A hackathon is an innovative
workshop where people
come together to build a
concept on the problem with
a sustainable solution.

8. INTRODUCTION
• What is it?: A planned event where groups are made up of both
technical and experts.
• Process: Experts should get together to collaborate intensively on
specific emerging problems by creating some innovative solutions.
• Purpose: To design, build and present the most innovative and
applied (real-world) solution to the existing problem, and then pitch a
final concept with model example.
• Challenge: Please keep in mind that you have limited resources and
you shouldn’t neglect different external factors like policies and so on
as per subject and context of your hackathon activity.

9. Tips to prepare your
Hackathon
• Find Teammates. The first essential thing surely is finding teammates
as per the instruction of trainers.
• Brainstorm for ideas.
• Find References.
• Research on the case background.
• Find the Sustainable Solution on case reflected.
• Think about the purpose of implementing.

What are the major problems for micro, small and
medium-sized enterprises (MSME) to sustain longer?
Case Background
In Nepalese context, 99% of registered enterprises are micro, small and medium enterprises
and 95% of employment are created by this sector (Central Bureau of Statistics, 2019). The
role of SMEs is significant as it creates jobs, mobilizes local resources and creates wealth.
The business performance of this sector has a large impact on the overall economic
performance of the country but the problem is many MSME could not sustain for longer
period of time and it has devastating effects on Nepalese SMEs, as they are less equipped
with strategies and resources to cope with crises.
