Persuasive Essay On Helping Animals
Animals are the beginning to the best love you could ever dream of. Ever since I was a young child, I've always resonated with the idea of helping
animals more so than anyone and anything. It had begun when I was a mere four years old, I've always had pets; dogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, and
much more. To find out more about how to help animals, I contacted Amanda Smasal, a community outreach coordinator at Wayside Waifs. Wayside
Waifs is no–kill shelter located in Kansas City, Missouri which has adoptable dogs and cats, ready and willing to go to loving homes. When I first
emailed Smasal asking if she'd participate in the interview, I felt overwhelming fear and began to panic about the whole encounter. The fear of having
to ask someone I'd never met to talk with me is something that scares me. Nonetheless, I sent the email asking politely yet efficiently asking that gives
me a few of her precious minutes to answer questions about a cause worth fighting for, animal rescue hospitals. She quickly responded to my quant
email approximately a day later stating she'd happily answer any and all questions I have, significant or insignificant. The questions took a couple
days to figure out. The few days I had to create the questions were filled with creativity and a tad bit of questionable ideas. All I asked her were the
things I'd want to know if I were on the opposite side of things. If I were the one asking questions. The simple emails exchanged between Smasal and

To What Extent Should Animals Be Allowed To Kill Animals...
What if California orphanages killed children to make room for more children? This is a repulsive thought, but the animal equivalent happens daily. In
kill–shelters across California, dogs and cats are given a limited time to be adopted before they are put to sleep, to make room for the thousands of
others flying in by the second. These dogs may be aggressive, fearful, friendly, furry, bald, playful; It doesn't make much difference, but the pets that
will be focused on today are those who do not have temperament problems or health problems. In other words, these animals have not injured
someone, and they are not sick. Kill shelters are open to everyone, and therefore can take in any amount of animals, but these shelters take in far more
animals then they adopt out: The others leave in dumpsters. Is it morally right to do this, or is it more important for one dog to get adopted than ... Show

Children are the future store–keepers, doctors, mayors, and presidents of the nation, and these children need to be taught to be honest and to work
through the problems they are presented with. With this problem, the killing of animals that do not have a place to belong, Children need to be taught
to face this situation head on, to do the research, and work towards a non–violent solution. The same would be done in a hospital, or the white house,
but what about the little people? Why shouldn't children learn to handle a situation honestly? If children were taught by adults to care for every being,
making California no–kill would be a big first step to the future success of the nation. Teaching children this attitude of integrity will support kindness

Shelters: The Difference Between Kill And No-Kill
Shelters have Pros and Cons; there are two main types – Kill, and No–Kill. Each shelter type care for their animals. They treat the animals very
similarly – They give the proper meals and keep profiles on their animals. Both shelters need to be donated to. Almost all shelters are Non–Profit:
Meaning all the money raised and donated goes to the animals. Most shelters also run on volunteer work. I would suggest you go to your nearest
shelter and volunteer. Both shelters encourage you to adopt. The Difference between kill and no–kill shelters The Difference between the two shelters
is no–kill shelters won't put animals to sleep. They have people foster if they want to get the animals in a new place. Kill shelters put animals to sleep

Why Do People Kill Animal Shelters?
In the article shown above, the writer suggests that Animal Shelters around San Diego kill cats more than dogs. The reason behind this is that it is
"inhumane" to keep this type of animal alive, and also that shelters don't have enough resources to keep them alive. The writer also describes that
people working at animal shelters don't want to kill animals they just want to help them with all medical treatment needed. But once through with that
the decision is made to put down the animals. And lastly the writer finishes with the importance of adoption and donating. When you adopt the
process becomes faster which means less animals, or cats to kill. The important part of this article, or website is to find if there is a good cause my

No kill shelters only take in animals they know people will be able to adopt. Some animals that are thrown in the streets, harshly treated, beaten,
and not feed are taken to the lower ran shelters, the ones at do kill animals. Shelters struggle to find a way to keep all of these animals alive, but all
the high running nicer shortens only take in the animals they know for a fact will sell. So since this article suggests that maybe all no kill animal
shelters are actually helping kill animals our community needs to take action. Although, they may not intentionally be meaning to use euthanasia on
these animals they don't want to take ones in that people won't buy. This article was useful because I see that our community should help propose
the idea to combine animals. Not the only in good shape animals, all of them. As it is a repeating statement in the community it still needs to be
done, donate. When you donate more money to shelters they can use all the resources talked about in all five of these sources, animals will have
bigger and cozier places to be, they won't be in as much pain, they will be loved. Even volunteering the animals could be played with and loved when
even as animals they feel as if they have no

Essay on Taking Care of Animals: Kill Versus No-Kill Shelter
Animals are beloved creatures among the human race, and are deeply cared for. As caretakers of pets, those caretakers have a responsibility to these
animals. One of those responsibilities includes making sure all animals are properly taken care of and are placed in a loving home. Many of these
poor animals, mostly cats and dogs, are cast unwanted onto the streets to fend for themselves. Once they are cast out, where are they to end up? The
ones that survive being discarded by neglectful owners are usually found and taken to a nearby animal shelter. These shelters are set up and designed
for stray animals to be taken care of until a new owner can be found. Shelters also graciously accept pets from owners who choose to surrender their ...

Other kinds of shelters are non–profit organizations that are set up by individuals. Most of these smaller organizations are only interested in certain
dogs, such as a certain breed, rare breeds, or a certain size of dog. These organizations usually house their animals in foster homes because they do not
have a physical location for their operation. Most of these smaller organizations are no–kill unless the animals are injured or are not able to be adopted
by a family ("No–Kill" Black). These organizations can do a great deal of good and save many animals from a terrible fate. However, when it comes to
bigger shelters with a no–kill policy, it can be very harmful for the animals involved. Overall, the no–kill policy is not as beneficial as society tends to
think. The public views shelters with a no–kill policy as more humane or civilized; however, this is not always the case. Ano–kill shelter probably
started as a wonderful idea, but was soon turned into a very bad thing. The idea of a no–kill shelter is that any animals that is well–tempered enough or
healthy enough to be adopted out, would be. The negative aspect of no–kill shelters is that once they run out of room to place the animals, a few things
start happening. When shelters are filled to capacity, they are forced to turn away animals in need. These animals that are turned away are left on the
streets or in the hand or irresponsible owners who cannot properly take

Kill Shelters: Lethal Injections Or Electrocution
Kill Shelters When an animal gets put into a shelter it doesn't always mean that they stay there and get cared for and nourished. Some shelters kill the
animals when they need space for other animals. These shelters are called Kill shelters. According to www.pet360.com Kill shelters are usually a
smaller shelter that will take in any animal without a scheduled appointment and no matter how bad their behavioral or health conditions are. Kill
shelters use different methods of euthanizing them. For example sometimes they will use Lethal Injections or Electrocution. Lethal injections Lethal
injections is the most preferred method to kill animals. This is because it causes the least stress for the humans involved. Often the injection is typically
done quite pointlessly in the front leg. Lethal injections aren't always the best because some drugs can cause discomfort or pain. Lethal injections are

Persuasive Essay On Animal Shelter
Many may ask, why waste a valuable life? Why kill when you can just save them and adopt? Animals deserve the chance to live just like any person in
this world does. Over the past 20 years, animal shelter communities in the United States has been grappling with the overpopulation problem of
domestic animals (Rowan). Nationally, around four million animals are killed in animal shelters each year. Of the animals killed, roughly 95% of the
shelters animals and treatable and healthy (Winograd). Each year between two to four million animals are euthanized (Winograd). Normally these
animals are domestic such as dogs, cats, horses, and so on. Most people like to believe that the animals are being put down because an incurable

