20. Drip Irrigation benefits
• Drip system will supply the precise
amount of water and nutrients to every
plant in the field throughout the
growing season.
• if properly installed, managed, and
maintained,
21. Drip Irrigation Benefits
• Water and Nutrients:
– Precise water application- quantity
– Uniform application- quality
– Scheduling irrigation- interval
• Pest and Disease:
– Drip irrigation does not wet plant canopy
thus Less disease
– Drip system may be used as a tool to
implement Chemigation to the field
• Logistics:
– Field access for equipment- Agricultural
equipment can enter the field during and
after irrigation
22. Drip Irrigation Benefits
• Water use efficiency
– Less evaporation
– Less leaching
– Not effected by wind
– Match the transpiration
requirement of the crop
– Uniform application
23. Drip is the most efficient irrigation technique
• Water Use Efficiency (WUE), Definition-
• Percentage of water which applied is retained in root zone, for plant’s use
Irrigation
techniques
% of WUE
Farrow 40-50
sprinkler 70- 84
Drip 90- 95
24. Drip Irrigation Benefits
• Fertilizer use efficiency
– Fertilizer “spoon fed” into the root zone
– Reduced leaching, prevent ground water
contamination -> erosion
– 50-80% reduction in Nitrogen
– Uniform application of fertilizers across
the field
25. Drip Irrigation Benefits
• Chemigation Management
– Applying approved crop protection
materials enables an effective,
labor saving and uniform application
– Notice- use products which are
approved by manufacturer for use
with Drip irrigation -> density of the
fertilizer blend
• Follow manufacturer
instructions
26. Drip Irrigation Benefits
• Energy effective
– Drip has a low pressure demand, Thus
requires low energy, relatively to other
irrigation techniques
– Requires less pressure
– Greater Efficiency fewer pump hours (less
kW/h)
– Fewer tractor hours required (more
operations at one time ->
• Fertilizers and pesticides can be injected through
the drip
27. Drip Irrigation Benefits
• Environmentally Friendly
– Less leaching groundwater
– Less power usage – energy
conservation
– No Chemical drift
SUMMARY: more environmental friendly
34. Eolos

45. Selling considerations
!45
High flexibility
• Wall thickness: 5 – 40 mil.
• However… remember it is a large emitter so if using very thin wall (5 mil), installation equipment
needs to be very good
• Large range of flow rates:
• 0.8, 1.3, 1.6, 2.6 and 3.8 l/h
• Different roll lengths
• 250, 500 and 1,000m rolls also available
High reliability
• Trusted and used for over 25 years. Excellent for growers who are conservative
47. The Olympos PC Story
!47
• Eurodrip’s first flat PC drip line
• Development started in 2012 with goal for high performance compared to Netafim PC
• Uses computational fluid dynamic modelling to develop best flow path (see image)
• Launched in 2014
• New flow rates in development
48. Typical Grower
!48
• Permanent horticulture where PC is required for undulating terrains or
long-run lengths (nuts, citrus, vineyards, etc)
• Long-term SDI applications (e.g. sugar cane)
• Flat emitter allows for thin wall and also different diameter options and
thinner wall thickness that cylindrical cannot provide

53. Inlets – Maximum Velocity
• Water velocity decreases closer to the wall of tube
• Olympos PC is the tallest emitter in the industry.
• This height ensures that the inlets are away from the edge of the pipe and
therefore in higher water velocity area
• Unique design of Olympos PC
allows for this tall design while
still keeping a low Kd.
• The low Kd is achieved on a tall emitter
by having special curved edges that
reduce drag
• Therefore low Kd = low friction,
longer run lenghts
54. Longer run lengths – round edge design
• To reduce Kd (friction), Olympos PC emitters feature a unique round edge
design that allows for a tall emitter, but with low Kd
55. Outlet Pool
!55
Dripper Pool Area
Olympos 99,13 mm2
DripNet 63,25 mm2
• Olympos pool area is 36% larger than DripNet
• Olympos PC outlet features grooves on the perimeter walls that act as drain
channels, retaining sand and particles during shutdown to help prevent soil
ingestion

The result is longer run lengths

57. Selling considerations
!57
Flat drip line
• More flexibility. Multiple diameters and wall thicknesses
• Less cost to freight
Advanced design
• Launched in 2014 using latest computational design techniques
• Innovation
Pressure Compensating
• Easier to design
• Longer run lengths
• Can be used on undulating terrain (within pressure limits)
• More security that each plant will receive the correct amount of water
59. Why Drip in onions?
!59
• Higher yield total yield and
net yield
• Better early development =>
more ‘single centres’
• Better skin quality at harvest
• More uniform crop /
calibration
• Reduced weed devellopment
• Reduced risk of diseases
• Better water efficiency / less
water use
61. Basic for successful start => seedbed preparation
!61
Make sure the field is level and prepared level
• Grown in/on the soil =>
field needs to be level, good soil
structure
• Good seedbed => good early establishment
&
Even water movement in soil profile
• Onions are shallow rooting with relative
small
number => sensitive for compaction,
water uptake and mineral uptake

General balance of nutrients
needs per ton of bulb production
in kg/ton;
• N : 5 kg/Ton
• P : 1 Kg/Ton
• K : 4 Kg/Ton
• Ca : 1,2Kg/Ton
Be aware
20 - 50% of minerals is left after
harvest due to poor uptake by the
roots Potasium nitrate and Ca
nitrate are very good and efficient
products for fertigation.
66. !66
When and how to apply
• N , 30% around planting,
70% by fertigation
• K , 30 % around planting
70% by fertigation
• P , 100 % pre planting,
before seed bed preparation
• Ca , 100% by fertigation
Potasium nitrate and Ca nitrate
are good and efficient products for
fertigation
69. Drip irrigation for carrots
!69
Regarding Carrots we need to know:
- spacing of the rows
- are the rows double or single?
- the spacing of the rows
- type of the soil: sandy or clay
We reccomed Eolos 20 or 30 cm spacing
Plese stick to one rule:
Distance from the carrot to the emiter shouldn’t be more than 20cm,
please look at the drawing below.
70. 70
Drip irrigation for carrots
In principle you can do the same as with
Potato and other crops planted on
ridges , see attached photo's . Make a
ridge with the rotovator or ridge maken
and install the tape in the same time so
you are 100 % sure it is in the middle ,
and than follow with the seeder with a
good system to centre over the ridge
and you are ok.
