“An individual would get a week's course of three injections that introduce an engineered virus, which would cause a mild
immune response – less than that commonly caused by a flu shot. This engineered virus, the adeno-associated virus (AAV),
which has been known to scientists since the 1960s, would have been modified so that it doesn't spread or cause illness. This
version of the virus would carry some Yamanaka factors and perhaps a fail-safe switch that could be turned on with a
well-tolerated molecule such as doxycycline.
Initially, nothing would really change in the way the individual's genes work. However, when the individual begins to see or feel
the effects of aging, maybe around his or her mid-40s, he or she would be prescribed a month's course of doxycycline. With
that, the Yamanaka factors would be activated and immediately start the rejuvenation process. Gray hair would start to
disappear. Wounds would begin healing faster. Wrinkles would start fading. Organs would regenerate. The individual would
think faster, hear higher-pitched sounds, and no longer need glasses to read. Their entire body would feel young again. He or
she would start feeling like they are 35, then 30, then 25.”