This program has allowed no–kill animal shelters to spread across the country. Animal Shelters that promote no kill help to eliminate the idea of
controlling pet population. It has been a proven fact that no–kill shelters are economically better for a numerous amount of reasons. Many will argue
the fact that killing is the answer because it eliminates population and saves money but in fact it does not. No–kill is smarter financially and a
wonderful choice to improve local communities economy. Switching to no–kill comes with great savings, increased support from communities, boosts
in adoption rates and a positive image. With the positives that come along with the no–kill is ludicrous for any community to not eliminate their animal
shelters and change over. No–kill is very simple to achieve and every shelter needs to start putting forth effort so this can be

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Abuse
According to the Humane Society of the United States, there was a South Carolina puppy mill that consisted of hundreds of puppies that were
living in harmful conditions with no food or water, many of them were closed up in a small cages, and some had illnesses. Their fur was matted
and the animals were sick because they were not taken care of properly (Animal Abuse). Once all the animals were rescued, they were relocated
into animal shelters in hopes of regaining their strength and getting adopted. Animal abuse is illegal in all fifty states because of events like this
that mistreat animals. They have rights just like humans do. Animal shelters will help any animals they can if the animal is not already on the
brink of death. Once an animal first enters the shelter, they will be taken to have a bath if needed. An animal that is not a stray will be sent to get
neutered and get any shots that they need. If an animal comes into the shelter as a stray, there will be a 72 hour hold period, in hopes that the owner
will arrive (Griffin). Animal shelters such as Brother Wolf of Asheville will not only help animals who come into theirs shelters, they will also help
animals in natural disasters. In January of 2016, Brother Wolf was called to Augusta to assist in rescuing dogs off of Deans Bridge Road in Richmond
County. Approximately twenty five dogs were rescued, obtained medical treatment, and relocated into shelters and rescues. There are a few different

Kill Shelters And Animal Abuse
Kill shelters and animal abuse are a big problem in society. Animals are equal to people and they should be treated just the same. Animals do not
deserve to be treated harshly and they also do not deserve to live in horrible conditions. I believe that animals have as much of a right as humans
do, to be free of labor. "The reality is that all shelters, regardless of label, euthanize or send pets out to be euthanized." All pets have the right to live
even if their owner returned them. Kill shelters are not the best place to send your pets off to. Many people do feel sad about pets and other animals
who get euthanized even if they are not theirs. Animals have made a big impact on many people, so why don't people make a great impact on them too?

Persuasive Essay On Animal Euthanasia
Animal Euthanasia
"Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal. Difficult standards for people to live
up to." This was said by Alfred A. Montapert the author of many inspirational novels. I imagine many of you do not have a clue what the wordAnimal
Euthanasia actually means. According to the College of Veterinary Medicine means 'Euthanasia' is a Greek term meaning 'good death'. In this context,
its objectives are met when death is induced which causes no pain or distress to an animal. Although this is not always the case in many different
situations. Oftentimes there are 'complications' in this horrible procedure. Many of these complications cause pain and agony in these poor, helpless
creatures. The purpose of this plan is to relieve these animals that are in pain for different reasons. This gives the innocent animal the opposite of what
is thought to happen. Many people believe that this a peaceful way to end an animal's suffering, although many times the animal ends up dying a slow
painful death because the medication did not work the way it is supposed to. Animal Euthanasia should be illegal because the animal can suffer when
the point of it is to end their suffering, animals don't deserve to die, and some of the animals don't need to be put down. One reason that Animal
Euthanasia should be illegal is that the animals can suffer when they are trying to end their pain. Animal Euthanasia is a

Animal Shelters and the No Kill Movement
Nationally, roughly four million animals are killed in shelters every year. Of these, roughly 95% of all shelter animals are healthy and treatable. (No
Kill Advocacy Center). No animal should have to ever be a part of these awful statistics. What will it take to help save these innocent animals from
being killed senselessly? Animal kill shelters are horrible, inhumane, and overall completely unnecessary for multiple reasons: No Kill shelters
improve adoption rates, all animals lives are valuable, and No Kill shelters save more money than other shelters. Why Waste a Valuable Life? Killing
and disposing of animals because there is no room available for them is unnecessary and inhumane. A shelter is usually a place where something or...

Another question that comes to mind is if No Kill animal shelters are actually the solution or not. Some pounds will kill as many as 90% of the
animals they redeem and that owners hand over. But on the other hand countless pounds are lessening their kill rates of adoptable animals to 0%
(Animals). Death should never be the solution when it comes to the lives of these powerless animals. Why Kill When You Can Adopt? Usually
when others are given the choice between a kill shelter and a No Kill shelter the answer is almost always the No Kill shelter. What if each animal
shelter in the United States were to swap to No Kill shelters and if all the services and programs that help run No Kill shelters were available? Well
the United States would emancipate roughly four million cats and dogs who are scheduled to die painfully in shelters this year, and the many
years to come after that. This dream is a dream that is not completely impossible to achieve (No Kill Advocacy Center). Why are animals given a
certain time line to be adopted when animals have the same right to life just as humans do? Many passionate people feel the same way and that kill
shelters are completely unnecessary. The ASPCA has its own program called Mission Orange. This program works with communities to help raise
the shelter "save rate" by 10% a year so that it can accomplish a 75% save rate by 2010 ("Animal Shelters and the No Kill

Animal Hoarding Essay
Animal hoarding is an issue in every division of society around the world (Donaghey 2011). Whether rich or poor, there may still be an animal
hoarder living right next door (Donaghey 2011). In some situations there may be obvious signs that a person is a hoarder; however, others live
seemingly regular lives to the public eye and the problem is growing. Animal hoarding is a growing problem because of the lack of understanding of
the issue and lack of action. The general public has a lack of understanding of animal hoarding. Many citizens do not realize that anyone can report
abuse (Donaghey 2011). There are "...900 to 2,000 new cases [found] every year... with a quarter million animals falling victim" in the United States
alone (Animal). If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donaghey stated that, "research has shown that hard core criminals who do crimes such as rape, battery, and murder often claim to have started abusing
animals before humans". This is yet another reason she says that education of our children would greatly help the community (Donaghey 2011).
Researchers have found that animal hoarding is a mental illness equivalent to schizophrenia. It can be characterized by having "more than the typical
number of companion animals", and "obsessive attempts to [ ] maintain a collection of animals in to face of deteriorating conditions" having an
"inability to provide even minimal standards of nutrition, sanitation, shelter, and veterinary care with this neglect often resulting in starvation, illness,
and death" (Animal) (Castrodale). Animal hoarders also are in "denial of the inability to provide this minimum care and the impact of that failure on the
animals, the household, and human occupants of the dwelling" (Animal). People who hoard and abuse animals once usually hoard again as shown in a
case in England (Donaghey 2011) (Cruelty). Studies done on animal hoarding show that human health is not taken into consideration when dealing
with hoarding situations. In 2 independent studies done of 54 cases, the majority of "animal care agencies failed to address human health concerns
associated with the case" (Arluke). More studies found that "in 11

