A farmer named Paul Metzger lived a simple life as a wheat farmer until retiring in the 1970s. When he passed away in May, his will specified that his $38 million estate be split evenly between two local hospitals. This donation was the largest gift ever received by either organization, exceeding the previous record donation of $2.5 million anonymously given by Metzger's late sister. Metzger's financial advisor said Metzger was a humble man who wanted to give back to the community through donating his estate in order to provide support and challenge others to be generous.
