Coachella is located in southern California in the vicinity of palm springs. The system has been build
on tribal land of native American next to Augustine Casino. The system consists of 15228 First
Solar FS372 PV Panels. In order to decrease risk of production losses due to inverter failure, the
PV Solar electric system has been divided into 4 sub-arrays. Each operating on a Xantrex 250
kW Inverter. The System is facing south, has a fixed tilt of 30° and is mounted on a Schletter
aluminium Racking System
EPC Contractor: Ecostream US
Project responsible(s): Dirk Vollbrecht, environmental engineer
Dirk Vollbrecht , Ex – CEO of Ecostream US, is associated with Staten Solar. Dirk has
executed many projects, some of which are detailed below.

The market is expected to be around 7000 MW in 09 and expected to touch
20,000 MW by 2013
Key developments
Attractive policies being announced by various countries
Increasing price of Oil & Gas
Pricing
The current global production capacity is around 10,000 MW and expected
to be around 30,000 MW by 2013
Panel prices 2 years ago were about $5/w and are now about $2-$2.5/w and
are expected to come down to $1.5/w by end 2012 or sooner
25. Destination: India
Excellent insolation (5-7 kWh/m2/day) and abundant land
Mix of both centralized and decentralized power centers
Large peak power deficit especially day time peak
demand
Significant technical talent base
Need for reliable domestic energy source – need to
reduce dependence on oil and coal
Need for decarbonising power generation
Favorable investment atmosphere
26. India Background
India market :
MW volumes:
Feed in tariff announced by MNRE in 2006, around 5 MW solar power plants have
come up.
Future potential is 20,000MW by 2020 under the new Prime Minister’s solar mission
Key developments for growth in the segment:
Solar policy announced by MNRE with a tariff of Rs18.44/unit
Declining prices in solar equipment leads to improving ROI
None of the major players have gone beyond the stage of initial project reports/MoU’s
Rising oil prices
RPO framework is in place, which mandates a fixed % of renewal energy out of the
total energy
Pricing:
The National Solar mission has set the pace for solar energy to expand not only in
terms of an attractive tariff policy but also a clear road map