No Kill Policy Essay
Results from a nationally conducted survey show that ninety–six percent of Americans agree that society carries the obligation of caring for and
protecting animal companions ("Dollars and Sense" 2). This public outcry for better pet treatment applies to Ohioans as well; the movement's
increasing popularity brings up the question of whether or not shelters in Ohio should adopt a no–kill policy or stand by the old euthanasia philosophy.
Supporters of kill shelters complain that the alternative overwhelmingly relies on external funds and volunteers and could become overpopulated with
pets. In contrast, proponents of the no–kill policy argue that it is more humane than its opponent, employing methods such as neutering,. foster care, and

Advocates of kill shelters often complain that no–kill shelters are a hindrance due to excessive dependence on volunteers and funds and the risk they
bring of pet overpopulation. In reality, no–kill shelters work avidly to mitigate the chance of overpopulation through desexing animals, encouraging
adoption, and using foster homes; additionally, these shelters only use euthanasia as a final recourse unlike kill shelters that use it as the primary
method. Moreover, shelters that adopt the no–kill policy provide more economic benefits than their adversaries because they use less expensive
methods of care, bring in revenue through adoption, and use more volunteers than employees. Most American citizens agree that saving and caring for
animals is an important goal; in order to complete this mission, Ohio shelters should abolish their kill philosophy and adopt the kinder, more humane

because there is no one willing to adopt them and care for them." Also, in San Antonio, Texas, "The bodies of nearly 16,000 dogs and nearly 12,000
cats were scraped off the streets and properties in just one year." The government needs to open up a better place for homeless dogs to live. When they
are not adopted, instead of kill shelters or the streets, they won't be in cages all the time. It is important that the state government funds larger and

No-Kill Shelter Essay
No–Kill Shelters During a crisis of pet overpopulation, it right to kill animals simply because they are not wanted? Or is it ever right thing to do?
The United States is faced with the problem of what should be done with the excess of stray animals. This is a complex thing to solve, but that
doesn't mean killing the animals for space is right. Stray dogs and cats have just as much right to a good home as pets that already have owners.
No–Kill shelters are beneficial, they provide a safe, pet–friendly environment that would help solve the problems of pet homelessness and
overpopulations, as a result of spay and neuter being provided as well. For a no–kill shelter to work, it requires the cooperation of multiple staff

The private shelters accept upon how they kill the stray dogs and cats but then how is the history so much worse? A problem has grown among animal
lovers. On one side are the traditional shelters that euthanize to make space for more animals. On the other side are those that call themselves "no kill".
They represent a rage of shelters from all over the country that won't euthanize any animal on their property. No–Kill shelters are gaining popularity in
the United States, According to one source, "More than 600 shelters and that's just a fraction. The popularity has put pressure on the other shelters to

half agrees that there should not be any kill shelters here in this area or anywhere in the country. Some of the shelters in California are amazing, at
Sonoma County's animal shelter has new policies for the crowded conditions and are working to reduce the number of healthy animal's that are killed.
Dog and cat owners who may want to give up their pets have to make an appointment with the shelter staff to discuss alternatives. Healthy animals

When Mary Ray of Woodbury, Minnesota unexpectedly passed away at her home during the winter of 2012, the last thing she would have expected
was that her beloved perfectly healthy, young pet cat would be euthanized by the Woodbury Humane Society shelter instead of being sent to the home
she had detailed in a note posted on her refrigerator. In retrospect, this would not have happened if the Woodbury Humane Society shelter had adopted
the new and growing trend of "no–kill" philosophy for animal shelters, which simply stated, is an operating philosophy for a shelter that is based upon
the premise that no healthy adoptable animal should be euthanized for any reason and that they should be sheltered until they find a loving home. The

Finally, many animals that are declined from limited admission shelters are dumped on city streets and in rural areas creating the potential for
uncontrolled reproduction and thus creating more homeless animals. Overall, opponents of the no–kill shelter philosophy see it as misleading and
possibly harmful to the management and wellbeing of stray animals.
The actual record shows an entirely different outcome. The no–kill movement started when Richard Avanizo took over the San Francisco SPCA in
April 1976. During this time, humane societies and SPCA's followed the tenets being promoted by the Animal Humane Society in which they were
required to kill the bulk of animals in their care due to the large amount of animals, and limited number of homes but later, "Avanzino forced a
reluctant animal control director to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two agencies that guaranteed a home for every healthy dog and
cat in San Francisco" (Redemption 37). This was known as the adoption pact which was a huge step in the no–kill movement with a result of zero
healthy shelter animal deaths that year (Irreconcilable Differences 49). This success led to other shelters adopting this philosophy.
Today, the primary goals of no–kill shelters are to be able to find animals

Saving Animal Shelters In America
Introduction
Murdered animals are the result of animals shelters neglecting to take care of them. They are left with untreated diseases, and severe abandonment. No
home and no one to take care of them; this is what it's like for these animals everyday, and it's because of traditional kill shelters. A recent study
conducted that there are "70 million stray cats and dogs live in the United States. There are 13,600 estimated animal shelters nationwide. Only 7.6
million companion animals enter animal shelters every year." It's the lack of animal shelters letting animals in, or killing them instead, that has cause
so many to die. An author from animal shelter blog states: "When "no–kill" animal shelters and rescue groups are filled to capacity, ... Show more

A recent article states that "These programs include national initiatives focused on shutting down puppy mills, fighting breed–discriminatory
legislation, and keeping community cats safe and out of shelters. To accomplish its objectives, Best Friends has formed coalitions of animal welfare

called Best Friends has made saving animals and taking disciplined steps into creating a positive, safe, and healthy way for animals to live. In
another source an author tastes "Spaying, neutering and education are the only answers to the deep rooted problem of overpopulation which is why
the LA/SPCA invests so heavily in sterilization programs. Until all dogs and cats are sterilized or the numbers of homeless animals are significantly
reduced, our community will continue to euthanize." This shows that unwanted animals are a cause of overpopulation, in which animals aren't
accepted anywhere else, so the shelters kill them because there isn't pspace. If more animal shelters opened their doors and more shelters were opened
up, more animals wouldn't have to be murdered and instead saved and cared for by loving people

Animal Punishmenting Animals
Do you ever recall being punished for something you had no clue about? On a daily basis dogs and cats are being euthanized, which is their
"punishment". As human we fight for equality of one another, but haven't really fought for our so called companions. People don't look for the
positive alternative for dogs in a pound. We see a so called problem and take the lives of unwanted dogs who didn't even have a say or choice of what
they want. So why are we punishing those who did nothing? Killing innocent animals due to overpopulation, crowded shelters, or old age is
unreasonable. Just in the United States around 6.5 million companions are euthanized each year. The estimated amount of dogs that are put down each
year is 3.3 million, and the amount of cats euthanized is around 3.2 million. The majority of euthanasias take place in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi,
Georgia, and North Carolina. Some of the largest animal shelter in the United States, such as Dallas Animal Services, San Antonio Animal Care and

No Kill Shelters
According to Sarah Knapton, "humans love their dogs in the same way they do their children, and the feeling is mutual." Everyone loves dogs,
dogs can even be a person's best friend. With seeing dogs in a crowed shelters and dogs getting euthanized is sad. The issue with regular animal

limitation. As no kill shelters accept animals on a voluntary or space available basis, a no kill shelter does not euthanize animals who can be adopted
or when the shelter is full, reserving euthanasia for animals who are terminally ill or considered dangerous (Heinz). As proposed by Heinz "I have
volunteered at both no kill shelters and traditional shelters. In my experience, the no kill shelters tend to put down the traditional shelters for

