Why do we need supercomputers?
1. Meet to the general computing need
of individuals (entertainment, office
work, relatively simple computing…)
2. Low cost, flexible and convenient
3. Optimized to personal need

2. Each enterprise has may have one or
more independent servers with capital
expense (CAPEX) and operation
expense (OPEX) are relatively high.

Compute servers:
• Each compute server has many CPUs, each
CPU has many cores (multicores) and high
chipset frequency.
• Memory capacity (RAM) is up to hundreds of
GBs per server
Storage servers:
• Storage capacity is about tens or hundreds of
terabytes per server, including SSD (read/write
optimized) and HDD (storage optimized)
I/O Network:
• Gigabit Ethernet & 10GbE standard

Operating system:
• Using open source operating system
Linux/Unix in order to optimize
performance and licenses.
RAID:
• Using “soft” RAID of Linux operating
system with industrial standard RAID 5.
“Soft” RAID allows to extend many
harddisks easily

Filesystem:
• Using filesystem (using mainly the
operating system Linux/Unix) in order to
optimize system performance, to partition
storage easily and to extend volumes
unlimitedly.
Virtualization
• We don’t use any virtualization softwares
such as VMware, Hypervisor, Openstack…
in order to optimize system performance and
license
• We only use filesystems

inherits the filesystem of Linux/Unix
kernel in order to optimize system
performance and licenses
