healthcare information management in United states has witnessed great development since the start of healthcare information management. Healthcare information management can be traced from the early 19th century when it was realized that keeping healthcare information was important in the healthcare sector. The need to improve health records necessitated the need to develop healthcare information management systems and the pioneer was the American College of Surgeon. Considering the case of Featherfall medical centre, the current health information management has to be in consideration with current laws governing the Electronic Records management. Historical Events in Health Information Management During the early 1920’s, professional healthcare providers discovered that documenting health information was relevant to both the healthcare providers and the patients. The American College of Surgeon started health information management by establishing a professional association that was named American Association of Record Librarians due to increasing number of medical and health record. The information age was a period can be traced in early 1960’s
  • 14. and 1970’s. This period was characterised by development of computer technology. Healthcare information management took a different dimension during this period. Development of computers necessitated the need to associate health records with computers. Electronic health records made advancement in storage of medical information efficiency in terms of healthcare provision (Ludwick & Doucette, 2009) Institutions of higher learning and in most cases universities, coordinated with health facilities to record and generate patient information electronically. Health information electronically recorded was only accessible at the health facilities only. The major concern during this period was establishment of single software to perform different health activities in 1980’s and 1990’s. The development of different software enabled use of computerised services in pharmaceutical activities, laboratory activities and patient registration. Smaller computers were developed and each health department had access to computer facilities in managing and recording patient information. The development of master patient index was an important success as it was a database for all the information from different departments of health facilities. The previous versions of software were not accurate and errors led to medical problems. In the Millennium Medical Records Management, challenges made health professionals to seek sophisticated software to address the challenges. The aim was to provide viable healthcare and search for new electronic health record was invaded. President George Bush called to computerized health record management in the state of union address in 2004. Barrack Obama in 2009 passed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) (Honek, Azar & Menassa, 2011). The act advocated for implementation of electronic health management. Standard Technology at Featherfall The current standard technologies encompass electronic health records, chronic disease management systems, and other systems that generate patient information electronically. This
  • 15. technology plays important roles in healthcare improvements. Considering the case of Feather fall medical centre, advancement in health information is still not fully recognized. Feather fall medical centre should have the focus on implementing and training health professionals on application of electronic health records management system. The systems implemented should have concerns for management of patients’ data with concerns on privacy of the data stored electronically. Electronic health information management has developed to include systems that can communicate and share patient’s information regionally thus improving information sharing in different health facilities (Angst & Agarwal, 2009). Electronic Health Record systems are already in used as opposed to the past use of paper documentation. Struggles are still made to realize reliable and accurate electronic health record systems in order to efficiently manage health information. Technology Guidelines Featherfall medical centre will require to implement electronic health records to enable record management, sharing of patient’s data nationwide among other health facilities in order to realize relevant healthcare treatments. Overview of Roles at Featherfall In a medical facility, the roles and duties of every staff should be clearly outlined. Nurse and the administrative staffs should have their roles outlined in order to avoid lapse in the operation of the featherfall medical centre. Consultants will have the role of training the staff on the usage of electronic medical devices to manage all activities of the medical facility. Evaluation of The New Health Information Technology Systems. Additionally, an evaluation of the current health information systems could be done by testing the existing systems to see if they function as expected. Several agencies are involved in evaluating health information systems. Department of Health and Human Services and Agency for Healthcare Research provide guideline in evaluation of health information systems.
  • 16. Evaluations Testing may be based on efficiency, accuracy and security of information as per the law requirements concerning electronic information. Conclusion. Health information management has come a long way with notable changes and advancements. From paper documentation to electronic documentation, health records management is still a focus to many health professionals. The concern for reliable healthcare information management necessitates dynamic nature of the electronic health records management in United States and the entire world. References Angst, C.