Descriptive Essay On Animal Abuse
An Animal Extravaganza's Galore
Animals are the beginning of the best nerve wrecking filled love you could ever dream of for your entire existence. Ever since I was a young child,
I've always resonated with the everlasting idea of helping animals more so than anyone and anything else in this world. My love for animals had
begun when I was a mere two years old. I've always had pets: dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, and much more. I remember the joy I'd felt when my
parents brought my dogs and I to the park. To find out more information about how to help adoptable animals in shelters, I contacted Amanda Smasal, a
community outreach coordinator at Wayside Waifs. Wayside Waifs isno–kill shelter located in Kansas City, Missouri which has adoptable dogs and
cats, ready and willing to go to safe, loving homes.
When I first emailed Smasal asking if she would participate in the interview, I felt overwhelming fear and began to panic about the whole
encounter. The fear of having to ask someone I had never met to talk with me is something that scares me. Nonetheless, I sent the email asking
politely yet efficiently to see if she would give me a few of her precious minutes to answer questions about a cause worth fighting for: animal rescue
hospitals. She quickly responded to my quaint email approximately a day later stating she would happily answer any and all questions I have,
significant or insignificant. The questions took a couple days to figure out. The few days I had to create

What is a shelter
An animal shelter is an Establishment, a Establishment is a action of establishing something or being established or it can mean, a business

The Humane Association At An Animal Shelter
Bitterroot Humane Association

Research Paper
Imagine being a staff member or a volunteer at an animal shelter. Imagine watching day in and day out as animals passed through your doors, the
unmistakeable scent of desolation and grief filling the room like a tidal wave. Imagine standing in front of the donation jar, counting the measly
offerings, and hoping they added up to at least five dollars. Ravalli County should do more to encourage adoption of impounded animals, and supply
more resources for, the Bitterroot Humane Association. The BItterroot Humane Association is our local "pound" that takes in lost, abandoned, abused,
or unwanted companions. They provide pet owners with an outlet should they ever not be able to take care of their animals. Then, these pets are
placed back into loving homes, making everyone happy. With a limited budget, they have to care for many, many animals. The Bitterroot Humane
Association does not give animals a "time limit" for being put down. Some shelters in Missoula, for example, euthanize their residents if they do not
find homes soon enough. Many animals at the kill shelters are very loving and sweet, and deserve a little more time to adjust. At no kill shelters, such
as the Bitterroot Humane Association, they are not put down. Several of the dogs and cats have been there for a long time, which is definitely hard on
them. Finally, the humane association also helps other animals in

Persuasive Essay On Pet Animals
I have had pets, specially cats, since the day I was born. Some of these cats my family bought from a family with a litter of kittens they needed to
get rid of. Others we got from humane societies. Over the years, I have had 6 different pet cats, not all at once of course. The most memorable
were the ones that were rescued from a shelter because we saved them from the lonely, tiny cages that they were forced to live in day in and day out.
As we were looking for the most recent additions, I grew tired of looking in shelters, not because it was time consuming finding the right one, but
because of all the sad faces that stared back at me from the cages. Adopting and rescuing is the better option when it comes to adding a pet to the family.

Some people may think that only sick animals are in shelters or that shelter animals aren't healthy enough to adopt, but that's not true. There are sick
animals, but they are treated for their illnesses by veterinarians and watched carefully by volunteers and staff. They are not eligible for adoption until
they pass their vet exam. No matter where you get your pet from, whether it be breeder or shelter, there is a chance they could get sick at some point
in their life.
The adopter will benefit by seeing their new family member thrive and watching their personality emerge. They will also feel the sense of having
saved a life because in a way they did. Older animals spend approximately 4 times more time in shelters than younger ones, which may make adopting
an older animal seem pointless because you may only get to have them for a few years, but if you do it, you are giving an animal the most amazing
end to their lives and a good home to live out their golden years in (Madrone). They may even surprise you by living longer than they are expected
to. Adopting an animal from a shelter is also cheaper in the long run. Animals from shelters are spayed or neutered before they can be adopted. They
have also likely visited the vet to get shots and make sure they are generally in good health. They are usually microchipped. If you were to buy an
animal elsewhere, you would have to pay for all those things yourself, on top of the price

No-Kill Shelters Rehabilitation for Animals
No–Kill shelters rehabilitate animals that could be good pets. This also includes any animal that is injured or sick. Throughout the world, many
people think that some animals are bad or are considered dangerous. Although, some may be true, but it is mostly false because the dogs that are
consider dangerous, for example pit bulls or rottweilers, these animals are victims. They are victims because they don't know what is good because
they were train differently or they were abused by their owners or they were dog fighters.
No–Kill Rescue Shelters, rescues any animal that is healthy and that could be treatable. Unfortunately, there are time, were No–kill shelters cannot
rescue animals, when the animals are unadoptable and untreatable. Unadoptable is any animal that cannot be adopted because they are badly injury,
or they have caught a disease that cannot be cured. Untreatable is any animal that cannot be place in a suitable home, because they are really
aggressive and they are noted to be very dangerous animals. When untreatable animals cannot be adoptable but the shelter had at least try to treat the
animal, by law they have to euthanize because the animal is dangerous to the community. Joanne was talking to me, I had ask her if traditional shelter
euthanasia right away if an animal bites or barks aggressively? She told me that she had experience, where a woman and her kid got bit by dog and
unfortunately that dog had to be put down. By law, if any animal attacks a

Chapter #3 – Kill Shelters vs. No–Kill and Low–Kill
Shelters
No–Kill Shelters No–Kill Shelters are very different from Kill and Low–Kill Shelters. For example, Maddie's Fund wrote that no–kill shelters save all
healthy and treatable dogs and cats. They will even keep the animal until it gets adopted. Around 7.6 million dogs and cats are sent to an animal shelter
every year. But only 4.9 animals are saved mostly by no–kill shelters. However, if the animal is unhealthy or untreatable, they will put it down. Also,
they only take in animals that are adoptable. Pet360 stated, "They do not accept animals without appointments and have a very thorough screening
process. Additionally, these shelters often will not accept animals over a certain age,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, they limit how much time an animal has to get adopted. According to an article, "To clarify, there are some shelters that will let an animal
stay for two weeks before euthanizing it. Others give only 3 days. According to research, some shelters may give an animal 3 days, then an additional
7, should the owner come looking for the animal. Meanwhile, other shelters may give the animals a few months, a few weeks, a few days, or even just
an hour." This shows how these shelters don't care about finding homes for these homeless animals. Furthermore, kill shelters use excuses for
murdering the innocent little animals. An article said they use excuses like "We don't have enough room, we don't have enough money to keep them
alive, or they aren't young or 'cute' enough and nobody will want to adopt them." Every year, approximately 2.7 million dogs and cats are euthanized
because there isn't enough room. As you can see, these shelters don't even think these animals are worthy of being alive. Lastly, research told how kill
shelters send out little to no notice of advertisement for the animals. The only advertisement that some kill shelters send out is a "death row" which
tells adopters that they are about to kill some animals, so they need to come adopt one before it's too late. In other words, kill shelters don't give much
effort in encouraging people to adopt an animal. Kill shelters are the most harsh shelters of them

