4. WHAT IS GREEN
COMPUTING?
"TO CREATE A ECO-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT."
Green computing is the process of utilizing the
computing resources effectively and efficiently.
Care to be taken when designing, manufacturing and
disposing the electronic gadgets which do not create
no impact to the environment.
Reduced use of the hazardous materials, maximizing
the use of energy efficiency during the product
lifetime.
5. JUST A SMALL
QUESTION?
Do we all use Laptops?
Then immediate answer is "YES".
Do we shut down our Laptops when not in
use?
And the answer is a "BIG NO".
6. HISTORY
This concept got its start in 1992 when the EPA
created its Energy Star Program, which labelled
electric products, that minimized energy consumption
while maximizing efficiency.
1992
In 2003, the European Union adopted a Restriction
of Hazardous Substance(RoHS) which restricted the use
of specific toxic materials in the manufacture of
electronic equipment.
2003
By 2008, 26 United States took part in green
computing by establishing an electronic recycling
program.

7. NECESSIT
Y OF
GREEN
COMPUTIN
G?
Keep your computing
devices off when not
in use, where we
waste more energy.
Do not take printouts
until it is mandatory.
Polluting
the environment
without
the proper knowledge
of disposal of e-waste.
More toxic chemicals
are involved
in manufacturing of
the electronic
products as well as in
disposal.
8. HOW TO REDUCE
CONSUMPTION OF
ENERGY?
Turn
•Turn of the
computer when
not in use, if it is
just for an hour.
01
Use
•Use power save
mode.
02
Use
•Use energy
star rated
products.
03
Use
•Use LCDs instead
of CRTs as they
are more power
efficient.

9. SAVE ENERGY WHILE USING
INTERNET
BLACKLE is a website powered by google custom
search created by Head Media, which aims to save
energy by displaying a black ground and using
grayish-white font color for search results.
BLACKLE saves energy because is predominantly
black.
10. HOW TO SAVE ENERGY WHILE WORKING ON
COMPUTER?
SLEEP MODE:
Sleep or standby mode conserves energy by cutting off power to your display,
hard drives and peripherals.
After a pre - set period of inactivity, your computer switched to a low
power state.
HIBERNATE MODE:
Saves energy and protects your work by copying system data to a reserved
area on your hard drive and then completely turning off your computer.
Don’t over charge.
13. E-
WASTE
Anything that works with electricity or
batteries and you no longer need it or it
is no longer working is classified as E -
Waste
Anything that works with electricity or batteries and
you no longer need it is no longer working is classified
as e - waste
14. RECOVERY OF E-
WASTE
Electronic and electronic waste contains both valuable and
potentially hazardous material that can be recovered through
proper recycling.
Possibility of high health risk if the e – waste is mis-managed.
Directly or indirectly effects on human health conditions.
15. MINIMIZATION OF E-WASTE
Re-evaluate. Do you really need that extra gadget?
Try finding one device with multiple functions.
Extend the life of your electronics.
Buy a case, keep your device clean, and avoid overcharging the
battery.
Donate used electronics to social programs – and help victims of
domestic violence, environmental causes.
16. Recycling e-waste is easy to adopt.
Recycling lead and mercury enables
to replace equipment otherwise
would have been manufactured.
RECYCLING OF E-
WASTE
17. TRENDS
IN GREEN
COMPUTI
NG
ECO LABELING AND CERTIFICATION
Use EnergyStar products which consume less
energy and using eco labelled and certified IT
products which are energy efficient and eco-
friendly.
18. ADVANTAGES
Save Energy
Less Pollution
Less Green House Gas
Emission
Reduction of Health Risks
DISADVANTAGES
Plenty of knowledge may be
required
May slow down computer
networks
Maintenance is difficult
ADVANTAGES AND
DISADVANTAGES
19. FUTURE SCOPE
CONCLUSION
Green computing can save money and the environment
Easy to implement
The plan towards
green computing
includes the usage of
such electronic
products and serves
with the optimum
efficiency and all
possible option
towards energy
savings.
The companies
nowadays are
looking forward to
implement the Eco-
friendly components
in computers, the
use of sustainable
components
will become
the norm rather than
exception in future.
20. Generally, only few people
can spread awareness
among the people, so I
would like to be one of them
and would like to take part
in bringing some changes in
the environment and make
the world Green.
