Starting with Qualcomm the "monopoly" wifi chipset provider, QC announced
snapdragon 835 processor in CES 2016, while the form factor and features
looks stunning what we focus here is of course the wifi part, ***drum roll*** Im
so happy to see that this chip supports 80211ad and wave 2 in wifi client, this
means the hot mobile phones (including the rumoured Nokia phones ) which
will be arriving in 2017 will come with wave 2 support and 60Ghz support. This
client makes lot of sense in today data hungry environment where gaming,4K
streaming are catching up fast than predicted. You can find more information
about this in below links

Moving on, our good old gear maker finally woke up from sleeping under rocks
and released a mesh based wifi modular device to tackle numerous startups that
sprung up in last two years, its worth noting that folks from linksys told last
year that mesh based home router setup is not "mature yet" and suddenly
launched a new product this year, boy if only I had a penny every time big
corporations think market is not mature enough till small companies sell
products and prove them wrong. My personal opinion is very mixed as I haven't
used any mesh setup but this product definitely looks uglier and expensive than
kids in the block (eero, plume etc.) , you can read more about the news in below

More news from CES, our friends from China have launched Xiami Mi Router
HD (because you have to have HD ) . This beast of a device comes with 8TB (yes
you read it right) hard disk with QC IPQ chipsets (the one thats used in many
high end AP and in chromebooks ), the specs and functionality is good at the
price point (500$ for 8TB and 200$ for 1TB) and it makes sense to have it as a
network attached storage device, the question is will they open up API's for
other IoT devices to store stuffs? , you can find more information about the
product below

Big brother is watching you !!, the US federal trade commission (FTC) body
sues Dlink for making less secure wifi router and video surveillance devices. Its
nothing shocking to see vendors showing least care for obvious security flaws in
wifi routers and video camera, in this case FTC sues dlink for making false
marketing promise like “EASY TO SECURE” with “ADVANCED NETWORK
SECURITY,”