Animal Overpopulation
The myth of pet overpopulation is a huge campaign that's considered truth nationwide. The National Animal Interest Alliance (NAIA) explains this
myth and why it's used. Activists use the myth to put all blame of animal shelter death on breeders. Radical groups perpetuate this myth by making
breeding restrictions. This myth is the biggest cause of euthanizing healthy, adoptable animals. Per year, about 3.1 million dogs are adopted while 2.1
million are euthanized. However, this number for euthanized dogs is not broken down by reasoning for euthanization. Overpopulation propagandists
often claims this number reaches over 6 million each year. While shelters heavily euthanize adoptable dogs and breeders increasingly use puppy mills,

"PETA's Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad History of Killing Animals" describes PETA's adoption rate of 2.5% even though they proclaim
dedication to animal life. PETA euthanizes a huge majority of animals they take in. Although they don't turn away any animal, other kill shelters still
have much higher adoption rates, including ones that use euthanasia. In fact, they claim most animals unadoptable and kill them within 24 hours of
receiving them. PETA claims they euthanize out of love and to ease suffering. They also blame pet overpopulation for their high kill rate. Nathan
Winograd claims PETA's founder was disturbed and built the organization with a foundation of killing animals. Newkirk, the founder, even admitted to
killing adoptable animals. A PETA veterinarian said under oath that PETA has been given healthy, adoptable dogs that they soon euthanized. James
McWilliams of The Atlantic explained, "Out of the 760 dogs impounded, they killed 713... As for cats, they impounded 1,211, euthanized 1,198,
transferred eight, and found homes for a grand total of five. PETA also took in 58 other companion animals––including rabbits. It killed 54 of them."

Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse
3–4 million animals are euthanized every year in kill–shelters throughout the United States. Euthanasia, by definition, is "the painless killing of a
patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma (Google)." The method of euthanasia is also known as "mercy
killing" and "assisted suicide". But euthanasia is practically a form of "legal" abuse towards animals, specifically cats and dogs. Although they claim to
euthanize for good reasons such as a contagious illness or aggressive behavior. In the United States alone there are 4,000–6,000 animal shelters. Of
those shelters, nearly 10,000 cats and dogs are being euthanized every single day. Obviously, the euthanization method in shelters is unfair, costly, and
clearly animal abuse. There are many reasons for euthanizing, but none of them are just. Shelters euthanize animals when there is overcrowding or
sickness and euthanasia is also dependent on the behavior of the animal. If and when an animal is deemed too aggressive or uncontrollable, many
shelters are more likely to put them down rather than to try and train the animals to change their behavior. Behavior is easy to change, considering the
amount of people in the U.S. that are more than willing to help. Some towns only have kill shelters, resulting in unruly strays being placed in that
shelter. In some cases, many stray cats are feral, therefore they have aggressive behavior. Feral cats are difficult to adopt out because of their

In addition to fostering, rescuing and adopting animals from shelters minimizes animal overpopulation and abandonment. Puppy mills are places that
breed dogs and then sells them, however these places are considered harmful and inhumane to the dogs they are breeding. Many shelters rescue
animals from situations like puppy mills, abuse and abandonment and put them up for adoption. Shelters however provide opportunities and gives a
second chance to these animals. Therefore shelters have adoption events to help find these abandonment pets a good, new home. As result as well as
reducing pet abandonment, getting a rescue from a shelter could also save a life if they are at a kill shelter. In conclusion it's important to know the
causes of animal abandonment but it's also important to know possible solutions and how to help the abandoned animals. Animals are being abandoned

Every day in the United States animals are killed because of neglect from humans. Many of these animals find refuge in shelters. Some of these shelters,
however, are not suitable for animals. The U.S. government has proved itself unworthy of funding animal shelters. Many true loving, nonprofit
organizations exist that can and should properly fund animal shelters in the United States. The funding for animal shelters is either done by the
insufficient government or by the organizations formed by people, some affiliated with the No Kill philosophy. Volunteer organizations are the rightful

No Kill shelters present an idea of not killing animals that can be treated that are adopted by the shelter. Only when an animal cannot continue living
without pain will the shelter put the animal down. Shelters that usually follow the No Kill philosophy will also desex the animals adopted to keep more
strays from reproducing, resulting in more overcrowding (Wenderhold). Many animal shelters will kill injured animals due to overcrowding in their
facilities when they should surgically repair the animal and send them to another vacant shelter. Shelters that do not desex their animals may give the
animal to a family, and the family may very well lose that animal. The stray animal may then start reproducing with other strays. This is why No– Kill
shelters also desex the adopted animals. The Maddie's Fund is an organization ran by volunteers that help raise awareness for the No–Kill philosophy.

people argue over if no kill shelters are better than kill shelters and vice–versa but I have read many articles about this topic and I can give you the
worldwide opinion. NO KILL SHELTERS No kill shelters don't accept all animals and are somewhat picky on what kind of pets they pick up. These

Pros And Cons Of Animal Adoption
In the world today, over four million animals are euthanized yearly. There are a few different options on how someone can retrieve their new fur
baby such as adopting from a shelter and buying from a puppy store. There are plenty of pros and cons of adopting and buying from stores such as
saving animals, cheaper prices, finding what's comfortable, supporting puppy mills, and foul treatment of animals. In order to rescue and to stop
supporting puppy mills that lead to indecent animals. I believe that people should begin to stop shopping and to open their minds to adoption. Shelters
are always full of dogs and cats patiently waiting for their perfect owner to find them, but most never make it out. There are "No Kill Shelters" and
there are "High Kill Shelter" and unfortunately most of those who enter the "High Kill Shelters" never make it out. The major aspect about adopting is
giving a loyal animal a second chance at life. A pro for adoption is the fact that you get to rescue an animal that may have been next in line for the
euthanasia list. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you plan on intending to buy a "bully" breed you must go through processing. This involves plenty of interviews and questions to determine if you
are the right fit for the animal. The way this can go wrong is that you may not be selected to receive the animal. Another way that can make adopting
a pain is that you may not find the breed you were intending on buying. This can make the process of retrieving your furry friend much longer.
Lastly, your new friend may reject you and turn out completely different than you would have expected, but it takes time and patience to learn about
one another. The main exception of buying from a store is that you are most likely going to get the breed you intend on getting right then and there.

"People who love animals want to donate their money to agencies that save animals,"says the article. That example represents the fact that if the shelter
obtained a no–kill policy, it would get donated money to help care for & find space for the animals. Also, it's said that no–kill shelters are generally
more likely to get employees. As the staff will be able to get attached and gain a connection with the animals without the possibility of having to
euthanize them due to money and space issues. That would be something the staff would appreciate. They would love to have a strong bond with an
animal without fearing to euthanize them. In conclusion, more people will apply for a job, as well as more donations will take place at a no–kill

Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse
Rough Draft Pet overpopulation might be a major issue, but is it right to kill an animal because it is unwanted? The United States has been faced
with a major enigma: what can be done to prevent the overpopulation of animals in shelters and shrink the population of animals on the streets? It is a
very long and complex problem that needs to be solved, but that is no reason to give up on these animals. All animals deserve the chance to find a
home and a family that can love and care for them, but unreasonably high euthanasia rates in shelters take that chance away. Animal shelters should
provide spay and neuter services and work towards becoming no–kill because this can help control the problem of pet overpopulation and homelessness
while providing a safe environment for animals to keep them away from euthanasia. Animal overpopulation has been a major issue in the United States
since the early 1940's and it has only gotten exponentially worse (NCPPSP). Overpopulation will turn into a "statistical black hole" and if nothing is
done to properly control it (Rowan). Instead of attempting to find homes for these animals, most shelters choose euthanasia as a control for their
population. Euthanasia is the act of putting to death painlessly, usually done through an intravenous injection of an overdose of anesthetic. It was
originally used to put down suffering animals, but around 1970 euthanasia rates began to rapidly increase(NCPPSP). Shelters are now using euthanasia
to control

Persuasive Essay On Helping Animals

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On Helping Animals Animals are the beginning to the best love you could ever dream of. Ever since I was a young child, I've always resonated with the idea of helping animals more so than anyone and anything. It had begun when I was a mere four years old, I've always had pets; dogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, and much more. To find out more about how to help animals, I contacted Amanda Smasal, a community outreach coordinator at Wayside Waifs. Wayside Waifs is no–kill shelter located in Kansas City, Missouri which has adoptable dogs and cats, ready and willing to go to loving homes. When I first emailed Smasal asking if she'd participate in the interview, I felt overwhelming fear and began to panic about the whole encounter. The fear of having to ask someone I'd never met to talk with me is something that scares me. Nonetheless, I sent the email asking politely yet efficiently asking that gives me a few of her precious minutes to answer questions about a cause worth fighting for, animal rescue hospitals. She quickly responded to my quant email approximately a day later stating she'd happily answer any and all questions I have, significant or insignificant. The questions took a couple days to figure out. The few days I had to create the questions were filled with creativity and a tad bit of questionable ideas. All I asked her were the things I'd want to know if I were on the opposite side of things. If I were the one asking questions. The simple emails exchanged between Smasal and me led to me ... • 2. To What Extent Should Animals Be Allowed To Kill Animals... What if California orphanages killed children to make room for more children? This is a repulsive thought, but the animal equivalent happens daily. In kill–shelters across California, dogs and cats are given a limited time to be adopted before they are put to sleep, to make room for the thousands of others flying in by the second. These dogs may be aggressive, fearful, friendly, furry, bald, playful; It doesn't make much difference, but the pets that will be focused on today are those who do not have temperament problems or health problems. In other words, these animals have not injured someone, and they are not sick. Kill shelters are open to everyone, and therefore can take in any amount of animals, but these shelters take in far more animals then they adopt out: The others leave in dumpsters. Is it morally right to do this, or is it more important for one dog to get adopted than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Children are the future store–keepers, doctors, mayors, and presidents of the nation, and these children need to be taught to be honest and to work through the problems they are presented with. With this problem, the killing of animals that do not have a place to belong, Children need to be taught to face this situation head on, to do the research, and work towards a non–violent solution. The same would be done in a hospital, or the white house, but what about the little people? Why shouldn't children learn to handle a situation honestly? If children were taught by adults to care for every being, making California no–kill would be a big first step to the future success of the nation. • 3. Shelters: The Difference Between Kill And No-Kill Shelters have Pros and Cons; there are two main types – Kill, and No–Kill. Each shelter type care for their animals. They treat the animals very similarly – They give the proper meals and keep profiles on their animals. Both shelters need to be donated to. Almost all shelters are Non–Profit: Meaning all the money raised and donated goes to the animals. Most shelters also run on volunteer work. I would suggest you go to your nearest shelter and volunteer. Both shelters encourage you to adopt. The Difference between kill and no–kill shelters The Difference between the two shelters is no–kill shelters won't put animals to sleep. They have people foster if they want to get the animals in a new place. Kill shelters put animals to sleep when they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Why Do People Kill Animal Shelters? In the article shown above, the writer suggests that Animal Shelters around San Diego kill cats more than dogs. The reason behind this is that it is "inhumane" to keep this type of animal alive, and also that shelters don't have enough resources to keep them alive. The writer also describes that people working at animal shelters don't want to kill animals they just want to help them with all medical treatment needed. But once through with that the decision is made to put down the animals. And lastly the writer finishes with the importance of adoption and donating. When you adopt the process becomes faster which means less animals, or cats to kill. The important part of this article, or website is to find if there is a good cause my group can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No kill shelters only take in animals they know people will be able to adopt. Some animals that are thrown in the streets, harshly treated, beaten, and not feed are taken to the lower ran shelters, the ones at do kill animals. Shelters struggle to find a way to keep all of these animals alive, but all the high running nicer shortens only take in the animals they know for a fact will sell. So since this article suggests that maybe all no kill animal shelters are actually helping kill animals our community needs to take action. Although, they may not intentionally be meaning to use euthanasia on these animals they don't want to take ones in that people won't buy. This article was useful because I see that our community should help propose the idea to combine animals. Not the only in good shape animals, all of them. As it is a repeating statement in the community it still needs to be done, donate. When you donate more money to shelters they can use all the resources talked about in all five of these sources, animals will have bigger and cozier places to be, they won't be in as much pain, they will be loved. • 5. Essay on Taking Care of Animals: Kill Versus No-Kill Shelter Animals are beloved creatures among the human race, and are deeply cared for. As caretakers of pets, those caretakers have a responsibility to these animals. One of those responsibilities includes making sure all animals are properly taken care of and are placed in a loving home. Many of these poor animals, mostly cats and dogs, are cast unwanted onto the streets to fend for themselves. Once they are cast out, where are they to end up? The ones that survive being discarded by neglectful owners are usually found and taken to a nearby animal shelter. These shelters are set up and designed for stray animals to be taken care of until a new owner can be found. Shelters also graciously accept pets from owners who choose to surrender their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other kinds of shelters are non–profit organizations that are set up by individuals. Most of these smaller organizations are only interested in certain dogs, such as a certain breed, rare breeds, or a certain size of dog. These organizations usually house their animals in foster homes because they do not have a physical location for their operation. Most of these smaller organizations are no–kill unless the animals are injured or are not able to be adopted by a family ("No–Kill" Black). These organizations can do a great deal of good and save many animals from a terrible fate. However, when it comes to bigger shelters with a no–kill policy, it can be very harmful for the animals involved. Overall, the no–kill policy is not as beneficial as society tends to think. The public views shelters with a no–kill policy as more humane or civilized; however, this is not always the case. Ano–kill shelter probably started as a wonderful idea, but was soon turned into a very bad thing. The idea of a no–kill shelter is that any animals that is well–tempered enough or healthy enough to be adopted out, would be. The negative aspect of no–kill shelters is that once they run out of room to place the animals, a few things start happening. When shelters are filled to capacity, they are forced to turn away animals in need. These animals that are turned away are left on the streets or in the hand or irresponsible owners who cannot properly take ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Kill Shelters: Lethal Injections Or Electrocution Kill Shelters When an animal gets put into a shelter it doesn't always mean that they stay there and get cared for and nourished. Some shelters kill the animals when they need space for other animals. These shelters are called Kill shelters. According to www.pet360.com Kill shelters are usually a smaller shelter that will take in any animal without a scheduled appointment and no matter how bad their behavioral or health conditions are. Kill shelters use different methods of euthanizing them. For example sometimes they will use Lethal Injections or Electrocution. Lethal injections Lethal injections is the most preferred method to kill animals. This is because it causes the least stress for the humans involved. • 7. Persuasive Essay On Animal Shelter Many may ask, why waste a valuable life? Why kill when you can just save them and adopt? Animals deserve the chance to live just like any person in this world does. Over the past 20 years, animal shelter communities in the United States has been grappling with the overpopulation problem of domestic animals (Rowan). Nationally, around four million animals are killed in animal shelters each year. Of the animals killed, roughly 95% of the shelters animals and treatable and healthy (Winograd). Each year between two to four million animals are euthanized (Winograd). Normally these animals are domestic such as dogs, cats, horses, and so on. No–kill is smarter financially and a wonderful choice to improve local communities economy. Switching to no–kill comes with great savings, increased support from communities, boosts in adoption rates and a positive image. • 8. The Pros And Cons Of Animal Abuse According to the Humane Society of the United States, there was a South Carolina puppy mill that consisted of hundreds of puppies that were living in harmful conditions with no food or water, many of them were closed up in a small cages, and some had illnesses. Their fur was matted and the animals were sick because they were not taken care of properly (Animal Abuse). Once all the animals were rescued, they were relocated into animal shelters in hopes of regaining their strength and getting adopted. Animal abuse is illegal in all fifty states because of events like this that mistreat animals. They have rights just like humans do. Animal shelters will help any animals they can if the animal is not already on the brink of death. Once an animal first enters the shelter, they will be taken to have a bath if needed. An animal that is not a stray will be sent to get neutered and get any shots that they need. If an animal comes into the shelter as a stray, there will be a 72 hour hold period, in hopes that the owner will arrive (Griffin). Animal shelters such as Brother Wolf of Asheville will not only help animals who come into theirs shelters, they will also help animals in natural disasters. In January of 2016, Brother Wolf was called to Augusta to assist in rescuing dogs off of Deans Bridge Road in Richmond County. Approximately twenty five dogs were rescued, obtained medical treatment, and relocated into shelters and rescues. There are a few different types of animals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Animals do not deserve to be treated harshly and they also do not deserve to live in horrible conditions. I believe that animals have as much of a right as humans do, to be free of labor. "The reality is that all shelters, regardless of label, euthanize or send pets out to be euthanized." All pets have the right to live even if their owner returned them. • 10. Persuasive Essay On Animal Euthanasia Animal Euthanasia "Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal. Difficult standards for people to live up to." This was said by Alfred A. Montapert the author of many inspirational novels. I imagine many of you do not have a clue what the wordAnimal Euthanasia actually means. According to the College of Veterinary Medicine means 'Euthanasia' is a Greek term meaning 'good death'. In this context, its objectives are met when death is induced which causes no pain or distress to an animal. Although this is not always the case in many different situations. Oftentimes there are 'complications' in this horrible procedure. Many of these complications cause pain and agony in these poor, helpless creatures. The purpose of this plan is to relieve these animals that are in pain for different reasons. This gives the innocent animal the opposite of what is thought to happen. Many people believe that this a peaceful way to end an animal's suffering, although many times the animal ends up dying a slow painful death because the medication did not work the way it is supposed to. Animal Euthanasia should be illegal because the animal can suffer when the point of it is to end their suffering, animals don't deserve to die, and some of the animals don't need to be put down. One reason that Animal Euthanasia should be illegal is that the animals can suffer when they are trying to end their pain. Animal Euthanasia is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Animal Shelters and the No Kill Movement Nationally, roughly four million animals are killed in shelters every year. Of these, roughly 95% of all shelter animals are healthy and treatable. (No Kill Advocacy Center). No animal should have to ever be a part of these awful statistics. What will it take to help save these innocent animals from being killed senselessly? Animal kill shelters are horrible, inhumane, and overall completely unnecessary for multiple reasons: No Kill shelters improve adoption rates, all animals lives are valuable, and No Kill shelters save more money than other shelters. Why Waste a Valuable Life? Killing and disposing of animals because there is no room available for them is unnecessary and inhumane. A shelter is usually a place where something or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another question that comes to mind is if No Kill animal shelters are actually the solution or not. Some pounds will kill as many as 90% of the animals they redeem and that owners hand over. But on the other hand countless pounds are lessening their kill rates of adoptable animals to 0% (Animals). Death should never be the solution when it comes to the lives of these powerless animals. Why Kill When You Can Adopt? Usually when others are given the choice between a kill shelter and a No Kill shelter the answer is almost always the No Kill shelter. What if each animal shelter in the United States were to swap to No Kill shelters and if all the services and programs that help run No Kill shelters were available? Well the United States would emancipate roughly four million cats and dogs who are scheduled to die painfully in shelters this year, and the many years to come after that. This dream is a dream that is not completely impossible to achieve (No Kill Advocacy Center). Why are animals given a certain time line to be adopted when animals have the same right to life just as humans do? Many passionate people feel the same way and that kill shelters are completely unnecessary. The ASPCA has its own program called Mission Orange. This program works with communities to help raise the shelter "save rate" by 10% a year so that it can accomplish a 75% save rate by 2010 ("Animal Shelters and the No Kill ... • 12. Animal Hoarding Essay Animal hoarding is an issue in every division of society around the world (Donaghey 2011). Whether rich or poor, there may still be an animal hoarder living right next door (Donaghey 2011). In some situations there may be obvious signs that a person is a hoarder; however, others live seemingly regular lives to the public eye and the problem is growing. Animal hoarding is a growing problem because of the lack of understanding of the issue and lack of action. The general public has a lack of understanding of animal hoarding. Many citizens do not realize that anyone can report abuse (Donaghey 2011). There are "...900 to 2,000 new cases [found] every year... with a quarter million animals falling victim" in the United States alone (Animal). If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Donaghey stated that, "research has shown that hard core criminals who do crimes such as rape, battery, and murder often claim to have started abusing animals before humans". This is yet another reason she says that education of our children would greatly help the community (Donaghey 2011). Researchers have found that animal hoarding is a mental illness equivalent to schizophrenia. It can be characterized by having "more than the typical number of companion animals", and "obsessive attempts to [ ] maintain a collection of animals in to face of deteriorating conditions" having an "inability to provide even minimal standards of nutrition, sanitation, shelter, and veterinary care with this neglect often resulting in starvation, illness, and death" (Animal) (Castrodale). Animal hoarders also are in "denial of the inability to provide this minimum care and the impact of that failure on the animals, the household, and human occupants of the dwelling" (Animal). People who hoard and abuse animals once usually hoard again as shown in a case in England (Donaghey 2011) (Cruelty). Studies done on animal hoarding show that human health is not taken into consideration when dealing with hoarding situations. In 2 independent studies done of 54 cases, the majority of "animal care agencies failed to address human health concerns associated with the case" (Arluke). More studies found that "in 11 ... No Kill Policy Essay Results from a nationally conducted survey show that ninety–six percent of Americans agree that society carries the obligation of caring for and protecting animal companions ("Dollars and Sense" 2). This public outcry for better pet treatment applies to Ohioans as well; the movement's increasing popularity brings up the question of whether or not shelters in Ohio should adopt a no–kill policy or stand by the old euthanasia philosophy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Advocates of kill shelters often complain that no–kill shelters are a hindrance due to excessive dependence on volunteers and funds and the risk they bring of pet overpopulation. In reality, no–kill shelters work avidly to mitigate the chance of overpopulation through desexing animals, encouraging adoption, and using foster homes; additionally, these shelters only use euthanasia as a final recourse unlike kill shelters that use it as the primary method. Moreover, shelters that adopt the no–kill policy provide more economic benefits than their adversaries because they use less expensive methods of care, bring in revenue through adoption, and use more volunteers than employees. Also, in San Antonio, Texas, "The bodies of nearly 16,000 dogs and nearly 12,000 cats were scraped off the streets and properties in just one year." The government needs to open up a better place for homeless dogs to live. When they are not adopted, instead of kill shelters or the streets, they won't be in cages all the time. The United States is faced with the problem of what should be done with the excess of stray animals. This is a complex thing to solve, but that doesn't mean killing the animals for space is right. Stray dogs and cats have just as much right to a good home as pets that already have owners. No–Kill shelters are beneficial, they provide a safe, pet–friendly environment that would help solve the problems of pet homelessness and overpopulations, as a result of spay and neuter being provided as well. The private shelters accept upon how they kill the stray dogs and cats but then how is the history so much worse? A problem has grown among animal lovers. On one side are the traditional shelters that euthanize to make space for more animals. On the other side are those that call themselves "no kill". They represent a rage of shelters from all over the country that won't euthanize any animal on their property. No–Kill shelters are gaining popularity in the United States, According to one source, "More than 600 shelters and that's just a fraction. The popularity has put pressure on the other shelters to become no–kill" (Fasseas). Now there are two different sides to the story, half of the people agrees upon euthanize animals for space and the other half agrees that there should not be any kill shelters here in this area or anywhere in the country. No Kill Animal Shelter Essay When Mary Ray of Woodbury, Minnesota unexpectedly passed away at her home during the winter of 2012, the last thing she would have expected was that her beloved perfectly healthy, young pet cat would be euthanized by the Woodbury Humane Society shelter instead of being sent to the home she had detailed in a note posted on her refrigerator. In retrospect, this would not have happened if the Woodbury Humane Society shelter had adopted the new and growing trend of "no–kill" philosophy for animal shelters, which simply stated, is an operating philosophy for a shelter that is based upon the premise that no healthy adoptable animal should be euthanized for any reason and that they should be sheltered until they find a loving home. The number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, many animals that are declined from limited admission shelters are dumped on city streets and in rural areas creating the potential for uncontrolled reproduction and thus creating more homeless animals. Overall, opponents of the no–kill shelter philosophy see it as misleading and possibly harmful to the management and wellbeing of stray animals. The actual record shows an entirely different outcome. The no–kill movement started when Richard Avanizo took over the San Francisco SPCA in April 1976. During this time, humane societies and SPCA's followed the tenets being promoted by the Animal Humane Society in which they were required to kill the bulk of animals in their care due to the large amount of animals, and limited number of homes but later, "Avanzino forced a reluctant animal control director to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two agencies that guaranteed a home for every healthy dog and cat in San Francisco" (Redemption 37). This was known as the adoption pact which was a huge step in the no–kill movement with a result of zero healthy shelter animal deaths that year (Irreconcilable Differences 49). This success led to other shelters adopting this philosophy. Today, the primary goals of no–kill shelters are to be able to find animals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Saving Animal Shelters In America Introduction Murdered animals are the result of animals shelters neglecting to take care of them. They are left with untreated diseases, and severe abandonment. No home and no one to take care of them; this is what it's like for these animals everyday, and it's because of traditional kill shelters. A recent study conducted that there are "70 million stray cats and dogs live in the United States. There are 13,600 estimated animal shelters nationwide. Only 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters every year." It's the lack of animal shelters letting animals in, or killing them instead, that has cause so many to die. In this wute the animal shelter called Best Friends has made saving animals and taking disciplined steps into creating a positive, safe, and healthy way for animals to live. In another source an author tastes "Spaying, neutering and education are the only answers to the deep rooted problem of overpopulation which is why the LA/SPCA invests so heavily in sterilization programs. Until all dogs and cats are sterilized or the numbers of homeless animals are significantly reduced, our community will continue to euthanize." This shows that unwanted animals are a cause of overpopulation, in which animals aren't accepted anywhere else, so the shelters kill them because there isn't pspace. • 18. Animal Punishmenting Animals Do you ever recall being punished for something you had no clue about? On a daily basis dogs and cats are being euthanized, which is their "punishment". As human we fight for equality of one another, but haven't really fought for our so called companions. People don't look for the positive alternative for dogs in a pound. We see a so called problem and take the lives of unwanted dogs who didn't even have a say or choice of what they want. So why are we punishing those who did nothing? Killing innocent animals due to overpopulation, crowded shelters, or old age is unreasonable. Just in the United States around 6.5 million companions are euthanized each year. Some of these cats my family bought from a family with a litter of kittens they needed to get rid of. Others we got from humane societies. The most memorable were the ones that were rescued from a shelter because we saved them from the lonely, tiny cages that they were forced to live in day in and day out. As we were looking for the most recent additions, I grew tired of looking in shelters, not because it was time consuming finding the right one, but because of all the sad faces that stared back at me from the cages. No matter where you get your pet from, whether it be breeder or shelter, there is a chance they could get sick at some point in their life. For example, Maddie's Fund wrote that no–kill shelters save all healthy and treatable dogs and cats. They will even keep the animal until it gets adopted. Around 7.6 million dogs and cats are sent to an animal shelter every year. But only 4.9 animals are saved mostly by no–kill shelters. However, if the animal is unhealthy or untreatable, they will put it down. Also, they only take in animals that are adoptable. According to an article, "To clarify, there are some shelters that will let an animal stay for two weeks before euthanizing it. Others give only 3 days. According to research, some shelters may give an animal 3 days, then an additional 7, should the owner come looking for the animal. Meanwhile, other shelters may give the animals a few months, a few weeks, a few days, or even just an hour." This shows how these shelters don't care about finding homes for these homeless animals. Furthermore, kill shelters use excuses for murdering the innocent little animals. An article said they use excuses like "We don't have enough room, we don't have enough money to keep them alive, or they aren't young or 'cute' enough and nobody will want to adopt them." Every year, approximately 2.7 million dogs and cats are euthanized because there isn't enough room. As you can see, these shelters don't even think these animals are worthy of being alive. Lastly, research told how kill shelters send out little to no notice of advertisement for the animals. The only advertisement that some kill shelters send out is a "death row" which tells adopters that they are about to kill some animals, so they need to come adopt one before it's too late. In other words, kill shelters don't give much effort in encouraging people to adopt an animal. Kill shelters are the most harsh shelters of them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Euthanasia, by definition, is "the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma (Google)." The method of euthanasia is also known as "mercy killing" and "assisted suicide". But euthanasia is practically a form of "legal" abuse towards animals, specifically cats and dogs. Although they claim to euthanize for good reasons such as a contagious illness or aggressive behavior. In the United States alone there are 4,000–6,000 animal shelters. Of those shelters, nearly 10,000 cats and dogs are being euthanized every single day. Obviously, the euthanization method in shelters is unfair, costly, and clearly animal abuse. There are many reasons for euthanizing, but none of them are just. Shelters euthanize animals when there is overcrowding or sickness and euthanasia is also dependent on the behavior of the animal. If and when an animal is deemed too aggressive or uncontrollable, many shelters are more likely to put them down rather than to try and train the animals to change their behavior. Behavior is easy to change, considering the amount of people in the U.S. that are more than willing to help. • 40. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse Rough Draft Pet overpopulation might be a major issue, but is it right to kill an animal because it is unwanted? The United States has been faced with a major enigma: what can be done to prevent the overpopulation of animals in shelters and shrink the population of animals on the streets? It is a very long and complex problem that needs to be solved, but that is no reason to give up on these animals. All animals deserve the chance to find a home and a family that can love and care for them, but unreasonably high euthanasia rates in shelters take that chance away. Animal shelters should provide spay and neuter services and work towards becoming no–kill because this can help control the problem of pet overpopulation and homelessness while providing a safe environment for animals to keep them away from euthanasia.
